No diss taken. :) But seriously, my CDs are only as good as my source makes them. Acoustic Dreams and Critical Mass (and Precious Things) are examples of how good they can be when I get DAT masters and/or soundboard material right from near sources. I also make discs like Antiquities that have a lot of restored material that, trust me, sounded WAY worse before I got ahold of it. :) But it was rare enough to include on a fan CD. I'm not snapping into the defensive, just explaining why sometimes you hear crisp, clean perfection on a boot and sometimes, you hear something a bit rougher.

I am NOT a huge Rush fan and probably haven't listened to them in over 6-7 years, but I think this "Working Man" CD is awesome. My only problem with it is that there is not enough John Petrucci on it. I can't see how people can say that this album sucks. When you have this much talent on a single CD, it can't miss.

Hello Ytse- Jammers, I'm rather new to this Mailing list but I think that, being a big DT Fan, I'll find some new information about DT. I've seen them performing live in Germany way back in February 1995. And man, please don't misunderstand this, but I almost started crying. This might seem ridicolous but I just had not believed they could perform live the way it sounds on CD. It was fabolous! Their Support band was Fates Warning and I was lucky enough to catch the drum stick of FW's drummer Mark Zonder. I can see it right before me fixed at the wall. But DT isn't my only favourite band though it's the ULTIMATE band of the world, no doubt about it. I like listening to others as well: Queensryche, Symphony X as well as more 'mainstream' bands like Metallica, Type O'Negative or Paradise Lost. That about this.

Now to my question: Besides the FAQs about DT's new album (Feb. 1997?) I'd like to know if there is any release of DT which could complete my list: I have

When dream and day unite Images and Words Live at the marquee Awake A Change of Seasons

I know that there's a CD- Single, which contains: The silent man; Take the time (demo) and Eve (from the Awake- Sessions)

Is there any CD apart from these?

    Thanx in advance

    And please mail me:

no. he didn't play on Tamplin...some guy named David Raven did. i still know Dean Castronova from *something* else, but i can't place him.

POD is a great album. Psycho Surgery is my fav Tourniquet one, though. The 2 new songs on the collection are heavier than their latest efforts (VL & CtW), and they are tuned down quite a bit. I hear their new one is going to be out sometime in November (perhaps) on Rugged Records (distr. by Benson).

yet a heavier feel...IMO. most likely to Gary (and Aaron) tuning down so freakin' low.

yeah, i got to talk to all of them at a recent show...gary and aaron especially longer than ted and luke. BTW, Victor's out of the band now, and they're searching for a new bassist (unless they've found one since June).

both aaron and gary reaffirmed that they were working on new material and it would be HEAVY. Vanishing Lessons was a transition album after two key members left, and Carry the Wounded was a "side-project," so hopefully the *real* Tourniquet is back!! It's supposed to be out around November.

    > The lyrics take on a much > darker tone than their more recent stuff (VL/CtW). Very > interesting lyrical content.

yeah, they've been laking something in the lyrical content since POD. i wish they'd go back to the medical lyrics...those were cool.

    Hey Folks,

Yesterday I went to the King's X show at the Warehouse. All I can say is WOW. These guys are some of the coolest musicians I've ever met. Here's how it went:

6:30- I get to the venue hoping to meet the guys. there is only a small (6-8) group of people at the door. Me and my buddy Mark just hang out in line.

7:40- Doug comes out of the venue and briefly steps into the tour-bus before coming out and hanging out with the people in charge of the merchandise. A small crowd starts to gather around him, and I step up to him myself.

He was really cool, relaxed. He just seemed happy to be on tour, specially so far from Texas. A few people asked the typical questions "why aren't you guys more popular; what are your favourite songs, etc." He said that he enjoys playing the new stuff most. I finally got to talk to him and said that I'd been keeping track of the tour on the Internet. He laughed and joked that he found out that he was touring from the 'net too.

He then signed my copy of Ear Candy and my ticket. Very cool!

9:00 The Galactic Cowboys go on. They play an OK set but I wasn't very impressed. The bass player is a maniac, though; very cool. He jumped all over the stage and did eighties poses. They mentioned that they were supposed to play Toronto with Dream Theater a few years back (sorry to say, not too many people cheered, I guess not too many people new 'em).

10:30 King's X came on. What a show! The best part was the very end when the boys finished the encore and the crowd got them to play Goldilox. A whole bunch of people came on stage when Doug asked everyone to sing it. Another thing cool thing was when they started Dogman and Doug kept forgetting how to play it... they had to count in three times before they finally got it!

