Technically, yes, but if all the FAQ has is stuff that we already
know... why bother? Might as well make it interesting. Maybe it
should be a LKF (little known fact) list... ?

    > >Listen to

    > They didn't go commercial.

    That's just denial, man.
You don't have to say they sold out... they had a financially based
artistic crossover... but once they hit, they became a different
band. There's just no way to say that they didn't change when they
money came in. Hey, don't get me wrong... most of my favorite Rush
tunes came AFTER they were huge... but they are human.

I will add that I think the last few Rush albums, ESPECIALLY
Counterparts, have been way sub-par, as far as I'm concerned. Flame
me if you think I'll care what you call sacrilage, but there's no way
you'll change my mind on that. I can't find any redeeming qualities
    on Counterparts.

Oh well... Let's hope when Rush grows up they remember how to play
    like Rush.

    Megadeth CyberArmy Wants You!
    asylumfan@aol.com

    My Friends,
I wish I could answer you each personally but I'm currently in the
midst of recording the demos for the new Megadeth album. First I'd like to
say thank you very much for writing and to be forgiving for this late
response. I've received e-mail from literally everywhere in the world, from
Siberia to Cincinnatti,Turkey to Tokyo,Paris to Peru. I want to thank you
for your insight and opinions, I've learned alot from what you have
    written.

` I've also finished a new solo Lp called,"True Obsessions". It is
available right now in Japan on EMI, it will be out in the U.S. late
September. I'm still negotiating with record labels in Europe and South
America about it's release in those territories. The U.S.version contains a
bonus track not on any other version. I found an ancient recording of the
song, "Thunder March" which was cut as a demo in 1987,( a year and a half
before the "Dragon's Kiss" version was cut) and mixed it and put it at the
    end of "True Obsessions".
For those of you in foreign countries, it's available right now on
EMI in Thailand, Korea, Malaysia. In Sept. Canada and Mexico will be added.

Alot of you had concern for my friend Jason Becker. He is not doing
as well as we all would like, but is very positive and despite truly
inhuman conditions has created a masterpiece new album called
"Perspective". Let him be an example to us all. I truly believe and pray
that he will get better. You can contact him at PO Box 5109 Richmond,CA
    94805

I'll answer some of the most asked questions-
My set up is a Jackson Kelley guitar (now Marty Friedman signature
model(KE-1) that has just now-finally!-gone into production)
            Seymour Duncan TB4 pickups
Crate Blue Voodoo 120 Watt amp
            Alvarez acoustics and electric-acoustics
Bradshaw switching system, 2 Yamaha SPX 900s Samson Concert series
wireless(live only!)Future Sonics ear monitors. Dean Markley .010-.052
    strings, heavy picks. Alvarez acoustics.
I have 3 solo LPs out right now; "Dragon's
Kiss","Scenes","Introduction" and a 4th on the way. There is more guitar on
    the 4th one,"True Obsessions" than the last 2 combined. I hope that's a
good thing. I really prepared for this one, more than the others.
I have 4 instructional videos out now:
"Exotic Lead Guitar" (Hot Licks Video)
            "Melodic Control" (Inside Edge Video)
"Guitar Kids Ganbatte" (Young Guitar Video) Japan only.
"The Essential Marty Friedman" (Warner Communications) U.S. release
in Sept.- available now in Japan by Rittor Music.
I would say the "Exotic.." video has the most difficult fingerings
and strange patterns, the "Melodic..." has the most useful direction in
creating good unique solos, "Guitar Kids..." has me speaking Japanese and
some interesting long arpeggio fingerings, and "Essential..." has the most
all around information in it and the most actual playing.
The Megadeth tour was great, long and gratifying. It was great
meeting people from the most diverse cultures that had one(at least) thing
    in common....
Also alot of you have asked about tab for my solo albums. "Scenes"
tab is available but in Japan only through Doremi. My new album's tab will
also be available, but not until autumn. One song from "True Obsessions" is
transcrined in the May issue of Japan's 'Young Guitar' magazine, and
another in Japan's 'Guitar' and another in Japan's 'Player'.
If you would like to send me your tapes, or any correspondence, you
    can write me directly at P.O.box 12971 Scottsdale,AZ 85267-2971.
Thanx again for e-mailing and take care of yourselves! M.F.

