up to Los Angeles to see them....although i know it would be worth it....and
also are there any fellow jammers from San Diego??? if so you can mail me at

Someone mentioned this in the last jam but I wanted to get it
    cleared up.

What is the Birch Hills rules for leaving and re-entering the
club? What if I have some cool stuff (big stuff like Images
and Words poster) that I want the band to sign. I'm not gonna
bring it into the show and get it moshed on but I was thinking
that maybe I could run out to my truck and grab it AFTER
the show and bring it back into the club to get the band to sign it?
    WOuld that plan work?

On the poster note : Does anyone have a WDADU poster (or ACOS - did
they even make one?) that they would like to sell? It would look
very nice hanging next to my I&W's and Awake posters. Please
e-mail me and we can work something out.

    Thanks!

hey there jammers, i went a little nutty in the bargain bin at my local used CD store today and picked up some old school metal.. the following CD's were $2.50 a piece: Shotgun Messiah: anyone remember these guys? not bad, not incredible either LA Guns: Cocked & Loaded - sounds like the other LA Guns discs David Lee Roth: A Little Ain't Enough - awesome purchase! Jason Becker tastefully wails on here! Killer Dwarfs: Dirty Weapons - anyone remember this band? a couple of power ballads; the rest is aggressive.

I bought a new CD by Los Straitjackets: Viva! they are an instrumental surf band. the music is not really technically proficient, but the album has a very cool sound to it.. a kind of sonic big band vibe.. it's one of the most refreshing albums i've come across this year.. the only downside is that the CD is just 38 minutes long. if your looking for a fresh instrumental fix, check these guys out...

    >I came across a post inquiring as to the stylistic tendencies >of Tourniquet, in particular, the albums Psycho Surgery and >Pathogenic... . I'd say Pathogenic is a bit more like Believer, >but is very different in that it doesn't have the symphonic >tendencies that Believer dusplays on "Dimensions." I highly >recommend any of their stuff, but would probably start out with >Psycho... and move on to Pathogenic from there. The new album >sounds like it might be some killer stuff, from what I've heard.

Yeah, their 2nd and 3rd albums (Psycho Surgery and P.O.D.) are their most progressive. A lot of classical influences. Like Dale said, it not as much as Believer's classical influences, but with Tourniquet, you can still tell. They're not really and thrash-oriented as Believer (Sanity Obscure and Extraction). They're more of a proggy-speed metal. Vocals soudn a lot like Rage Against the Machinje (at least when Gary sings), and I can't describe an equivalent to how Guy Ritter sounds... Dale, can you???

For Tourniquet, I'd really only "recommend" those two albums mentioned. Their other stuff is good, but not up to snuff, IMO. Their first is great, but the vocals get nerve-racking, and the lyrics seem almost overzealously propagandizing. Psycho and Pathogenic show great instrumentation, time changes, drumming, etc, etc; and the lyrics got A LOT better. Very alegorical (sp?) in nature, relating the medical and spiritual realms in a metaphorical way. Very interesting. Their stuff after Pathogenic is "different." Still good, but not as progressive- and not as powerful, IMO.

Their new stuff in the works sounds cool. They had two new tracks on their greatest hits, and I guess that's the direction of the new LP. It's supposed to be out in the Spring...along with a multitude of other great bands. Ted's been listening to a lot of Carcass, Sepultura, and Dream Theater (he mentoins all those bands in a current interview), so the new album should be back to their earlier stuff. :)

Hey, Dale, did you know that Gary left the band? He's working with Guy Ritter (the ex-vox) in a new band called Echo Hollow.

I was one who lost two jams, 2085 and 2087. I dunno what caused it. I got them, but they both had absolutely no text in them. Ahhh well, no big loss.

To the guy who didn't see any Jammers at New Haven: You just weren't listening, Skadz and D-Man were yelling at each other a mile-a-minute at the front of the stage after the show, AND there were a couple of us wearing ytse-wear out there, too. Ahh well, For those at Providence, don't forget, meet after the show in FRONT OF THE STAGE! That way people get associate names and faces and all the garbage. I met a couple of people I hadn't met before at the show because of the ytse-advertising. See ya at Prov. I'll be the guy who is wearing the OLLLLLLLLD ytsejam T-shirt with the YTSEJAM written really big across the front.

