I am well aware of that... I also know that it's 'Death is the first dance

Anyways my memory failed me... I actually heard it as 'A thousand lawyers I

Deep Purple CD from the library and it had the lyrics...

Salut =E0 vous tous!
I am one of the very faithful fans of Dream Theater in Qu=E9bec. And, you
must all believe me, this Mailing list is really godsent! Now I am not
limited only to my friends when discussing about DT...=20
However, I=92m warning you, I am NOT a native english speaker (my real name
is, in fact, Jean-Fran=E7ois Smith), so do not expect here a
grammaticaly-perfect message..
So, first of all, I would like to say something about Derek Sherinian. When
I first heard ACofS, I was still under the shock of the departure of Kevin
Moore. So I did not like Derek. I disliked his piano sound, I disliked
everything I was hearing of him. I was frustrated. Quite expectable, as a
behaviour from a shaken fan, isn=92it? However two weeks ago a friend of=
mine
bought a two CDs bootleg from the Awake tour entitled Rockin=92 Japan 95. It
is in fact the first CD of the Wake Up! Bootleg. My friend and I were both
excited, because we had only heard live material from the I&W tour, at that
time. So, we listened to it.
Well, I (and he) was impressed!
The first thing about Derek that astonished me was the great range of
sounds he could make on the keys, with all those whizz and fuzz and beep and
bizz, und so weiter. All of these during a very cool solo. Bur Kevin did not
do that. I mean, Kevin remained mostly all the way long with his piano and
his typical vibrato and guitarlike phrasing sound. Sure, he was great with
that. But I think Derek will add a new dimension in DT. He is different.=20
Techically I cannot, and will not, say anything about Kevin or Derek. They
are both great keyboarders, each in their own fashion. Musically I hope
Derek will be as tremendously good as Kevin, however. The fact that Derek
played for Kiss or Alice Cooper does not matter. But Space-dye Vest is a
tune that will require a gigantic talent to equal, I believe.=20
By the way, I would like someone to answer a question. Being a native
french speaker (and having learned English mostly by reading), my ear cannot
always clearly distinguish some anglophone sounds here and there... So: on
the live EP LatTheM, during TheKHand, just after singing =91=92... that=
caused
this mourning. Crossing over...=92=92 James yells us a beautiful Labrieish=
cry.
And I am sure he DOES say something, he is not just yelling out loud. So
what the hell does he say??!?! I would like to know...
Lastly (???), I am aware that, here on the YTSEJAM, some people have
discussed about Labrie=92s difficulties on live settings. I generally agree
with what have been said (but not with Mr. Serious=92 opinions). And=
frankly,
I do not really care about that. I could never sing as Labrie does. But, if
I did not missed too much messages, something has not been pointed out. On
bootlegs, James Labrie seems to experience difficulties. But on commercial
live material (LATM, the videocassette in Japan, ACofS) he is damn good!
What about that?

btw, I've been to 12 Rangers games at Madison Square Garden this year
(and going to one AT Montreal next month). Whoever is in charge of music
at MSG has certainly pulled his head out of his ass, and has been
choosing real quality music lately. Among the stuff I heard being played
during breaks (either between periods or between line changes):
DT - Mirror
Yes - Roundabout
King Crimson - 20th Century Schizoid Man
ELP - Tarkus!!!!! (the organ player was doing this, although it
might've been sequenced)
I'm not kidding! It sure does beat the hell out of that 'jock rock' crap
that one's used to hearing at sporting events.
Sorry if it's a bit off topic, but I just thought I'd like to share
that with all of you.

I have some quick comments about the recent thoughts of getting DT on
Letterman or Conan, but DT has built up a huge fan base without all the
media attention. I say DT sticks to their roots and if the masses take to
their music than cool, but I don't think they should deliberately attempt
to become more mainstream. Plenty of bands have been successful without
being mainstream.
"Music's for you and me, not the fucking industry. You try to tell us
what is cool, but you see we come from different school. It only matters
what you say, not the fucking games you play."
Can anyone guess where these lyrics come from?
Hey, I know this has nothing to do with DT but it's killing me. The group
Suicidal Tendencies broke up last year and I was wondering if anyone
knows what the members are doing now. One of the harcore metal/punk
fans will hopefully know. Thanks I appreciate it.

