Hey, guys! I just got back from seeing Steve Vai at Axis in Boston.
Two words: Mike Mangini. UN. REAL. Steve wasn't bad, either.
Another note on Mike Mangini -- allegedly Jane Mangini, the very
attractive keyboard player from Einstein, is Mike's wife. Damn. The
    plans I had.... :)

A few people were asking about the set list that DT played at the past
five shows. I'm pretty sure it was the same at all of them (except the
lack of the Metropolis encore in Providence), so here it is:

    ACoS 1 (The Crimson Sunrise)
                 2 (Innocence)
    The Mirror/Lie
    ------------------------------
    Burning My Soul
    Another Hand/The Killing Hand
    ------------------------------
    Just Let Me Breathe
Caught in Alice's 9-Inch Tool Garden
    ------------------------------
    Peruvian Skies
    Pull Me Under
    ------------------------------
    Lines in the Sand
    ------------------------------
    Take Away My Pain
ACoS 4 (The Darkest of Winters)
    The Ytse Jam
    Learning to Live
    ACoS 7 (The Crimson Sunset)
    ------------------------------
    Metropolis Part One

Note: lack of "------" between the tunes means they went right into the
    tune on the proceeding line.

On the subject of trying to figure out some of the new lyrics...

The chorus to Burning My Soul: "Burning my soul!" :)

    The chorus to Peruvian Skies:

    Under Peruvian skies
Chainsaws cut better than knives <--this is probably wrong
The story unfolds in your eyes
Thank you for sharing such a big surprise <--not sure about this
    Battered and bruised
    Always confused
Because burgers go better with fries <--doubtful

Well, I guess I wasn't much help on that front. Sorry. Latah!

    Brian

ps- Hey Binky! -Steve, errr, Joe, ummmmm..... ;)

Well I just got back from "Jerry McGuire." It was a very inspiring two hours and twenty minutes. Before this movie I purchased an album I've been looking for for quite some time. It's called "Gretchen Goes To Nebraska." It's over my head. Not to mention heavenly. Do these King fellows have any videos on MTV?

And this? This is just a more permanent form of IRC, Damon. :)

Come on, you knew this was coming...

---- > From: Brian Cox <lerxst@metronet.com>> > Subject: tapes owed > > to andrew miller especially.

    Andrew Miller, pay attention.

    > all you guys that sent me blanks for shows, i said that i would get > around to them whenever i could. i havent had time for various > reasons, including doing other trades.

Yeah. I haven't had time to eat breakfast because I'm eating lunch. Breakfast be damned.

    > i dont feel any obligation to get tapes out in any time frame > considering i am doing it as a favor. if you wanted the shows in a > hurry then do a real trade for them, or get on a tape tree.

And what a favor it is. If you're done babysitting my blanks, do me another favor and mail them back. I can use them to record myself clawing my own skin off my body, or at least something more entertaining than the absolute silence that's on them now.

    > i have finally learned how to say no to analog grovelers, so i dont > really have this problem anymore.

Well Nancy Reagan did me some good too. I've finally learned to say no to people who offer to waste my time at my expense. Damn this album is voracious.

    > if you sent me blanks for me to tape shows on and return, please email > me and remind me (unlike mr. miller) before posting public insults. i > havent heard anything from this guy in months.

You shouldn't have to hear from this guy. It's not his responsibility to keep tabs on you and make sure you're upholding your end of the deal.

Quick story. Robert Barker is enjoying a three-song performance by John Petrucci from the NAMM '94 show. He can do this anytime he wants. Because he got off his ass and finished something he agreed to do. Could be that he doesn't want people to think he's untrustworthy or neglectful of his trades.

    > i am really busy, and making analog tapes is a pain in the ass that > i never have time for. i am glad to provide any of my DATs as seeds > for trees though, if anyone wants to admin one.

Are these analog tapes part of your chosen field? Is this your career to which you are obligated? Thus you have the right to use the making of analog tapes as some kind of shield?

Don't apologize to anyone, Brian. If trading is such a pain in the ass, stop trading. God knows the people whose hopes you raise by making promises would appreciate it.

Yes, Yes, Yes, I know Brian Cox did this list a great service by providing his tapes to start the tape trees that went around after the HftH shows. But he does a continual disservice to all the individual people to whom he said so long ago "yes I'll dub all four shows plus Rudess and Morgenstein for you" by not mailing them out.

Just wanted to give a recommendation for the Trans Siberian Orchestra Christmas album that I picked up the other day. I listened to it first at Blockbuster and was immediately hooked. It's a concept album, and it tells an inspiring story. All that and the music is great. Thanks to whoever else talked about this one on the jam. Happy Holidays to all.

