I have Mind Control... it's good -- there are some awesome instrtumental
parts, but if your taste leans to LatM quality, you'll hate it... where there
are vocals, the sound quality is actually kinda bad, esp by Dt standards...
the instrumental parts are good though. Personally, I say if you have the

Anyone see the latest GuitarWorld?? VAI, SATRIANI, JOHNSON!!! It's happening!!!
I had heard some rumors, but I didn't know this was actually becoming a reality!! Yes!!
Here's the press release: (sorry if this is all old news to everyone....)

    G3 = THREE GREAT GUITARS:
JOE SATRIANI, ERIC JOHNSON, STEVE VAI
JOIN FORCES FOR A MAJOR U.S. TOUR THIS FALL

The most influential Rock Instrumental guitarists of the past decade--Joe Satriani,
Eric Johnson, and Steve Vai -- are joining forces this fall for a major U.S. tour
titled G3. The tour begins October 11, 1996 in San Francisco and is set to run for
approximately six weeks and 25-30 performances. Each guitarist will play a full
set with his band and the evening will conclude with all three guitarists performing
together. This will be the first time these three premiere guitarists have appeared
and toured together. Steve Vai will start off the evening, followed by Eric Johnson,
    followed by Joe Satriani.

In the course of redefining the role of the electric guitar in pop music, Joe Satriani
has sold more than seven million albums and earned six Grammy Award
nominations. Before his solo career took off in the mid-'80s, Satriani was a Bay
Area guitar teacher whose students included Larry LaLonde of Primus, Kirk
Hammett of Metallica, and... Steve Vai! Joe's latest Relativity Records album, the
eponymous Joe Satriani (released October, '95), was produced by Glyn Johns,
whose historic credits include the Rolling Stones' "Honky Tonk Woman" and
"Jumpin' Jack Flash," the Beatles' Let It Be, and Led Zeppelin I. Satriani recently
completed a tour that spanned four continents in support of his latest album; after
this upcoming U.S. trek, he will begin work on his Epic Records label debut
    album.

Venus Isle, the new album by Eric Johnson, will be released on Capitol Records
in September 3, 1996. Venus Isle is the long awaited follow-up to Johnson's
extremely successful 1990 near-platinum album, Ah Via Musicom. Ah Via
Musicom, driven by the Grammy Award-winning song, "Cliffs of Dover," kept
Johnson's band on the road for nearly three years. That particular tune earned the
historic distinction of being the first instrumental track to break into the Top 5 on
both the Billboard and Radio & Records rock radio charts, and ranked #9 on
R&R's 1991 year-end chart. Johnson was voted Best Overall Guitarist for four
years running in Guitar Player, in addition to being voted into their "Gallery of
Greats." Musician elected Eric as one of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th
Century" in the February 1993 issue. Guitar named Johnson "Instrumental Guitarist
of the Year" in their 1991 Readers Choice Awards and in 1993 included Johnson
in their list of the 10 Most Important Guitarists of the Past 10 Years. Highlights on
the new disc include "S.R.V.," a tribute to the late Stevie Ray Vaughan; and the
Wes Montgomery- flavored jazz track "Manhattan." Venus Isle is Johnson's third
album as a solo artist, with his previous two releases combined having sold more
    than 1.5 million copies worldwide.

Steve Vai will make his Epic label debut September 17, 1996 with Fire Garden,
the new solo album produced, arranged and engineered by Steve himself.
Featuring 18 new tracks including the four-part "Fire Garden Suite," the album is
the latest of six successful solo recordings for the man Frank Zappa once dubbed
    "my little Italian virtuoso."

Since his brilliant professional career began with Zappa in 1980, through his work
with David Lee Roth, Whitesnake and others (not to mention his memorable
performance as the Devil's guitar player in the Walter Hill movie Crossroads),
Vai's worldwide sales as a solo recording artist total more than 2.7 million--and
over 10.8 million if one includes his work with other artists. In addition to a
multitude of worldwide guitar honors, Vai has earned three Grammy nominations,
one of which resulted in a win for Best Rock Instrumental Performance on the
critically acclaimed album Zappa's Universe. Whether as guitar player, producer,
film composer or orchestrator, Steve Vai continues to be an exciting and visionary
    musician.

