    Hello out there!

I was wondering if any of you guys and girls could help me out with this
one. On the cover of ACOS, DT mention that they were able bo work with a
number of other mucisians in connection with the Ronnie Scotts gig. One
of them was Barney Greenway of Napalm Death. Do you know if they actually
did work together? And if they did: what?, how?, is it available
    anywhere? etc?

I find it good to read (the Paradise Lost thread) that others here at the
jam also are into heavier stuff. For me, DT and various Death metal
competes for time on my CD player. Anyone interested in learning more
about that kind of music, drop me a note.

On the Jam there has been several threads with "How's about DT playing a
Maiden cover" etc. Well, my wish would be to hear them do a really fast,
grinding death-metal song together with a good death metal vocalist (much
as i love LaBrie's vocals, I don't think he'd pull it off.) What a kick
    that could've been!

Anyways, this was my first post after a considerable time in lurking
mode, so I might end it with a big Hello to everybody.

    Subject: Why rerelease WDADU
    Message-ID: <199602152011.MAA13530@mindcrime.ax.com>

Hey all, my first post to the new site!

Someone asked why DT is bothering to rerelease WDADU since it is available as
an import. Let me offer my opinion.

I am lucky enough to live in a college town with two decent CD store that have
a pretty good import section. I found WDADU for about $20, and have loved it.
But when I go home, and check out the mall stores, I notice that their import
sections are pretty bad, and often limited to really big names, which DT
    isn't, yet. :)

Therefore I am sure there are places where it is a real bitch to find import
CDs without using mail order, which can get rather expensive. So it would
make sense for DT to release WDADU domestically, and make it available to
fans without access to great import collections. In the end, it probably
means more fans will buy the album, DT will make more money, and their
record company will be happier. And that's pretty much what we want, right?

    Just my $.02. Comments?

Does anyone know what Steve Morse is doing now?
Do Dixie Dregs still exist? What's their good albums?
Also, the new Iron Maiden album is mediocre and doesn't
compare with "7th son" or "Number of the beast".
Paradise Lost become a bit too indie and commercially sounding
after "Icon" but they are still an excellent band.

Hello... just thought I'd like to post on the new jam, even though I don't
    have absolutely nothing to say.

I agree w/ the guy who said that we should try to 'moderate' this list
ourselves, I mean what's such a long post about Maiden doing here? If
you're gonna be flaming people do it personally, oh well, just a thought...
BTW, the new Maiden is actually very cool, you just have to be able to
ignore the fact that Blaze can't sing worth a damn....

    Yo, homies.

OK, a while back, my funky little brother, who recently became a Dream
Thespian, was busy making the rounds at his high school out there in
Dallas, doing his best to convert the masses over to the DT cult (and he
succeeded in several cases, he tells me), evoking such responses as "THIS
IS THE BEST MUSIC I HAVE EVER HEARD" and "THESE GUYS ARE GODS"-- but I hear
    that every day right here.

One response, though, I don't hear too much. He was playing DT while in
art class, and some girl was checking out the tunes, and when she saw the
CD booklet's picture of the band, she gasped, "I WANT JAMES LABRIE." My
brother scored with this girl that very night.

At least that's what he said. ;)

My roundabout point is, I'd never really thought about the fact that the
Boys might be seen as sex symbols, like most rock stars are, you know, like
your Eddie Vedders or your Anthony Kiedis's or your Trent Reznors; or like
all of Led Zeppelin or Aerosmith (when they were young) or GN'R. As long
as there've been bands, there've been groupies.

And I was wondering if any of the women on the 'jam, if they're still out
there, ever viewed the Boys that way. The fact that some of the guys in DT
are attached is inconsequential. (I remember Cherone Frankel saying that
Petrucci's solos made her approach orgasm, but that's not the same thing, I
don't think.) Or do you think that DT qualifies as being above that sort
of thing? Wrong category of rock music, maybe? It's not like it's real
easy to pick up girls by mentioning DT-- although if you can, you're
certainly a new breed of Mack Daddy ("Hey baby, you feel like a little
Erotomania?" "Pull me under, baby." "No? How about a Mercy Fuck?").