P.S. My best advice to those who ask is practice your favorite music
first-so when you eventually have your own style, it will be a unique
combination of your influeces. Also, don't waste time practiing 8-9 hours a
day, get 1-3 hours of truly FOCUSED practice in at a time and leave
yourself time to have experiences and emotions from which you can
eventually draw from and put into your music.

    Personally, I got 65:05, but YMMV. :)

I assume that these are only the songs that are going to be included. I'm
sure JP realized when he said they had 100 minutes of material, that only 74
minutes (approx) would actually fit on a CD (again YMMV). There are probably
several other songs (including Metropolis, pt II) that were left off for
space reasons. I'll bet we'll see some of them as B-sides.

    >off. And I also have I question about Metropolis Part 2. Why does

Actually, I don't think it's included on the list. (Of course if it is, and
it's listed under the subtitle, then *I'm* the idiot. :))

    Hi Lisa,

Mike Bahr is one of the biggest celebrities here on the ytsejam.
Oh, he's not very well known outside the list, but he has gained
renowned fame here as the person who has made it a goal in life
to provide all of us jammers with quality CDs featuring rare
studio outtakes, live performances, and other...er...um, legally
    challenged material. =)

The Critical Mass CD I spoke of is a 2CD set of a complete live
Rush concert from the Counterparts tour; I hear it's the only
quality bootleg from that tour. Like I said in my original post,
I was blown away by the recording quality and the performances.
A definite must-have for any Rush fan.

If you want more information on all of Mike's CDs (some of which,
alas, have long been sold out), then go to this web site:

    http://www.columbia.edu/~jc309/archives/ginfo/mikebahr.html

If you don't have web access, you could mail him at durnik@goodnet.com
and he can send you a copy of his latest update.

Hope you don't mind me speaking for you here, Mike!

    Happy 'jamming,

    Jim

CD NOW (http://cdnow.com) has it listed for $14.79, of course you have to add tax & s/h charges. They say it takes 3 to 8 days for delivery. If you care (and I don't want to start an argument), they also have Test For Echo for $14.96 available for advance order (mine will be shipped FedEx the day of release!)

You're probably right. We don't notice because we have IRC and clinics and Mike Bahr and Working Man. But the rest of the world has heard nothing from the guys in a while. Damn. Well, they'll be back out there in public kicking ass again soon, don't worry.

    > I just got Permanent Waves from Rush via BMG as I try to fill out my Rush > cd collection. This cd is an awesome cd. I never see it mentioned as > people's favorite Rush cd. Why is that?

It's too short for my tastes. Yeah, I love every song on there, but there are only 6 of them. That means I have to change the CD too often. I'd much rather listen to Exit Stage Left, which is about twice as long.

BTW, I'm in the same boat as you, rounding off my Rush CD collection. Here's an idea for you - buy used CDs. I already owned Power Windows on tape, why would I spend another $16 to own it on CD? I just got a used PoW CD the other day for $7. Great condition, too. I'm doing the same with my VH collection - got Diver Down for $6. Music's the same, the booklet's just a little dog-eared.

To date their last show previous to the DS Birthay show was at the end of december 1996 in old bridge NJ. granted it was a small sho it was still only a mere 9 mos ago. I honestly enjoy the wait between CD's it raises the anticipation and the mystery of the new music. But I respect your opinion i just feel that the longer the wait the more quality the music will have

Three years isn't that bad to wait for an album. They gave us ACOS right? I think it would suck big time if they waited 4 years to release an album like Queensryche did.

    > I just got Permanent Waves from Rush via BMG as I try to fill out my Rush > cd collection. This cd is an awesome cd. I never see it mentioned as > people's favorite Rush cd. Why is that?

Permanent Waves is my all time favorite Rush CD. And ever since learning how to play most of "natural science" on guitar it has become my favorite Rush song.

Hey, I just caught the King's X/Galactic Cowboys show in St. Louis last night. Saw 3 DT shirts there (one I&W era and two awake). Since people have already posted reviews and set lists here, I won't bother, but I do want to say that it was one amazing show. KX are some killer musicians, and GC really gave off an energetic set. Any jammers there? If so, I was the guy wearing the Red Dwarf t-shirt. Well, I better take a shower and relax some more before work (since I'm tired and stink. Cheers.