My first experiance with DT was rather cosmic. My best friend and his cousin and I decided to take a trip to New Hampshire after our junior years in high school. We were going to find a spot in the White Mountains, and just camp there for two weeks, and climb a new mountain every day. Well, on the way up, we mostly listened to Queen and stuff, since I had control of the CD player. When we finally got there, and were zooming along the curves of the Kangamangus (like I could spell it... hah) Highway, he popped in WDADU, the at-that-time-only-available-in-Japan version. Needless to say, zipping along the backroads listening to TKH and YtseJam and all those other songs really made the trip. Is was almost as though DT was our soundtrack for the trip. Since the trip itself was so utterly cool, (3 high school guys, no parents, a tent, and New Hampshire. What could be better?) DT really stuck in my mind as 'cool' both in their own regard, and also because of the relation to the trip. Anyway, when I got home, the memory kind of faded, since I couldn't find WDADU anywhere I looked. But a few months later, I checked out a bin on a lark, and found this shiny new album called Images & Words. I bought it immediately, of course. I was impressed by the "new singer's" power and range, and the new songs all kicked ass. I dubbed TTT as our new "driving on the mountain backroads" song. Anyway, that's how I got dragged in. Since then, I've tried to grab up every DT related thing I could find, and even made a few Ytse-converts by forcing them to listen to DT on long car trips when I'm driving. It's never an issue of which band they will listen to, but which DT album they'll listen to. Heh-heh...

God, I've only been on the Jam a week and I'm already completely sick of reading all the posts that are completely unrelated to DT (i.e. "Mars Attack," which musicians chicks prefer and other various stupid arguments). Let stick with DT. Isn't the jam hard enough to keep up with as it is? Or maybe I'm one of the few who has a life "off line."

Related to DT, I'm looking for a new or like-new copy of "Lords of Sound." Anyone know where I can order one from a reputable source? If so, E-mail me privately and let's make a deal.

I am not owed anything by Brian Cox but I thought I'd comment on his remarks:

Brian Cox wrote: >all you guys that sent me blanks for shows, i said that i would get >around to them whenever i could. i havent had time for various reasons, >including doing other trades. i dont feel any obligation to get tapes out >in any time frame considering i am doing it as a favor. if you wanted the >shows in a hurry then do a real trade for them, or get on a tape tree.

Yeah, but months and months is simply ridiculous.

    >i have finally learned how to say no to analog grovelers, so i dont >really have this problem anymore.

That is so nice of you.

    >if you sent me blanks for me to tape shows on and return, please email >me and remind me (unlike mr. miller) before posting public insults. i >havent heard anything from this guy in months.

Posting publicly lets other's know who is reliable or not when it comes to trades.

    >i am really busy, and making analog tapes is a pain in the ass that >i never have time for. i am glad to provide any of my DATs as seeds >for trees though, if anyone wants to admin one.

Excuses like this really piss me off. Lets see: 1. connect DAT recorder/player (whatever) to analog deck-maybe 2 minutes 2. put tape in analog recorder-maybe 10 seconds 3. push play on DAT, record on analog-maybe 5 seconds 4. come back 45 minutes later flip tape-maybe 10 seconds 5. come back 45 minutes later-take tape out-maybe 10 seconds

And a total of about 2 and 1/2 minutes at the max. That takes up so much of your time. I am not singling Brian out here, but the no time excuse is not a valid excuse. Comments?

So now that TSO is all over the radio and MTV, do we celebrate in their success or do we label them "sellouts" and hate them? Funny how if a few of us like a band, they're "cool", but if everyone likes them, they "suck".

They played a couple bars of Fortune in Lies at the end of A Change of Seasons, before the Metropolis encore. I know because I left halfway through Metropolis (don't kill me!) to get a head start so I never heard the end. I ended up parking on the softball field that was soaked with two days worth of hard rain, so I figured I'd make a hasty retreat before the whole place emptied and everyone was slipping and sliding into each other... Hi Jammers,

As Scott already pointed out in response to Younis Hilal's post, the green lines underneath a circuit board conduct current and connect all of the transistors, resistors etc. above. Interesting that Younis' post began with his comments about his grocery bill coming out to be $21.12. I say that's interesting b/c the inside cover of the 2112 album happens to contain a picture of a circuit board.

Always happy to bring you the useless observation of the day, Ken

I agree with you to some extent. We all do it. A lot of it can be headed off at the pass with e-mail.

My take on it is that it really ain't as bad in the grand scheme of things. Imagine if the messages were hand delivered, you had to open an envelope, unfold a piece of paper, scan it, walk over to the nearest recepticle, then chuck it in the wastebasket if you didn't like it? It takes me all of, what, at most a second or 3 to delete/skipover the post.

Spleen venting is part of being human. It happens all the time. Go check out some of the Usenet newsgroups and then come back here to the cakewalk! Out there, a strictly "moderated" group usually consists of ONE person deciding what's on-topic and what isn't. At least here, group behavior prevails. I praise Skadz very highly for not doing content-based censoring (well, perhaps he's just too damn busy :).

It could be just me, but it actually seems much better on here lately than it was, say 3-6 months ago :).

