Last September or so, I went to a local club here in Tucson and checked =
out the Little River Band. They were pretty cool, <disclaimer> though =
you wouldn't ever catch me buying any of their CD's (the concert tickets =
were cheap -- when tickets are cheap, I'll see just about anyone). =
Anyway, when I bought ACOS not too long after that, I noticed the =
picture of Derek Sherinian (the same moment I learned of KM's departure =
from the band) and he looked exactly like the guy playing keys for the =
Little River Band. I couldn't remember the guys name, but it was an =
astonishing likeness. I know that Derek has played with Alice Cooper and =
others, but no one has mentioned him playing with the LRB. Is this just =
an oversight, or is that guy just a completely different person?

Also, I've heard rumors that the Galactic Cowboys are coming through =
Tucson next month sometime -- here's another band that I've never heard =
and probably should (thanks to John in San Diego, I finally heard some =
    Fates Warning -- good stuff). I've been a huge King's X fan for a long =
time, and I kept hearing them say that the Galactic Cowboys were one of =
their favorite bands and they toured together quite frequently. I just =
never have gotten into them. Not out of hesitation or lack of interest =
-- you just don't see very many GC discs lying around. Are they a pretty =
good live band? How would their music be described or which other band =
could you compare it to? Believe it or not, Shadow Gallery and Echylon =
are new names to me, too. If anyone could give me some info on these =
bands via E-mail, I'd appreciate it.

Steve Young (no, not the SF QB!!!)

    Hello,
I'm the italian guy who said his personal opinion about Iron Maiden's
    "X-factor",the new album. I've noticed that a person,Mr.Mark
Shits..uh..Smeets posted a message telling some exotic things about me and
    my,personal of course,opinions.
I wonder there is still in 1996 some person that are ready to insult someone
just because he has a different opinion; this attitude really takes social
violence due to intransigence and stupidity of a few out-of-society persons.
Jammers, that one offended me just because I've made a grammar mistake, but
I'm Italian and,of course, my mother tongue is Italian not English! This is
    real --racism--!!!
I really invite the Ytsejam owner to exclude him from the Jam for always cos
these people are exactly opposite to the Ytsejam principles and very very
    close minded.
Even if he won't be excluded from the jam the words he said (listed below)
are an example of being a close-minded person and a real racist (he's really
a fascist, we Italians are very experienced about fascism...sad but true!)

    >-But the real new thing is the new vocalist, Mr.
    >-Blaze Bayley, who is many times greatly
    >tone-deaf.
SMEETS>If blaze was tone deaf, I don't think Steve would
SMEETS>have picked him to be the new singer, maybe your
    SMEETS>the tone deaf one?

People, listen "X-factor". In some songs, like "Look for the truth" "Fortunes
of war" "Man on the edge" "Lord of the flies" Blaze Bayley goes almost
always out of tone in an extremely clear way. Surely mr.Sheets..ehm.Smeets
doesn't know anything about musicality and tone.
    ---------
    >- but Steve Harris told him to clone Bruce's style. (.....)
    >-Bruce he goes out of tone. But
    >-the main problem of "X-factor" (the X means
    >-Blaze,Steve Harris said) is the
    >-cheap song quality.
SMEETS>What drugs are you on you fool? Blaze was never
SMEETS>MEANT to be a fill in for Bruce, he was the man
SMEETS>REPLACING Bruce..BIG difference. How can he
SMEETS>clone Bruce if his voice range is totally different?

It is really evident that Blaze Bayley has modified his singing style when
into Iron Maiden. The Iron's music is really different to what Blaze played
with Wolfsbane, that were much more close to rock'n'roll than Maiden. So
Blaze, who played in a Motorhead's Lemmy-like style when in Wolfsbane, now
sings evidently in Bruce Dickinson's style (people, listen to "the sign of
the cross" and see that I'm not telling lies).
Mr.Smeets tells that Blaze's voice range is different.Well I have to admit
that this is true, just because Blaze has a ridicolous vocal extension and
plays every song one or two tones under (obviously excepts new songs that
    were written for him).
    ---------------
    >-then there are two songs, "Thy
    >-Lord of the flies" and "man on the edge", that are
    >-nothing more than pretty.
SMEETS>You are truly fucked up. It's "Lord of the Flies" If
SMEETS>you had the cd you'd actually know that. As for
SMEETS>these insert into the powerslave era...your truly
SMEETS>losing it, how drunk are you at this point?

