Hey, Kids. Thought you might wanna see this,

    m.

    Hi all,

This is our last final push to get people to come to our debut
performance at the Middle East in Philly on Saturday. From the sounds
of it, it seems like it will be a fairly large crowd. We'd love to see
as many of you as possible. The band is excited, eager, and chomping at
the bit to play! We realize that this is our chance to share with all of
you what we've been doing with our lives and our music for the past six
    months.

If you have any questions, please call the Middle East at (215) 922-1003
    or Chad (610) 797-8010.

Thanks for your continued interest and support!

    HI all.

Could someone tell me the best place to order the CD "Behind"
    by Superior?

By "best place" I mean cheap and quick. Like where can I get
it for $15 or less in the US in a couple of days?

Thanks for the info! See you all in (Birch) Hell!

Oh man, life is so good right now. After coming back from a wonderful couple of days in Miss. (checking out a grad. school and jamming with some rad guys), I find out that, in addition to seeing Steve Vai on Sunday, I Mother Earth is in town (St. Louis) this coming Wednesday. Then what do I find out? That Saviour Machine is supposed to release their next album, and their demo. Life is good :). Now I just have to finish redaing all the jams in my mailbox :).

    Awww, shit....

Could you imagine how crushed I'de be if John Myung or KJ LaBrie spit on me? I'd probably be forced to commit suicide in anguish! :(

Either that or I'd have to brag about it. :)

Heheh. I never knew that though. That kinda ties in with the one I heard about Roger Watters' personal despisal of playing large arenas or something. I think that was just "In the Flesh" though. Don't think it applies to the whole album, which is still one of my favorites of all time. Concept albums rule!

I used to be that way, and can never see how I'd ever lived it. The whole song always revolved around the guitar and vocals to me at one point. Somewhere along the way I changed. Now I listen to the music as a whole, but in truth, I always end up pin-pointing the drums more often than anything else (The only instrument I can't play from most bands). It's gotten to the point where I can't listen to anything with a weak drummer anymore unless the rest of the musicianship is stunning. It's nice to listen this way and perceive the music as a whole. The only problem is that you get really picky and then you start paying more attention to the production quality (which gets really bad). You start picking up poor mixes and stuff. Then you get really picky and only listen to Dream Theater for the rest of your life. :) Not so bad, really.

    SPOILER

    SPOILER

Well, after waiting out in the cold in the streets of connecticut FOREVER again (at least this year wasn't the El N Gee) I finally saw the show. I heard someone explaining to some guy how he had waited 8 hours in the cold last year. I'm with you! No Joke! Anyway, it was pretty silly that the doors were supposed to open at 8, and they didn't till about 9. The opeing act were two ex members of the Dixie Dregs, the keyboard player and drummer. They were fantastic, but I couldn't really enjoy them, considering I was worried that DT would come on too late like last year's CT show, and we would be robbed of an encore again. Did they sell too many tickets for the show, or something? I have never been so uncomfortable at a concert in my life. I was in the back, thinking, oh, no one will bash my face in here. Well, there certainly wasn't any moshing back where I was, but it was so PACKED!! I couldn't even reach my arms up to clap or cheer in any way. I was standing next to this guy who was really nice, and we were both pissed that it seemed that everyone and their mom thought it'd be a good idea to walk in front of us the entire show! Ugh! The show was great, however. I enjoyed The Mirror more than I ever have before; and it really isn't my type of song. I just thought Mirror/Lie was great! I thought the new songs were better as it got later. Take Away My Pain was the clear best, I thought. Burn My Soul (is that the right title?) was way too heavy I thought, but that's the type of song I think I have to hear on the cd before I can really appreciat it. Actually, I can say that about most of the new stuff. Lines in the Sand seemed so long....it was great though. When they started Another Hand, I felt like I was one of about ten people who knew what the hell it was. The crowd was really dead, or drunk or something at times. I had more fun towards the end of the show, when I had more room to breathe. Some guy in the back kept shouting "Maaa rrrilll iiiioooo nnnnnnnnnn!" throughout the whole show. Yeah, they're good, too, but it was a DT show. That made me laugh. Well, I guess I sound pretty negative, but it was a good time, and I've never heard a band perform a song before it made an album, so that's really cool. Hearing the Killing Hand was awesome, even though Mike had to sing the very beginning, cuz James was "tied up downstairs." Having Mike and John sing back up was great. Ytse Jam was awesome! ryan