Whooaaaa! What a nightmare ! I just went through 20 jams and took me 8 hours..guess I read them too well..but then again ppl kept harrasing me with the phone all the time. Anyway, want to know if anyone has any cd stores to recommend where I can order stuff real cheap ? I tried the net one day for hours, but it kept giving me these weird addresses. I know a friend of mine orders stuff from Germany, but it ain't that cheap. And then again I don't speak the language so no use for me. Please help me out here !! Yeah guys, for once you wrote something important. I mean the earplug thing. I've been using those for years, whenever I remember to bring them with me. And when I don't, my ears ring, for instance after the Type 0' gig, for like 2 days ! That's no fun at all. And you would't want to get tinnitus, I know what it can be like since my brother has it and a friend of my boyfriends. No peace at all. Besides, the plugs don't take away any notes. If you find the right ones and use them well they're perfect. I use these cheap ones halfway to my ear and I can hear everything perfectly. The thing why I don't put them all the way inside my ear is, because these plugs make the bass come out pretty wild and I don't want to just listen to the bass. Even when the plugs are halfway inside my ear they help me the way they're supposed to so I never get the ringing after the show. So use them or be an idiot ! Hey Vince and all those ppl who are lucky to have parents who like metal or rock ! I'm glad to notice I'm not the only freak here..as my parents are into metal and my mom was the one who got me into DT. That's just so cool to have parents like this huh ?? Tell me, how do your friends react to something like this ? I myself sometimes feel like my parents are stealing friends from me..but it's fun anyway. If you don't get a friend to go to a concert w/ ya, you can always ask your parents !! There was a discussion about Bon Jovi. I'm a fan of Richie Sambora and I really love his solo lp. You should go and listen to it 'cos it sure ain't no Bon Jovi stuff ! Even Eric Clapton plays on the record ! Did you know that Richie wrote some of that stuff when he was 18 ? Damn, not many get to write great songs like that at such an early age. That lp has some huge emotions and the playing is just wild ! Not your average Vai stuff tho, you've been warned..this is a record you put on when you want to relax. Gives me the goosebumps.(Is that how you spell it ) Something like The Gathering on Mandylion. I get chills down my spine when I hear that womans voice ! Some weird coincidences happened here when I went through those jams. First off, I put on that GATHERING tape and there it was, DAVID writing about them..then I went on reading as I had my parrot on my shoulder at the same time, and then..she pinched me from my neck (she does that when she's not noticed) and right that second I read "ouch that hurt" by DAMON..funny !! More..as my Gathering tape ended I put on the Tribute to Judas Priest and when that ended I listened to RUSH and then again Gathering. And again when I put on that tape and went on reading, the first line was about Gathering from RIPZERO... this can only happen to me as there are millions of odd things in my life. Like, me and my mom can often tell who is calling and just before the phone rings we can tell that it will ring soon. And lots of other things. These feelings are cool ! Anyone else have these things ? My brother's girlfriend can tell when a relative of hers is going to die..that is scary. Oh well, I was supposed to write a short one here, but it always turns out this way. But who cares, no one will read this anyway. I have to say I was really disappointed at you ppl ! When I wrote here the first time I was expecting a little more replies to my search on tapetraders. Gee, do you even know what I'm talking about ?? If I was you I'd start collecting as many tapetrader friends as possible since there is a huge advantage from them. Maybe you haven't realized but through all these friends all over the world you can find ALL THE THINGS you were ever after of ! I know I'm always anxiously waiting for tapes from my friends. And I don't mind using those friends as they're using me too. It works both ways. Now get your mails coming or be losers ! Hey ! Anyone got this live thing called "EVEN SNOW DIES" from TYPE 0' ? I'm looking for that so if anyone has it please let me know. What was that idiot who wrote about green day being better than DT ?? Someone has the nerve to tell a true DT fan something like this !! Shows how some ppl don't understand s**t about music !! Geez, I wouldn't show my stupidity ! Well, I guess that's why they're stupid, they show it ! And DT being a show-off band, whoa !NEVER IN BILLIONS OF YEARS ! How I would like to rip that guys heart out for that !! DIE BASTARD DIE !!!! Well, enuff for this evening. Damn that new Sentenced is good !! Nothing wrong with the old ones either. TAKE CARE ! SATU-the mailwoman who hasn't been eaten by anyones pet, yet..and still have my own voice :) am I bored of these signs or what...

OOPS! Forgot to mention that I've seen Al DiMeola twice and he's just GREAT ! One was with Rite of Strings. I really like his new and old stuff. The show with Rite..was intense !! I couldn't do anything else but just stare at the guys fingers..it was so awesome I almost flew in the air for being so proud of the guys !! So far three great shows I can mention seeing are -Steve Vai -Dream Theater/Fates Warning -Al DiMeola And of course Moonspell are excellent !! VAMPIRIA !!!!