    Cliff's Notes version:
Women: do you see anyone DT as sexy?
Men: have you ever encountered DT-lust in women?

(I believe it's still legal to talk about this stuff, and the boundaries of
good taste hasn't historically proven to be much of a barrier here on the
list... but I have one caveat: Beware of telling us More Than We Want To
    Know.)

If this thread goes nowhere, I'm blaming my brother.

    Just another impartial observer,

    Scott.

Hey, does anybody else out there have Rush's Grace Under Pressure video? I got a while back on laserdisc real cheap. Anybody? Please respond to me personally.

Also, to all of you who were savvy enough to get on Brian Cox's dubbing tree- you did a good thing. The 12/29 show sounds REALLY good, and, as many of you already know, the guys played very well. Speaking as someone who made dubs for others- please be patient with those above you, it takes a while to dub a two- and-a-half hour show, about two-and-a half hours per show I think, but my math ain't dat good. :^)

    hello all,

i'm good w/ faces and topics but bad w/names and spelling. so hold on. i totaly agree with the guy who flamed the negative post on maiden. i have loved their music longer than i've even know about dt.

about a week ago someone made a coment about johnp and improv. improv. is one of the greatest forms of art and music there is PERIOD. he said that he liked johnp nice tight thought out solos, but i wonder of he has ever saw or heard him play live. there are numerous acasions that i have hears him improve live. what makes the difference between john someone like kirt hammet (besides the lack of wah abuse) is the fact that when he improves, it is over a chord prog. and not just in key. his pitch axes changes and moves with each chord. if you lissen to his playing alot you will notice that there are certain stock phrases that he will use(these are defenatly his licks but they are used in and out of context throughout his playing). but as i said it is his skill in following a progression that hides the fact that he is winging it form the unknowing lissener, that and the fact that he takes advantage of the entire fingerboard instead of staying in ond position.

to the guy who trans. wait for sleep. you are going to shair the new keven moore stuf? right:) hint hint....

I love Extreme. I have everything they've ever put out and III Sides is easily their best. I was really disappointed with Waiting For The Punchline though. Their new drummer Mike is incredible (same league as Portnoy, though Portnoy still reigns as king). There next album should be better. Right now I'm waiting for Nuno's solo album, which should be out within the next couple of months. Saigon Kick rocks also. These guys are so versatile. You never know what the next song is going to sound like. Their new one Devil In The Details is their best so far, IMHO. Since you asked......

Well, your VCR point is probably valid, but 95% of rock music fans are not exclusively guitarists. There are bassists, drummers, horn players, keyboardists, etc. I also think that while QR's label probably considers the CD-Rom for the "rock music market", QR themselves feel it's for the fans. As far as 4 years between albums, you have to take into account the touring for Empire, namely the "Building Empires" tour. I don't know exactly how long it was, I'm assuming it was more than a year. Also, QR released "Operation: LIVEcrime", although it wasn't a "studio" release, it was a release nontheless. I'll wait an eternity for a new album: Promised Land was well worth the wait, especially the live show. What seemed like an eternity between Metallica's ...And Justice For All and the Black album was worth the wait. I'm sure Metallica's forthcoming album will be worth the wait of 5 years. Personally, I don't care for ACOS that much. The title track is great, but the covers are straightforward and unadventurous (maybe even boring?). I'll take twenty-three minutes of the intro to "The Mirror", "Caught In A Web" back-to-back as Bafu Vai once suggested, or twenty-three minutes of the elephant/train keyboard sound that Derek makes toward the end of ACOS, which I like to call "Hellhound On My Trail II" BTW, over covers any day. It is obvious that Graham and I don't see eye to eye about QR's CD-Rom. Now that Living Colour is no more, Queensryche has become my favorite band. Other artists have also released CD-Roms: Cranberries, Sting, and B.B. King. Don't mess with the ambassador of the blues (B.B.), though, or I'll get really mad! Graham and I can agree to disagree. You say potatoe, I say potato...you say "arse", I say @$$.

    Sincerely,

    G. Jack Thetgyi