All in all it was a very cool night.

BTW-- for all those who think that this is their last record or tour, Doug kept saying that they would be back.

    Later, Lugie.

    Good morning Jammers!

Well, it seems to have finally happened.

I just read the following message in alt.music.fates-warning stating that Magna Carta has pulled Working Man from circulation. .

From: cypher@iadfw.net (FATE) ..Begin Quote... I found out yesterday that Magna Carta has been forced to cease shipments of "Working Man" to Canada, the US, or ANYWHERE! The local Blockbuster Music is pulling it from their shelves and none of the other stores can get them. Even the local "bootleg" store wasn't able to score copies.

Fortunately, I was able to get a copy from a local store my friend works at while they were pulling the album from the shelves.

THIS IS BULLSHIT! I don't know what we can do about it, but something should be done. Fans shouldn't have to suffer because record companies are greedy!

Untill all this shit gets worked out... Here is Closer To The Heart, Beautifully performed by my favorite band -- FATES WARNING

    -Cypher ..End Quote...

This is followed by the LARGE .WAV of Closer to the Heart by Fates from the tribute. It is just under 45,000 lines long. Not that I'm advocating that anyone take it from the NG of course. ;)

If this is true, this disc is now a collector's piece. Grab it while you can!!! The scandalous nature of the release could make it more valuable than some boots. I am very disheartened by this. I had hoped to pick it up in Buffalo this week, but that may not happen now. I haven't tried contacting MC directly yet, but it is my understanding that they are less than reliable about responding to e-mail.

    Cheers,

    Rick Toronto

    Hi all,

just when you thought things couldn't get any worse, back I come from the lurkers. The Flatmate from Hell is gone, things are now in the hands of the police and my lawyer, and I've got a few things to get off my chest (other than my Macho Man Stick-On wooly rug, of course).

Perhaps all this stuff about the Rush (although you're not allowed to call it that) tribute album seems to be calming down again: I can only hope so, because the jam has rarely been so boring as in the last couple of weeks. It also looks like the debate "to click, or not to click" has finally crawled into some corner and has died quietly. Good ridance to a boring thread.

Apropos tribute albums: there seems to be a real glut of them at the moment. If this trend continues, the world of good music as we know it (please insert your own definition) will start to go round in ever decreasing circles, everybody paying tribute to everybody else, to finally disappear up it's own arsehole. PLOP! What was that? That was prog. metal, mate.

Did anybody notice that I *didn't* comment about the Phil Anselmo/overdose business? Doesn't anybody pay attention anymore?

My CD collection has been growing again (what a surprise). Here are a few of the new gems that have been added:

Prong - A Rude Awakening - No longer exactly new, but a great new album, which can loosely be described as 'dance metal': driving beat, good guitar and bass work, great vocals. I'm going to see the band on Wednesday (report to follow).

Angra - Holy Land - Again not exactly hot off the press, but one I've been meaning to buy for a time. I bought this one on the basis of recommendations from fellow jammers. Nice, but could perhaps be a little heavier. Maybe I'll have to give it more time.

Moonspell - Irreligious - Without doubt one of the up-and-coming bands in Europe. Wolfheart was good, but this is better. The singer has improved, and the keyboard work is perfect. I don't know of a better album to play to some- body that you want to turn on to death/doom/gothic - this album has it all. Does anybody know anything about tour dates in Europe?

Film news: the film "Mission: Impossible" is being boykotted here in Germany because of Tom Cruise's links to Scientology (reason enough for me not to go, not that I intended to anyway). Any feedback from the States on this one? My personal recommendation: go and see the new British film "Trainspotting". It is a film about real life (unlike a lot of the crap being screened these days), and it may even change your outlook on drugs (Graham, have you seen it yet? It is, after all, based in Glasgow).

Whatever happened to Ben and Bafu Vai?

Tea break's over, back on your heads, people.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de)

Derek's birthday bash will be held at the People's bar, and grill. in Elwood N.Y. I think the date is August 23, or 24th. To get to the People's pub you take Northern State parkway to exit 42 north. At the fork, you go right till you get to Jericho Turnpike (Rte 25) Get on Jericho for about 1/4 to 1/2 a mile. It is on the right side of the road heading east. It is right next to Northport Ford, and a kitchen and bath place. Other than that I can't be more specific. I'll try and get the addres and Phone number soon. Take care, John
