they played it on the P.A. DT did not cover Rush at all, they just played
Chronicles at the end of disk 2 or something. But at the end of the encore,
DT kicked into Damage INC. and was there another Metalica song in there, too?
pretty cool. MP must've started that.

OK. I bought those ear filters for about 20 bucks in a music store, and
normally they work wonderfully, but they have this hatred for DT concerts. I
was not even close to the stage at all, and my left ear rings like the
Liberty Bell. I had the plugs in. Maybe I should get better plugs? What do
you guys think. They're not the squishy hunting/shooting foam plugs, they are
meant to filter out loud noises, I bought them in a music store. They should
be good and they usually are, except at DT concerts. Hey, guys, turn the
music down just a little, please next year.

Can any of you helpful jammers tell me where I might find the liner notes to Antiquities and/or Dream Out Loud? Also a setlist or info on the Japan ppv vid? Fernando just traded me these and I would like to have any and all info about them that I can.

I also forgot in my post about the Christmas CD to mention that the latest issue of I&W is extremely well done and very informative. I felt that necessary since no one has mentioned it yet due to the excitement about the awesome DT CD. Keep 'em coming!!!

shit. I just realized. I missed all the fun. In my desire to meet the band and throw my radio credentials around, which nobody at the club cared about anyway, I missed meeting ytsejammers and having fun, again. The first year, last year, I could blame my friend for making me miss the get together last year, but this year. Oh well, I could blame Derek, but that's not cool, since he did give me an interview. Oh well. Maybe next year, or will you guys find some way to avoid me again?

I assume it was Mike Portnoy. At least, that's who did it at the Strand. As a matter of fact, the whole scene you just described happended in RI: Mike does the line, James starts laughing, then picks up the line. Must be an insode joke they just can't avoid. :)

I got my messages today and the jams were coming: 2109, 2110, 2111... then it stopped... "Cool, I have a chance to get in 2112". Then I wrote that message, and when I reconnected (like, 2 minutes later) to post it, and after I was connected for 1 minute, I received a announcemente "A messagem from ytsejam@ax.com has just benn delivered from SMTP". Try to imagine what came to my mind, specially because my message was the FIRST int ytsejam 2113...

    > Didn't somebody post here not too long ago that Mapex is made by Tama or vice > versa. I think he's back with Tama again, but what do I know?

Actually, as fara as I know, he's gone back to Tama to play the StarClassic line that they produce. I guess these are far better quality than the RockStar and ArtStar, etc. lines they produce.

Mapex, I believe, is now owned by and manufactured by Washburn. Yes, the guitar company. I'm not sure about this anymore because there is no more Mapex link on the Washburn website. But last I was informed, Tama does not own Mapex.

I guess the reason Mike switched back is because he always loved Tama drums. I guess the reason he signed with Mapex is because they were the only company to endorse him at that time. You can't blame him, though. They're nice drums and you oughtta take an endorsment and run with it. I mean, this is the guy who plays Hot Sticks. :P

Anyway, all of this was information spouted from the mouth of my drummer, a devout Portnoy worshipper. Besides, you asked. :P

Uh, that would be me. Lesson to be learned here kiddies... NEVER mix alcohol and sobriety! What quote is it that comes to mind? Ah yes, "Instant asshole. Just add alcohol". Fred, I take no offense to your comment. Point well taken, dude. Perhaps, on recollection, my Neon story is _very old_. 'Nough said. On with the jam.

P.S. I guessed Saturday at 7 pm) that jam #2112 would be out about 6:15 on Sunday evening. I was wrong! I admit it. Skadz, how could I know that every jammer that didn't go to the BH show would try and get a post onto #2112?

Oh yeah. One more thing before I go. If you want to see or have the picture I took outside the TGIF, e-mail me (not the jam) at gsrockr@en.com. I have to finish out the roll and get it developed. Uh, if you live near Cleveland and have a scanner, lemme know so I don't have to bother Buster again with this.

Thank you, please drive through... G.

this is completely false. if this were true, everyone would play the chapman stick. look at http://clever.net/stick/stickwire/. the stick is the single most phallic instrument in existence, except possibly for those flutes that are actually sculpted to look like penes.

I have been to a great deal of concerts in the past couple months. One of which was Rush. I have to say that in comparison to Rush, Dream Theater didn't have much display wise but they were even better when displaying their talent. The show began with "ACoS" and after the acoustic section @ the beginning of "The Crimson Sunrise" was played off the CD the band continued with the remainder of the song. After that they BURST into Mirror/Lie and ROCKED the house apart (brief spurts of crowd surfing began, the security didn't like this much, in fact later in the show @ the end of one of their songs <can't remember which one, I think it was a new one> one of the crazed crowd surfers was thrown up on stage and security RiPpEd him off the stage. When the song ended KJ said in his Canadian accent "Bye-Bye...Bye-Bye" He later remarked when other crowd surfers were put up on stage, "We've got a fucking football game up here!" It was so funny the way he said it. I guess you had to be there to know exactly what I mean. I have to say the the new material is really HARD edged and perky. The melodic heavy rythems are awesome! I can't wait. "footsteps in the sand" is one of those songs. I can't wait until everything is ironed out and put on the album! It will seriously kick some ass. I was up for some change but at the same time I wanted to hear the old stuff off of Awake. They "fooled" around with "Caught in a web" they really slowed it down. I was looking forward to hearing the beginning of the song the way they usually play it, but I wasn't disappointed with what they did with it. It was one of those wierd things that they did that night. One of the other things they did was kick right into "Pull me under" from one of the new songs. Overall, I have to say that my first Dream Theater concert was un-fucking belivable and if given another opportunity I would definately attend another one of their shows. The only things I wish that they would have done was 1. Been able to do their encore, the Strand cut them short. 2. Have had less opening acts. 3. Less time between set changes. But, I realized that this wasn't really their fault. Oh, well the good definately outdid the bad. If you haven't had the opportunity to see Dream Theater yet you are deprived. Skip work, school or whatever to see them...it is well worth the risk.. Later...J
