Yeah, that could be it. ;-) I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which isn't much
bigger, and I laugh when people from the sticks here start going on about how
BIG a city it is. I used to live in Chicago, so to me it has to have 10 million
people to seem big - that's just me though, most people probably would consider
places like SLC and Minneapolis big.

Well, Pat, I can sympathize with you. I was part of the tape swap that was
organized back in September. I am still owed two of my three tapes from the
swap, and I can understand the frustration when you don't hear anything from
the people that owe you tapes for months.
Being part of the swap, I've been in a position where I promised to send tapes
to other people. It took me a while, but I eventually got it done. So, as
someone who has made tapes for other people (on and off the 'Jam), I would like
to point out that you missed one step to your logic.
0. Be in the same physical location as the tapes and tape decks.
It's really hard to copy tapes when you're never home.

I just heard "Christmas Eve / Sarajevo" on the radio up here in Minneapolis.
Pretty cool, since it's a station which is usually just classic rock and
blues-based newer stuff. They said it was by Savatage, from an album called
"Dead Winter Dead" - no mention of TSO.

Anybody know the story on these guys? I picked up
_Escape from Hollywood_ the other day along with some
stuff and I think they're great! I haven't had a chance
to sit down and digest (no pun intended) the entire CD,
but what I've listened to, I like. I'd been wanting to
pick up another one of their albums for a few years now
ever since I heard one of the songs on the radio, but
I've never gotten around to it. This was the only one
in their section, so I got it. Clean guitar playing,
rockin', and sometimes bluesy bordering on country, but
it's very tasteful (I don't care for country, but I like
this). Post *and/or* email, if possible, since I'm
unsubb'ing in a few hours because of a company shutdown,
and I won't be back for over a week and a half.
Thanks.

Attention Bassists!!!
Yes, John Myung does use D'Addario rounds... But he has an endorsement.
I've tried about twenty brands of bass strings in the past twenty months,
and out of all of them, I'm really digging on RotoSound Swing 66's. They
are the absolute shiznit (dizouble dizutch... hee hee, bizatch.)
No Kidding. If you are looking for a Doug Pinnick,
Hey-I'm-Using-A-Clawhammer-On-Piano-Strings sound, then grab a set and
you'll hear what i mean.
I have the shittiest bass on earth, with a couple of mods (Fender
Mexi-bass, with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders) and a great amp... The
Swings made a big difference... (the difference was this: I decided that
i didn't need to buy a new bass after all...)

For anyone upset about Tapestry not being available as advertized, I
would suggest joining the Fan Club *immediately*. Lets not out think
ourselves here.
1) DT puts Ronnie Scotts songs on Christmas CD #1.
2) DT strongly hints that future Christmas presents will be
forthcoming.
3) DT requests that Mike (aka Matt) Bahr not do the Tapestry project.
Draw your own conclusion.
And, Merry Christmas.

Subject: ACCIDENT AT METALLICA SHOW
Message-ID: <199612211845.KAA03222@lithuania.it.earthlink.net>
Hi!
Well, I went to the Metallica opening night in the Raisin capitol of the world;
Fresno, CA on 12/19. I had pre show access and got to meet Jason and Kirk;
but not James or Lars since they didn't come out. I got them to autograph my
Vinyl cover of LOAD and a ticket from the club only show in SF back in June.
It must've been a shitty day for them because they weren't very friendly.
They weren't rude, just really quiet and kind of short with people.
Korn was fine. If you like them then you'll like their set, if you don't
then the set won't change your mind any. This was the second time I've seen
them and they were about the same each time.
Metallica came on at 8:20 and played for :110 or so before the accident. The
show was in the round and Selland arena is REALLY small, so every seat was a
good seat (I had the equivalent of 5th row).
Now about the accident. During their first encore some FAT bastard in the
balcony got a
hold of the hose that held all of the lighting wiring and used it as a rope
to do his Tarzan impression and swing across the arena. Once he finally
stopped the security people tackled him like Dallas did Steve Young a few
weeks back. a few minutes later, ALL the lighting rigs started shorting out
and the bulbs started popping. One tech who was at the roof fell to the
stage, one guy dropped his rope ladder to get down from his lighting rig,
but either he was going too fast and fell and got his leg caught in the rope
about 3/4 of the way down, or he was electrocuted. The reason I think he was
electrocuted is because he was flapping around like he was having a seisure.
The EMT people got him down and the whole time he was spazzing on the stage
floor, it was a scary thing to see. I also heard a guy caught on fire too,
but the guy who was electrocuted happened right in front of me and I was so
shocked that I didn't see anything else really that was going on. Of course
a lot of people thought this was all part of the show, but just looking at
the band you could tell this was NOT planned. It was total and complete
fucking chaos!
After everything calmed down, they strung up a few light bulbs (the amps
were still working) and played two more songs.
Anyway, here's the setlist, the total time from when they came on to when
the lights came on was two hours, but the set could've been cut short
because of the problems.
so what / creeping death / sad but true / ain't my bitch / whiplash / king
nothing / one
wasting my hate / jason and kirk jamming / nothing else matters / until it
sleeps / for whom the bell tolls / wherever i may roam / fade to black /

The show overall was awesome and the lights when working properly are
awesome! I HIGHLY recommend going to see them. As you can tell they don't
play the new album to death, so all the anti - Load people will enjoy it too.
Merry Christmas!

Hola, kids.
So, i'm leafing through "A Show Of Fans" and there is an
interview with Geddy. I'm reading the intertview when it comes to this:
<btw, this is geddy talking>
"...there is something i'd like to address actually. and that's
this Trubute thing. Ah, it's come to my attention that there's all these
weird comments floating around. I'd just like to clarify something to
our fans. I think our view of this whole thing has been portrayed as
totally distorted. when we were asked, well, when we were told basically
that there was a tribute album being done, this was only brought to us
one time. And one time only, when they were making this album. We were
asked what our feelings were about it and there's really not much you can
say when someone decides to do a tribute album. That's nice if it's a
sincere tribute. That's very nice. But, we were then told the record
label that was releasing this tribute was kind of in the business of
doing tribute albums. Then we had concerns that this wasn't really going
to be a tribute but rather an exploitaion of our fans. That was our
concern. There was never any question of the musicians involved. We
didn't really know who was involved. For some reason, that concern over
our fans exploitation has been blown way out of proportion. Even to the
fact that there was some quote from our office that was totally erroneous
about tribute albums. It was basically out of control. So i'd just like
to clarify that to our fans, because i know there's a lot of weird
opinions floating around about what our attirute on this thing was. Our
attitude was very low key. We never had any intention of suing anybody.
Those things were all attributable to either over zealous representatives
of our band or over zealous gossip. you know what i mean? i just wanted
to clarify that. it's come up in a lot of interviews."
later in the interview he says:
"..well, i wanted to deal with that <the tribute album> because
from what i've read, it makes us sound totally inappreciative for the
musicians that have been involved in this record. And we are not
unappreciative of them in any way. it's not about their involvement.
It's not about the producers of the record. It was strictly a concern
that this was a record company that was looking out to make a few bucks
off the loyalty of our fans."
make your own conclusions. :)
