Yes, I've been down incognito for a while, but the Dragon has resurfaced, if
only temporarily. Sometimes I feel like I'm living at a bar that has a
    $17,000 cover charge. ;)

The fanzine is kinda sorta on hiatus. For one, I haven't been getting many
submissions, and I'm not going to print a five-page issue for my second
anniversary, which is about all I've got right now. Secondly, my ^$#!@&
printer needs a new cartridge, and black inkjet cartridges are practically
nonexistent in all of Hampton Roads, as I discovered the last time I ran out.
So, until I get a new one and until a few more of you take pity on me and
send me some cool stuff to print, it's on hold. Hopefully for not much
    longer...

For the benefit of the new blood who have no idea what the hell I'm talking
about, I publish a Dream Theater/prog/power metal fanzine, I've got sanction
from the band and all that fun stuff - they all get copies (and they DO get
them and read them, I assure you!), so here's your chance to put your
writings for them to see. :D I'm pretty liberal as to what I put in the
'zine - photos (.jpgs of the band and whatnot are MOST welcome!), CD and live
show reviews, criticisms, grovellings, you name it - about not only DT, but
any cool underground prog/power metal bands, and I do like to emphasize the
underground. If you've got ideas or anything you want to contribute, email
me, puh-LEEZE! If you're concerned about being a bad speller or something
    like that, don't worry - I'm an editor, that's my job. ;)

if I can hear myself screaming because I was right next to Mike Bahr when he
was recording it. the more i listen to space dye vest the more i think that
the other voice might be andy richter. at first i didn't think so but now i
think it might be. maybe it's that big ostrich or the nbc peacock, those

in response to Scott's post about women being attracted to the men in DT,
well yes. personally i think John P is HOT, but he's married and has 2
kids, in other words DON'T TOUCH. But finding someone attractive and
actually doing something about it are two different things. Yes i find
some of them attractive, but i would never do anything about it especially
since they're taken already. But as for them "being above" being seen as
sex symbols, are you nuts? Being that talented makes them more attractive,
    not less attractive.

Just my opinion, i by no means speak for the rest of the women on the 'jam.

Well, my fiancee thinks that James looks like a goof trying to look
    sexy in photos or videos.

James, if you are watching...I have to agree...just look mean and cool!
You are married and have no reason to impress any other woman with anything
    but your amazing vocal talent!

Actually, she thought the only one with reasonable looks was Kevin, and now
he is gone...I'm okay with that though, 'cause DT still rocks like no
    other...

First off, I wanna thank Scott Cook for getting a copy of the Japan PPV
show to me. It's an incredible show, and the tape has full Dolby
surround sound on it. In a word, awesome. :)

I just got the CDs "Streets- a rock opera" by Savatage and "Damn the Machine" by DTM and I just wanted to say that my expectations for these were totally the opposite of what I thought. Damn the Machine is DAMN GOOD when I thought that it was going to suck. I expected a lot more from Savatage, but it didn't turn out to be as progressive (at least relative to my opinion of progressive) as I thought it would be. Is Dead Winter Dead similar to Streets? Does Damn the Machine have any other CDs? Oh, and could anybody describe for me what King's X sounds like? I've only heard one of their songs ("Black Flag", b/c I've seen the video), and I didn't like it that much (this was a long time ago, too). C-ya.

Ok, time for MY first post on the new 'jam. Save this one for the recordbooks.

First of all, there has been discussion on Paradise Lost lately and I decided to give my two cents on the subject.. Karri got the discography correct, except that Gothic was their second and Shades of God third, not the other way around. I have Gothic, Shades of God, and Icon. My order of preference is the same. I didn't bother to buy the new Draconian Times since for me they are like Metallica, and they've sold out after making some excellent music. Gothic has a relatively sucky production, the vocals are growling spiced with female singing every now and then. Shades of God isn't as solemn but it has a couple of great tracks. Icon has catchy tunes but as a whole it is disappointing. I saw them live last summer, they weren't very good.

So, I like Gothic but that's just me, I assume death metal doesn't have too many fans on the list.. I listen to it a lot, and lately I've gotten interested in the Norwegian black metal scene too. Not for the message, but for the music. It's quite extreme, but it has beautiful Northern qualities :)

Now for something completely different.. I want to express my deepest condolences to Mike Bahr for the loss of his cat. I've got two cats, they're entertaining and lovable little furballs. Later all, Antti (now listening to Burzum)

    Hello to the new jam,

Had to tell somebody . . . My car was broken into last weekend. I lost about $2000 worth of stereo equipment. And you know what the worst part was? My Acoustic Dreams (#200something) was in my CD changer at the time. Needless to say, I was a little upset about losing everything, especially the AD. Did I mention my car had an alarm on it? Oh well, I should be able to replace most of the stuff with insurance money . . . except the AD. sniff, sniff. [Bafu, got any tissues left?]

