Hi all guitar jammers...I just wanted to say that I figured out AFIL on
guitar... the whole thing i must proudly say:)... anyways, I already saw a
nother one somewhere on the net, butit was slightly inaccurate... I can
assure my transcription is pretty accurate.. I spent a lot of time going
through the LiT video in slow motion (especially that sweeping part)...
anyways, if anybody is interested in getting this tab, send me an e-mail, if
I get enough people replying I'll eventually go throuhh the pain of typing
it out and sending to someone w/ a DT home page to put it there, or maybe
I'll just put iton the jam ..(it isn't moderated anymore:)

When I heard from the drunken Mike that DT may play with Rush, I believe
a tear fell down my cheek. This possibility is UNBELIEVEABLE! I really
can't think of anything I'd like better. How great would it be to see DT
in a larger venue, with Rush there too! Please, someone confirm this, or
say that they know it may happen.

Just wanted to say hi to ArchFates, what's up?

Okay....Enchant. I haven't read too much about these guys on the jam
yet, but they are absolutely GREAT!!! A Blueprint Of The World is so
good. The first track "The Thirst" has to be one of the best songs by
anybody, and the drummer is awesome. Anybody who enjoys Rush should get
this album, as the drummer displays Neil and Mike like qualities! GET
    ENCHANT!!!

The Booze Crew post was hilarious!

The title says it all people!!!!

Being that this was my first time seeing Maiden. I've been into em
since '89 but couldnt see them cause the show was on a school night or
some stupid shit like that. ANYWAY.....Maiden totally kicked ass in
NYC!!!!!!! Blaze totally impressed the hell out of me (also a nice
touch when he mentioned how diehard fans like us could sellout the
venue in a blizzard without the support of radio or TV airplay!) ..much
better than the album and a GREAT frontman..pointed to me in the front
row of the upper balcony and I made this psychotic face while pumping
my hands and he gave me a thumbs up..COOL!!!!
Was it me but did Nicko add tons of double bass here and there along
wwith awesome ride patterns I've never noticed...everything was so
crisp live.....Nicko never sounded so good...totally blew my ass away.
Especially when he added all that double bass to the last half of "Iron
    Maiden"...FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dave and Steve were on top of everything...totally clean playing with
great chops..Steve's little intro solo was amazing (seemed faster
too...and NO PICK!) Didnt notice Janick's playing too much cause he
went a little overboard with the stage antics..but hey..its Maiden and
    there's no stopping em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All I have to say is DO NOT MISS THIS TOUR......show your support so
these dumbass promoters will allow them to play bigger venues so we can
    have a visit from Eddie!!!!

    cheers,
      Carlo

What if I'm perfectly sober and I still want to post? Would that be all right with everybody?

    :)

Well, now that I have finally posted to "the new list," I guess I should pass along some information to you all. Well, y'all know how Kevin Moore is working with Mark Zonder out in LA doing demos (or was back in January, anyway...)? Well, do y'all want to know who was doing the guitar for them? Mark Snyder. Ring any bells? Yup, he's the guy who builds all the slick racks for the big-time guitar players, and he tends to do JP's tech quite a bit. I'll talk to my source and try to find out about tapes....

    Until next time,

    (undoubtedly sober -- sorry)

    Brian

ps- To the guy wondering about the quote from the old ACoS -- I'm listening to it right now, and I can't even make out as much as you did!! Well done!

pps- Have you all tried Minute Maid's Orange Passion Guava? It's darn tasty. Sometimes that's all a beverage needs to be, IMHO.

    Hi everyone!

Contrary to the usual habits I've been following, I'm cold sober as I type this. Further sobering was the pleasant swim in the pool I just finished with. I tell ya, it's getting to be a furnace around here in Sand Warrior Land... time to bust out the Stillsuits for another summer. My apologies to everyone north of snow latitude. :)

I'm gonna pull a Bafu (there's your reference) because so many posts caught my attention this time..

    > YTSEJAM Digest 1267 > Today's Topics: > From: Archfates@aol.com > Subject: fill in the blanks > > If anyone has the pre-IAW tape with Labrie / ACOS, or if your > a Sterling fan; Children of yesterday aires of tommorow what do > you reap ____ in sorrow,_______ faster and faster_____ prepared > by the master. Could someone please fill in the blanks, this sounds > trivial, but it's driving me nuts and my tape deck is getting tired.

Not many people have this tape (in fact, nearly nobody does) but for the benefit of the Jam, that song from that tape _IS_ included on Antiquities! (as well as Don't Look Past Me with James at the vocals, which I know has been highly-coveted for a long time... it rocks!) This was less of a reply and more of a "public service announcement". I _THINK_ the quote goes: "Children of yesterday, heirs of tomorrow, for what do you reap your yield in sorrow..." ...but I can't figure out the rest of it either. Obscured sonically by the instruments, it is.

I think most of you on the Jam will really like Mike Portnoy's original soundbites from the pre-IAW ACOS on AQ. Some of them are hauntingly appropriate, like one at the end. > From: "RESPONSE at IBMMAIL 02/17/96 - 20:10:22" <response@ibmmail.com> > Subject: Mail Item Format Warning > > The mail item that you sent at 20:10:54 GMT on 17 Feb 1996 has been delivered. > > However, it has been necessary to convert this item into a > format that is acceptable to the recipient, FITIPMOL at IBMMAIL. > Information beyond column 79 in the mail item will have been wrapped.

Dangit, this guy's gonna beat me AND Bafu for most Jam posts ever!

