Seeing as this year's Christmas Fan Club CD has gone down so well, and
seeing as DT produce such brilliant cover versions, how about getting the
guys to record some specifically for next year's CD. I mean, this
wouldn't have to be state of the art recording or anything so we're not
talking mega bucks here.
We could even run a poll to find out what the most popular suggestions
would be.
Just a thought.
Mark.

Hey guys!!
I just took my last exam for my World Music class and I'm now officially
DONE for the semester!
To that guy who thought he heard some X-mas carol quoted in one of
JP's solos, you're right. I forgot which one, but at the Toad's show I
distinctly heard JP go into a X-mas carol for a few seconds.
To my neighbor and jammer Mike Pomerleau. If you see this, I'm
going home tonight, so give me a call sometime and I'll stop by with some
tapes for you.
Later jammers!

Anyone hear any more on this cd mentioned in the DT fan club newsletter? It mentioned JP doing something on a guitar compilation cd put out by Steve Morse.
Also I read somewhere about a cd with the Johansen brothers and Alan Holdsworth. Any news on this?

The only reason TSo is all over the radio is because it's the season. I don't exactly inow if that's successful. Yeah, as a holiday tune, but hell, I could probably write a Xmas album and it'd get played, simply because we're starving for new Xmas music to downplay the old stuff. IMHO, of course;. Hey, I am greatful that something slightly progressive is getting airplay on bigtime radio, but this doesn't necessarily make it big. It's a Christmas song, that's all, it will get played because it's Christmas, and that's all.

It's basically the Savatage band with Jon Oliva (among others) doing a Christams concept album. The "Christmas Eve" track from DWD is also on this album. The band doesn't consider this as a 'tage project, but you can link from their home page to the TSO home page.
If you like "Christmas Eve", you'll love this. Many instrumentals are familar Xmas songs with heavy guitar backing. I would highly recommend, but then I like 'tage quite a bit.
Most record stores are putting it in their Christmas area near the front of the store, mixed in with other holiday items. That's the best place to look.

Hey! I've got a question for someone in the know: What type of strings does JM use? I've played bass for about 6 years, pretty badly. My amp sucked so hard that I couldn't get any kind of sound out of the instrument. I recently picked up a nice Crate, which makes the instrument sound nice, and figured it probably matters now which strings I use.
I suppose a brand would be important, but I'm more interested in whether he uses roundwounds or flatwounds. Stainless steel or nickel if the former? That sort of thing. I'm not experienced enough to know just by listening. Anybody happen to know?

Wow. I'm an idiot. I guess I should actually read the liner notes (I really only listen to CDs in my car; it's kind of hard to read and drive at the same time, though I'm sure some people do it). Thanks to the people that emailed me about it, too.

Since you have such a special life off-line, why don't you take your one-week-on-the-jam- already-complaining ass back to it? If you had taken the time to give the jam a chance you would have noticed that, yes, there are plenty of "off topic" discussions, but you will not find a better source for actual, in-the-know information about Dream Theater. The beauty of this list lies in its diversity. It is a group of similar-minded (musically, mind you) people who like to share their finds in music and other topics which may or may not be of interest to YOU. But, what cannot be denied is its value re:DT information. If you care enough about DT you'll stick with it and wade through some digressions - if not subscribe to Voices, the moderated version. I find the mix here on the jam to be tolerable and at times amusing. Lists that are too narrow in scope tend to be boring and dry, in my my opinion. Like I said, if you don't like it - adios!

You know, I find this really odd. I don't think that Jon and Paul realized where they were headed when they wrote this album. It appears that everyone's searching for it. I know a couple of people at work who have been searching constatly for it and one of them has had it on backorder for the last 2 months. :P When I ordered mine, the guy said it was the last in the warehouse he orders his CDs from. I have recently seen one at the local K-Mart though in the New Age/Seasonal type section. If all else fails, go for the blue light special. :P Good luck!

I guess if you count the multitude of suburbs around SLC though, that number will double or more. Seems like the whole population of Utah is centered around SLC. Anyway, if DT skips it, I will kick their management's asses from Sacramento to Dover.

I'd like to take you back for a moment, to a time several months ago...to a hotel on Long Island in October....
For some reason, a number of people on this list decided to gather here this particular weekend and have a meeting. The meeting was...interesting, to say the least. At the end of this meeting, the assembled crowd posed at the front of the room for what seemed like a great deal of pictures. Pictures which, despite the highly technical computer knowledge of some among the assembled, have not found their way onto the web yet...or have they??
That is my quest...to find out if these pictures exist, and if so, what further strange rituals one must attemt in order to see them...
..I await further instructions....
