Victor Wooten is insane! The Flecktones are one of the best bands working
today, to be sure. Anyhow, Wooten was bassist of the year in the BP poll a
couple years back (three, I believe)...VICTOR Wooten, that is, not Future
Man. Bela Fleck isn't half-bad, either. And that bluegrazz/jazz/fusion
sound is really cool. Unique. If anyone's just getting into the band, I
think I'd probably recommend "Three Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest," though
some of the older records, back when they were a four-piece, are impressive,
as well.

Yeah, most Rush fans (or many, at least) are sympathetic to the Dream
Theater sound. Some fans, coming at it from a Classic Rock perspective,
don't really much care for Dream Theater, since the band isn't that closely
allied to a Classic Rock sound.
Clearly the band isn't a "Poor Man's Rush," unless you're talking about the
PAINFUL ticket prices on the Test For Echo Tour. Dream Theater and Rush has
similar sounds, surely, but there are many places where they're
different...the more aggressive edge of Dream Theater being perhaps the most
obvious. But every time this comes up, someone will fire off the ridiculous
notion that the two bands sound nothing alike, which ends up hurting the
credibility of the "Dream Theater as a unique band" argument.

Hi! I'm Keiji from Kyoto,Japan.
Bootlegs?
Yeah! Tons of bootlegs are available in Japan. I visited music shops where
we can buy boot-CD and video as well as regular CD.
"Uncovered" and live in Urawa (made from WOWOW--known as pay-per-view
video on this jam). But you better listen carefully before you buy
CD,because there're discs made from bootleg CD. Some discs are poor
quality.
Well,1993 US tour boot are available. I haven't bought it so I don't know
about it's sound quality.
I have ad of some bootstores here, let me read them.....
There's"Another Uncovered"!(1CD)(Dusserdorf? Wrong spelling? It's German
city.Feb.1995---air-play source) includes 'Damage.Inc' and 'Perfect
Stranger'
And Osaka'92 (2CD)--1st Japan tour.
There's another Osaka (1994) Awake tour.(2CD)
And boot videos...There's video that made from Mike's private video! Yes!
He loves bootleg. I can find boot video with his autograph on cover.
On line music shop?
Visit Gold http://gold-tokyo.com.
You can order from here. But it's expensive. Maybe they are most
expensive music store in Japan. So just check their list and order them
from somewhere else. It's better choice. It seems most of DT boot are made
in Japan. You know there's huge market of bootleg in Japan. I see guys from
foreign countries came here just for buying CD (regular Japan only discs
and boot).
Boot price?
1CD for 30US$ and 2CDs for 50 maybe 60 US$,but if that title wasn't sell
well,then we can get it around 5 to 10 US$. It's nice.
Anyway. I hope this message will help you.
A Happy new year! We have just another 19 and 3/4 hours this year.

Yes! It was released from JVC-Victor for celebrating their reunion tour
(March '95) in Japan. I love that album. I haven't bought 'Dysfunctional'
album yet, bacause I have 'Dokken' album (original version of
'Dysfunctional'),so I don't have enough money to pay just for another
mixing and 2 extra tracks. Well, acording to JVC,they release new album (yet
untitled) next year.
Well, does anybody have Dokken's 'Complete Beast From The East' album? I'd
like to know about it. It's worth buying?
Thanks.

I saw them in Charleston a few weeks ago, and they were truly amazing. Even

DT, BTW), really enjoyed it.

They describe their music, sort of jokingly, as "blu-bop". Make out of that
what you wish.

Yes, they are truly amazing. I've had a chance to see the band once, and
Vic Wooten do an amazing bass clinic last spring, and both experiences were
just jaw droppingly amazing! If that was your first taste, then I'd suggest
getting their new 2CD live album _Live Art_. Or, if you don't want to make
the 2CD investment, get either _Ufo Tofu_ or _Three Flew Over the Cuckoo's
Nest_, both are fantastic.
For a little more info, there is a new interview with Vic Wooten on Anil's
Innerviews web page, which you can access via my web page (URL below).

