Can someone update all of us on exactly where and when it will be b/c I
hear a lot about it, but nobody actually mentions the spesifics. Thanx!
On Phil Anselmo as a vocalist, I thinks he deserves credit. He may not
have the best voice, but he puts a lot of attitude into his singing, a
ton of emotion, and he can sing in tune unlike most death metal and
power groove bands. And besides, DT guys, especially Portnoy (according
to the FAQ anyway) like Pantera a lot. You can hear the influences in
some of their hevier riffs.
Anymore feedback on that virus?

It's the Saturday before Columbus Day at the Marriott Hotel at LaGuardia Airport, NYC. Last I heard tix were $20 in advance and $25 that day.
BE WARNED. There is a REAL possibility that DT won't show up. So if you go with the idea that you're finally going to meet all the cool people from the jam and IRC, then you won't be disappointed. Then if DT DOES show up it will be bonus. I wish I could be there but I have a prior commitment. Have a good time!

Okay, I know I'm not Mike Portnoy, but I would also highly recommend prog-lovers to go out and get Spock's Beard.
I saw them at Progfest 95 in LA and they were unbelievable. I'd describe them as Prog-Broadway. If you really want a more detailed description, I'll post more at a later date, but now I'm off to get cheese fries. Priorities...

Well, well, well. After a great week back on Long Island, an 8-hour train ride, some chow and some fun (heh heh), I'm back in VT and ready to post. :) Get some Dew - this'll take a while.
First, I had virtually no internet access last week, so I just read a buttload of mail, including like 20 jams or so (and it's summer!!!), so, first some replies:
Yes. No. Charlie Dominici - who else?? Mojo, where's my fucking tapes? Koba, you're a hardcore crackhead.
OK, now with that out of the way, someone (Kain?) read in the faq that the pronunciation is yeet-tsee-jam or something? I'll have to look into that. I thought it was yet-say-jam, ala WDATU. Well, someone tell me what should be there.
OK, Ethyl. Holy fucking shit. Last night was just phenomenal. Derek kicked booty. Greg (spelled Smith for Syrinx :) kicked total booty, but I guess I'm biased. The various Ethyl drummers kicked booty. Al Pitrelli... I could only think of one word to describe him. He's a weasel. He wanks too much and he's immature. Great Moment #1: JP was sitting right up front during a bass solo and then a guitar solo. I was behind the drummer and watching JP's expressions. As Greg soloed, John's jaw was on the ground. As Al soloed afterwards, John tried really hard not to look impolite as he was thoroughly underwhelmed.
I didn't really speak to John last night, but Derek and Mike are just too cool. They both took a lot of time patiently answering all our questions. Great Moment #2: Asking Mike about his first demo (Rising Power? Rising Force? Whatever.) We told him how cheesy we thought the front pic was. He said, That's nothing. The inside picture is a mugshot of me when I got arrested. Go buy it. Don't listen to it, but check out the pictures. :)
My friend Mike got the scoop on why Derek and DT are listed separately in the thanks on Working Man. Derek was going to record some stuff, then they didn't need him/didn't use him, and Derek was, naturally, cool about it. Hence his own thanks.
Great Moment #3: I asked Derek about a collabration he had done with Brad Gillis. I saw the song listed in the credits of some really bad movie. He said, "The Christina Applegate one?" and I said, no something else. "Hmm, I haven't been paid for that yet." :)
Best part of the evening for me was something I thought I'd never have the opportunity to witness - watching Mike play from behind the kit. In case you were wondering, he really does only use four limbs.
More on the weasel: Al had the nerve to call changes out during "Perfect Strangers," a song that Derek, Mike, and John obviously know, and a song that Greg gets paid to play with Blackmore. Putz.
To the other jammers there - Syrinx, Rob, Wisha, Wilson, BLevy, Koba, Robb, Mithrandir, Jeff, Mojo (who's more fun sober), Jigsaw, and, um, did I miss anyone? - cool shit, huh? See you guys in October!!
To JP, Mike, and Derek, if you're reading - man, that was fun. Thanks for letting us all sit in on a great jam.
OK, only 15 more e-mails to sort through, and then I'm all caught up. Whew! Later! -D

I second that emotion. If you like your prog with long tunes, this band is for you. The 4 tunes on _The Light_ clock in at 15:33, 12:03, 23:14 and 6:11. For a new band, with little experience under their belt, the songs hang together real well. Besides, their album is the only place where you can hear "Senor Valasco's Mystic Voodoo Love Dance" and "The Return of the Horrible Catfish Man?" :)
Pick 'em up if you can.

I found it!!!!! Yeah, i got Workingman today at Now Hear This in Fairview Heights, IL. The cool thing is, not only did they have it, but they were playing it in the store whil I was there. Man, who could ask for anything more (well, it could have been free, but that's a bit much). Anyway, the dude at the desk noticed I was getting it and said something about hearing it then having to get it. I toild him about the rumours and the commentaries you all ahve made. There was also a dude in there that was saying something about it sounding like DT (he was trying to figure out who it was, until "Closer to the Heart" came on). I told him it was probably this, and held up the CD, and told him it was a Rush trib. Oh yeah, and I was wrong about the name of that Maiden 3 CD set that I posted about a while back, it's called "The Lords of the Twilight Zone," and it has some live tracks (one of them was "Stairway to Heaven" from a soundcheck - hmm). They also had a Maiden boot from the X-Factour, as well as a couple DT imports (not boots, though, they were cleaned up) - Silent Man single and Live @ the Marquee. Anyway, I better be going. the CD kicks. I love it, it's much better than Cats, I'm going to see (well, listen to) it again and again. Cheers.

