Ok the general deal with Birch Hill is that they have a ton of tickets at the
door. Where they came from, I have no idea. So if you are considering going,
you can probably get tickets right up till they go on stage...call the club if
    you have doubts though.
They are now charging $2 for parking and no more valet.
Also, they will not require proof of 18 at the door, just proof of 21. BUT!!
If you are under 21, once you leave the club you can't come back in. They are
trying to cut down on alcoholic teenagers in the parking lot.
The before show get together will be start around 6:30 as I originally said,
everyone has to sit at their own tables ( due to the fact that its a weekend
and they wont reserve a large party) . If you want to reserve one, call about 1
1/2 hours in advance. The number is (908)617-1900

Don't take this advice if you're coming from far away - I
happen to know that they check all
IDs when going in....if you don't have the ID, you aren't getting in,
no matter what. I know that the show was originally all ages, so if
have a ticket that says that, then you could probably put up an
argument...otherwise, you can try, but the outlook is slim.

A little anecdote that relates to this...a friend of mine went to
see a show at the Stone Pony about a year ago with about four people.
The show was 18 and over, and she was 20 at the time. The guys at
the door required two IDs to get in. She had only her drivers'
license, which said she was 20, and they *STILL* told her they
wouldn't let her in. So the five of them wound up not seeing the
            show....bouncers can definitely be pricks......

            Good luck though...

                                                    - Al

Then I went out and bought a set of .10 gauge strings and a .54 string. The .54 is my low B string. I would recommend a .56 for it because my string is a little loose feeling. Also, you'll probably want to tune the guitar B-E-A-D-F#-B so that you cans still play chords and runs the same as you did before. This retuning is definitely an experience and it's kinda fun, but I still keep one guitar in E or Eb tuning because the B tuning can get old quickly.

    Have fun. Later,

Peace be with you and God bless.

Hello there all...I'm a new Jammer...just signed up yesterday...I've been a DT fan since the release of "Images" and they have become my favorite band. I just wanted to say "hey" to all of you Jammers out there...this seems to be a very dedicated bunch of people... Does anyone know if DT is coming to Florida on a tour soon? I haven't seen them since the Galactic Cowboys tour at Summerfest in WI... Also, is there a way I can order a t-shirt? Thanks and... "let light surround you..."

I have a 7 string, and I blocked off the trem and use a reular set of GHS Nickel Rocker 10's with a double wound 62 guage on the bottom. This keeps it sufficiently tight so I don't have wobbly strings. I don't know how JP set his up with 56 guage strings, but I didn't dog that at all. Maybe I'm just too used to shredding on acoustic.

Someone tell me what the surprise thing was please. I've been too lazy to mail my check, and I think I'm too late now, so if anyone would at least be willing to tell me what I'm missing, via e mail, it would be helpful.

Also, I've updated my page (No new graphics yet.... just new text) particularly the Prog List and my new guitar lessons page. Right now the only lesson I have is a really short exercise for developing some left hand coordination, and it's made for people just starting out that want to move in the right direction towards some shred and speed playing. There are going to be lessons for intermediate and advanced players as well, but not until I have time to design them. It WILL be cool in the near future, but for now it's pretty simple and basic. http://www.prognosis.com if you want to check it out.

All the comments were about *Flight of the Wounded Bumble Bee* and Nuno's shredding, which brings me to my next DT question:

I hope this question does not seem too ignorant. Is the shredding section at the very beginning of "A Crack in the Mirror" on Antiquities done on guitar or keyboard. I tend to think of it as guitar, but it seems almost too clean to be guitar (exceptionally clean pickups?), yet it seems to be faster than the response time of (most?) keyboards would allow (key press sensitivity)?

    >>>>...... but I was >wondering if anyone out there thought that The Moody Blues were progressive...

MB, along w/ The Nice (Keith Emerson), Yes, PF, KC, ELP were among the archetypal bands that helped define progressive, esp. their seven albums from *Days of Future Past* to *Seventh Sojurn*. Later reincarnations included the prog. keyboardist Patrick Moraz (also one time member of Yes (ca. *Relayer*) and the band Refugee (other 2 members were originally from The Nice). Sadly, the original members of MB are almost in the geriatric generation, and their recent concerts (i.e. *Live at Red Rocks*) lack the spunk of the band in the earlier days.

    hi there,

I just received a new CD called "Dragon attack - a tribute to queen" (NOT the f*cking Dancefloor-Queen thing!) and highly recommend it to anybody on the list. Three good reasons: -track 2: Sheer heart attack vocals:James LaBrie, guitar: Marty Friedman Drums: Carmine Appice -track 3: Another one bites the dust vocals: Adam, guitar: John Petrucci -track10: One vision vocals: James LaBrie, additional engineering: Mike Portnoy

Yessss! This album rocks (rokz nadz?)... Also outstanding: Lemmy doing "Tie your mother down".

The same one that has filled my nightmares of that gruesome scene at Ytsecon II when Mike Bahr began flicking his special razor-edged Magic cards around the room, cackling gleefully and hopping around on the tables like a possessed ninja...

It might also be that the DT fan population isnt as dense in the Chicago area as in other parts of the world. Could be attributed to the lack of radio play. The only song i've heard on the radio was PMU and that was way back when IaW was just released. And even then it took them about 3 or 4 plays before they actually annouced who it was. later.

To the guy that wanted to know if he could get in at BH being 16. From what I remember (and my memory might be foggy), they were carding everybody at the door. This was to determine if you were old enough to drink or not. If you are, you'll get this nice hospital-style wristband and the "go" from the bartender. Fact is, they were carding everybody. :( You could give it a shot but be prepared to go back home if the palookas at the door say "Nyet."

    Wondering about 7-string string-ups:

I personally use a D string from a bass guitar for the low B and the low E string from a guitar for what used to be the A string. I tune the "A" string down to F# though. Thus my guitar looks like:

    B F# D G B E

The F#/D jump can be a bit awkward when playing normal stuff, bt it forces you to come up with new ideas. By the way, this was the tuning recommended in the transcription to CiaW a couple of light years ago. Happy death grunging.

I HAVE BEEN TO THE BIRCH HILL!!!!! They check the IDs of every single person that walks through that door, and if your ID doesn't meet their approval, you aren't getting in. I watched them refuse to let in a guy right in front of me because they didn't like his ID. If you have a good fake, your chances are improved, but don't expect to get in without an ID. They don't care if you waited in line for two hours out in the cold. YOU WILL NOT GET IN THE BIRCH HILL WITHOUT AN ID!!!!
