    Hi U all,

JennieBear wrote about _Johnny Got His Gun_...
    >I would forewarn people in saying that it is *extremely* depressing.

Yay! Could someone tell me (in private email) where can I get this book.

Vincent LuPone wrote the harshest not-a-flame I've seen in my entire life.
I'm tellin' you Vince, don't start a flamewar with Damon, you have no chance
in hell to come out a winner. None. Vince, you even did this:

    >Why are you "bdeclaring" war? On the same topic, what is "bdeclaring"
    >anyway, hmm?

Now you're not being very mature, are you? I'd say, that circumstances being
what they are, Damon spells AND types better than you do. I swear I'll eat a
hatful of dung (and I'm not usually a coprophage) if Damon isn't going to get
upset because of your "good fun"...and as the famous Ytse-saying goes:
You're being a dick. Besides, I'm just testing how harsh a "not-a-flame" can
go. You see, this isn't a flame either. Just IMO. Get it, you can't hide
behind the almighty "IMO" everytime you start jumping all over people. You
wanna flame me for this? Get in the f**king ring, but take a look in the
mirror first and see the one who started it.

    >Peace be with you and God bless,

    Yeah right, you too.

    Bernd Basmer threatened us:
    >Hmm. Maybe we should do a Tekkno song... then we would be on the radio in
    >Germany too... :)

Bernd!!! Remember the high-voiced mailmen, hmm? You still intending to do
    a techno tune?

    Spiff revealed:

    >The pressie is...
    >
    >The new album!

I wouldn't want it as it is now, unproduced. Or then again, I might. Well,
    I'll just ignore you.

     Hi,
I just got on the list and would appreciate any recommendations of bands in
the same vein as DT. I already listen to FW, Savatage, Queensryche, Rush,
the more known ones. Maybe some lesser known ones, but available on cd. Also
more classical like Yngwie M. and J. Becker.
    Thanks

ps anyone else really into Savatage (Gutter Ballet thru TS Orchestra) email
    me personally.

I was just checking out the web page for Chroma Key...

The album should be completed 12/24/96 and released through Fight Evil
Records (Kevin's independent label) and through the internet.

No word on who is on it (Mark Zonder?)

I urge those who have not heard Chroma Key to give it a try. At least
go to the web page (www.chromakey.com) and check out some wav files.
Don't expect DT, though. It's more keyboard oriented, industrial/pop,
with good lyrics (I really hate trying to describe music with words!)

    Hey folks,

I was thinking the other day about the DT shows I've been to and their
opening bands. I remember the Galactic Cowboys opening for them at
the Rocky Point Pav. several years ago. Then, I saw them at Berklee on
OCT 21, 1994 and I believe IME opened as well as another band. Anyone
recall who that was??? Then I saw them at the Strand during the
Awake tour, I believe and the opening band was giving out cassettes but
I'm not sure I remember who they were either. And then.......the 6 hour
wait, the patience,.........man, DT fans are patient...remember the
El-N-Gee show?? he he he .....The shitty part is I got free tickets for both
shows because I did the artwork and flyers for the club for that show
but the idiot who runs the club freaking made me stand in line even
though I did ALL the stuff for FREE!!!! Anyway, the second show was a
lot smoother. Did anyone tape the first show at the Gee??? I remember
they played ACOS from start to finish at that show but didn't play it at the
second one. If anyone did tape it, I may have some interesting things to
trade for it......Also, a local station videoed PMU on the second night. I'm
trying to get my dirty little hands on that now. If I get it, I'll get it to
someone who can dub and we'll all share in the glory!!!

Ciao for now, and thanks for listening to my rambling thoughts, it's early
    ya' know....

    Hi all

Did I really say Captain Kirk's Arse Hair? I meant, of course, Spock's Beard.

As you may have guessed by now, my long awaited copy of "The Light" by Spock's
Beard finally made it into my grubby little claws, together with two other new
CDs that you may be interested in, so here are my typically subjective reviews.

    HEAVENWOOD - Diva

Heavenwood are a six-piece band from Portugal and they are already making quite
a name for themselves in Europe as one of the bands to watch for. This album
is sure to please anybody who likes their music just a little bit darker and
heavier - sounds like Amorphis, Theatre Of Tragedy, Moonspell, Tiamat and
Paradise Lost all rolled into one. As Oliver Twist said, "Please Sir, I want
    some more".

