..to request written reviews of the show for the fanzine. :D I'm going to
work on it over Christmas break (which starts one week from today pour moi),
and while I have lots of stuff this time around (like a Portnoy interview),
I want MORE! MORE! MORE! Is that too much to ask? :D Concert reviews and
photos or anything else DT-related you have that you'd like to see in print
would just make my day. Subscription requests, too. :) (hey, it's
reasonably cheap... $1.25 for an issue or $5 for four... slightly more
    expensive for overseas)

I must request that submissions be sent to my Maraya007@aol.com account,
since I won't be able to access this one from December 14th until I come
back sometime in the middle of January....

that it's just a small Q&A thing with geddy. He also posted that there
was in interview with neil in the Houston Press in which neil says:

"Geddy told mee an interesting thing the other day - that when he was doing a
small Q&A session for Rolling Stone, the writer let slip that we are their
readers' number one most requested group for them to do a full story on," Peart
says. "But they won't because of who they are and who we are. That's a trip,
if you ask me. We're just not cool enough for them. But that's okay, because
they're not cool enough for us."

I was wondering if anybody knows whatever became of the dude who got this
mailing list started (back in '93, I guess). I think Jason Hough was his
    name.
I was just looking thru some old e-mails and ran across one that mentioned
    him.
    Just a thought, that's all.

READ IT THROUGH COMPLETELY, THERE IS ALOT OF IMPORTANT INFORMATION)

    Hey All ....

Here is my new weekly posting about how to get the most
(or least if you don't like us) out of the ytsejam. This will
be coming out weekly (hopefully) at least for a while since we are
quickly gaining subscribers since school is now back in session.
I may post it less often after a while, but for now, it will be
    weekly.

To get on to the Dream Theater Mailing List:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            subscribe ytsejam Your Name

replace Your Name with your real name (eg: Ryan Skadberg).
You should recieve a confirmation letter in the your
mailbox within 24 hours. If you do not, mail
ytsejam-owner@ax.com and I will help you out as soon
    as possible.

To change the mode you recieve the Dream Theater Mailing List in:
There are two ways you can recieve the ytsejam. The first is in
digest which is the default. This sends you a large message which
contains 15-20 emails each. The other is ack mode, which means
you recieve each piece of mail as it comes through. To do this:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            set ytsejam mail ack

You should recieve a confirmation letter within 24 hours.
If you don't, once again, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com
and I will help you out as soon as I can.

To recieve files from the Dream Theater Mailing List:

There are many files kept by the mailing list server.
The biggest group are old issues of the jam. It is
archived since 1275. If you are looking for an issue
earlier than that, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com and
I will see what I can do. There are also other files
kept on the server. These include Mike Bahr CD Updates,
The "UnOfficial" Dream Theater SongBook and some others.
Any time I add something I usually send a post to the
jam so everyone knows about it. To get a list of the
    files available from the server:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            index ytsejam

This will send you a list of all the files available from
the server. To retrieve one of these files:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            get ytsejam filename

In place of filename, put the name of the file you
    want.

    Basic Rules:

There are some basic rules to the jam which make everyone's
reading alot more pleasant. Please try and follow them as
closely as possible. I will send out warnings to people
who blatantly disobey these. You get one warning, a second
offense will get your jam priviledges taken away.

    1. Do not post just for the sake of posting. There is already
a lot of valid traffic on this list, we don't need unnecessary
posts which are a waste of everyone's time. The basic rule
you should all try to follow is to think before you post.

    2. No Top Ten (Five, Twenty, Thirty, etc) lists. These lists
are a waste. They take up alot of bandwidth and fill up
everyone's mailbox much faster than they would like it filled
up. If you want to know everyone's top somethings, please ask
for ALL responses to be mailed directly to you. This has been
done with the end results posted to the jam and it was very very
    nice.

    3. Do not start / participate in / complain about long off-topic
discussions. These have gotten WAY out of hand in the past.
If one starts, I will post once saying to stop and take it to
private email, anyone continuing the discussion will
recieve a warning. These include such topics as God, NIN, Blind
    Melon, bands selling out, etc.

    4. Private E-Mail is a wonderful thing. Use it when you think it
may be more useful than posting to the jam.

    5. Last, but not least, this is YOUR ytsejam. I am around,
and I do administrative work, but I do not say what can/cannot
be talked about (most of the time) or moderate in any real way.
I am the Ytsejam Administrator more than Moderator. Don't complain
if the jam seems to be going downhill, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Basically, that is all the basic info. As always, if you have any
problems feel free to mail me. I get ALOT of mail on a daily basis,
so it sometimes takes me a while to get back to you, but 99% of the
time, I will get back to you eventually.