You lucky guy. I would really like to have seen both those bands.
I have one Bela Fleck and the Flecktones CD called "Ufo Tofu." It is
rather good. My brother has been showing me some of their other albums
like "flight of the cosmic hippo." I have not heard it much but I liked
what I heard. This group also came out with a double live album this year
and I have heard some tracks off that. That's a very cool CD. They are the
kind of band that does a different show every night (like DMB and Phish).
My brother saw them in concert about a month ago and told me that it was
the best concert he ever went to. And before seeing them he told me that
DT was the best band he had ever seen in concert.

I agree about Hetfield. Not so sure about Mustaine, who sings more nasally
and tends to kind of sneer things out more than anything else. He's got
attitude, but I don't really think of it as a heavy or aggressive voice, not
like a Glenn Danzig or James Hetfield. Exodus has the same problem. I'd
still take Mustaine over the contemporary Death vocalist sound, which just
doesn't appeal to me so much in large doses...with Cynic, it's not so bad,
'cause there's some variety.

Northfield's just got such a tremendous ear -- in that way, I feel he's like
Peter Collins (yeah, THAT'S a popular sentiment with Rush fans). I wouldn't
mind hearing him do the new record at all, especially since he's able to get
effective clarity out of sophisticated arrangements.

Ooh, Klank totally kills, man. For anyone who likes heavy industrial

Daren "Klank" Diolosa at the Cornerstone Fest this summer. Really
cool/nice guy. I also highly recommend anything by Circle of Dust
for some similat stuff (Diolosa used to do guitar for them). Hope
that helps. Oh, the album is called "Still Suffering." Cheers.

Well, the contest was to win one of the "JPM100" guitar, ie one of the
first line of production. As for being the actual guitar in the LiT
video, I don't believe that for a second. If YOU put out a live concert
video, did a lengthy tour, not to mention recorded 2 albums with a
particular guitar would YOU give it away?

Guitar Shops don't give a shit about autographs. For all they know you
signed it yourelf.
Well, the original John Petrucci guitar <ie, the one in the video> was an
Ibanez USA Custom with an RG body shape. It is a USA guitar, but since it
was a custom job, JP chose to eliminate the single coil pickup in the
middle, direct-mount the pickups to the body, and use an RG body instead
of the standard USA.
Basically, the guy has one of the first 1000 JPM100 guitars to come off
the assembly line.
If you want facts to back this up <or prove me wrong, if I am>, consult
the articles section on rsabbs DT web site. My info comes primarily from
Guitar Shop magazine, around the time of ACoS.
Take care!

heavy metalish riffs in a surf-rock type of structure. some of their

sad note, though, don cab broke up. however, i hear that Shale,

I just got on this list...and I must say it is awesome! I am shocked at how much you guys know on DT. Just by reading a few digests I think I doubled my DT knowledge. I just found out about DT the middle of this summer. Previously I had listened to Queensryche (probably the biggest factor in finding DT) and Van Halen (the first album of course, after that they just went downhill), Joe Satriani who is the coolest guy because we share a birthday, and finally Steve Vai, because I love technicallity and wierdness. I thought those last three guys were the best guitarists to walk the earth, and Queensryche was the best band. Then I got a recommendation to buy Dream Theater. I bought A Change Of Seasons...WOW! It totally changed the way I listened to music. I listened to the CD for about a whole week. I couldn't get over how fast Petrucci could play, or Labrie's soaring vocals, or how Portnoy could keep such a perfect beat, but leave you on the edge of your seat...I was also the first album I had with a keyboardist which was really awesome (Kevin Moore is definately my fav.). After that I've been buying every DT album that I can, along with other Prog rock (Fates Warning, Savatage, Rush, wanna get some Shadow Gallery and some Superior though, oh well, good things come with time and money). I just recently got LiT and I was stunned at how easily they could play such complicated stuff. So, I leave you with a toast. To Dream Theater, the best musicians ever to play together, and to all the ytsejammers, JAM ON!
Carpe Diem, my friends
*Can't wait for the new album. What is the name of it? anybody know?*
