Now that is pretty sick...You would have had to touch your snot to see it.
But it would have been really cool at least if the crunchy bits from your

Now to the jammers that may have pissed off Derek with their comments...way
to go. Hey if I replace JP some day, you can bet I'll change some of the
guitar arrangements so I won't be so bored playing some ex-members stuff.
I look forward to hearing what DT has done with some of the songs...If I want
to hear note for note playing, I'll listen to the CD...

Last night I had a dream that I was shopping for an Ibanez guitar. All
they had at the store were 9 and 10 string guitars. The darn (look no
profanity) salesperson wouldn't even let me play it. "Hey don't touch
that, you can only look." Oh well...

A recent post got me thinking of how I got into DT. See, I happened to notice
a strange new CD lying on my brother's floor a few years ago. I was attracted
to the physical package design so much that I decided to give it a listen.
I didn't instantly start having orgasms or anything, hey, but I liked what I
heard. Complex, heavy, progressive. This was, btw, Awake. It'd been in a
listening booth at Tower(!) and my brother had just happened to listen to it
there, and he bought it immediatly.
But the funny thing is that I was *destined* to be a DT fan. This all
takes place over Christmas break a few years ago, and when I got back to school
in Jan. I had a new roommate, from India no less. So we're getting acquanted,
you know how it is, eventually the "so what do you listen to?" comes up, and it
did. I was so *not* expecting him to say dream theater that I actually thought
he said GREEN DAY. I confused dream theater with *green day* because I thought
it so improbable that anyone else I knew would have heard of them yet. So I
was a ittle ignorant on that matter, so fuckin' sue me. :)
But no, DT happens to be this guy's favorite band and I guarantee I would have
heard it from him had I not heard it elsewhere first.
So you see, I was *destined* to be a DT fan, one way or the other.
    Destined, I tell you. Destined!

So let's hear some more of these stories.

Parallels is my favorite FW CD by far and is definately a great one to
pick up for the new fan. You might also try their greatest hits cd titled
"Chasing Time." The cd booklet inside gives an excellent history of the
band and its music and it contains 14 tracks. Check it out if you want a
taste of FW music through the years.

    SPEAKING OF DRUGS...................
to all you people complaining about the smell of pot at the dt shows:

relaaaaax. so what if the brother next to you's smokin? unless he blows it in
your face (to which i would then kill him), every one has their way of
enjoying dt (or any other band, for that matter). if the brother's gotta have
his hits, let em have it. the truth of the matter is that, some guy smoking
pot shouldn't ruin your night. as for "you don't need to be high with dt's
music", maybe YOU don't, but maybe THEY do. whatever, that's their problem. i
personally have heard them sober, drunk, stoned, and tripping, and it makes
NO FUCKING DIFFERENCE. but whatever- let the brother do his shit, and you go
do yours......i guess (to add to my "flexible ears" title, i guess i have a
    "flexible-state-of-mind- power-to-listen-to-dt", too)

it's not that i say "everyone must get stoned". OF COURSE you don't HAVE to
(people like d-man and bafu have proven that to me), but i don't think
treating the stoners like nazi war criminals is any more useful. whatever.

The B3 and the C3 are the essentially the same, except that one is the European model (C3, the one Keith Emerson uses if you'd the credits, esp. on the early albums), and the other is the (North) American model (B3). Difference: power supply?? 110v vs 220? No flames please, if vice versa. The L100 is a smaller model that KE also uses. I believe that the L100 is actually the one that KE *throws* about the stage, but not sure. For more info on Hammonds: see *http://www.webcom.com/~groove/hammond/faq.html*

Related question: Does/did KM or DS actually use a Hammond on stage or in the studio on any DT recordings. IMO, the *Hammond* sound, esp. *Perfect Strangers* cover, is synthesizer, not actually a Hammond: it sounds too clean to my ear to be Hammond+Leslie.

    Hey,

I just wanted to say that posts like Damon's with little interviews with the band are exactly why I find this list to be essential. I am not the jam majority so I won't tell people to stop a thread if it's legitimate, even if I think it's completely wasting bandwidth *coughcoughmydadlikesXmusiccough* but I really have to give the YtseReporter award to senor Damon. I think the vast majority of us haven't been able (for geographical reasons) to see any of the DT shows on this mini tour, or any of Mike and John's clinics EVER (GET YOUR ASS TO CHICAGO, YOU FRIGGIN' EAST COASTERS!) and as such any information from the band directly is invaluable. Next, lay off Bafu... he's not to blame for everything. Most of it, yes, but not everything. He definately gets the Miss Understood award for the Ytsejam. (And we're looking into what's causing the the cord on the "You're Being a Dick" Madsman action figure to get stuck. We've had to recall them from the stores because one of them was reciting Bon Jovi lyrics backwards and it appears there are a few hidden messages, and another one actually choked a blind guy to death... ) Build a happier YtseTomorrow. Howdy doo.

