Okay, Jim or somebody please enlighten me! I just joined this list
yesterday, so I don't know what CD you are talking about. You see, I live in
a cave and just recently gained access to the net. (Which reminds me, I've

I just read this in a transcription of Billboard's article about the
upcoming release of Rush' "Test For Echo" (July 27th '96) I found on
    http://www.syrinx.umd.edu/ (I think) :

    > Rush plans to tour behind Test For Echo starting Oct. 18 in Albany,
    > N.Y., and will swing through various points in North America until
    > early next year, according to Lifeson. The band will return in the

    > London's Hammersmith Odeon, according to Lifeson.

    Cool ! Another live-album :)

Btw, check out Neil Peart's official guidebook and user's manual
for "Test For Echo"... :) Also on that site...

    ODTC:

Maybe Rush could cover "The Ytsejam" on a Dream Theater tribute, to be
released by Magna Carta :) Sounds cool to me ! I'm *evil* >:)

Again, the long post is forthcoming.

            I have a new e-mail address: durnik@goodnet.com. I didn't want
it, I still don't want it, but I'm stuck with it. My old ISP,
indirect.com, was bought out by local competitor Goodnet. I'm trying to
set up a virtual mail reflector so I can still get indirect.com mail for
a while, but please save me the trouble if you can and mail me directly
    at the new address durnik@goodnet.com.

Other things. I guess they didn't have room for Metropolis II on
the new album... heh. Yeah Right. It'll be a special release of some
sort, we can count on it.

Type O Negative: October Rust... yup, they've sold out.
Strangely, it doesn't bother me, nor do I fail to enjoy this album
because of it. It's basically a continuation of Bloody Kisses, adding in
the elements they began on the road last year. I've been listening to
this more than Test for Echo! Way!! :) For once, a blatant sellout album
is actually carefully written and decently played. No Diver Down here...

Rush TFE.... Driven and Dog Years aside, this album would be
Counterparts II in both content and quality. Those two are
masterpieces... no kidding. And please don't ask me for dubs. Wait the
damned week and a half and buy the real thing. :)

That's mainly it for now. I have a ton of mail that I have to
save from certain death, so I'll get back to that.

I've only been on for about a year now, but when I took over the faq it
looked almost exactly the way it did right after ACoS came out. So, I
guess those questions were frquently asked at one point.

Also, the faq is the only place I've seen a lot of the trivia that's in
there. Maybe they're not faq's, but I think that the list as it is now
is a good repository for information (frequently asked or not :).

[big-ass snip] If I had the will-power to resist buying TfE as soon as it comes out, I would join the protest. Here's why:

It's the only way to get our message across to the band. They *obviously* don't read what we have to say on the "inter-thingy", even assuming Jimmy Lang would let it all go through. Neil doesn't read his Modern Drummer mail anymore. There is, as far as I see, only one other way to send a message to Ged, Alex (happy birthday yesterday!) and Neil that we are pissed that they wasted a lot of people's time and money by going back on their word.

They rely on their fans for their success. Radio helps somewhat, MTV virtually ignores them. It's up to us. And they fucked about 20 or so of us, their fans - the ones that spent their summer paying homage to them. I don't appreciate that.

    That's my $0.02 + s/h on that one.

    Hey Jammers,

A few reply-like thingies, then a comment or two...

In a message dated 96-08-28 16:35:41 EDT, Graham wrote:

<< I've ever seen anyone ask "What was the original title of Surrounded?", "Has anybody noticed the Another Song phenomenon?" or "What is unique about the song 'A Change Of Seasons'?"! :-) >>

As to the Surrounded Question, and the ACoS question, I do not know, however, I vividly recall a discussion a little over a year and a half ago regarding the "another" song issue.

    then...

BABS Wrote: <<So the only danger I see at this point is traffic...

Hey Babs, How ya doin.... In NYC, Traffic is NOTHING to take lightly!!! ;)

    Now, an original or two...

Regarding Some of the RUSH Tribute comments: 1: YES, almost NOTHING we have heard has been substantiated. 2: Yes, if true (Legal action), this sucks. 3: Either way, all the music should be heard, and enjoyed by all. 4: Rush should be made aware that their is strong support for the tribute, and conversely, strong backlash against any action they may take. THAT'S IT, NO MORE TO SAY.

    (except, on a related note...)

RUSH IS NOT A SELL OUT. They MAY currently have a tude problem (not substantiated, but...). They MAY have pissed off a lot of their original fans who were unable to make the transition into the 80's and 90's styles. But they still, and ALWAYS have made great music. In case I've missed something, THAT is what counts!! I really like their WORST album!! SO those that have a problem with Rush, Try Selling all of your RUSH CD's (in fact, why not organize a burning!!). Otherwise, please quit slamming a band that A LOT of us still respect and support. IF (and this is a HUMONGOUS IF) Magna Carta is in any way seriously injured by this, that will be a shame. However, the attention this label is getting out of this may end up being more beneficial to them than detrimental.

the "hotel across the street", as it was mentioned here, ain't no ordinary street! it's the GRAND CENTRAL FUCKING PARKWAY! so you probably have to take a little shuttle bus or something like that.

um, looking at the program list of the dt album of the future (11 minutes, 8, 9, 6, 5 years, 3 weeks, 2 days and 7 hours), i can see they're really going out of their way to make the album more commercial (or if speak politicially correct, "radio-friendly"). maybe when this comes out, a new fashion trend will start, and people will rush to tower records to get their copies of the "new" "heart of the sunrise" cd maxi single. maybe soundgarden will cover "karn evil 9" while we're at it, or oasis "firth of fifth."

So, I doubt that this is the true length of the songs. Also, since they haven't even started recording these tracks they can't possibly be correct. Could someone correct me if I'm just shootting my mouth off. And I also have I question about Metropolis Part 2. Why does everyone when they list the tracks call it by its "second" name. It would be like calling Metropolis, The Miracle and The Sleeper. Could someone tell me which track is part 2? John

    Ummm is it.... engs-hummer? angs-hammer?

Anyway, if you are a guitarist, and don't have all the other videos out there, I would say do not hesitate to get Petrucci's vid. It's _Two Hours_ long... so you can consider it buying 2 videos, for $25 each. I of course found a way to get mine for $40. Don't ever let the guys at Guitar Center say "that's the lowest I can go"... because they lie. That's why I had to quit... I don't like lying. Even when they show you a "Cost screen" when you insist on it... that's not cost. It's 10% above cost.

Bat back to JP... his video is excellent all around, but there were very few things I haven't seen before as far as techniques are concerned. Metronome licks, scales, modes, chords, arpeggios, warm ups, and exercises... you're basic all encompassing video. It would have saved me a lot of money 4 years ago... but now it's just sort of cool to have. If you are only just getting into fast playing, I suggest getting Richie Kotzen's video. It's from before he went "hip" or "wierd". That has all kinds of great legato licks to practice to build left hand speed. Other than that, all you need is a metronome and the "Paul Gilbert" four note practice lick, and it should fall into place after a good deal of hard work.

Yes he said so. They have material to record but many of those songs won't make it in the cd. The ones listed are the "official" ones (in a manner of speaking) that will come in the cd. That's why MP said that he wanted a double cd, so they could record all the material they've written. Hope I'm not wrong and that this cleared any doubt.

Back to Working Man, shit I can't find the damn cd in PR. Spec's told me they wouldn't even order it. And the other ones I went to told me that I had to order it and it would cost me about $20...shit.
