I totally agree..and feel the same way about it.. I know for a fact
.that if they get big.. well i can tell people that i listened to them
before they were big.. and theyll believe me ..because of all the
nagging and annoying that i did to them so they would give DT a listen..
while now everyone sees me with a new cd and they always say " Dream

In Providence, they played that at the end of "A Change of Seasons." (I think that was it; it was right as the show ended. They never got to "Metropolis" because of some curfew law.)

Or, Heck No! just a result of attending a LOT of DT shows. I saw them twice, and I think Andy saw them three times. When I heard them at New Haven, I could barely understand James' singing, except whn I knew the words. TAMP was the only tune where I could understand an inkling of what he was sayin'. Andy just has a better ear (and memory) than I do, so he caught much of what I missed...

Actually, i recently put up a DT-page, and there you will find a page with a form where you type in how you got into DT. It is just one entry there yet (mine :), but just made the page, and haven't spread the word yet :) So please! Visit it and contribute to the page!

The page is very much unfinished, but it will improve damatically the next couple of days. The adress is:

BTW: If anyone have a tape of one of the recent shows, I am very interested in getting a copy! I am also interested in that ppv-vid that everyone is bragging about :)

And Mike B, a little late perhaps, but congratulation!

NOw let's just hope they actually tour through SLC. We got shafted in Boise last year, and alot of the other kewl bands shafted SLC on this last tour. Rush totally blew over it, as did G3. It's one of the biggest cities in the nation, too. I guess it's got a bad rep for being such a "good" city. :P If DT does show, look for me in my Ytsejam shirt though!

For those of you who still haven't ordered "DREGs of the Internet", (despite all of the good reviews you've seen here!), you can now listen to full-length song samples WITHOUT WAITING thanks to the kind folks at RealAudio.

If you don't have it already, you can download RealAudio 3.0 from http://www.realaudio.com/

then go to our site and listen to some tunes! (Sure, RealAudio is like listening to AM radio, but here's your chance to try-before-you-buy.)

Try 'em out and let me know what you think (or if you find any snags!)

DTC: Unfortunately, I didn't make it to this year's Birch Hill show, even though i went to the two previous. It was a decision between being squashed like a sardine and going to the Devil's game at the Meadowlands (which i already had tickets to), and it was still a close call......

    Heheh...

That's what I used to think...

My first exposure to Dream Theater was not a positive one to say the least. My friend Matt had been sifting through the used bins at the local Pawn shop one day and bought it. He'd heard the drummer was pretty good in the latest Modern Drummer. He was hooked the first time he'd heard it. He ended up showing me (I for one was in the Kurt Cobain loving, stupid crap music, nonsensical lyrics, I hate myself and want to die mode) Another Day. He goes, "Since you like Journey, I really think you'll like this song." I made alot of fun of it and of him. :P Eventually, after his rantings and braggings of this "wonder" band, I decided to buy a cassette of Images & Words. It took about 20 listens to start getting into it. I thought it was too wussy in places and to showy in others. The only song that kept me stuck on the album was Under a Glass Moon. After time I accepted that they were a "decent" band and they got semi-regular play in my still-then cassette player. One day, I saw an advertisement about this "ytsejam" mailing list. I decised to sign up at school so I could keep my drummer posted on new stuff. After time, you all made it actually fun to listen to Dream Theater. I was able to hear them in new ways, with everyone's own interpretations of the songs and stuff. I ended up staying on the ytsejam for my own well-being rather than Matt's. I don't think I'd still really find DT so enthralling had it not been for the mailing list to help me open my mind. Eventually, I graduated and had to lose my account and went Theatrically Unstable for about 1-1/2 years. Thank goodness I'm back. DT's still strong and better than ever so I hear. Thanks to everyone that was on the list back then and to all of those now who still keep the Dream alive. You all Rok Nadz!

    >Yeah the posts about "Mars Attacks" are **really** related to Dream Theater, >aren't they?!

    (invoking Ytseseniority)

I see. One has to be a Ytsecelebrity like Mike Port, er, Bahr to be able to post a little blurb about a movie.

To tell the truth, half the sh*t here has little to do with Dream Theater. What do I care about how hard finals are; I'm not in school any more? What do I care about John Coltrane vs. Ponce deLeon vs. your momma, or mostly one-sided flame wars between our very vocal Ytseblink and Barfu, or how much Bitch Hell sucks, or Ytsecons that 800+ of us didn't attend, or continuing public requests for tapes of the recent shows that the band *explicitly* told us not to record, or that half the bandwidth of an off-topic thread is often composed of complaints about that thread. Wtf? I don't care, but perhaps someone does. No one is innocent.