    ULVER - Kveldssanger

Staying in good old Europe, we move on to Ulver, who come from Norway. This
album is in danger of becoming one of my regular companions on cold winter
nights, when the only other things I have to comfort me are my girlfriend,
a bottle of good whisky and my loathing for most of the rest of humanity.
Just three guys, acoustic guitars, flutes, a cello or two and vocals, which
adds up to some wonderfully atmospheric, romantic, melancholy and intensely
satisfying music. Special thanks to Mape for the recommendation, which I can
only pass on to the rest of you.

    SPOCK'S BEARD - The Light

There has already been quite a lot of talk about this one on the jam. This is
one that you really have to sit down and listen to, otherwise you're going to
miss a lot and possibly end up not liking it. I'll start with what I don't like
and then go onto the positive stuff. To begin with, I think the lyrics are
terrible, the sort of stuff that 13-14 year old kids would write for class
assignments. Also there are a couple of whiney bitches who do backing vocals
like on Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" and they detract from the music.
And apart from the piano playing, which sometimes gets a bit too jazzy for my
taste, that's about all that I don't like. Now on to the good bits. Four great
tracks (I hesitate to call them songs) that take you on a roller coaster ride
through some fantasic progressive music. Sometimes the bass player sounds so
much like Chris Squire it's unreal. I was pleasantly surprised by most of the
vocals, some of which remind me of John Lennon's later stuff. Two of my all-time
favourite keyboard instruments make a welcome return: the Hammond organ and the
Mellotron (nostalgia rules). The influences of this band are simply too
numerous to mention, but am I the only one who can clearly hear Steeley Dan
in there? I might have liked the album just a bit heavier, but overall a very
nice job, and one that I think will appeal to nearly all jammers. Now, how about
    a band called McKoy's Armpit?

On the favourite short track thing, my vote goes to "Yeah" by Kyuss on their
album "Blues For The Red Sky": don't blink or you'll miss it.

Bernd Basmer proposed collecting for poor musicians and bands. I can only assume
that he meant financially challenged (political correctness) as opposed to
musically inadequate (there are more than enough of the latter already, without
rewarding them in cash). Oh, the pitfalls of the English language.

It sounds like it was easier to get into and out off East Germany (RIP) than to
get into a club in America. Any security guard here who insisted on seeing my
driving licence before letting me into a concert that I've paid for would soon
find out just how bad-tempered a 6 feet 2 inch, 250 pound ex-rugby player can
get: Mike Portnoy would have to scrape him off the wall.

And my last point today is in my capacity as inofficial provider of Ytse
drinks. The so-called festive season will soon be upon us, so here is my
    receipe for Ytse Christmas Punch:

    1 liter good red wine
    1/4 liter cognac
    1/4 liter Cointreau
    Cinnamon and cloves to taste
    250 g sugar
    Sliced oranges and lemons

Heat all of this together gently (don't let it boil) until the sugar dissolves.
Keep warm. Drink slowly and carefully. Perhaps the world isn't such a bad place
after all (and don't blame me if you get a hangover).

    stay safe and happy listening

All I have to say is Trent Resner, WHO-da-fuck from Smashing Pumpkins,
Ambient music, Yani, Who-da-Fuck from Black Crows, Who-da-fuck from Sonic
Youth, etc. There are just as many shitty keyboardists who can only make
little sound-effects as shitty guitarists who can only play power chords.
Respected guitarists (not musicians) need to have some tallent. I think
many guitarists could out-shred many, if not all, keyboardists. I may
just not have heard the right keyboardists, though. So fuck this whole
idea of war because it sucks and makes every guitarist and keyboardist
bitter. I think they're both integral to a full-sounding band. Be well.

Exactly. John Tesh escaped from Roswell New Mexico.

Wham bam you said it for me.

    >>...the keyboard bashing will come to an end today.

How about this whole dumb ass war ends now. I don't feel sorry for
keyboardists, and I won't be convinced to. Hasn't the whole Jason Becker
issue taught you anything? How god damn petty is this problem? Why should
we sit here and listen to people whine about it? Grow some nads and make an
impression with your music, not your mouth.

    Hi Jammers !

I really didn't want to start another hair debate on the jam.
I scanned the picture because I wanted to give everyone the
chance to see what Kevin looks like now.
And please, stop that crap about Kevin and Oasis !
Don't even think about it. He's still my favourite musician
and keyboardist, and if you are a serious jammer, you should
pay respect to the man. Without him, this all wouldn't have
    been possible.
Yes, it's the music that counts.

Why oh why do we of the DTIFC have to tease those who are not yet in
it?!? Why don't we just tell them the truth about what our present is?
It's not toilet paper (sick-but godawful funny), nor the new album.

People, the guys in Dream Theater have graced us with.......

OUR VERY OWN AUTOGRAPHED POLAROID OF PETRUCCI's NEW TWINS....

    YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!
