Get hold of some Hearos. They're cheaper, and they're so efficient you
could almost hear your brain at work during a Manowar concert (well in
fact, NO, since people who go to Manowar concerts don't have brains :^)
Above all, they have a more homogeneous frequency response than others who
tend to cut out just the lows or highs. I use them in rehearsals and gigs
    alike.
Also check out HEARNET, whose catalog ranges from cheap classic foams to
tailored frequency response and personally anatomically shaped (yes, from
an imprint of your ear provided by your doctor!!) plugs. They're at

    Hi

I have a wish, now that we are closing in for Christmas. Since a lot of us
are going home for the holidays, just to get back on again in January, I
feel that all of us would want to know what's been said upon here. And we're
gonna ask you, before skimming through those fifty digests, because we
    always tend to, don't we?.
So I'm asking any of you to make a digested digest,
or just give me/us the adress to subscribe for VOICES during the holidays.

And to you active Ytse-jammers remind that Christmas may be a bad time for
starting interesting threads since you will get fewer replies and opinions.

Have a happy holiday, wherever you may be

    Hi
(This is not to you Damon in personal, I know you are having a
pretty rough time, right now, ey? And I had to make it in Dig 2112, in some=
     way)
    >yeah, but there is such a thing as rediscovery. Hopefully, one day,=
     somebody
    >will rediscover true musical ability and we can stop this mindless top 40
    >alternative stuff.=20
I've said this before, and I'll say it again. STOP thinking that we
are so special and intellectual, just because we prefer DT to Oasis. It's
called Hybris, and you shouldn't be doing that, it's one of the worst
diseases of them all. If you are talking about something that subjective as
music, there can never be any better nor worse. There is one thing called
well-accepted high-standard culture, like operas, the classic paintors or
authors, but in no sense that is better than anything.=20
And I really doubt all of you are deeply into vanGogh, Dali, Strindberg,
Hemmingway or Nietsche. Guess you all are reading easier litterature,
watching late-shows and soap-operas, liking Beavies and stuff. See! are you
that special in your taste?!? I'm not at all saying this as a flame, since
I'm not the most cultural human beeing, I even prefer comics. But neither do
I flame people for liking boys2Men or Roxette, if they are into deeper art
    in other fields.=20

( and Damon I was in favour of your original post about keyboardist getting
to little appreciation, but I'd rather not put any more cents into that,
    since it went overboard.)

happy Hanecckar ( or what the %#=A4 Mike is saying...)

The next time this list organizes itself to attend a show in mass numbers, those in attendance should group together as a collective unit on the floor of the venue and STICK TOGETHER. Deal with these problems like an army of killa bees on a swarm. Everyone start buzzing really loudly and poking the loud guys in the ribs and stuff. Then whip out the Majesty- brand from the cover of WDADU and go to work. If the neanderthals protest, get yer forty fists together and GET READY TO RUMBAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLE!!!

Or perhaps I'm just venting because I had to miss all the festivities...

Really, though, the only reason I lived through BH'95 was because I was huddled in with about a dozen people who had a reasonable idea of who the others were. None of us were elbowing each other or doing what you say those freaks were doing this time around. Plus I was right next to Al "Skin Torch" Balkiewicz with the quickdraw-cigarette action to burn off those pesky mosquitos. Wait... Maybe I'm just imagining that he was igniting people... Al, am I dreaming things up again???

---- > From: Partha Mukhopadhyay <ahtrap@umich.edu> > Subject: coupla questions > > to bafu: > who's the flamboyant person in Poison, bringing down which talented > musicians??

I was referring to lead vocalist Bret Michaels. I didn't think he was very talented, back when Poison was a relatively new band and had the potential to be taken seriously and hang around for another ten albums or so. I thought his puckery self smashed all hope of Poison ever going the distance based on genuine fan support and general respect from the music world. I know the occasionally-glaring bassist and blurry drummer weren't influencing very much of what the public thought. I really think Michaels brought down an otherwise spectacular set of players - Rikki Rockett and C.C. Deville, both of whom I thought were extremely talented. (They probably still are, I just haven't heard anything from them in a while.)

After seeing them live and hearing solos from both Rockett and Deville, I started to wonder why Poison didn't have more fans who played instruments and looked up them. Finding a guitarist at the time (or today) who thought highly of DeVille was a rarity, the same could be said of drummers and Mr. Rockett. A lot of folks laughed at both them, when the real problem was not that they couldn't play their instruments but that the sparkly Brian-Froud-himself-couldn't-draw-better-elves image was too high and overshadowed much of what they did. In my opinion Bret Michaels had more to do with this than the other three members. (now don't ya'll go thinking the makeup disappeared because DeVille left the band) Poison stripping down and grabbing Richie Kotzen was about as effective in re-vamping their image as when the New Kids On The Block released "Hangin' Tough." I wasn't convinced in either case.