King's X is a really good band in my opinion. I am not good at describing
music but here goes-they write complex music, have killer riffs, good
vocals and outstanding bg vocals. Like DT they use imagery though not as
much, but still to great effect. I haven't heard Black Flag but I do know
it is from one of the early CD's, I personally like their latest CD
Dogman the best. It's more modern and I think they used bg vocals too
much one the early stuff.

I've heard about the Norwegian metal scene and a certain figure named
Euronomous. He was or still is the leader of the movement and has been
charged with things like burning churches and other like events. Overall
the whole scene is pretty nasty. I was wondering if you have any
knowledge or information about these events? If so I'd like to become
more informed about them. Also there is a Christian band named Horde that
attacks the Norwegian scene in their lyrics.
I tried to keep it short because of the no DT content!

Anybody ever heard of these guys? Are they progressive? With such cool names

With all this talk about the possible sex-symbolism of DT I've just gotta say
that James Labrie looks alot like David Hasselhoff (c'mon, I know you all
watched Kinght Rider). Maybe David throws on a wig once in a while and warms
up the old vocal chords.

Sorry to hear about your loss. :( It won't help any but I have a good friend

at the same time. I had my car stolen on Christmas morning. Man I hate thieves!

>Another? Write or post and let me know.
I saw DiMeola, Jean Luc Ponty and Stanley Clarke as "Rite of Strings" last
summer, pretty cool. DiMeola was a little too much of a show off though.
One last thing, then I'll shut up. A friend of mine pointed out to me that the
clean tone chords that JP plays in Scarred (somewhere in the middle) include
the melody to The Wheel of Fortune. If it were in C minor the pitches would be
D-C-D-C-D-Eb-D-etc. The rhythm's just about the same as well.
Ahh, an unmoderated jam. Home of useless information.

Mike Muir just released his solo album under the name Cyko Miko (title:
Lost My Brain (Once Again)).
Muir and Rob Trujillo are still planning to do another Infectious Grooves
album, even though Epic records dropped them along with ST.
Mike Clark is working on a solo project. No word on a record deal.
Jimmy DeGrasso is working on Dave Mustaine's (Megadeth) solo project.

Anyone out there interested in trading dubs/boots? I've asked similar
questions in the past on the old jam and have had positive responses. So I
figured I'd try it again on the brand new jam. Is there anyone with any
type of Steve Vai dubs/boots? I'm trying to stretch my collection, all I
have now are mainly Dream Theater boots (not complaining!) If you want a
copy of my list all you need to do is ask via e-mail. Here's a few of the
things that I'm looking for: Stevie Ray Vaughn, Pantera, Mr. Big, Racer X,
Anything Vai touches, and of course DREAM THEATER! I'm also interested in
videos from these artists as well. One last question before I split; Does
anyone have access to the videos from AWAKE? Rumor has it that they're 3-4
videos from that album?

Well...I wanted to write tonight, because of one thing.. (well
two)
1) Im polluted as a pellican right now and realized that I've
never written to the Jam drunk before....so hey guys...enjoy the
wonderful life of Rolling Rock Buckets at Aiden OHoras...its a beautiful
thing!!!!
2) I got a free copy of JP's Rock Discipline (My recognition of
spelling goes out the window at conditions of drunkeness, so bear with
the spelling errors in the words to come) from one of my pals in "Music
and Sound Retailer" {one of the magazines my company publishes} ....
I have really become a fan of JP's of late....but this takes the
cake!!!! The man kicks everyones ass on the planet.....
(JP...if you're reading....you are now my number 1 God!)
He Kicks Eddie VH's ass up till next tuesday!!! and Neal Schon eats JP's
excrement for breakfast!!!!
{Wedge...and Gandalf...I know you're both shocked!!!}
Anyway.....Im going to sleep...so I can wake up tomorrow and start
learning to copy JP as well as Itzick can!!!!!!!
Also....a quick hello goes out to Itz, Dave( The
WIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLDDDDDDDDDDDDDD KOBA!!!!!), Gandalf, Wedie
pooh....and all the other cool YtseJamers that will tolerate my extreme
drunkeness!!!!!)

