Hello, I was just wondering, how many of you have had the chance to hear Shadow Gallery's 1st album? (It's self titled). I just got it about a week ago (after ordering it 4 and a half months ago and shelling out $32.00!), and I've got just one thing to say: I would have paid twice twice that!:) These guys are truly incredible. I saw on their web page that a tour was planned for next year, does anyone have any info on this? (Hey maybe they'll be with DT! Wouldn't that be nice?)

    Hey Jammers -

I just read some of the recent jams and noticed some posts concerning CD's and Videos that I owe people. So to anyone who I still owe stuff to, it will be in your hands SOON.

I had tried to email *everyone* who was owed items concerning the status of the shipping, but unfortunately, some people (who have posted here) were not notified. For this I apoligize..and everything will be shipped out by this weekend, or by early next week at the LATEST.

I just have finished moving into a new place and have just started school again, so things have naturally been really crazy..as I'm sure most student jammers know all about. Also, my father has been going through some pretty harsh cancer treatments starting these past few weeks, and for anyone who has ever been though a major disease with a family member, you know how hectic things can get.

I want the entire jam to know that all of the cd's and stuff that I have been selling is done purely as a service to the 'jam. This is not some kind of "cash cow" for me personally...it doesn't pay the bills, it doesn't buy me a 1997 mustang GT convertible, it doesn't even buy me an extra value meal at McDonalds. :) So I just want everyone to know that this is not some kind of "scam" that I am running. For the 1 customer who seems legitimatly pissed off about the tardiness of the shipping, I'm sure there are 9 who had no problems whatsoever.

So just to reiterate, if anyone has stuff pending with me, it will be shipped by this weekend, or by early next week at the latest. If anyone has any questions, please feel to email me at axe@nai.net

    Thanks,

    Tim L. axe@nai.net

    Jam 1780:

    >Raise the Knife (11:15) >Where are you Now (7:15) >Take Away my Pain (6:35) >You or Me (5:55) >Anna Lee (6:35) >Burning my Soul (9:00) >The Way it Used to Be (8:00) >Lines in the Sand (5:15) >Just Let me Breathe (5:15)

I remember about a month or so ago, some enterprising soul wrote in regarding the song abbreviations we're going to have to deal with here. I remember he said something like the following:

LITS (undoubtedly will result in mixups with Live In Tokyo, "LIT") WAYN (related to GART??) BMS (uh oh, it's that time of the month again) AL (as in You Can Call Me...)

    and I have some more.

TAMP (the first thing that comes to mind ain't pretty... "hey, someone put TAMP on") YOM (we can brush up on our Hebrew) TWIUTB (I think this is some obscure birdcall)

"Just Let Me Breathe"-- the Obscene Phone-caller's Song

And come on, you silly Jammers... Metropolis Part 2 is THE WHOLE ALBUM!! A 78-minute song, just divided up into separately titled indexed sections for Convenient Listening. Duh!

BTW, to Rakjai Piter, about your password, 838025231-- funny, that's the password I have on my luggage...!

OK, I must apologize to all the gillible Jammers. This didn't happen. What *really* happened is that Derek came out with sheep shears after they all jammed and he shaved Mike's head clean.

    Hey dude..

You haven't got your CD's yet? I just read your post on the ytsejam, and I hope I can clarify things for you....

I have NOT gotten tons of messages from you....and have certainly not been ignoring the situation and/or your messages.

Things have been crazy for me lately, and for this I apologize. I'd be pissed too if I had to wait a long time to get CD's that I had already paid for..and my check had been cashed 6 weeks ago, etc, etc.

If you have not gotten your stuff yet, I am shipping another huge amount by the weeks end..all of that stuff goes out 1st class or 2 day priority mail (depending on the weight of the package)..so you should have the stuff very soon.

Once again, you have my apoligies for this mess, and I hope we can do business or trading or something in the future.

    Take care,

    Tim Lodge axe@nai.net

Although we have no verification yet that Rush rescinded their permission (if ever given) to record WORKING MAN, some facts ARE known:

    1. Core Music Publishing declined to allow WORKING MAN to be licensed in Canada. So in effect the CD is indeed banned in Canada. Source: email from Magna Carta (which also said the CD was not banned in the States).

    2. Someone sent a letter to some, perhaps most or all, Canadian record stores asking them not to order the CD because (the letter claimed) Rush wasn't getting any royalties from it, and because the sound quality on the CD was inferior. 'Scuse me? Terry Brown -produced- the damn thing! It is not yet clear whether this letter was sent by Rush, their management or their label, or if it was authorized by all three, but to me, it smacks of dirty pool. I hear nothing wrong with the CD (except possibly "Mission," which seems a bit flatter than the songs recorded on this side of the Pond). Source: an initial post on the NMS from a fan mentioning the letter (but without specifics, since he felt it might get someone in trouble), then a followup from someone elsewhere in Canada with more info.

As mentioned at www.crl.com/~vanyel/index.html#protest, I am not boyvotting the new CD, just deferring my purchase for a bit. When a band who has touted the freedom of music and information countenances this sort of crap, I get a little upset.

    Hey!