Thanks for Reading and Enjoy the List!!!

    >Burning My Soul - pretty heavy with some cool time changes. The hook
    >(pre-chorus?) is REALLY catchy (Twisting.... turning...)

    ..through the never?

    >ust Let Me Breathe - way different than anything they've done so far IMHO.
    >It almost reminds me of a really progressive Extreme tune. It is
    >semi-funky and has almost "Rap-like" vocal lines.

Cool! Does James turn his hat backwards and say stuff like, "homey g-funk
dont make me get the gat and strap yo ass"? I'd get a kick outta that. :)

    >Peruvian Skies - without question my favorite song. It starts out somewhat
    >jazzy and mellow, but kicks into some amazingly progressive sections. This
    >tune has a "Yes"-epic type feel to it. The chorus features some really cool
    >vocal harmonies w/Mike, John and James.

Other versions.."L.A. Skies"...lots of fake smoke on stage to symbolize the smog
                    "Seattle Skies"...rains from club ceiling
"Cow Skies"...um. dunno. would be cool, though. :)

    >enough babbling for now.... you folks going to Birvh Hill are in for a REAL
    >treat!

Yes, and you also suck big hairy one for being able to go. :)

    >Heheh, I tried to be objective, but damn, I really like KevMo's stuff
    >and to hear that the band thinks that "Kevin's dead" really pisses me
    >off. At least they could wish him well and stuff. Terds. :P

You know, I try not to start arguments, and I don't want to set one off
here...but is it spelled terds or turds?

                            <cheezy grin>

    >Anyway, I chewn a bit more than I've bitten off...

    1. I really did NOT need to know that.
    2. "chewn" isn't a word

Stuph: Anybody wanna fly down to Las Vegas this spring to see the Atomic
Ferrets one and only show....ever? They'll be playing favorites such as
"Flower", "Big Purple Elephant", "Archimedes (There's a Large Naked Man in
My Bathtub)" and possibly a cover of DMB covering Hendrix covering Dylan.
    It'll be fun. :)

    Mark "Itchy" Bredius replied :
    > 1... Chris Squire

Actually, if you want to get technical (as I do many times) there have been
*2* members of Yes that haven't left at some stage.

    1. Chris Squire (bass, backing vocals) has been in Yes since day one, never
    left.

    2. Alan White (drums, and the very occasional backing vocal) joined back in
late 1972 after Bill Bruford left to join King Crimson. Never left.

Those are the two that NEVER left. But, if you want the member who's been
on every single Yes album, then Chris Squire is your man.

Oh yeah, and for those of you who haven't bought the new Yes album, Keys To
    Ascension, get it! It smokes!

Here's the tracklisting for those of you wondering.

All tracks were recorded live at San Luis Obispo early this year, unless noted.

    Disc 1
    1. Siberian Khatru (10:16)
    2. The Revealing Science Of God (20:32)
    3. America (10:28)
    4. Onward (5:48)
    5. Awaken (18:33)

    Disc 2
    1. Roundabout (8:30)
    2. Starship Trooper (13:05)
    3. Be The One {new studio track} (9:50)
    4. That That Is {new studio track} (19:14)

Well, I just HAD to plug it. :)

New Haven rocked nadz. Or nocked radz, or whatever the fashionable
term is. The new tunes are really slick, the new toys are super trick
and if you miss the next two shows, you're a big d--ummy. :) The
highlight: that wacky video Toad's showed between R&M Project and DT.
Everything from some insane pole vaulting/lake jumping sport to slow
motion shots of flying hummingbirds and spinning fan blades. I give it
a thumbs up. It was also cool to meet new jammers, as always. :)
Attention Boston area jammers: If you are going to the Providence show
on Dec. 12th and either have room in your car, need a ride, are
interested in meeting somewhere beforehand, or have a pulse, please
email me. (I think that covers everyone... :)
I put two new sound samples up on my music page, if anyone is
interested in checking them out. (the new ones are the last two,
namely new3.wav and 5fun.wav) Go to http://acs.bu.edu:8001/~bwherry/ if
    you dare! :)

Folks, we might need some help with aspects of our complicated trip to see DT at Birch Hell. I'll post a summary of the plans and what we need. :)