The new GuitarWorld has a tour poster and a major feature with Steve. You can
get more info at www.vai.com, satriani.com, and ericjohnson.com. Check it out! Later,
    jammers!

Hiya, Kids. Just got back from one of the greatest concerts in all of history: King Crimson.

God, it was awsome. Belew can really rock the house, as can Levin and Gunn (those three +REALLY+ impressed me)...and Mr. Fripp? He's my god. He's just that good.

Let's see. They played Red, Dinosaur, One Time, Neurotica, Elephant Talk, Thela Hun Jingeet, The Sheltering Sky, Vrooom, Thrak, among others, but the kicker: they played 21st century schzoid man. woah. that was awsome.

Wow. They were just increadbible, and for those of you who haven seen them, you know i'm not kidding. I'm offically a full-fledged Crimson fan, so you're gonna just have to deal with it. :)

OK, seems things are rotten in Ytseland. No fun.

Marcel is still MIA on the Carpe Diem discs. I'm taking matters into my own hands. Anyone who has an order pending with Marcel, I am going to attempt to help out until the CD thing gets back underway. 1. If you have a current order with him, please mail me (if you wish) a self-addressed, stamped packet, plus a blank cassette of your choice. I will dub the disc for you so at least you can hear the material while you're waiting for the real thing. 2. I cannot do this on DAT as it would (in my opinion) unfairly counterfeit Marcel's product. Sorry DAT folks. 3. I finally re-purchased a new CD-R burner for my own computer. I am going to attempt to take some of the workload off Marcel in the near future by burning the discs myself... PROVIDED that _I_ am able to get things running without starting fires in the wiring. :) Plus, I still have to discuss this with Marcel and he hasn't had time to answer my e-mail about it, so I don't know exactly where this stands. Point being, I made an agreement with the USA ordering Jammers for Carpe Diem and with Marcel that I would forward and order and a product would then be delivered to them. Even though I'm not the cause of the delay, I feel my integrity is compromised by the non-delivery.

OK, now on to Tim Lodge, his CDs, and the complaints. Tim has, as long as I have known him, been reputable. He has gone out of his way to insure that he delivers a quality product. If he has not delivered what you paid for, I would be shocked if I found out it was a ripoff. I think what really happened is, he is currently on summer vacation (so he can't answer e-mail), and when he gets home, he will have to resolve these missed orders and do re-sends. If he does not agree to re-send this CD or refund your money, please let me know... I'll talk to him. If that fails, the entire Ytsejam list will be angry, a la Jeremy Haynes & Al Balkiewicz.

And don't doubt the incompetence of the delivery industry! I lose about $400 on each CD run in income because of lost packages. The shipments are insured so I'm reimbursed for the physical disc when it's lost (though I get that recompense 6 months later thanks to USPS claims department) I lose out on postage to and fro, transportation and shipping labor, and I also have a customer who thinks, for a short time at least, that he or she has been defrauded of his/her money. This is unacceptable to me personally. My integrity is all I have that nobody can take away, so I refuse to lose it arbitrarily. If anyone EVER, I mean EVER, has a problem receiving a CD from me, PLEASE let me know, be outcoming with the details, and I appreciate your patience while I attempt a solution, usually a re-send coupled with a recall order (trace). I intend to deliver 100% of the CDs ordered from me. I would hope Tim Lodge intends no less than this, and Marcel Berkhout as well. It's tough, and sometimes we get bitten, but in the long run, taking short term losses to insure that I've satisfied a customer, is what makes future CDs possible.

Finally, I notice that there are Jammers owed tapes, and it's entirely possible some of them are from me. I know I owe Matt Erwich some tapes... sorry about the delay Matt, they're comin' along, I promise! :) If I owe anyone else tapes, I plead guilty, I'll recopy and resend, just let me know. I've been so busy with CDs that I've let a few trades slip by. And oh yes, Joe Cristina, your Subcon re-copy will accompany a CD within the next week or so (whenever Storm is ready).

