I would also like to ask about the show start time (that's in addition to
someone else asking the same question). I remember reading something about
the start time of the Birch Hill show being pushed ahead due to the rush
concert that night. Is this still true? If so, what is the new start time??
Also---no one has mentioned anything about how the opening band was in the
shows that took place already. Last time I heard it was Pleasure Crush. Is
that still the case?, and how were they? E-mail me privately please!!!

I talked to all of the guys except Myung after Wednesday's show, and they
all concurred that the setlist would not change for these five shows. I
asked if we might hear TTT or UaGM or 6:00, and they said no. JP said
something to the effect of "We're playing around so much with the
arrangements, we're going to keep it the same. We're having a lot of fun
    with it"
Wasn't the Mirror/Lie supposed to be one long 10 minute song, and because
they released Lie as a single, they had to split it up on the album?
That's what I think I remember hearing about.

I'm one of those types where the quality of the vocalist will not ALONE
win me over to a band or group.....if that were the case, I'd be listening
to Boyz ii Men (say what you want, but those guys can SING).....vocalist
can however, totally detract from a band, and turn me from that band
pretty much forever.....every once in a while, i see the praises of voivod

I'm not gonna like or dislike a band only on the quality of its lyrics,
but i may not like them for their delivery of the same
i don't usually listen for lyrics the first few times i hear
songs.....(prolly why i have a hard time picking up on lyrics)......I'm
usally looking for how the vocalist sounds as a part of the music, and for
how the lyrical delivery fits into the musical scheme
(i.e. love the job done by chuck D on OAMOT, and by Bruce Dickinson on
Infinite dreams......and even the job snoop doggy dogg does with
syncopated delivery on some of his stuff.......)

Just a quick question to the Jammers that have seen the recent shows...
Can you give me the run down on Derek, as he compares to KM? The only
thing that I have to go on is ACoS, because I've never seen DT live. How
does he sound playing DT's old tracks? Also, how is DT's sound different
(especially in the new tracks)? It seems to me that everyone here has
been quick to dismiss KM; well, at least it seems that he's way in the
back of our Ytse-memories. I probably won't miss his playing nearly as
much as his songwriting. And doesn't anybody else think that it totally
sucks that we'll probably never get to see S-DV live? That is all...

The voice is absolutely an instrument. Too many singers, though, use it as
an excuse to make some obnoxious noises at bad times (my old band did ONE

IMO! (i had to say this first) Derek is AWESOME.. i have several boots
and a live video (py perview) of Awake shows ..and Derek is "most
impresive" .. at least for me ..id go as far as saying he is as good as
Kevin if not better.. i dont know if it has something to do with derek
.but if you listen to the bands "jams" during concerts they sound a lot
more mature than they sound on Live in tokyo or other I&W boots..i like
his style a lot..and his playing is just amazing.. but remember everyone
has their diffrent opinions and tastes..

DEATH... and they can both be called about his "late father".. hehe ..at
first i thought you meant that another day was about his dead father
too.. well..it is ..but he was alive..oh damn..i guess you understand

Actually, some months ago, someone posted this list from the prog newsgroup, and the Moodies had several albums listed in the readers' top 100. So, yes, you're not alone. :)

Personally, I am very partial to "Nights in White Satin," which has led me to start collecting their albums.

Both "Nights" and "Tuesday Afternoon" come off the same album, "Days of Future Passed," which is essentially a concept album. Also, the beginning and end have similarities musically to tie everything together. There's a symphonic nature to the albums, which is why one of their tours involved playing in city to city with the local orchestras.

    In #2081:

    >>What is 'The Wall' by Pink Floyd actually about? > >"Pink" is depressed because he screwed his life over, and feels >that the world is passing judgement on him for not hiding his >feelings. Pisser, eh?

I'll take it a step further than that... Several years ago, I heard a special program that played clips from all of the Floyd albums and interviews with just about everyone. The catalyst for "The Wall" was the process of trying to cope with a sudden increase in popularity with DSotM. Prior to that album, the shows were more sparsely attended, and the band preferred to do long "interlude" pieces. With the release of DSotM and it's astronomical sales, the shows were suddenly swamped, especially with people yelling, "Play 'Money'!" Well, one day, some fan got too excited and started to climb up on the stage. Roger Waters said, without thinking, he simply spit on the guy. Later on, when he'd had a chance to think about it, he'd realized he was creating this wall between himself and the audience. So, "The Wall" is about the walls humans put up around themselves, not just this fictional Pink character.

Mirror was originally a 10-minute song? I've never heard that. The version of Mirror's growth that I've always seen says that Mirror started out as "Puppies on Acid," and then they extended it a little (well, OK, a LOT), and then tacked on "Lie" to the end of it. Now I'm not sure...which version is right? > > ------------------------------ > From: Henrik Gustafsson <henrik@thn.htu.se> > just recently, or in the near future. But could you give us just some sort > of more detailed information about the new songs, than: "it was cool " , > "Too awesome". Perhaps compare them to other DT-songs or relate to other > groups, if it is possible. Well, that would be really nice, and I for one would definitely appreciate it. I'm not sure if people are gonna do much of that, though, considering how most of the people who post about the show seem to remember it best when they post right after they get home. 'Course by then, it's 5:00 a.m. or time for them to get to work or something (how come nobody gets home at a decent time after these things?:)), the poster is half-asleep, and I'm not sure they're really in the mood to start drawing comparisons to DT's other albums or other musicians. Could happen, though:).

This also reminds me of something else I've been meaning to post for some time: it concerns album reviews. I don't buy a whole lot of CDs (why? 'cuz I'm a penny-pinching bastard, that's why.) but I've noticed that other people on this list do and they often post reviews on what they bought. I have no problem with that; in fact, that's one of the things I really like about this list. There's no way in hell I could access to this kind of info about bands that I ACTUALLY MIGHT LIKE outside of this list. Absolutely none (and I know there's other subscribers who share my opinion). Here's the deal, though. I'm a wanna-be drummer (been dreamin' about buying my own set for about 3 years now), so my main interest in the music is really the drumming. But I've noticed that a lot of reviews come from either guitar-players or people who are just real into guitar-playing. Either way, a lot of these reviews talk about the vocals, then guitar-work, and that's it. What I'm getting at is, the next time you post a review to the Jam, PLEASE (pretty please) say SOMETHING about the other instruments on the album you're reviewing. Even if you don't know much about 'em, just something like "drumming was OK; the keyboardist, though, really smokes IMO, you guys might want to check him out, I really like his solos" is something along the lines of what I have in mind. It doesn't have to be detailed or anything, just as long as the non-guitar-playing folks (like me) can get some clue as to how their respective instruments sound. This does NOT mean that I'll flame the next guy who ignores this request; just that any effort will be much appreciated. As I said, this list is my best source of what's good out there, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way.
