About the Rush tribute it will NOT be rejected, it's only out of sale, Magna
Carta is now producing new copies, so the album will be available soon.

you are not alone. 4 outta 5 of my dt-friendly friends do like
"awake" better than "images + words". conversion works better
with "awake" anyway. one of my best friends says that while "awake"
is one of the best albums he's ever heard, "images + words" is kind
of lame. go figure.
i love *almost* everything they've done, but "awake" tops the list of
all time favorite albums. too bad i gave it to a friend temporarily,
can't listen to it right now. :-(

What I should've said, is that he was supposed to play on Tamplin's European tour, but
I am not sure if he did...
Someone wondered who would be singing for QR if JLB would leave DT, and Geoff Tate
would replace him. If Chris DeGarmo really sings on "Anybody Listening" like
it looks like on the video, I guess he could easily take over the singing for
ryche... Another point, if Bruce Dickinson would join, he could sing Pull Me Under
"Paul DiAnno, Paul DiAnno, I am not afraid" (it sucks, but just came in to my mind
when listening PMU 9^99th time)
I have heard some rumours that the list of these xn musicians should also include
Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, somebody from Downset and Michael Wilton of QR...
(dunno for sure...)

This is a load of crap anyway. Any smart computer user uses a real virus
scanner which has the ability to do heruistic scanning, and would catch such
a virus in an instant. Even many of the most brain-dead, oudated viruses
can still detect if something suspicious is going on (file sizes and/or
CRC/checksums changing).

Is there anybody out there with DT vids they could dub for me? I already have Live in Tokyo, but anything else would be a great addition to my collection. However, I don't have any boots to trade, so I can pay if anyone has something. Please, if your vcr works on PAL or SECAN, don't bother replying, it would cost me too much to have them transferred.
One more thing (for all you video freaks), I have at home a list of bootleg videos someone has provided me with. There's a lot of DT (I mean A LOT!), and there are a zillion other bands and boots to sell. If any of you are interested, email me and I'll send you a complete list.

Hmm... my favorite drummer. :)
Played on Marty Friedman "Dragon's Kiss" (AWESOME!) Cacophony "Go Off" (Awesome, except for lame vocals) Hardline (Major bummer) Bad English (When I see your bile) Ozzy Osborne (New album) Wild Dogs (Never heard it) Working Man (Obviously) Alien Love Secrets (VAI!) Tony Macalpine "Maximum Security" (F'ing amazing) Tony Macalpine... that album with the purple and black cover. Good album. Great drumming. There's more... I know there is.
This guy RULES. The biggest fills ever. He's the originator of the big rolling tom/double bass fill that Portnoy and everyone else uses now. Sure, someone did it before him, but no one did it like him.
Plus, he's a HELL of a nice guy.

LIMITED EDITION COMPACT DISCS - Availability notice, August 1996 - RUSH - DREAM THEATER - TORI AMOS - METALLICA -
Hi all! This is just a brief notice, I promise you won't see it more than once or twice a week so as not to interrupt the newsgroups and mailing lists too much.
I am making available some very special, limited edition, numbered bootlegs by the above bands. All the info about them can be found at: http://www.columbia.edu/~jc309/archives/ginfo/mikebahr.html
I have two Dream Theater discs and a Rush 2-CD set already available and shipping, and they can be ordered at any time. The Rush set is likely to sell out soon, though, so if you like Rush, don't miss it.
I have a Tori Amos CD that's about 2 weeks from release, and then shipping will begin. It's open to pre-orders now; get it while it lasts! :)
Finally, I have a Metallica CD that's going to begin production when the Tori disc is finished with production (what a coincidence, huh?) and it will begin to ship five to seven weeks after that. It is also open to pre-orders.
If you're a fan of any of these bands, I encourage you to check out all the info at the website, hopefully you'll find something you like. Again, that URL is: http://www.columbia.edu/~jc309/archives/ginfo/mikebahr.html

Yeah, after a bit of prodding, I was able to receive their CD a few months ago. It is pretty decent. This will sound quite odd but to me it reminded me of a hypothetical blend between DT and Supertramp. I am probably dating myself here and please note that Supertramp is not meant to be a slam. Its hard for me to verbalize why I believe this, so please do not push for details. My degree is math not music. If you are into slightly softer sounds than DT, you may like them. If anyone wants their address, let me know.

