    ANNOUNCEMENT 3 -- FEBRUARY 7

AX.COM is nearly ready for the switchover of this list, but the
software still hasn't been installed yet (Brian's been very
            busy).

To subscribe, send in your subscription request tomorrow night
after 10pm Pacific time. (The server might accept this before
            then, but no promises.)

            To subscribe to ytsejam, send:

            subscribe ytsejam Your Name

to ytsejam-request@ax.com with a subject of "asdf". You must
put something after the "ytsejam" or your request will be
denied by listproc (the name is used by the sysadmins in case
you have problems with your account--it is not given out unless
you specifically turn off your "conceal").

    CONCEAL
By default your subscription will be "concealed" (will not
show up if someone requests a copy of the subscriber list
from the server). If you would like your address to be
            visible, send:

            set ytsejam conceal no

to ytsejam-request@ax.com with a subject of "asdf". (Replace
the "no" with "yes" in the above to go back to concealed
            mode.)

    DIGEST VS ACK MODE
By default you will be subscribed in "digest" mode instead
of "ack" mode (in ack mode you get each message separately,
in digest mode they're bundled together). If you prefer ack
            mode, send:

            set ytsejam mail ack

to ytsejam-request@ax.com with a subject of "asdf". (Replace
the "ack" with "digest" to go back to digest mode.)

If anyone cares, I play DT for everyone I know up here in this little community where there are NO ONE who has an ear for talented music. First of all, I live in upstate NY, so there are obviously the country fans, and of course my school is overrun by rap and alternative. I can't seem to find anyone who doesn't like Green Day or Live or Better Than Ezra or something like that. But like I said, I play DT for everyone and most people are like "Its' pretty good", trying to hurt my feelings. Then one day a friend was at my house and Bevery Hills 90210 came on, and he said, "You know, this theme song sounds kinda like Innocence Faded" and I was like "Holy! You actually listened to Dream Theater?" and he was like "Yeah. I bought Awake". Today in gym, another friend I played DT for was saying something about "That Four Seasons albmum". Shes into all kinds of oldies and whatever so I figured she was talking about that 50 group. Then I realized she was talking about ACOS. she said it's on the way from the BMG club because she ordered it. I told her it was cool, but I also said that she should have got I&W first. I also have anothe rperson in my school and every time I have my walkman on, she rips it off my head and is like "Is this DREAM THEATER?!?!?!?!? YES!" later--------------Brian

Remeber when the Galactic Cowboys were playing their own version ofTTT on the bus on the LiT video? I was wondering if they had ever played it on recording? I would love to hear some other band play DT. Could you imagine what it would sound like if Queensryche played some DT amterial? THAT would be cool. later--------------Brian

Hey, My French class is planning a trip to Paris in April and I was wondering if there were any Jammers over there that want to hang out with a 16 year old Dream Theater fanatic. My French isn't that great yet, so I hope you speak English well. Also, anyone know of any cool bands playing Paris in April? later--------------Brian

Has anybody noticed the striking similarity between the intro riff of Voices(the one played by the bass and then doubled by the guitar) and the Monsters! theme in La Villa Strangiato by Rush... they're more or less the same thing, but w/ a totally different feel..

also on Voices, has anybody noticed that in the part after the second chorus when that guy Prixmo is talking, Kevin starts playing the theme from Erotomania on A.... cool...

well besides that I have 2 questions: you know in that part in The Crimson Sunset from ACOS, when James sings 'I sit down w/ my son set to see the Crimson Sunset...' and holds that note and overdubs something beneath that... what is he saying there.. they do it twice and I still can't figure out what he's saying..

also, does anyone know what those Japanes symbols on Kevin's keyboard stand mean?...are they just there for decoration, or are they one of thos strange Moore things? just wondering.. later ----------------------------------------- Guten Gott! > Is there anybody who heard about Dream Theater's members > taking drugs ? I've heard it few days ago and I just can't > believe it. Please, let me know if someone heard the same.

More importantly, tell us what drugs they're taking!! Then we can all do the same :). But seriously, why does it matter that someone said that they heard someone say that they heard that one of the guys in Dream Theater took a drug. Damn, I use that word all the time. Like I'm feeling lousy, I need some drugs. I mean that I need a Sudafed - which is a drug. Before we go spreading any rumours about DT taking drugs, let's step back and think about Dream Theater. They don't sing about drugs and never seem to advocate in any way taking drugs. If one of them did (and alcohol's a drug too) I don't see that it's anyone else's business and it certainly is not for us to judge nor spread rumours. Maybe we can drop this soon (after the inevitable discussion) so as not to spread this rumour further.

Oh. I have one. I heard that NO ONE in Dream Theater has EVER even inhaled a cigarette! Never mind any other drugs (that seems like a better rumour).

Just a quick note from a non-musically-degreed metalhead about the new CD which is now available from the European band Superior, which includes Ytsejam's Bernd Bassmer (sp?) on guitar. I was quite impressed with this disk. 10 songs and well over 50 minutes of music. Their sound, to me, could be said to be like a harder version of Shadow Gallery. However, they did include a few of those "boring quiet passages"........

