I always new Mondays were bad, but I've started noticing that each
successive Monday is much worse than its predecessor.

I should have spent my Christmas Bonus buying Christmas presents, but
instead I bought myself a load of CDs. The pick of the mix is "Eternal"
by Anathema. Please buy it soon.

My brother and sister will just have to be happy with an apple and a
    carrot each again.

The Fan Club Surprise - well, I'm *still* waiting for my starter pack (or
whatever it's called). My cheque was cashed over 30 days ago. At this
rate I should be getting the Surprise round about Christmas 1999.

Hello to that new UK jammer. I'm too lazy to scroll back through all those
jams to find your name :-)

I have a CD ROM of the Birch Hill show (14/12/96). Email me if you're
    interested.

Ok folks, a word from me.
I'd like to know (probably not alone) how old you guys are.
Another thing is that I would really like to know is, how much does a
Ytse shirt cost. Would really really appreciate if anyone could answer.
As for Derek and Kevin... He's now the keyboard player and needs
to find himself and how to fit his own ideas in the DT music. Kev was
    briililant though.
If there's anybody who plays bass and is going on these plays,
I'd like an opininion about Myung's playing although his skill and
everything is just mad(did I use the right word?), or more polite he is
my favorite bass player for about 3 years now.
And also if anybody has mone bass transcriptions, can be in
    either tab or note style.
Anyway, See you jammers, enjoy the shows, which I can't since I'm
    from Europe.

I hope DT will tour in Europe near or in Austria... Pls pls do!!!
    CA jammers!

Hey, I just managed to get a little caught up with the Jams. (seems like I'm
    FOREVER getting behind in them).

Someone asked what AIC song was played before they came out on stage. I would
think that it was Rooster, which if off of their AIC's Dirt album. It came out
around the time that I&W came out...

As for the more recent intro, I haven't been to the "fix" shows yet but the one
they have used in the recent past was the same intro that was used in Resevoir
Dogs. It has Steven Wright as a DJ into'ing the 70's song, "Little Green Bag".

Wow, what a busy week this week! I'm on vacation but I'm getting a new engine
and transmission installed in the 2+2 (for those of you who remember the car at
YCIII, Pat, Irene, Weiland, Pellaz, Wisha...). Look out, the roads won't be
safe. :P DT on Saturday, Rush on Sunday. I guess I'll be deaf about time I get
    back to work on Monday!

Pellaz and Jennifer, sorry that I can't help out with the driving duties. As is,
I'll have a full carload, if I get my car back in time. If I don't, then my
friend Darren will have to drive.

    Here's the situation:

I'm planning on re-stringing one of my guitars to sound like a 7-string by
tuning it B-E-A-D-G-B. I'm a rhythm player who never plays solos, so the
high E is of little use to me, and I really want to experiment with some
lower, darker-sounding stuff a la The Mirror/Lie, etc. I'm assuming
I'll need to fatten up my string gauges a little to maintain the
proper tension... what gauges do you recommend, particularly for the
low B? Thanks for your help,

    Jeff

Hi, I'm not too sure about this Video, but the song is about a very famouos
anti-war novel, written by Dalton Trumbo. I think it is: "Johnny got his
gun" in English. This book is superb, and is about a character waking up in
a hospital, not knowing where he is. After some time he realizes that he can
no longer hear anything, nor speak, nor nothing. He can't get any
expressions from the outside world and is in a state of living dead,
reaching for death. Quite good expressed in Hetfield's singing!
I guess I sholdn't tell you the end of the story, so the rest of this
    message is a *Spoiler*.
But anyway, he still has sensation in a few vertebra in his back and can
tell the difference from his nurses, or other people coming to examine him.
He starts imagining about their looks and feelings. Later, he starts trying
sending messages by moving his neck to the bed, making some tiny noices, for
others to observe. They don't notice at first, and can't comprehend,
secondly. But someone then translates them to the morse-language, and he can
slowly return to the real world.
I read this book some five years ago, in just a couple of days, and I still
have most of it in clear memory. So this is my gift to all of you for
Cristmas. Go read it! It's a bestseller.

Oops. :) I think I may have caused that blank jam yesterday because this
post was too long. And, since I didn't see it in the latest jam, I'll
    repost it in two parts.