Here is another (hypothetical) possibility:
SRO/Canada (Rush's management company) has (independently of the band) decided that a tribute would hurt the band in some fashion. They have taken the only possible legal action available to them (a Temporary restraining order) until they present their case about incorrect application for mechanical licenses. They will more than likely lose should it go to court, since mechanical licenses are little more than formalities. I am guessing that they are attempting to "out-sue" Magna Carta's Canadian distributor to prevent the case from ever reaching court. I don't think (emphasis on think here, I'm no legal eagle) that they can directly sue Magna Carta, only the Canadian publisher.
We have heard absolutely nothing from the band itself regarding their position with the album. The only source of information we have are rumors that are being recycled through the "World-Wide Gossip-Net" (as Neil calls it).
Based upon previous interviews (published in quasi-reliable magazines) with the band members themselves, I would think that they wouldn't care about the tribute at all for any reason, especially business reasons.
Management companies of musicians have a notoriously bad habit of presenting their own opinions and feelings as the opinions and feelings of the bands they represent. Music rags also have a tendency to repeat these half-truths. Unless I see something in print from a direct interview with Alex, Geddy, or Neil condemning the tribute and Magna Carta, I am going to give them benefit of the doubt.
Of course this all the stupid opinion of a dumb sap who worshipped Rush for 15 years before DT came along. Joe Kruger

Well, I didn't find any copies on my little search today, but I did get it on order at a Streetside Records (their computer said they had one in stock, but they didn't, unless somebody hid it...). They also said one of their other stores had something like 15 copies on back order. I guess MC didn't really anticipate the demand. They said they should be getting it in next week (keep this store in mind any St. Louis jammers - I went to the one in Florissant). Hey guys, whether or not you like King's X, I had to post this piece of crap article (well, some excerpts anyway). It appeared in the Aug. 22 edition of the Get Out section of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
"King's X with Galactic Cowboys, Wednesday at Mississippi Nights" The spirit is willing, but the songs are weak. King's X is the world's foremost Christian light metal band. The trio has never hesitated to incorporate tenets of the faith into their music - nor the convictions, MTV ready bor notm that they trumpet. They've paid for it, too. When the band assailed abortionists in the song "Mr. Wilson," from the 1990 album "Faith hope Love," pro-choice groups called for a boycott of the band. Keeping the faith ahs paid dividends as well. Christian rock fans who can't cotton the brutish, demonic fervor of ab act such as Cannibal Corpse (who plays the night before KX does) need their kicks, too. And King's X fans are a faithful lot, as a quick perusal of the band's internet site proves. Unfortunately, King's X songs are the metal equivalent of dull sermons. On the new album, "Ear Candy," the band's noble struggle with faith and responsibility are rendered through listless, mid-tempo jams more likely to put acute rock fans to sleep than to make them bang a head." - BTW, no mention of GC. Now, I agree that a critic's job is to state his/her opinions, but I think this is going a bit far. To be honest, I kind of find it insulting. It's not a critic's job to be insulting. You know, this paper has really not been great when it comes to musical critiques (IMO). I mean, they called Maiden a "hair band," and described White Zombie as a great band (and better than Pantera - I don't like either) because they're "fun." They'd probably think DT's glam, or Rush are a bunch of old farts just churning out dinosaur rock (sort of kidding on that). Yeah, it's all opinion, but let's not be insulting here. Oh yeah, I saw a (I guess new) box set of old prog stuff (4 CD?) at Best Buy today while searching for Working Man. It was around $60 I think (give or take a few $). Had old Genesis, some Zappa, and other stuff I can't remember. Looked interesting. Sorry all this was so long. That just kind of struck a chord with me, seeing as how some people are going to iss out on some great music because of a piece of poor writing. later.

Hey,
Yes, Leviathan is still around. They've gotten a new singer as well as a new drummer and bass player ( the only original members left are the guitarists). Their new album just came out (or its coming out really soon.) I heard a rough mix of it and I think it's their best stuff yet. The new singer's voice is good and in no way resembles either of the previous singers. If your wondering why so many members changed it was because of differences with the musical direction of the band. There was a legal battle a big mess but as far as I know its over now. Get the new album it rocks!!!!