Back to the main post, Kip Winger and Mike Tramp had similar effects on their respective bands. At least that's what I think. Now what do YOU think?

All bootlegs from Italy have lots of mistakes. And a really loud person taping the show.

Here it should be pointed out that Stanley Jordan's two-guitars- simultaneously-all-hammers-no-picking approach is quite a bit more jazzy and melodic than MICHAEL. ANGELO.'s.

Hi guys, this is a message to all progressive-fans living in the Rhein-Main- Area in Germany. On th 4th of Jannuary a Cocert with three underground Band will take place in the Hafenbahn in Offenbach. The Bands are: Annon Vin (released their Debut 8 Month ago, sound sometines like a mixture between Watchtower and Yes), Chased Crime (Progressive Power-Metal) and Tell Tale Heart (which are influenced by Dream Theater, Rush, Queensryche, Fates Warning and Savatage).

Maybe I meet some of you there. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- "Since man's natural instincts lead him to sin, all men are sinners; and -- -- all sinners go to hell. I think that while it wouldn't automatically be in breach of copyright, any court would probably rule that you had chosen that name for the purpose of, or with the effect of misleading the public into thinking they had something by the real DT...

Are musical keyboards better than computer keyboards? Is a computer monitor better than a stage audio monitor?

Do women really like having sex with guitars?

Yes! That's right. We had DT Awake tour Jan.1995. But in the early morning of their day 2 in Osaka,we suffered huge earthquake. So their show was cancelled. Tons of people died for it,so they had 15 sec. of silence at Urawa city (live on aired show).

    Hi all

I'm very, very sober, and I'm very, very bored.

Nothing else to do today (our super-expensive text authoring system has been laid low by a hardware failure) so I thought I'd write a couple of things that the past jams have caused to bubble up through my cess-pit of a brain.

    1. The guitarist/keyboarder thing. You're all wrong. Go and see a band called Sadist and you'll see why. The guy in Sadist plays guitar and keyboards at the *same* time, and does a bloody good job, too.

    2. So guitarists are phallically challenged, and only play live so that women (what about gays?) can wonder at their mighty hard-ons? If that is true, then Freud would have a field day with keyboarders: playing with their organs in front of all those people. And as for putting your organ into a Leslie...

    3. I went to the supermarket on Saturday, and when I paid at the check out, the bill came to exactly...DM 21,09. Ha ha, fooled you all.

    4. Spock's Beard is selling well in this bit of Germany. Three of the guys I usually drink with after work were so impressed by the album, they've gone out and ordered it. As one of them put it "great music, and at long last a singer who doesn't sound like he's got his balls in a vice". Too true. By the way, the person who was shocked because James used the word shit isn't going to like Spock's Beard: they use the ever-so-naughty F word ten times in one song. What the fuck's the world coming to?

    5. Does anybody know if there is a mailing list for Anathema? Let me know by personal e-mail.

    6. Type O Negative and Moonspell tomorrow. I promise my gig report will not include any of the following: - what I ate before the show and where I ate it - the size of my car's fuel tank - how long it took me to get there and how many polar bears I saw en route - the age, height and weight of the people standing nearest to me - a list with the names of all the Ytsejammers I didn't meet.

    7. Today's bit of wisdom comes from that grand old man of British music, Roy Harper - it may be December outside, but it's always August under your arm.

Right, the system still isn't working, so I'm off to get pissed as a ferret. Cheers.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine

Skadz did, he just had his silencer installed, so it only carried about 5 feet or so :)

That was my understanding of what the ":)" was used for.... :) I should have put it in upper case, I guess :\

Well, let's put it this way: You should have gone! That's all that's left in the clue department.

    Re: guitar/keyboards

One group that immediately comes to mind is Genesis. When I saw them live on 'And then there were three' tour (many, many a fortnight ago :), the keyboard was more dominant than the guitar. Notice I didn't say that they got the notoriety they deserve; I just meant that it is possible to put out a decent rock sound and not have the guitar be the central dominating reason.

Jonny's Jazz starter kit for the DT listener :

For something a little more 90's, I would recommend Fourplay. Bob James on keys, Lee Ritenour on guitar, Nathan East on bass and some guy named Harvey Mason on drums :). It ain't hard, it ain't heavy, but these guys can compose! I'd start with their first seff-titled one (From magicisland page: "33 weeks at the No. 1 spot on Billboards contemporary jazz chart. RIAA Certified Gold")

Of course, there's always Return To Forever's 'Romantic Warrior' :)

Jonny's Fusion starter kit for the DT listener:

Dixie Dregs, Steve Morse solo shtuff, Alan Holdswroth, Brand X, etc...

If you can find it, I highly recommend Larry Coryell/Alphonse Mouzon. Can't remember the name of the album, but I imagine there can't be too many :) Two incredible musicians...

    Enough,

    Jon