    ----------------
    >-The track in which Mr.Bayley goes more out of
    >-tone is "Look for the truth"
    >-(intro part, I never listened anything like it!!) and
    >-the best-singed song is
    >-"the sign...", really ok (except a pair of faults).
SMEETS>You just said that Look for the truth is good...you
    SMEETS>are truly stupid.

Sadly the things go really bad. Mr.Smeets can't realize what he says and his
mind gets really confused. Everyone (even my dog) can understand that I
could like a song even if it's played out of tone...(Alice
    Cooper,Mr.Out-of-Tone,is one of my favourites).
    ------------------
    SMEETS>That's best "sung" song.

Racism, really racism. I challenge you,Mr.Smeets,to reply me on the Jam in
correct Italian language!! How can you be so racist to accuse me of some
mistakes when I think I'm writing in English in an acceptable way.
So Mr.Smeets,I tell you "Priend e port' a casa piezz'e fetiente".
    -------------------
    >-When I have gone to the show, the band looked
    >-really better,specially
    >-Mr.Bayley,who sung in an acceptable way the
    >-new stuff, but really destroyed
    >-the all-time Maiden Hits specially "Hallowed.."
    >-and "Heaven can Wait" (does
    >-anyone said that this is a classic??)
SMEETS>I Highly doubt you went to the concert you idiot.
SMEETS>They haven't come your way yet, god you are so
    SMEETS>stupid.

And here's my ticket...How can you speak to me that way when I've just
    expressed my honest opinion?
    --------------------
    >-1) Mr.Steve Harris must try something different
    >-in songwriting or go home
SMEETS>Harris is Brilliant, this is where you get into
SMEETS>opinion...the rest you wrote was bullshit and just a
    SMEETS>drunk cry for help.

I think that Steve Harris has written,in the last 3 albums, very mediocre
songs that put dust on Iron Maiden's name.
    ---------------------
    >-) Mr.Gers must get out from Iron Maiden and
    >-specially HE SHOULD NOT COMPOSE ANYMORE. He is a cheap player (his rythm
    >-playing on stage is irritating) and a bad composer.
SMEETS>Actually, listen to Bruce's Tattooed Millionaire cd,
SMEETS>Jannick is suprisingly good on it.

...even Bruce has kept distance from tattoed millionaire.....
    ---------------------
    >-3) If the Irons want to change their musical
    >-style,they have to change the
    >- drummer (even the Ac-dc may refuse
    >-Mr.McBrain).
SMEETS>You are SOOOOO stupid. Even "the Ac-dc" gosh
SMEETS>dude, I always thought it said "Ac/Dc" on their
    SMEETS>records.

No comment..He's near to mental collapse.
    ---------------------
    >-4) and finally..if Irons intend to make another
    >-album like X-factor,i
    >- suggest them to go home without destroying a
    >-legend like Iron Maiden.
SMEETS>Its idiots like you that destry Maiden, get a life and
SMEETS>get lost. You have no clue what your talking about
SMEETS>and probably don't even know the name of the
    SMEETS>other guitarist in Maiden.

Surely,I think he has bought the last 3 Iron Maiden albums only....
    -----------------------
    >-I hope that your doubts are cleared and I wait for
    >-your opinions.
SMEETS>My doubts are clear, clear that your an idiot.

"cafone, fetiente, sciem, papusciaro" is what I can say now. For the rest,no
    comment.

I'm very sad that there are some DT fan so stupid, racist and fascist.

This is my first post here and i am very happy to join
this kind of mailing list. Thanks to Mkizer for encouraging
    me to subscribe Ytsejam.
Anyway i am a drummer here in Turkiye trying to play
DT but as you know it is very hard to figure out what Portnoy
playing. I gave my last three years to learn AGAIN how
to play drums as Portnoy does.
Talking about Iron Maiden. IMHO after Bruce Dickinson
left the band, Iron Maiden SUCKS!!. BTW who the hell is
that vocalist that acts like a gorilla???

