EP stands for "extended play" vs. LP which is "long playing". EP's were
developed after singles, so they were called "extended," and then when they came
up with something even longer, they called it "long playing." LP is a whole
album, whereas EP is a shorter release.

Hey, Beavis here again. I was wondering who I should get in contact with to
buy Superior's cd (the demo or the album or both or whatever it is that
everyone has)....also, I just the other day mailed my $15 to the DT fan
club. Will I get the Xmas cd still? I wrote a little note on it asking if
it was still possible to get it. That's really the only reason I'm joining,
because I've heard the club isn't worth the money...but hey for a cd...8)

Is the club worth it? In any case I still would like the info on getting
the Superior cd. And I'd like to say HEY to all you cool Jammers that were
cool to me up in New Joeeesy!!

Hey Syrinx...email me sometime dude..and BigSwifty, I need your email
    addy...well, I guess I can ask Pellaz for it..hehe. Oh, HEY PELLAZ...thanks
for the use of your pad last sunday. heh

Oh btw, Megadeth's new stuff is going back to the old school 'deth from what
fans have been saying from their weekend of hanging out at megadeth's studio
in Nashville. The title of the album is Needles and Pins. I can't wait!!!

    >>Seeing as this year's Christmas Fan Club CD has gone down so well, and
seeing as DT produce such brilliant cover versions, how about getting the
guys to record some specifically for next year's CD. I mean, this
wouldn't have to be state of the art recording or anything so we're not
    talking mega bucks here.<<

    >>We could even run a poll to find out what the most popular suggestions
    would be.<<

Heh, hands down would be Natural Science (Rush) - that song has DT written ALL
over it! And then follow that sucker up with Time and Motion (Rush again) -
if there's ever a cover done, it appears to be old stuff - T&M is an awesome
new Rush tune (many time changes and has DT written all over it, too) and
since they dropped it from the setlist, why shouldn't DT cover it?

Another one right up there: Queensryche's Neue Regal - since MP and JP are
doing backing vocals now, it makes perfect sense (plus the song has keys in it
as well). Another one would be the song (not album) Rage for Order (which
apparently later evolved into Anarchy X). Other tunes? I got a whole list,
but I can't remember 'em right now.

My only suggestion when doing covers is that DT should put more of their own
trademark on them, instead of doing close-to-verbatim versions. I know they
didn't have a lot of time when rehersing for the Uncovered gig, but if
properly planned, they could allow enough time.

Extended Play, I believe...I believe it refers the the albums being extended
length singles (which I guess the record companies like better thatn calling
    it a NQAFLR - Not Quite A Full-Length Release). :)

Re: the Scott's gig - there's also the possibility that the guys just don't
want the rest of the material being released. We already know how the band
feels about substandard peformances being released to the masses, so maybe
they feel the rest of the stuff isn't good enough to release.

EP stands for "Extended Play". Meaning that it isn't an official album
release or there isn't quite enough material to be considered an official
    release.

Zach asked about the Hellecasters. Yup, I have their first album (but loaned it
out). From what I can remember, they are three country and western studio guitar
players. They are good. If anyone has watched NASCAR racing on ESPN, you would
have heard them. They normally play the Hellecaster as the bed for when they are
    going to cut to commercial.

Those of you who enjoyed the "Turbo Guitar" era of 1988-1992 like
I did will want to do yourselves a favour and pick up:

            Dokken "One Live Night".

Apparently it just came out recently. It's an acoustic set, but
with tons of touch and really good mixing, and a little electric here and
there. Definitely worth your money, blows away those "unplugged" albums
because it's so real and straightforward, and the performance was just
    *that good*.

Highlights of the album: "The Maze" is easily the best track on
it. DT fans will like it; Galactic Cowboys or King's X fans will LOVE it.
The 'Boys would be proud of this one. "Unchain The Night" is a really nice
translation from electric, and ages well. "From The Beginning" is a nicely
done ELP (?) cover that really kicks rhythmically. Mick Brown and Jeff
Pilson do us proud singing leads for Tooth And Nail and Just Got Lucky.
And naturally, "In My Dreams" is a hoot.

Just a humble album review for anyone itching for a new car tape.
    :)

Egads, no! Natural Science would be kewl, but I swear that next to Dog Years, Time and Motion was my least favorite song of that album. I dunno, though, after all the flak that's been thrown around after the whole Rush tribute album mess, my respect for the band has been lost and DT would likely avoid doing covers of theirs immensely. After that last post from Geddy's interview, they have regained some respect with me. If it weren't for Neil's pompous ride my wee little bikey accross New York I'm cooler than shit attitude, I think I'd like the band alot more. Band members attitudes really make an impact to me and influence how I listen to their music. I dunno why, maybe I'm screwed up. Maybe that's why I used to like Blind Melon but can't stand 'em anymore... Just a thought. > Another one right up there: Queensryche's Neue Regal - since MP and JP are > doing backing vocals now, it makes perfect sense (plus the song has keys in it > as well). My votes would be Pantera's Cemetery Gates (which would really rock if DT twisted it), Van Halen's 5150, Queensryche's whole Rage for Order Album + The Thin Line, Marillion's Hotel Hobbies, Warm, Wet Circles, and That Time of the Night (The Shortest Straw). I dunno, Cemetery Gates would be a good one I think...