    1. Mark "BigSwifty" Peters leaves from Birmingham AL (following a stte championship high-school football game; he's a band instructor) c. 10pm Thursday, headed for Atlanta. 2. Wes "Beavis" Foll leaves his place and arrives at my apt. sometime before midnight Thursday. We await Mark, and his nice comfy minivan. :) 3. Mark arrives; we get on the road by 2am Friday morning. 4. Travel all day Friday, hopefully arriving up in the NJ/PA area by nightfall. If time allows, get a list of cheap motels all along the freeway and get a room overnight. If not, we pull an all-nighter on the road. 5. Saturday morning, go to Philadelphia airport and pick up Elliott Kim's friend Jennifer from Fla. and a fellow DT-lover (USAir Flt 326 arriving 12:27pm from W Palm Beach). 6. Leave the Philly area and head up for the pre-show gathering at TGIF c. 6:30, now with 5 in the van. 7. Gathering. Show. Meet folks. Fun. :) 8. Now things get a little more complicated. Jennifer and friend can't ride back with us because we're not going as far as Florida, and since Mark has to be back by Monday afternoon, we're gonna have to hit the road immediately. 9. WE retrace our steps back down to Atlanta and then Alabama, but....

    10. Jennifer and friend will need a ride to an airport in the area and preferably a place to crash overnight somewhere. They have not yet booked their return airfare because they're not sure which airport and which day to get them for: 11. Enter Ytsejammers. :)

IF YOU CAN HELP OUT HERE, please either send me email or call Jennifer at 561-793-5479. She'll probably need to get the plane tix this weekend or by Monday. Any help from locals would be appreciated! :)

Hey jammers: I had to follow the pack and post aboout Friday's show at Toad's Place. Oh my God! Oh my God! Did I say that already? I hear a lot of prog bands and I think they're incredible but when I see DT live it reaffirms the fact that they and us, have along way to go. I mean, how doe James do those amazing things with his voice. My voice teacher likes James' voice and he says he uses excellent technique and we'll get into some of the things he is doing soon. I can't wait damnnit! It was great to meet some jammers that night. The backsatage ytseslip the band gave us was a bit of a bummer but the immensely amazing performance made up for all of that. I got James to sign my arm under my tattoo of the burning heart and I'm getting his sig tattoooed on Monday. I must be insane! Well, I don't post often so I'll be lurking if you need me :) Yours in music, Denis "voxman"

fave song of under a minute in length? tie between "five percent of nothing" (that weird on one Yes' fragile disk, i think that's what it's name is) and MY DOG by saigon kick.....

    > On Sat, 7 Dec 1996 ytsejam@ax.com wrote: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!......What's up with these blank jams?

my fave misheard lyric of this year......first time i listened to Tiles, I was doing something else, and lisnin with half an ear......I heard the singer say "Miranda fills my words and thoughts", so, I'm thinking it's a love song, cool.......

about three weeks later (and i listened to it very often during that time period) I go to check another lyric in the liner notes, and i find out the the line above is 'sposed to "MORE ANGER fills...." Makes a slight difference in meaning, don't it? :) sorta like singing "Soup and salad bar" instead of "suicide blonde" in a certain INXS song.....

Anyway, my point, if you're still reading, is that last I knew, the Band tiles was still selling their first (full length) album ON CASSETTE for $5 (including postage!), and I wholly recommend you get this product....it's got a touch of rush, the vocalist sounds sorta like Dennis De Young (and i mean that in a good way), and maybe someone who already has this can fill in more details

    Hola, Kids.

Last night was truly an experience not soon forgottten. For those of you (like myself) who missed what echolyn was, don't worry. I've seen a band that's (gasp) better than echolyn...and their name is Finneus Gauge.

As we all know, Finneus Gauge is led by Chris Buzby, but there's more to the group than his keyboards. Scott McGill (guitars), Chris Eike (bass) and John Buzby (drums, and yes, he's chris's brother) team up with Chris to form an awsome quintet of musicians. Add Laura Martin on vocals, and the band just turns into a whole new groove altogether.

After hanging out with the band for most of the evening (and getting to know them) i have to say that they're not only great musicians, but great people. Each of the members of Finneus Gauge were beyond nice to all the fans that came out to see the band (most of them not knowing what to expect) and they were not let down.

During the 50 minute set, each member of Finneus looked like they were having the time of their life on stage..and musically it showed. As Chris told me later, "it's about the music. if you're not having fun with it, it's time to sto." It was more than obvious that Chris, Scott, Chris, John & Laura were loving it.

    I sure did.

If you want information on Finneus Gauge, either e-mail myself or the Chad, Finneus's Public Relations Manager at finneus-gauge@juno.com and we'll set you up.