In short, I would believe that at least 95% of Ytsejammers would be quite pleased with this disk and I recommend it highly. Jason Skewes (jskewes@why.net) had made some of these disks available in a previous post, but I do not know if he has any more. It is worth the search to find it.

This is for Ashley Wong, who asked here she can get DT shirts inthe UK. Go to a store called Metal Head. I think it's in Soho. I remember seeing one there. Also, this place does have some bootlegs, which they're prtty eager to get rid of. I managed to pick up a 2 disc Extreme boot for about $40. Unfortunately, I can't give you any more specific information (bad memory), but this should at least give you enough info for the operator. Later.

    Hi Jammers!

Yes! after "Lurking" for 4 full months I finally have a post :) I met some of you before the El 'N' Gees (1st show). Jason, can you email me Jens Johansson's email address? Well, I got an internet account right after Mike Bahr's Subconscious Cd Sold Out :( Oh Well. But I did get AD #121 & WDATU #33. Great jobs on both Discs. The cover on WDATU was very professional.

I'm trying to build my DT audio collection. I only have 6 shows and I'm waiting for 8 more on previous trades. I have a 1st generation copy of Dream Theater's Last Awake Show at the Strand, RI (8-3-95) recorded from a DAT player. My friend, who makes me copies of certain shows I request (I supply the tapes), recorded the show on his DAT. I haven't seen this show on people's lists so, I like to trade my only show that I believe many you do not have for some DT boots (2 tapes).

If you are interested in trading for this show, Please email me private with the Subject: "Last Awake Trade" with which shows you have to trade.

Thanx! Hope to hear from you all soon! -Joe- joecr@ici.net

Well, at least 'ax.com' is a lot easier to type than 'arastar.com', but it's going to be a pain having to type 'metropolis'. Couldn't it be 'eve@ax.com', Ken? [I really like "Eve" but I feel that "Metropolis" is more typical of their output (and is one of my fave songs :) --kbibb]

At least we should all be thankful it's not 'The.Ones.Who.Help.To.Set.The.Sun@ax.com' :-) [Or "A.Change.of.Seasons.(1.The.Crimson.Sunrise.2.Innocence...@ax.com")]

One more thing: could someone remind me what the mystery track on Subcon is?

After being gone from the list for about a year, it sure is nice to be connected with the latest news on DT.

I read a while ago in Metal Edge magazine that Fates was working on a new album, that was going to consist of one continuous song. Has there been any more word on this? Also, is there any more word on a replacement for Frank Aresti? Last I heard, they were going to record the new album with Matheos doing all the guitar work, and then find a second guitarist. My vote would be for Jeff Waters, if he's available. :)

I would just like to let everyone know that I have finished putting together a windows based help file all about dream theater. I have included all of the information I could find. It acts as a one stop place for all of DT's lyrics, faq, band info, and history. If you would like to download it, visit my homepage at:

    http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/jbryer/ (email: jbryer@interserv.com)

This will take you to my homepage, follow the "my dream theater page" link on that page to go to the download site. I also have a Victor help file for all you Rush and Alex Lifeson fans. That is on my Rush page. Feel free to download them, I hope you enjoy their usefullness as much as I enjoyed making them.

Hey jammers! I was at a record and CD convention today and I saw some cool stuff. One was something called "Home Sweet Home" I don't know anything about it because there was no date or location on it, but I assume it a Long Island Show. I wanted it because it had Status Seeker and OAMOT, but I didn't get it because my WDATU should be coming any day now and if that's where Mike got SS from, I didn't want it that much. I also saw a guy selling videos for $20 each (same guy I got the Japan ppv from 6 long months ago). I got a Toronto video from 93 (not sure of the date because its in the VCR and I don't want to take it out :) anyway, he also had a San Fransisco 12/94 that I want to know info about and some cool Ryche and Life Of Agony videos that I couldn't afford to buy. He said he was a big DT fan and I asked him if he had the December shows yet and he said he didn't even know about them. He said he would trade with me if I could get these or any other DT vidoes. I am interested in getting any vidoes other than the two I already have. I will trade for possibly 2 audios on my list for a vidoe, and if I have nothing you want, I'll send $ for a blank and postage. later--------------Brian

To the person who was wondering about The Mirror on Live In Tokyo

I'm writing for the first time so I may not be sending this to the right place but I can answer to this person named "matt"

The answer is "no". I don't think he was. I saw the Tokyo show twice but I didn't see him using it.

Then how was he doing the song, "The Mirror"? He was playing the song without using the 7th string. If you are a guitar player, the first power chord that John is playing (which is the B chord) is done by the 5th and the 6th string on the second fret. Since I've never learned guitar in English, I can't quite explain it but the bottom line is that he is not using a 7-string.

By the way, to all the Dream Theater copiers; don't look at those tablatures on the Dream Theater Homepages. They are totally wrong and I don't have any intention to insult anyone but whoever did that has no musical sense.

I'd rather trade these copies for DT stuff, but if you don't have nothing to trade, that's cool. I will still make copies for you if you send me one 90 min. tape and enough to cover s&h. But if you don't have $ for s&h, I'll pay for it.