Some CDs I picked up the other day...

Masquerade- Surface of Pain: cool stuff, but it sounds dated to me. Could've been written ten years ago or more. Maybye it will grow on me. Kind of reminds me of old Fates Warning in places. Is it more correct to say that they sound like Iron Maiden? I'm only vaguely familiar with IM's material, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The Gathering- Mandylion: Freakin' awesome. Powerful, often atmospheric metal; only fast here and there. Somewhat reminiscent of Threshold in places (I guess that stands to reason as they're both from Germany, right?). Some of the instrumental sections are _very_ moving and the female vocalist's performance is *beautiful*, I think I'm in love *sniff*. I forgot how much I liked female vocalists...

To Bay Area 'jammers: are there any places in Nor-Cal to find bands like Symphony X and Angra? Is the CD Wherehouse in Newark better than the one in Sunnyvale; I've never been to the former.

For those that don't know yet. There's a (fairly) new King's X newsgroup:

    rec.music.artists.kings-x

Also, if anybody wants a (still-sealed) copy of the Galactic Cowboys self-titled Geffen debut CD, let me know. A music store by me has about 4-5 copies left for $4.99. I already bought about 5 of them (great presents!!).

If you're interested, I can snag a few. The cost to you would be $4.99 + 6% tax, plus $1.24 shipping = $6.53 (or thereabouts).

    The first thing....

I went to a political party for young people in a bar. There was this group playing, an their drummer kicked ass...! i just couldnt belive he could palay like that... he started playing some rush songs and sounded exactly alike... i couldnt belive it, they were in this kinda clasic rock thing... i like it, but im not a huge fan, i usually listened to Metallica, Slayer, Motley Crue, etc... so we started talking to them, and he asked me (i played the drums at the time) if what kinda music we listened and played, and we said, "heavy metal" so then he said, "so you listen to Dream theater" and a friend of mine said "yeah, yeah, thats it, thats what we listened to" (lie) well. A few days latter my friend bought Images n Words, and he started to listen to it, he was all over the place saying how great they were. The first time i listened to them, i said well they play good, but i dont like the singer... But i really didnt listened so one day, we started going to ensenada mexico, in my car, and another friend put Metropolis in my cd player, and i said WHOA!!! so since that moment on its without a doubt my favorite group, i changed playing drums, and now i play the keyboard with my group, and we are now playing kinda comercial progresive rock tyupe of music, that here in mexico we lack, so lets see what happens!!

my favorite songs are, AcoS, Voices, Metropolis, 6:00, Learning to live....

    Hey All,

    Since I was asked:

    >First I'd like to thank Rick and Dave for providing me with >Ytse-Entertainment lately. (While I'm thanking, let me also thank Bri >Levy for making me feel less bad about missing Birch Hill, although I'm >sorry you had a crappy day. What did you think of Rush?)

And also since I DID sort of leave off on a bad note, I will tell you all that I had a great time at the Rush show!! We got there about an hour and a half early, time enough for a few brews. Everyone was out in the parking lot just hanging out. It seemed to me that this was a totally cool crowd. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood and ready for a great show. I went with My brother, his friends, and the same girl who had gotten sick the night before (she was MUCH better by now). We had decent seats, about 3/4 of the way back on the first level. The sound was OK, A lot better than the Counterparts tour!! I'm not sure, but I think during one of the last songs (Can't remember exactly which right now, but..) they totally LOST Alex's Guitar. I mean he is jumping around, but I hear NOTHING but Geddy's base line. All in all, A great evening that pulled the weekend out of the shitter!!

I wanted to comment quickly about the earplug thing. The last few shows I went to before this year, I ALWAYS ended up WISHING I HAD brought earplugs (One time was on the Previous Rush tour). About halfway through the shows, My ears start to crackle, like I have water in them. I was talking to someone else who said the same thing. I DID finally bring earplugs to Poughkipsie, and THOROUGHLY enjoyed the show. I even took them OUT for the encore. I DID notice the same thing that someone else here had mentioned; that some of the guitar lines got a little lost. I used the cheap-o foam ones. Maybe I will invest in some decent ones for the next time. It was funny, though, when I whipped out my...earplugs at the show, and one of the guy's I was with also had a pair, and the thread about them here was enlightening. Funny thing though, I did not them for BH, OR Rush. Either I am going deaf, or the shows were not as loud. SCARY THOUGHT!!

Ok, enough from me for now, back to whatever other things be flying...