I was thinking in clarity when I posted that. :) I actually had known it beforehand, but I remembered to post it to the Jam after talking about it that day. Ged and Alex dig DT and Alex said in an interview that he'd tour with them. All of DT wants to tour with Rush. however it might be premature for their managements to outline tour agendae... that's what remains to be seen.

Wow! I'm less curious about the selling price than I am to know if anyone actually kept spare copies of these!! It seems like everyone ordered for themselves and nothing else! :)

Which reminds me: Brian Anderson, e-mail me or Masayuki Daigo as soon as you can. We've found you a spare copy of Acoustic Dreams to replace the one that was stolen from you, but we need to arrange the shipping for it.

    > and mike bahr, jeez! that's 2 for you! but i must say i like that 3 wise men > thing. i gotta try that someday.

It was heavy stuff. I prefer Gingerbread Man, Vibrating Pussy, Colorado Bulldog, Long Island Iced Tea, or White Russian before the 3WM, but the 3WM will get you drunk faster and more thoroughly. :)

(those of you with a plethora of alcohol in your cabinet who are dying to try these with a friend may feel free to e-mail me for the recipe, if you can't find anyone that knows it locally.)

    > i tried drinking saki with my apartmentmate last week, and i almost died!

YES YES YES!! (think Beavis & Butthead when "I'm Broken" went on)

    > Take a sip if... > > someone > someone asks how to get Acoustic Dreams

You'd be surprised; people still ask me if Subconscious is available, and "is it shipping yet?" It's pretty freaky! :)

    > one of the foreign 'jammers totally butchers the English language

Usually it's the _domestic_ Jammers who are making a mockery of the King's English... those who have learned it as a second language usually do remarkably well, I find. Hell of a lot better than I do at their language! :) I can read and write Japanese at around a 2nd-grade level after studying it for a year, and yet those smart Japanese 'Jammers can understand everything I say, slang included... ah well.

    > Mike Bahr imparts some Timeless Wisdom > Mike Bahr provides some handy cocktail recipes > Mike Bahr tells a joke (2 gulps if it's racist)

Hey, I haven't told a racist joke in almost a week, so I guess the gay eskimo lesbian contingent is getting antsy again. :)

Here's a non-racist joke that really hit the spot... What are two words that can clear out a men's room in ten seconds, even at a football stadium at halftime? "Nice Dick!" > you can't fucking stand those little smileys

    :)

    > Chug your entire drink if... > any romances develop on the 'jam

Hell, if polygamy was legal, I'd marry Jenn, Charone, Anna, Kaoru, Jenniebear, Rachel, Rebecca, AND Jaime the Dragon! :) I'd probably never get anything done, I'd be too busy spending quality time listening to CDs with my wives. (I think there are about six or seven more female Ytsejammers that I'd be happy to invite as well, I just can't remember just now at 3:31 AM.) Now this is assuming they can all either tolerate my general slovenliness and arrogance, or, God willing, that the mystique of being a CD-Man and playing bass in a prog band are enough to mask my less admirable qualities. :)

    > you can correctly spell "Borzilleri," "Battaglia," and "Balkiewicz" (2 > chugs if you can pronounce them too)

Heck, I'd be happy if most people could pronounce "Bahr"! :) Then again, all the NFL football fans seem to get it right, and most of the foreign Jammers also get it right. It's the lazy Easterners... that's it!

    > you gave up in junior high the things that Mike Bahr now collects

THIS had me rolling!! YES!! heheh. Hey, Star Wars is timeless. Everything else is temporary. Luminescent beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the force flowing around you and through you! Size matters not. Judge me by my size, do you?

    > someone actually puts forth the effort to write "Dream Theater" instead > of "DT"

    What's this about DT again?

    > you get the feeling that some 'jammers are blowing their family fortunes > on guitar gear

And chug another when you find out most of them have spent the rest of their money on Magic cards, music memorabilia (DT and Rush specifically) and at pubs.

    > Mike Bahr sounds like your dad (start two-fisting if he IS your dad)

As far as I know, the only illegitimate children I've had were by non-Jammers, but they might be listening anyway. I remember at least three sons, named Neil, Alex, and Geddy. :)

    > any marriages develop on the 'jam

Which reminds me - "Giving freely wandering promises, a place with decisions i'll fashon, I wont waste another breath", well actually, I will because I don't give a shit, go on, I dare you, flame me if you want, cos I'll just laugh in your face. Hello everybody!

I am another Extreme fan, and this is mainly because I think they can be defined as "progressive" (IMHO). III Sides to every story is one of the albums I like more, and some of the songs can be seen as prog, in different ways: in Cupid's dead and Peacemaker Die there are tempo changes, Stop the World has interesting harmonies, and the songs are quite different one to another (even if their style remains... did you extreme fans notice that parts of Stop the World are VERY similar to others in Song for Love (from Pornograffitti)? And the final song, Everything under the sun, is a real masterpiece, which shows Nuno's ability also as a songwriter. Instead, I really don't like Waiting for the Punchline: of course it's another musical face of the band, but not very original; and the songs are too similar one to another.

I also think Queen can be seen as progressive, in some ways (listen to some songs on Innuendo...). Also MP in an interview stated Queen was one of the first progressive bands.

But of course it depends on what you mean by "progressive" (but I don't wanna bother anyone more with this...)

One final thing about the Maiden argue... I'm Italian, too, and I don't think that response was racist. But I have to say that everyone here has the right to express his opinions, even if he knows that someone else will think the opposite. So it's really shocking to read idiotic responses like that. I don't see the reasons why a behaviour like that should be used. I don't particulary like Iron Maiden, but if somebody told me that III Sides to every story is a piece of crap, I wouldn't surely react that way.

That's all, sorry for the non-DT content...

    Fabio