hello there, it's THE WILD KOBA.

a tip of the hat in salutation to masters benenati (mojoman) and cahill, jr.

ahh, how i wish i had a vintage dt poster to boot. lucky bastard.

anyways, some observations i'd like to say about some things said around here lately.

well, i'm sitting here listening to wdatu (it's been about 3 weeks), and i realize that i have gained a new appreciation for these songs. and am i the only fool who likes the "status seeker" on this cd?? i like how they transposed it to c# minor (from d minor). nice open chords, and just real fun to play. and kevin's solo at the beginning.......

    that's a topic for later!

but yeah, it is way cool, and once again, mr. bahr, thank you again.

    now, about that other topic.....

yeah, i get so hot when john myung plays that bass, that i masturbate furiously against a stucco wall for 3 days.

NO!!!!! WAIT!!!!!!! WHAT AM I SAYING??

jeez- watch, now i get questions of my sexuality soon. anyways, what i MEANT to say was that i find it bizarre that there are folks seriously (or as much as possible) the possibility of dt members as objects of sexual desire. face it, they're ugly!! the only thing that makes petrucci so attractive is that guitar. and what about mike porntoy?? who would ever want to kiss a bearded, uncouth individual like THAT??

my, my- what ever happened to the days when CC DEVILLE was a boy toy?? or MILLI VANILLI (anyone hear the latest news on one of them- arrested for attempted carjacking; "attenpted" because the owner of the car clocked him with a baseball bat!), for that matter? why doesn;t anyone think FRANK ZAPPA is beautiful??

    AHH, I HATE YOU ALL!

<<disclaimer- no, i am not homosexual, nor do i hate anyone here (yet), nor am i making fun of anyone talking this. i just find it humorous and decided to take some liberty and some cracks at it. also, i should point that the only thing that makes ME beautiful is a guitar wrapped around me, and i have the "abraham lincoln" look going on my face. also, frank zappa is also an ugly motherfucker.

    BUT, that myung thing.......oops. kidding.

so like, peace out, y'all and check ya later.

Just a non-DT question : YtseJam is GR8T, but is there others reviews (exept METROPOLIS) on internet about EXTREME, MEGADETH, or MALMSTEEN by example ? Can ya gimme the way to receive them ?

Okey, I've a lot of DT Interview in French. I've already posted some of them on the jam (last one on the digest 1258). But some of them are old ! Do you want to read them anyway ? Leave me mail if you're interested at biorb@mail.interpac.be

I'm listening a very cool Bootleg : DREAM THEATER 'A Kick Into A Dream' in 2CD. ref: Produced by WHY NOT ? s.r.l. on the METAL CRASH label (Italy) No MECD2186. It's captured alive at the Manhattan Center, New York City on october the 28th, 1994. Here's the track list : CD 1 : Intro/Pull Me Under, 6.00 , Take The Time, Caugh In A Web (+ the famous Portnoy's Solo 'ohhhhhhhhhhh, let's get ready to...'), Lifting Shadows Off A Dream, The Ones Who Help To Set The Sun. CD 2 : The Mirror, Lies, Another Day, Erotomania, Voices, The Silent Man, Metropolis. The quality is good, not like the 'Skyway of nightmares' by exemple !

I don't post often, but since I received my copies of the Birch Hill show, I figured I would give my opinion. They sound very good for an audience recording, but it is bass heavy like someone else posted. That's understandable though because of the recording environment. I am quite happy with the results. In fact, I am dubbing them for the tree and ACOS is just ending now. Someone had complained about the extensive audience noise but I think its great. I still laugh when I hear James ask "why the fuck did I come?" when he could not sing over the crowd in Take The Time. I was fortunate enough to be there and I remember killing my throat to sing as loud as possible with everyone else. It ruled! My only suggestion is for Brian to send the j-cards along instead of us pulling them off the net. Its a pain in the ass when I am as computer iliterate as I am. we could just pass them along and photo copy them. Anyway, the new list rules, and when I get a chance to catch up on the posts, I'm having a blast reading them. I am also still anxiously awaiting my YtseJam shirt and Antiquities. Call me impatient. I have key access to where our mail here in my dorm is stored when it first comes in, and I have been looking for my stuff in it before its sorted. Oh yeah- there's been alot of talk about Extreme recently and I think thats great. I happen to be subscribed to their list, but its nowhere near as cool as the jam. If you are interested in the address to subscribe, just let me know. Anyone here fans of Al DiMeola, Michael Hedges, Return to Forever, or Into Another? Write or post and let me know.

Whoever posted about death metal should check out an album called Dimensions by Believer. They are on Roadrunner. They are very progressive (in fact its the most progressive death I've ever heard) but they are also Christian, and they have a string section and a soprano playing with them.