I can't believe this, my second post to the new ax.com server and
I'm wasted again! I've had four shots of Three Wise Men, and that was
about three too many... I can't even stand. In fact I've had to backspace
about 94 times so far writing this message.
For those who don't know, Three Wise Men is a 4.5oz drink:
1 shot Jose Cuervo
1 shot Jim Beam
1 shot Jack Daniels
It can get you really rocked and you don't even realize it until
you try to stand and walk in a straight line! :)
I saw the post about Brian Anderson's Acoustic Dreams CD being
ripped off while inside his stereo. I'd help him re-gain it myself,
except that I'm actually really out of discs. I am making an offer in the
throes of alcohol that you can all press me to when I'm sober again, even
though I'll regret it. Anyone who can give Brian a new Acoustic Dreams
disc will get FREE Antiquities or Scenes From a Memory. Those of you who
have extras might get a good deal out of this if you have it in your
heart to help out a fellow Ytsejammer.
Thanks to everyone who stood on vigil after the tragic loss of
Tori Amos, the friendly kitten who loved every Ytsejammer that decided to
visit my humble home. Since I'm good and sloshed and not repressing
emotion, I can say that.... "I Love You Maaaan!"
News from the DT camp... nothing solid yet, just plans that are

Theater!! Hey, it's nothing solid yet, nothing confirmable, so don't kill
yourself if it dosen't happen. But! They both have albums coming out at

to happen. Let's hope for the best eh!!! Managements will be the deciding
factors in this now.
Kangaroo purple monkey dishwasher. Fish bicycle pouch. Indeed!
I ought to have an Antiquities listing up now, but I'm far too
wasted to figure out how to post it at the moment. sorry there...
I've also been drinking Vibrating Pussies tonight, these are:
1 shot Bacardi 151 (aka Liquid Jet Fuel)
1 shot butterscotch schnapps
3 shots Bailey's
4 shots cream
1/2 shot smirnoff
Ironic that the CD Man's main contributions to the new Ytsejam
have been in the form of mixable alcoholic drink recipes.

So maybe those statements about Maiden were your personal opinion, but
maybe Smeets is a Maiden fan? Maybe his statements about you were HIS
personal opinion! You can't ask him to be removed from the Jam anymore then
he could ask that you be removed.
Imagine if you came in here and blasted DT like you did Maiden??!! I would
be the first of MANY to call you an idiot!!
The comments you made about Maiden went too far, and that's why you got a
ration of shit from a Maiden fan. You could've expressed your "displeasure"
with the new CD without condemning the very same people you once worshipped.
Putting down Steve Harris was a childish move on your part. Even though I
never intended to write to you (the guy in italy), I was equally disgutsed
with your post about Maiden...I thik I am almost glad that Smeets wrote what
he did.
What will you do when someday in the far off future when something happens
with DT and they replace a member, and try to make a new album? Tell Mike
Portnoy to go home and quit song writing?
Smeets was justified in my eyes, to write HIS OPINION of you, just as you
thought it was justified to bash every member of Maiden here in a DREAM

I recently bought my first King's X album, Out of The Silent Planet, and I like it enough, some of it. To tell you the truth, I've been kind of disappointed with the bands that have been reccommended to me on the jam. I bought No Exit by Fates Warning, and it's okay. I haven't bought Parallels yet, which a lot of you have reccommended. I bought Savatoge's Dead Winter Dead, and here's my review: Overture: good, but kind of annoying when they keep breaking in the middle of it, Sarajevo and This is The Time are AWESOME!; I Am is unlistenable; Starlight, although very heavy, is good when I'm in the mood for it. Doesn't Matter Anyway is almost as bad as I Am, This Isn't What We Meant is great; Mozart and Madness is good, so is Memory, and Dead Winter Dead. The Last three songs, One Child, Christmas Eve, and Not What You See are really good, especially the last two. I am glad I bought this CD, but to me, the band I've been most impressed with that has been recommended here is Shadow Gallery. Anyway... let me know if I should try a different King's X album.