Man, what a fucking trip. I just got back home about a half an hour ago
from Friday's show. Why, you ask? Well, it's a long story.

We (Richie and I) left Burlington, VT around 3:00 pm on Friday. We got
gas, got Richie's gf, and were on the road. Now, the first stop was in
Monpelier, VT, so that Richie could get a new registration for his
truck. (That was based upon the advise of the NYS Police.) So, we drove
around Montpelier for about 20 minutes trying to find the DMV. We
finally did, Richie got his plates, and we were on the road again by
    around 4:30.

Interstate 91 in southern Vermont was a fucking mess. VT does not know
how to plow their roads. As soon as we crossed the border into MA
(literally, like 5 feet after the border) the roads were once again
drivable. Phew. So, we got to New Haven, met up with Richie's sister at
Yale, where we would be staying that night. Finally got to the club
about 30 minutes before Rod and Jordan took the stage.

Richie and I got our backstage passes (w00t!) and enjoyed both
performances. (You've already seen the reviews. Mike *does* have a good
singing voice, btw. :) Met up with Skadz, Mike B, Wacky, Jeremy H,
Wisha, Adam, and a few other people that I can't remember right now.
(It's been a long weekend.) So, after the show, we were herded upstairs
to the skybox to wait for the band. After about a 20 minute wait,
someone noticed that Mike was downstairs with his wife, talking to
someone. So, we all went downstairs to talk to him. Mike's a truly
great guy. I could tell that he really wanted to get home, but he stayed
and talked to us anyway. (BTW, Mike is going to get in touch with me so
that we can make sure that the FAQ is 100% accurate. It'll be even
    better than it is now!)

At this point it was 2:30, and it didn't appear that we were going to
meet anyone else from the band, so we left. It was only a couple of
blocks to Lauri's dorm, and we settled in. I actually managed to read a
little e-mail and do a little IRC on her POS Powerbook before turning in
    at around 4:00 am.

We woke up Saturday to realize that it was already 2:00 in the afternoon,
so we decided to get going. We had to walk about 15 minutes in the rain
to get to where we parked the car, because you can't ride the Yale
Shuttle Bus unless you have a Yale ID. (They were actually going to try
to pass me off as a high school senior visiting the school! The only 24
year old goatee-wearing high school senior there is, I'd bet.) We got to
the car, got gas, and were finally on the road by 3:30.

Here comes the fun part. We got into Vermont by sometime around 7:00 pm
or so. The snow was coming down HARD. After sliding around on the
interstate a bit, we decided it would be best to get off and find
someplace to stay. Turns out we got off the highway in a little hamlet
called Bellows Falls. As it turns out, a friend of mine here at UVM is
from Bellows Falls, so I thought maybe we could stay at her parents'
place Saturday night. We pulled into a gas station, and I went to the
pay phone. I called Sherri, my friend up here, and she said she would
try to get in touch with her father. About 5 minutes after I hung up,
the power went out in this gas station/deli thingie, and the phone with
it. So, there we were, hanging out in the middle of nowhere, in a total
blackout, in a snowstorm, on a Saturday night, with no snow tires, no
four wheel drive, with a couple of strangers, and not knowing a soul for
    miles.

The good people at this gas station offered to give us a ride to the
local motel. Of course, no one had enough room for the three of us, so
Richie and Jill left there at about 8:30 in one car, and I was going to
get a ride with the next people leaving. The next people didn't leave
till 9:00. I can just imagine what Richie and Jill were thinking.

Finally, I climbed into a stranger's Jeep, and off we went. "BF is just
up the road," said the driver. I wasn't sure if he meant Bellows Falls,
or Butt Fuck. "Good ol' Fellow's Balls," he said, as we pulled into
town. Street lights! We're in civilization again! Then, we got to the
motel, and the lights were all out. Richie registered a room by
    candlelight.

Finally, a little while later, power was restored, and we were able to
make a couple of phone calls, and to assure our friends that we were
alive and fairly dry. Of course, the power went out again, so that we
could not receive any more phone calls, or watch the end of Saturday
Night Live. (And No Doubt was on, too!) With no candles, and no access
to the rest of the world, we decided to call it a night.