    >I guess Andrew and I are like Tomat and Zamar those Cobra twins.

Or Wilycat and Wilykit from Thundercats for that matter...

I forgot to mention in my last post about the sound quality at Birch Hill. I was too busy whining and calling attention to myself, I guess. Anyhow, from back (WAY back, by the stairs) where I was, it sounded, dare I say it, *perfect*. Not too loud (like Rush), not too soft. I could hear each and every instrument, none being out of "proportion" in the mix. I could hear the lyrics. Everything. A+. It's a good thing I DAT'ed the show! ...or wished I owned a DAT recorder. Pick one.

Tell you this much. Without keyboards, the bass sound isn't near as penetrating as with. Call me a biased keyboardist, but, when I saw ELP this summer, the bass on those synths rattled my kidneys. You can get pretty low on a bass, but you can't go below human hearing range (unless you had the UberBass (TM) - 14 feet long!). DT had some deep synth, but ELP definitely took the cake for sheer power.

Something else that's bugging me (throw-back to my last complaint, er, post): In Music of the '90s (an idiot class in which I, a slacker, pulled a 107% last marking period - my arch-enemy, Tim Luis, got a 44%!), we did an "activity" where each student brought in a song for lyrical "analysis" ("This is a verse, this is a bridge..."). Stupendously stupid. Mine was "Take The Time", as I'm *sure* you'll all remember. But I've already discussed that. This is what got my goat. It's a racial-thing. This kid, Carlos, who happens to be Puerto-Rican, brought in for his selection, some Garth Brooks song. The majority of the class moaned and groaned and made comments, including this one from BJ Bowdin, who is black. (Note: I'm not exaggerating the speech of this quote. He *actually* talks like this.) "Yo, you're Puerto-Rican, yo! What you be listnin' to *country* for?!" Is there some rule as to what people of certain nationalities/ethic groups *have* to listen to? I'm sure our PR 'Jammers would object to the notion that they HAVE to listen to rap. Rebel (rebel, you've torn your dress...)! Rage against the stereotype-machine! ...augggh, I'll stop.

While I'm hear, I might as well jabber on about another concert I saw last week. I and my bumbling sidekicks, Evan and Toby, traveled to Bryn Mawr College to see a monk concert. Not Thelonious. REAL monks. And not cheesy "Chant" Gregorians either. We're talking Buddhist monks from Tibet. They were nuts. Atonal singing. *No* time signatures! The bass voices in the group were able to do something quite amazing too. They could sing two notes at one time. They've been training their whole life just to do that. That, and dance around in Yak costumes. 12-foot trumpets. "Dance of the Skeleton Lords"... Very entertaining, and for a good cause. The proceeds are going to help Tibetan refugees in India. Hi,

Remember everything I said about the Metallica concert accident, FORGET IT! I talked to someone who went to the L.A. show and she said it happened there too. It definitely looked real though, I'll give em that much.

Also, I got the tapes from the DT tree, but there was no info on the date of the shows and the setlists. If someone could PRETTY PLEASE email them to me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Scott

PS. DON'T BUY CARPE DIEM! MARCEL BERKHOUT IS A THIEF! I'VE WAITED FOR ALMOST A FUCKING YEAR FOR MY CD AND NOTHING HAS HAPPENED! I've even posted to the jam for him to email on more than one occasion and he NEVER returns my emails. Maybe he could take a lesson in ethics from Mike Bahr.

    Hey folks-

I need some suggestions and I figured this is one of the best places for it since there are so many Rush fans on this list.

So anyways, I'm watching the video to "nobody's hero" today and my sister walks in. She says that she has heard me play this song in my room before and that she really likes it. Keep in mind that she comes from the MTV generation. She then says that she wants me to make her a tape of "nobody's hero" along with some other Rush tunes. What else can I put on the tape that you think she would like. I guess she's looking for songs similar to "nobody's hero." Please email me so that the jam will not get cluttered up. Thanks.

Not to mention international mail can screw one's delivery system up. I think you might chill on Marcel, jeez, it's not like he hasn't been busy writing and recording an album and touring it or anything. :P I've heard that he's actually good on his word, but it takes time. Anyway... you better tag and bag this one Marcel. :)
