    To whoever may read this,

This is not a typical chain letter, in that by passing it on to as
many people as you can, you are taking part in what may yet become
the world's biggest practical joke. The U.S. Government has recently
passed an act which enforces censorship on the internet. A group of
internet users has now come together to kick back at this
oppression, and have a bit of fun at the same time. The aim of this
exercise is to re-establish the United States as "The land of the
Free", not a fascist state where freedom of speech and thought are
curtailed. Communist Russia fell as a result of such limits being
placed upon the minds of the general populus. On receiving this
letter, please pass it on to as many friends or E-mail lists as you
can. We predict that if everybody copies the letter to 5 other
addresses, by February 29th 1996, this letter should have reached in
excess of 2 million people. That's when the fun begins........ On
February 29th, please send the message:

    --------

    Dear Mr. President,
    Do you remember this:

And afterwards enclose the pre-typed copy of the Bill of rights. By
sending the letter on the date above, you will contribute to either
one huge petition for freedom, or else lead to a crash of the
    whitehouse server.Send all letters to:
    President@Whitehouse.gov

Remember that solidarity is the key to success

While I tend to agree that Mike is an incredible drummer, he is
human. His " incredible Hi Hat technique " can not be done without
the use of his 3 sets of hats. I know, I've tried. As for the person
that said that Nicko could not hold a candle to Mike ( IMO ) It is
like comparing apple's and oranges. Mike is a twin kick user. Nicko
is not. Mike is a schooled musician who has a very good idea as to
what he is playing at all times. Nicko plays what he feels. Listen to
any IM song and you'll notice the beat has a tendency to flow ( no
click track here ). Mike is more of a machine, but not in a bad way.
I love them both and it's not a fair comparison, different strokes
for different folks. Neil Peart did the tribute album's to Buddy Rich,
and while the idea was great, his playing was not ( IMO ) He is not
a swing type of player at all. He needs disciplined time like Mike.
That is a sacrifice you make when you play that type of Music.

Funny story of the day. I grew up a HUUUGGGEEE Maiden fan.
My parents hated it. Tuesday afternoon on the New Jersey TNPK they
stop at a rest stop and who do they have the gall to meet? Yeah, you
guessed it, Iron Maiden. Of all the cruel injustices in the world.

P.S. Thanks to the people who responded to my request for help on
My J.R.R Tolkien trivia book. Anyone else who wants to help, feel
    free to e-mail me.

Being that this was my first time seeing Maiden. I've been into em
since '89 but couldnt see them cause the show was on a school night or
some stupid shit like that. ANYWAY.....Maiden totally kicked ass in
NYC!!!!!!! Blaze totally impressed the hell out of me (also a nice
touch when he mentioned how diehard fans like us could sellout the
venue in a blizzard without the support of radio or TV airplay!) ..much
better than the album and a GREAT frontman..pointed to me in the front
row of the upper balcony and I made this psychotic face while pumping
my hands and he gave me a thumbs up..COOL!!!!
Was it me but did Nicko add tons of double bass here and there along
wwith awesome ride patterns I've never noticed...everything was so
crisp live.....Nicko never sounded so good...totally blew my ass away.
Especially when he added all that double bass to the last half of "Iron
    Maiden"...FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dave and Steve were on top of everything...totally clean playing with
great chops..Steve's little intro solo was amazing (seemed faster
too...and NO PICK!) Didnt notice Janick's playing too much cause he
went a little overboard with the stage antics..but hey..its Maiden and
    there's no stopping em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All I have to say is DO NOT MISS THIS TOUR......show your support so
these dumbass promoters will allow them to play bigger venues so we can

    have a visit from Eddie!!!!

    cheers,
      Carlo

Someone (was it you, Ben L.?) posted about a drummer recording MP's parts and then shipping them to someone else for guitar,etc....This is very possible! We could do like a tribute compilation to DT! All you need is the drive to do it! You see, I'm also on the Van Halen Digest (although I do keep my feelings to myself when I hear the acheivements of EVH get belittled) and "we" are doing something similar to what you have suggested. First of all, I must say that we are doing everything legal, and I hope it's nobody's intent to use this info in a destructive manner. In fact, you can check out the details of "The God Forsaken Magic Frog's" web page at http://www.geopages.com/Paris/1549 Anyway, I'd love to do something like this for DT, maybe even make a copy for the boys.....You do need someone with a lot of time on their hands and the will to organize it, I have limited time(college) but am more than willing to help with organizing and getting the ball rolling. We would also need things like an ADAT machine or maybe even free (or cheap) studio access to help with mixing and sound quality. Personally, Van Halen has got wind of the project and think it is very flattering(as the VH fans boast with pride); so I'm pretty sure it wouldn't offend DT.... Please e-mail me if you are interested, I'll take a headcount and if we get enough interest then I'll start getting it underway.

Include in your post something like...

Name: Devon Lehmkuhl E-mail: wdlehmku@hilltop.ic.edu Instrument: Drums Recording: 4-track, 8-track, DAT machine (what you have access to)

It doesn't really matter what you record on as long as you achieve your desired sound!

I got _Journey of the Dunadan_ from Firebird Music (800) 752-0494

It's pretty cool... the sound reminds me a little of Yes (though there's a lot of spoken word on it... ).

And their _Rivendell_ doesn't sound anything like Rush's song of the same name... If you like somewhat mellow stuff (or Lord of the Rings :), definitely check it out!

Regarding _Perelandra_: it's not listed in the Firebird catalog, but mine's about a year old, so who knows...

I can't believe Soda Stereo is actually mentioned in a post on the Jam! I used to play/tour in a band with Pappo Nopalitano from Argentina. Do you know who I'm talking about? Anyway, that's how I met Soda Stereo....when I was out in LA recording with Pappo, Soda Stereo came up to visit and do a special show at the Palace in Hollywood. I was back stage with Jack Leavitt (Avalon Attractions) and Pappo, and thats when we all hooked up. We took the guys in Soda Stereo to a Denny's for breakfast after a long night of playing and partying. It was hysterical! Here were all these musicians and producers (like 15 of us), only half of us speaking english, all crammed into booths at Denny's in Hollywood at like 3a.m.!! A couple weeks after that we did our last gig in Hollywood at the Troubador (Paul Gilbert and Eric Martin actually went on stage before us!), and flew down to tour in Argentina for a few months. I met up with Soda Stereo once more while down there in Buenos Aires, but at the time I still didn't know much spanish so not much was said:) I was just surpised to see them mentioned here!