Well, I just got home from the KISS show at Arco Arena. It started off with me showing up at the Arena about two hours early. I already had a ticket, but it was in the nosebleeds and I'd heard you can get good seats right before showtime so I thought I'd give it a try. Boy am I glad I did! I went from 10 rows from the ceiling to about 16 rows from the stage! I was in the second row in the risers on the right side of the stage, and when I counted from the stage to the floor row in front of me 16 was 16 rows. I couldn't have been more than 50 feet from the stage.

The show started right on time at 7:30 with opening act Stabbing Westward. They are a Industrial/Gothic band in the Ministry vein. They played for :25 and wree really awesome. I'll have to make sure I see them when they hit the Club Circuit.

KISS came on at 8:30 and played for about :115. Out of the three times I've seen the original line up (Anaheim Stadium 76, Detroit 96 the other two) this was by far the best! From the opening riff of Deuce through the final encore they were extremely tight. This was definitely the show I've wanted to see from KISS. The only real screw up of the night was everyone in the band was off at the beginning of 100,000 Years, and never really got it right, But those things happen. Gene and Paul were how they've always been; Ace was absolutey great tonight and during his solo he didn't do that stupid 'Who Fucking Rules!' line. Peter was MUCH BETTER than he was at Detroit. In his Drum solo he actually added to it and the second part of it he actually showed some of his old brilliance. Dave, remember at the Detroit show how I said that Peter looked different? I wonder if.............. NAH! The band must have gotten the word that everyone knew that the 'crying' at the end of Beth was fake, because Peter didn't do it this time.

All the pyro stuff and tricks went off without a hitch and the Band seemed to genuinly be having a good time. The set list was pretty much the same as Detroy-it from what I remember. The changes were that they didn't do 2,000 Man, Christine Sixteen or Rock Bottom; and they added I Stole Your Love. On a scale of 1-10 I give it a 9 or 9+. I highly recommend going to see KISS as often as possible. I initally was against the reunion and the Tiger Stadium show only reaffirmed that; but the show at Arco really gives a good arguement for having them back together.

Great post, Kent!! You hit upon several key things which, unfortunately, come with the territory.

    > From: skooc@earthlink.net > Subject: Re: To those who are pissed at Rush for opposing the tribute

    > Just because someone speaks the truth about a band doesn't mean they're > not a fan.

    Whose truth?

I could be reacting to several recent brain spasms, but what I locked onto in Kent's post was that we don't know the truth. Show me some hard evidence of half the bullshit that's spewed forth on the Net (actually you could pick just about any medium) concerning this topic and I'll be happy to start passing judgement :)

    > If it's true Rush is trying to... ^^

    WHY?

My favorites so far are Carved and TFE.

I really could give a rat's ass about whether they sell 18 bazillion discs, or if it becomes a background track for some famous movie or Sony walkman commercial. If I don't even know the damn NAME of the song, so what!!! I like the way it SOUNDS!

I posted this earlier, but I don't know if it ever made it to the JAM; I'm missing a number of JAMs from that period, possibly due to that major West Coast power outage.

    >>>"To seek the sacred river Alph, and walk the caves of ice..." - Rush

The text to Rush's *Xanadu* is actually derived directly from *Kubla Khan* by the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

This is also true of Iron Maiden's *Rime of the Ancient Mariner* also by STC

This brings up another point that's been up on the 'Jam recently. There have been some complaints about the quality of lyrics on Magellen's latest CD. I agree, although I must say that I do like the music and vocal presentation (except for the lack of real drums-Anthony, Clockworks).

The lyrics are weak largely because they're trying to fit the lyrics into the music, even if they don't fit. This is particularly true on the piece about Magellen, wherein they seem to have drawn the lyrics from book text. This is not a good idea. Even when the text is rhythmic, as in *Kubla Khan*, Rush (Peart) had to arrange the poem somewhat so that it would be rhythmically and syllabically correct in *Xanadu*.

For those of you who are church-goers, a lot of the contemporary choruses, especially home-grown ones, suffer from the same disease: the composer(s) try to fit a Biblical verse into a tune, and the two just clash, at least to my ears. Bono (U2, especially on War) & Gary Cherone (Extreme, especially on 3 Sides..) do a much better job of weaving Biblical text into songs.

    >>>F/ JAM 1779: if you have wdatu..listen to Ytsejam.. jaimz says "this kicks serious butt this is ytsejam."

I already mentioned this on JAM 1777

I think that bands like DT should not take this long between albums. People forget about them and then their popularity diminishes. They haven't toured for quite awhile, no new album for quite awhile either. If it wasn't for this list, how many of us would still wonder about DT on a daily basis?

Cairo vs Enchant-Who do people like better? I prefer Enchant as Cairo is far too keyboard oriented. I think Enchant reminds me of Rush with a singer with a lower voice.

I just got Permanent Waves from Rush via BMG as I try to fill out my Rush cd collection. This cd is an awesome cd. I never see it mentioned as people's favorite Rush cd. Why is that?

I also just got Power by Kansas for cheap at a store. Steve Morse plays on this one and I like this album. I think a lot of Kansas fans knock this album big time. Why is that?

cdconnection.com has shipped me a copy of Working Man. I guess Magna Carta made some more. Also I was a Tower Records in Vienna VA and I noticed that they had 3 copies of WM for 15.99. I also noticed something wierd that they also had a magna carta slot in the bands section. This was the only record company with a slot.