    >Just a quick question to the Jammers that have seen the recent shows... >Can you give me the run down on Derek, as he compares to KM? The only >thing that I have to go on is ACoS, because I've never seen DT live. How >does he sound playing DT's old tracks? Also, how is DT's sound different >(especially in the new tracks)? It seems to me that everyone here has >been quick to dismiss KM; well, at least it seems that he's way in the >back of our Ytse-memories. I probably won't miss his playing nearly as >much as his songwriting. And doesn't anybody else think that it totally >sucks that we'll probably never get to see S-DV live? That is all...

(Ah, at last, somebody pushes my big DT peeve-button <g>)

I saw the Pughkeepsie show Wednesday night and I was somewhat disappointed in what Derek was doing with the old songs. He's a great player and writer in his own right, but I am of the opinion that he butchered some of Kevin's better lines. Also realize I really liked Kevin and was very much disappointed when he left DT, but I think this has more to do with musical taste more than it does my favorite keyboardist...

It seemed at Poughkeepsie like Derek couldn't stop playing these 32nd-note arpeggios everywhere. I mean, if a note stood still for, oh, a whole beat, he'd squeeze sixty-some-odd notes in that space. Just an arpeggio. At an otherwise flawless show, it was quite annoying. When Kevin rested on a note, it was because he was trying to form a melody that worked with the song. There were points at Poughkeepsie where the entire feel of a section was ruined because Derek was supposed to be playing one of Kevin's brilliantly written melodic leads (no matter how many or how few notes), and he was doing an arpeggio as fast as he could. Augh. The new stuff sounded good, and ACoS sounded like he was happy with what he came up with in the first place.

I know if I don't disclaim somebody's going to say, "Derek's *not* Kevin. He's going to interpret the song in his own way." Yeah, and all of you were trying to do a *variation* on a theme of Stairway to Heaven the first time you picked up a guitar. Seriously, this is music that has to be kept in a certain amount of structure. It's just so complicated that we can't have somebody doing something *completely* different than was originally intended. Those of you who've seen shows so far know that they can do a lot of strange and different stuff without putting cracks in that foundation. I just think Derek should can some of the cheeseball riffs he's throwing into Kevin's old parts. I mean, the guy made a bad decision leaving DT, IMO (maybe not, if there's anything to be said about following your heart), but that certainly doesn't take away from his ability to write incredible stuff. And the lines on IaW (and especially on Dream and Day) are pure genius. If Kevin's dead as far as the band is concerned, at least let his contributions to the music live on. There are still hardcore Moore fans out here.

    Forgot to say something :-)...

I should mention that this peeve I have with Sherinian is due to this show only. Because it was the first show they've done in a year, I'm worried it's going to become a permanent thing. Yes, I have the "Mind Control" boot, and that thing he does after LSOAD and before The Mirror is fantastic. And yes, back then he was doing Moore's lines pretty much note-for-note. But apparently that was because he had no time to come up with his own parts. That's evident by what he did Wed. night. If the new parts to the old songs are supposed to be an improvement, someone needs to have a talk with the guy... :-)

    Hi,

Does anyone know where I can get a vhs copy of the Ronnie Scott's Uncovered gig? Now that we'll have a soundboard of the whole show (between ACoS & Tapestry) It would be cool to have video companion. Please email me if you have it. I have a decent collection of DT audio & video tapes and could work out something.

Is Voices still around? I was getting digests on a regular basis and they all of a sudden stopped.

BACKSTABBERS: There is a member of the Jam who has been talking shit about me behind my back and I don't appreciate it AT ALL! Now, I realize there are a few people here that I've had public spats with, but I've always been up front about my feelings. This person seems to think he/she can say whatever and it won't get back to me because I'm not on the jam at this time. Well guess what: I DO HEAR ABOUT IT! I'm sending a public notice to this person to either back off or things are gonna get ugly!

I've said my peace; let's hope it ends here.