    ----------------------------------
Well, new album is going to be different from both Awake and I&W. Derek
Sherinian, in an interview available on the Jam,said that the new album will
be a bit less heavy and dark than Awake and much more progressive. This
means,I suppose, that they will compose in a ACoS-like style, and that makes
me very optimistic for the final platter. So you can wait happy now.
For the solos question, JP always makes long-thought solos with a little bit
of improvisation, due to his master skill and technique and,of course,
    extraordinaire level of music knowledge.
For Metropolis Pt.2 I don't know anthing exact about it. Once (during the
I&W world tour) I've read an interview with Kevin Moore, who said that DT
composed Metropolis Pt.2 during I&W sessions, but it was too long to be
included in the album. He also said that M.pt2 should be released in future
times. This is what KM said.
About your question about Raise the knife,I don't know. Maybe this title is
caused by some confused rumors 'cos when some bands are in studio always
appear many strange voices...remember that when Metallica worked on Black
Album there were some voices telling that the album title was 'Ode to Metal'
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (argh!)
And when Iron Maiden were in studio recording X-factor, someone said that
new album's title was "Sob Stories" !!!!!!!!!!!!! (aaargh!!)
So wait for the new album to come and ignore that rumors!!!
    Bye=20

I'm normally a "lurker" but I thought the new Jam was a sufficient
reason to send one of my rare posts. Just like to say "Hello" to every UK
Jammer on the list,(lets hope they decide to tour here!) and say thanks
to everyone on the list for providing an invaluable and amusing read
    every morning.

            All the best

Hello everyone, it's BABS again. Wanted to comment on a couple other
    things as well:

    >I wrote that. If you're really confused, ask me about it.
    >The name's Ben....Ytse Ben.

No confusion at all Ytse Ben. I think that anyone who has been through it
    can identify with it.

    >I'm listening to the Malibu show from the Christmas shows right now and at
    >this moment DT is playing the instrumental meledy.

Now wait a minutes here, have I been dreaming or are you telling us that
you have a boot of this show Heath? Did you bring enough to share with
the rest of the class (giggle)?

RE: DT members as sex objects.

Ok, I confess. It's James, it's always been James for me. Unfortunately,
he taken (tears rolling down my cheeks as I type this) I had to come
forward with this confession because there are too many people on this list
that I correspond with that can blackmail me...

i promise: I'll be brief (sha!)

I heard that Echolyn has broken up. Why, i don't know, but rumor
around Philly is that they have. (all bow their heads in silence). If you
haven't picked up _As The World_, i advise you do so. It's one of the
best recordings this decade by -ANY- band.

Is it me, or is -Take The Time- the one recording you'll play for
someone who's never listened to Dream Theater? I mean, it's the classic
song: neat lyrics, james screamin', kevin/john jammin', mike doing his
animal impression...it just all fits. Speaking of "fitting", it seems
that Pull Me Under is unlike the rest of the album: It's more metalish,
and kevin's keys are way down in the mix. I have a friend who bought I&W
for _Pull Me Under_, and hated the disk for that reason.

Another band who's done this is the -Foo Fighters-. Don't get me
wrong, i like the album, but _This Is A Call_ is different from the rest
of the album. Anyway, i just noticed that, and i wanted your opinions on
    it.

Ok: Quiz Time. Please, send all requests to me. The ballots will
go through St. Patrick's Day, so vote early@! (once only, please):

If you could pick a "Best Of Dream Theater" CD, and had 77
minutes for it (most CD's are around 77, so let's work with that), what
songs would you pick? Would they be live? Bahrisms? Neat_ass studio cuts?

            May the voting begin.

    Syrinx <--that's the kbibb'ed sig.

    'jammers,

True, the first and third (EP) echolyn albums are VERY tough to get. Only
2000 and 1000 copies were made, respectively. However, "Suffocating the
Bloom" (2nd album) is still available through Syn-Phonic, a great prog mail
    order operation in California.

The Deep Purple lyric is not "A thousand lawyers I have found," it's "A
thousand oceans I have flown." Great song.

Last I heard - Steve morse was recording with Deep Purple, since Blackmore
    left to reform Rainbow.

Deep Purple is supposed to be releasing a new album called 'Purpledicular'
or something like that very soon.