Hey all. Greeting from the endless prairie of South Dakota.
I just wanted to add my $.02 about "Ear Candy", the new CD from King's X.
In a nutshell, FANTASTIC!!
Without a doubt, this is their best album. I remember hearing "Out Of The Silent Planet" when it came out. I was the music director at a college radio station, and this album just blew me away. Subsequent albums did not live up to the promise of their first release, until now. There is not a weak track on this album.
If you don't have this CD yet, get it.
On another note, I enjoy reading about all of the lesser known progressive rock bands that are mentioned on THE JAM. Keep mentioning them. Sometimes, it is the only way I can find out about them.

He can sing when he wants to (listen to "Cemetery Gates" on Cowboys from Hell) but most of the time he chooses not to. I suppose it wouldn't suit the aggressive style of the band if he sang 'properly' all of the time but I would like to hear a few more tunes from him. I like the first two albums, but the constant screaming on Far Beyond Driven and The Great Southern Trendkill gets a bit much after a while.

Hi everybody. Hope you are doing fine, and I must say that I've missed you all. I've just rejoined YtseJam after over a year, so therefore I feel obliged to make a rather long post. Please read it,'cause it took me over an hour writing it.. ---This text is also available as an MS-Word-file (not inc.) for easier reading
Content: Argentina Quality Quality in Music The best last Livesongs Kev
Argentina After finishing my studies in June-95, I went down to Argentina working as an engineer in a small factory. This was a really great experience, and I learned a lot. Still in one sentence it was a big mistake going down there without speaking any spanish, because it's almost impossible to communicate in english out in the countryside. Being the only Swede there, I was forced to learn "castellano". I also travelled a lot both to the Easter Island - which I love, and up to the land of the Incas in Peru/Bolivia. So if you are having any plans going there, you're welcome to contact me. As well if there are any spanish-speaking YtseJammers out there.
Quality I've now just started my career as a teacher in Total Quality Management in the University of Trollha:ttan, here in Sweden, I'm very interested in making the education more costumer-fucused, due to just recently having finished my own studies, and I therefore know how it shouldn't be. My lectures will I try to make Problem-Based, since that's the only way to reach profound knowledge, imho. All of them will btw be in english, since our university just has started an internationalization, and I've got eight french students. Do any of you have any experience about this, or may there be any other quality-holic among us, or are you just interested, contact me
Quality in Music Since I just described my interest about quality, I guess you all have figured out why I'm so into Dream Theater. I've met them all three times they've reached Sweden and been totally amazed every time, even though I in some sentence prefer those early club-gigs. I also feel quite strong about two Swedish bands: Anekdoten, A:nglaga'rd. But I don't have a clue what they're up to these days, so a little help would be great. Also if you know of other bands in their category.
The best last One thing I've noticed about DT is that on every album the best songs comes last, and they all start with one or two "hit"-songs. At least that is how I feel about it. I, too, got totally taken away by PMU, 6.00, aFiL, TtT, but they don't last as well. Almost all of the songs goes to my arms and legs (i.e. can't help bashing my air-guitar), many reaches the heart ( Metro, Scarred, KillingHand, Voices, Set the Sun), and then there are those who goes for the soul ( SDV, Matter of Time, Wait for Sleep, Learning to Live, Change of Season), they are also those who last best.
Livesongs One thing that annoys me is that live, DT, and every single bands as well, keep their "best"-songs until after the break. I wish that the concert would be the concert, and those extrasong should be real surprises like a Majestysong, a cover or a completely odd thing (e.g. 6.00 accoustic, Petrucci singing....(no offence!.). Did you get my point? The concerts would be even more fantastic, and DT do have the capacity, don't they. But is that impossible for our "perfectionists", since the soundquality would easily get effected. I would really like that, since the show sometimes goes too perfect and may lack "soul". That's at least the case with me. I want to see a show rather than a live-performance of the songs of the album. Don't get me wrong, these are just my suggestions for DT to go from 10 to 11 points ot of 10.
Kev This man is by far the best skilled and most intresting musician I've ever heard of, and with the risk of beeing called "puto" I must say that I love him. Still haven't mailed any dollars to buy his new demo, but I listen to those wav.files, and to his free demo-collection (MMtbH) each and every day. Do any of you have a digital version of the lyric of those wav.-files, I'm interested. I must say that his musicial style has changed dramatically since OaMoT, and WfS! The positiveness is lost. If anyone (i.e. Airdance) meets him, wish him the best! He really seem stroken by TAmos. There isn't any chance that she in fact is the girl of SDV, is there? I know about the story that it was a model of a mag, but I'm just wondering. Does anyone know if there are any plans for touring? The chance that he'll reach Sweden isn't even dreamable, even though I have a perfect location for a concert in my living-room...
That's all. Please send me a feedback on this if you want to , and btw please increase the DT-content on the list.
-is security after all a cause or symptom of happiness. Moore -89
