A few things to pass on:

If i don't say so before Saturday, i hope to catch many of you at
Birch Hill. If everything goes as planned, i'll be in my Finneus Gauge
wear. I'll be easy to spot. =)

Speaking of which, i'm wondering how many of you have voted in my
end-ofyear ytsejam poll, hhmmm? maybe 50 of you?

            THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

so, with that in mind, those of you who HAVE NOT VOTED in my
poll...here's you're second grand fuckin' invitation.

            VOTE.

            VOTE.

            VOTE.

"but syrinx@! what the hell are you talking about?"

            well, i'll tell you!@

as we all know, we do our little "end of year" poll of our
favorite cd's of 1996. This year i'm conducting it. I've had a lot of
votes (betwen 50-75 of you) but there's 930 people on the jam. WHAT ARE
YOU WAITING FOR? A GRAND INVITATION?

<this is where you scroll up and see my grand invitation>

email me (syrinx@dreamt.org) your top 5 cd'd of 1996 IN ORDER.
They are being polled in 3 ways:

            1st place votes
            total votes
            total points
                    1st place = 5 pts.
                    2nd place = 4 pts.
3rd place = 3 pts, etc, etc, etc.

some things to be aware of:

1: SUPERIOR DOES NOT COUNT. god, i wish it did, but since "my"
version came out in 1995 (that's the orignal version) then the 1996
verion by NOISE records is mute. Sorry, Bernd. If it counted, i'd vote
    it #1. =)

2: MIKE BAHR CD'S DO COUNT...but only if they came out in 1996. :)

oh. wait. i only had two. oh well. so..e-mail me by December
31st with your top 5 of the year. I'll give the results of the poll as
early into 1997 as i'm physicaly able.

catch ya on the flip side@!

    >A little anecdote that relates to this...a friend of mine went to see a show at the Stone Pony about a year ago with about four people. The show was 18 and over, and she was 20 at the time. The guys at the door required two IDs to get in. She had only her drivers' license, which said she was 20, and they *STILL* told her they wouldn't let her in. So the five of them wound up not seeing the show....bouncers can definitely be pricks......

Wtf? What would one use for a 2nd ID??? She should've slipped the bouncer a $20 bill. You'd be suprised at what people will do for you if you slip them a little cash. Of course, you'd have to be desparate since if you made a habit of it, you'd be in the poor house really fast.

so what does it mean that the boys aren't trying out all their new stuff? does it mean that they are already confident and don't need to try it out? does it mean that they are not confident and don't want to play them? does it mean that they are saving them for a surprise? does it mean that they want ppl like me to speculate?

what effect is stevey v. using on the main riff of blowfish?

why is it that bangkok and fire garden suite are split up when they are just different sections of the same song? especially when fgs already has different sections.

    still waiting for the surprise...

    Hey Guys,

Just wanted to say that Toad's place was AMAZING last Friday. My ears have just stopped ringing. James sounded the best I've ever heard him and Derek's new rig is *intense*. He's even got real rotating speaker cabinets now. John Myung is now playing a Yamaha 6-string fretless. If any of you noticed the small bottle of Jagermeister Mike held up at the end of the show, I'm the one who gave it to him.

I'm wondering if anyone who taped the show would be willing to trade me for a copy. I'm dying to get a copy of this show so I can get familiar with all the new material. Please e-mail me privately.

Yes, start the account. Send all donations to SU 1576 Williams College, Williamstown (BF) MA, 01267. I'll take very good care of all proceeds. Oh, and don't send coins. They're heavy, they'd rip your envelope, and being starving musicians, I--that is--we would have a hard time carrying them. Paper please. All cash, no checks. Valid credit card numbers are OK. And all you people who saw DT can send a little extra to compensate for your extravagent sins. Those who wish to avoid this beforehand can send tickets to the above address, too. You see, I don't mind going to hell, but I know all the rest of you do. Be well. Matt B

My age is 20, and my favorite song under a minute is anything by Anal Cunt! Anybody else dig these guys? (All their songs are like 15 seconds...they rock!)

As for KM and his new hair...I haven't seen his new hair-style, but I heard that he cut his hair. I have a different take on the whole hair issue. It's about the kind of image that is portrayed when you have the long hair as opposed to when you don't. I guess it was a further step in liberating himself from DT and the kind of image they put forth. I think that image has a lot to do with DT's appeal, so I can see why some fans are upset that he did it. I personally love the whole glam thing, and that kind of image helps me idolize them, and therefore be on a listserve like Ytsejam (and therefore write this message :) So I, too, am kind of upset about KM's new image. His music, and now his persona, seems (IMHO) to be going against what DT is about. Think about a band like Metallica, and what kind of statement they were trying to make when they, as a group, cut their hair. It's not even a hair thing, what about when Kiss took the makeup off? Did it make any of them any less talented? Of course not, but it's definitely a statement about their future direction. So maybe we're not upset about the hair really, but about the fact that KM is definitely doing an about-face from his DT days. Thanks for paying attention...

I was wondering if anyone going to the Birch Hill show would mind picking me up a poster. E-mail me if you are interested. Of course I'll pay for shipping. Does anyone have tapes of Rush's Test for Echo tour, especially the one last Sunday in Miami. I was there and it was awesome, especially Peart's solo on his revolving kit. If so, I'm interested in buying a copy.

Regarding Kevin Moore's new hair cut: Lay off of him. It may look silly a little different, but don't tell me the pictures of DT in WDADU are any better. Judge a musician on his music and a model on his looks.

Just wanted to thank everybody who gave me info on the BH age thing. As much as I want to see them in concert, my parents are against the idea of me "attempting" to get in..for some reason they have this notion that if I get carded I'm gonna get arrested or something..it's only 1 hour away, so I think it's MORE than worth a try. Oh well..not much I can do about it..even if I sneak out, I'm gonna get caught, which means I wouldn't be going to any future DT concerts, so I might as well bite the bullet and wait. A friend of mine, who I was gonna go with, is gonna go without me. I insisted on it..he really wants to go, but feels bad that I can't, but he really likes DT, and wants to go....plus I get a Tee Shirt out of the deal..If I do end up going, you 'll see me there in my YtseJam shirt. Thanks again, guys.

    Waiting for Sleep- Chris

I know I just speak for myself here, but I didn't judge him based on his looks. I still think he kicks ass as a keyboardist, I just think he **looks** like he should be in Oasis. That's not saying that I think his music IS like Oasis's, I just think he looks the part. Heck, I myself am big into metal and I have short hair. Hair doesn't make the musician, it just adds to the image.

    Later,

Peace be with you and God bless.