OK, it's time to get back to work. The Jam has returned for the school year. We're all getting re-acquainted. I plan to PARTY HARD at the Ytsecon III... I will be bringing drinks and I hope I'm not alone, and after the con, I want to get COMPLETELY wasted with you guys and girls. Trust me, you want this; I give stuff away when I'm drunk. :)

My annual BIG POST (Tm) "Mike Bahr's THOUGHTS ON THINGS IN GENERAL" is a bit overdue... it'll be ready this week I think, it will be very long, possibly as long as 2 or more Jams. I hope you all find it worthwhile reading. I will address a LOT of issues. Last year, I took everyone through the 5 Essential Dream Theater moments (they were: a. the end of Innocence Faded; b. The Crimson Sunset {remember ACOS wasn't out yet and I was going off a promo copy, and I think it really primed people up}; c. Voices bridge "I'm lying here in bed..."; d. "Likely or not it's a dream that we keep and at odds with our senses we'll climb...but if faith is the answer, we've already reached it, and if spirit's a sign, then it's only a matter of time"; e. the chorus of Pull Me Under, which got most of us into DT to begin with.) This year, I have another Big Five to address, but it's a surprise. I also addressed the CD creation. At the time, Acoustic Dreams was brand new, Cygnus was selling, Subcon was almost sold out, and WDATU was on the back burner. Antiquities and so on weren't even an itch in my pants yet. :) I talked about the state of music in general, about getting along with the band members when you meet them, about touring, music, theory, song structure, socialization, the status of the Jam, thanked those who've made it fun for all of us, and so on. You know, the kind of post that Bafu does better than I do. :)

So I guess that's on the horizon for the near future. I hope you all find it worthwhile reading. Take it easy everyone!!

    Hi there,

A friend of mine who has gone to study in Japan has found 4 copies of "Uncovered". They were the last ones of the store and it becomes difficult to find... The cost is 8000 Japanese Yen each including postage in priority mail or 8500 JPY each if you want a registred parcel. I would point that I don't make money selling them at this price. This is only the price it costed, not more. You send me the money, in Japanese Yen only, and as soon as I've received the money, I send you the CD. Very simple... If you are interested, e-mail me and the 4 first to e-mail me will have their copy reserved.

    Hello everybody!

I was in attendance on Friday night at the show. I was thouroughly impressed with all the guest musicians. Chuck Bonafante ( the drummer for E.M. ) gladly gave up use of his set to another capable drummer named Chuck Berge. Chuck played only one song, Jeff Beck's "I'm going down" amazingly. After that came the moment everyone was waiting for. The boys came up, and played with Greg Smith. Let me tell you, Greg can play with the best of them, the other guys you already know about. The best part was on Saturday afternoon I go into Romeo's pizza for lunch, and who should be in there? None other than John Petrucci. We spoke for only a minute as he was heading back to his Mom's house, and then home, but he did say thanks to everyone who came out.

Kobayashi: Really cocky shirt Syrinx, and Ibanez: You guys are losers for driving three hours for a 30 minute jam. Other than that you are cool.

Mojo: I think you and I have had some stranger nights together with the Girls."Senor Cahill, donde esta tu ropa?" Nuff said. Elen sila lumenn omentilmo, Mithrandir

Please send in *any* GC-related ? you would like answered to either Michael or me (our addresses are below). Michael is going to be actually writing it and laying out the major design of it, and I'm going to be helping him with questions, research, asking around other newsgroups/listservs, and also archiving it on my GC page. The DT FAQ is so good, and we might model the GC FAQ after it in some way.

We'll cover the basics like background, discog, etc; but if there's anything that you'd like answered send it in to us. Questions about songs, movie cameos (*grin*), stuff like "are those real phone calls at the end of 'Where Are You Now?'" or whatever ? you have. Send to:

Can someone give me a list of Petrucci clinics and/or tell me if Dream Theater ever preforms between Tennessee, Georgia, and Louisiana? Has any one got the JP guitar instructional video & is it any good??? ($50 worth?) How many of you are musicians? And do you play DT covers? Are any of you in the Tennessee area and need another guitar player?

    Later..... The Ironman

    >anyone videotape the tori thing on abc (anna, airdance?). anyone see the new >singles to "professional widow" and/or "hey jupiter"? anyone care?

nope, didn't tape it, cuz i didn't know it was on until it was on...i was just lucky :) and i recently purchased the "hey jupiter" single...it's pretty good. it's got 5 songs on it -- 4 live. and the version of "hey jupiter" is really good, along with the other four songs. i'd list them, but i don't want to piss off anyone who has yet to purchase it, if you want to know what's on it, you can e-mail me. (umjg72d@prodigy.com) that's all i gotta say...til next time...