Now will everyone stop posting those "did anyone dub any of the recent DT shows" posts. I thought this subject was supposed to be dealt with even before the gigs took place. For chrissakes, Mike Portnoy (indirectly) asked us nicely not to dub any of the gigs and here we are, commenting about how poor the security was on some of the gigs and how you could've smuggled a frigging portable studio in there. Have some respect to what mr. Portnoy said. There, I still have to write a post without whining about something... :)

Vincent LuPone said: >Heath's last post made me think about what would happen if DT became a >major hit here in America. So, guys, what would happen? Dunno about that. But surely the Ytsejammers' quality would decrease.... Just take a look at the average fan of any of the 'major hits'...

"Rockin' Japan" is the same boot as "Wake Up!" is (Jan. 24th 1995, Urawa Bunka Center, Saitama, Japan, John Myung's birthday), but only has the nine first songs of it. It has an excellent sound quality. All jammers beware! I know at least three boots of the same gig. Wake Up!, Mind Control (has AFAIK some extra songs on it ) and Rockin' Japan. And then there's of course the PPV video.

I guess that Sega Saturn pinball "Necronomicon" won't be the only videogame hit the jammers will be buying to hear the music...did all the Satch fans and Steve Vai aficionados know that there's a Formula One simulation for the Sony Playstation that features 15 rock tracks, including BOTH of the aforementioned guitar gods...? CD Review:

Some of you besides may have seen the guy outside the Strand pedalling a CD from his group "3rd degree." He mentioned DT, Rush and Marillion among others as influences. I had an extra ticket I couldn't unload, so I traded him for a disc.

Right out of the gate, I like it. A clean sound to it from up on the etherial plane :) It's got lots of melodic changes within a song. Some of the harmonies actually do remind me of King's X, another influence, or perhaps, Utopia (they did cover some Todd RUndgren stuff). I personally like some of the places the acoustic guitar goes. I could see them backing up DT. It might make for a little more of a progressive theme than Einstein/Beth Hart, not that there was anything wrong with them.

Hey, take it easy on me, it's my first review <sniff> <sniff>.

Anyways, if you're interested they have a web page stamped on the CD. They gotta be worth a looksie just for that, eh? There's a few sound samples there for you to nibble on...

The terrible part is that the band has asked me to cease production of Tapestry. The great part is that we can reasonably guess, between that and the Xmas CD contents, that the Uncovered material is going to be released for real. Just speculation, of course, but it's based in reality.

Here's what's up with the CD orders then. I'll be moving directly on to the Darkest of Winters CD (DT of course) which will feature material from the Holidays shows of 1995. Scarred, the instrumentals, the medleys, electric Silent Man, changed Lie, changed Voices, etc. The source material is really really great.

If you want TDOW anyway, I will automatically carry over your Tapestry payment and/or reservation to Darkest of Winters. You needn't do anything to make this happen, I'm just changing my listing header. :) Since most of you buy every DT boot I make anyhow, I am guessing that this will be the overwhelmingly popular decision. Winters will be released in early 1997 just like Tapestry was going to be.

If you had your heart so set on the covers stuff that nothing else will do, I can refund your order. Just let me know. Or, at your option, you can substitute any other CD I make in its place. Because this was an unforeseen eventuality, you CAN get a Tori Amos Inside the Storm or Metallica Wrath of God in this way (this is sort of limited to the first several people who request it, obviously).

Anyway, I'm sorry to all for the change of plans. Of course, it's hard to be bummed when I'm still excited that the covers gig stuff will likely show up on real releases! :) Take care all...

the date is wrong, i have this boot, the guys who made it are nadwipes. its really from january 24th 1995 and it is actually a one disc version of the popular 2 disc "Wake Up!" the sound quality is pretty good, its soundboard i'm pretty sure.. the only complaints i've heard are john myung's bass being a bit loud n buzzy, or james having a bit of an "off night"... i dont find either of these disturbing, but if you're picky you just might. hope i helped :)

The time is now... the scene: a dark, messy dorm-room in North Eastern Connecticut... a scruffy looking college student (me), is in desperate need of a subject for an abstract painting he must paint for his scenic painting course. He wonders why audio engineers must take scenic painting. Anyway. He searches in vain for some time, until his eyes fall upon the cover of his Silent Man single. Ahha! The Muses have spoken! Perfect shapes to abstract, cylinders and such... Ah! It was great... He painted fast and furious, and in the end had a not too bad painting that to the trained eye could still be easily recognized as the cover. Even had an abstract bullet hole and cracks...

Someday I ought to stick a scan of it someplace for anyone who cares. The teacher loved it. =+)

Now back to your regular scheduled flame-war...

    Andy

To all those bickering about guitar vs. keyboard:

The perfect solution. There is a great band that comes through my area every now and then that has two bass players and a drummer. Now that's what I like to see. :)

    Happy Holidays!