I woke up at around 8:30 this morning (it feels like a week ago already),
took a shower, and we got breakfast. Long live the words "Free
Continental Breakfast"! All day Saturday, all I had was two Twinkies, a
Hostess Apple Pie, and a bottle of Mountain Dew. (It was the Dew that
kept me alive, I swear!) Oh, yeah, and a lot of cigarettes. So, now
we're clean and fed, but we're still stranded in the middle of fucking
nowhere. We call 1-800 ICY ROAD (no shit). The message basically says,
"It may look like a picture postcard out there, but you're out of your
fucking mind if you get in a car today. Good morning, and welcome to
1-800 Icy Road." Everyone was predicting a foot of snow or more today.
And the one place in town that sells snow tires is closed on Sunday. I
realized, though, that I had been outside in only a t-shirt, and I wasn't
cold. And it wasn't snowing. And the road outside was clear! We
decided to make a break for it.

We called back Mr. Lafayette, the nice man that drove Richie and Jill to
the motel while I waited at the gas station for what seemed like an
eternity last night. He came by, and the four of us took a nice, cozy
ride back to the gas station. Well, the truck was still there, even
though it was covered in about 5 inches of snow. "Let's do it," we
agreed. And off we went. After finally finding the entrance back onto
the interstate, we drove another two hours in some serious ass-kickin'
wind conditions. But we made it back, finally. And none worse for the
wear. Now, I'm going to find some real food to chase down this morning's
honey bun, and watch some football in my own home. Thank Ged for small
    favors.

The 48-hour DT road trip. Next time, they better perform in Vermont, cause
I am *not* making this trip again.

While attempting to catch up on my backlog (huh huh, "log") of jams
this morning, I came across a post inquiring as to the stylistic
tendencies of Tourniquet, in particular, the albums Psycho Surgery
and Pathogenic... . I'd say Pathogenic is a bit more like Believer,
but is very different in that it doesn't have the symphonic
tendencies that Believer dusplays on "Dimensions." I highly
recommend any of their stuff, but would probably start out with
Psycho... and move on to Pathogenic from there. The new album sounds
like it might be some killer stuff, from what I've heard.
Vai last night was simply incredible. Talk about a bassist that can
lay down a killer groove, and his guitarist/keyboardist was
phenominal. And to think that I almost didn't go because I felt like
crap after work that day (I figured I already paid for the ticket,
though, and didn't want to waste it). I think the highlight for me
was when they sort of recreated the scene from "Crossroads." The
opening band, Beer for Dolphins, wasn't bad, either. They had some
pretty jazzy influences here and there, and did some good jams. They
also did some songs about cows (you missed it, Rip). Now, I Mother
Earth Wednesday. Wow, life is good.
By the way, I always thought "The Wall" was at least partly based on
the breakdown of former Floyd member Syd Barret (sp?).
Sorry if I rehashed anything here, but I still have about 5 or 6 jams
to catch up on. Later all.

your friendly neighborhood Dale R. Newberry

This is to the 16 year old who wants to go to Birch Hill... I've
never been to Birch Hill, but I'd say you have a good shot at getting
in. A friend of mine was buying beer when he was 15. The point is,
nobody really gives a shit in reality, but if you ask them on the phone
of course they'll say no. This 18+ bullshit only works on people who are
too worried about breaking a rule to try and get in. Get a ticket, and
try to get in, and if someone at the door actually gives you shit about
not having an id ( I doubt this will happen) just start arguing with
him and eventually he'll give up and let you in. I have done this so
many times, I am convinced you'll be able to get in. And even if you
don't, at least you tried and you have a funny story to tell your
    friends...

How do those Sega Saturn games work as far as the music goes?
If I were to buy that John Petrucci pinball game, would I be able to
hear the audio tracks in a regular CD player or can you only
listen to them while playing the game?

Anyone know when that is supposed to come out?

    Thanks!

It's getting close to 96's end, so I thought it might be a good idea for us to start making up all those "New Years resolutions" we *know* we're *never* gonna stick to... :>

On my homepage [where else!] I've made a nice little page where you can submit your own resolution(s) [there's a form on the bottom of the page] and read the ones that were entered by others before you...

I'm not looking for anything heavy, or serious... It's just for fun... Basically, I'm looking for weird resolutions, funny remarks... whatever. Just have fun with it :> Just complete the following sentence and enter it on the form on my homepage, along with your name :

    In 1997 I'm going to.....

I'm counting on *you* to make this thing work :>