    Hi all!!

Just finished wading through all my mail and thought I'd write about the Toad's show... What a first concert! My god, DT roq!!!! I missed the shows last year and wasn't about to miss this years show. I was stunned. The new stuff was great (Peruvian Skies sounds a bit like "Bleeding Me" by 'tallica i think.. and some other song) and the old stuff was incredible! KILLING HAND! 'nuff said! :) As a few of you found out, I was totally insane with this trip. First I flew to Hartford from Omaha. Took a taxi into the city, waited 2 hours for a bus. Got to New Haven just before five. Grabbed some food and waited 3 and a half hours for the doors to open. (I was one of the first few in, whoo hoo!!) Thank god they finally turned on the heat lamp! After the show soem new friends (see later) drove me back to Hartford and I spent Saturday sleeping :P Sunday i spent 9 hours at the airport waiting for my plane, but they were kind enough to upgrade me to First Class!! :) Many thanks to all those who helped me get there, get back and all those I met. Rob, Don, Steve, Mike, and Damon: Thanks for the friendship, ear plugs, and the way home!! Sorry Saturday was so damn snowy! :( Rachel: great to see you again, surprised to see me that far from home? :) Skadz and the rest of the Ytsejammers: Sorry I didn't have much time to talk! Maybe next show! Lates all,

    Dave

    1. I heard that the show was all ages? Is that true? Not that I'm worried, it's just that I have someone in my "group" that is only 16. If someone could answer this question I would be extremely extatic. 2. I heard a rumor of 2 opening acts? Is that true? I would love to know. Tell me. 3. I prefer spoilers. Does anyone have a setlist for the Poukeepsie show? 4. Is there a pre-show gathering? What time should I be there? 5. Is the show definately sold-out or are there tickets at the door? I have a friend that is very interested in going but can't get a ticket through NEXT. I was wondering if someone could SUPER-Express one to me? If that person can please e mail me @ j-kube@nh.ultranet.com or e mail the person who needs the ticket direct @ doland@rpi.edu !!!!!!!!!!!

See you there man!!!! Jammers: Rick Tony Jeremy John

PS: If you have the ticket I will pay all shipping fees, plus of course price of the ticket. (up to $17.25) I will find some way of sending you the money right away. J

First of all, I HATE ALL OF YOU WHO GET TO SEE DT AND I DON'T!!!!!!! Sorry, just had to vent for a second....I don't really hate you...just envy you all to hell.

It's also good to see some other people that are into Tourniquet. I thought they were about the least known prog metal band in the world. Well...perhaps they are. They're totally killer, though, IMO. For that person who was wondering which album to buy, I'd go with Pathogenic, because that album just soars above Psycho Surgery.

I have a question...did anyone else who has seen Vai on his recent tour find the show tremendously inspirational? I mean...I'm a drummer, and I found this show inspirational for two reasons. 1) Mike Maggini kicks ass. There's no other way to put it. Did he do that four-way independence thing during his solo at the show everyone else was at? When I saw him solo, he did a thing where with his left foot, he was playing two, his right foot playing three, his left hand playing five, and his right hand playing seven, all with matching 1's. Totally amazing. 2) Steve is so good at guitar, it makes me want to practice 12 hours a day every day at drums to get to that level. Too bad I'm so busy.... On a similar note, did anyone get Mike Keneally's solo album? If not, you should have. I haven't seen it in any record stores. But, if anyone's interested in picking it up, hit this address: http://www.moosenet.com/keneally

Now...what's the deal with this Petrucci video game? Does this mean, being the die-hard fan that I am, that I now have to go out and buy a Sega Saturn just to own this game and appreciate it for all its worth? <sigh..> Sounds good. I was thinking about getting a new video game system anyways.

And, since someone asked everyone's ages, I'm 19.
