    Yalrighty!

Well I was sitting watching LiT the other day with a few of my friends (non
DT fans) trying to show them why DT are such a excellent band. We'd already
watched and Iggy Pop video, (NOT my video - one of my flat-mates - he wears
docs, tight tye-dyed jeans and his hair is shaved apart from a sticky up
fringe - nuff said!) anyway, Iggy Pop. Not a pleasent experience I can tell
you. Apart from The Passenger which asides from Iggy's grunting, is
actually quite a good song. (IMO of course)

What did I mean to tell you.. oh yes, the main comments made were about
James' hair which in the video has been coloured. The general consensus was
that he should advertise shampoo. What do you reckon? JLB running across a
beautiful country meadow singing about Timotei or Wash & Go? hehe

It was also said that WfS / Surrounded was "a really good song"
(understatement, but there you go) Soppy girly music if you ask me! ;-)
'Balls & Chunk is where it's at' as someone who I can't quite remember,
    said a long time ago!

But the point in the video where everyone sat stunned was Portnoy's solo.
Rightly so. Fucking incredible piece of drumming. Has anyone else noticed
that part of the solo sounds like something out of Super Mario Bros? It's
the bit where he's going between his cowbells and the bass drums.

While I'm talking about LiT, is there anyone on the 'Jam who is actually in
the video? Who's the happy fellow who informs us that JlB is the best
    singer in the world?

I just got issue #9 of The Official Fanzine and there's a cool piece by
Howard Portnoy no less! He's talking about how DT decided on their name
after they dropped Majesty, and cites some of the names they considered
before settling with Dream Theater. The funniest one must be 'Asparagus
Piss'! There's also a cool interview with MP and an article on THE Dream
Theater complete with pictures by Patricia McLoughlin, who you should know
from the 'Jam. The fanzine is excellent! Keep up the good work Neil! And if
you haven't subscribed to it yet then do it now! Neil Elliot's address is
    on the AWAKE CD sleeve.

Just a quick note about IRC. Even if you're not logged onto the DT server
irc.dreamt.org , still join channel #ytsejam cause you never know who might
appear. (Probably Graham B. or myself - enough to put anyone off IRC!) Time
    to go....

    Cheers... Edd.

Yes I am risking getting strung up by all the Blind Guardian fans.
Especially if any track me down in Germany *laugh*. Hey watch it with
the BG vocal comments. I admit that they are nowhere near as good as
    James' but they aren't a prog-metal band. They are a fantasy/sci-fi
type band. More in the vein of Helloween and such. And remember they
are the Bards of Metal *laugh*.

Well at least you came close when you spelled my name. I have
actually gotten pieces of mail that had my name spelled Jason Buttwug.
And it still got to me. Go figure.

A few days ago I made a tape for my girlfriend replete with Dream
Theater. Of course, her being a girl ( ;) ) I put mostly slow songs
on there and other kinds that she might like, like Eve, Another Day
and the Elton John songs. For a little spice I put the Mirror and
Ytsejam at the very end, fully expecting her to hate those..

She thought Eve was 80's sounding. She liked Funeral for a Friend
but not Love Lies Bleeding. Her favorite song was The Mirror, and
second favorite was Ytsejam (off WDATU of course :) Now I know why
guys always say they don't understand women.. it's impossible, I tell
you.. Oh well, maybe I'll take back the tape and put some of the
    harder DT stuff on there.

Ok, jammers. This is my first post, so excuse my ignorance on some
issues. The biggest question in my mind is WHEN IN THE HELL IS D.T.
COMING TO PITTSBURGH? If I've already missed them, when will they be in
any other "nearby" cities (Cleve, Balt, Philly, etc.)

Also, I had never heard of "When Dream and Day Unite" until I subscribed
to the jam. Is it available in stores? If not, how can I get a copy?
Once again, please excuse my ignorance. I'm self-educated on D.T.'s
music. None of my friends really listen to them, so I just started by
hearing "Pull Me Under" and went from there. The thing that intrigues me
the most about D.T. is the fact that they don't just "write" songs --
they compose. I don't think any group can match their ability to put
    songs together.

On non-D.T. topics, if anyone has access to touring dates (or upcoming
release info) for any of the listed bands (or any similar groups I may
have omitted) please post them (for the Pitt. area, anyways). I haven't
had much success finding touring info.

    D.T., of course
    Alice In Chains
    Soundgarden
    Overkill
Iron Maiden, or any other heavy grunge or speed metal bands

    Thanks.

      DT content to follow.

I've heard mention of Watchtower on the jam a few times. If this is the
same Watchtower from Texas, I have something one or two of you may be
interested in. I have a 1987 four-song demo recorded for me from Ron
Jarzombek (forgive me if I misspelled that, Ron) who (whom?) I took lessons
from in 86-87. Billy White (g) had already left the group, soon to join Don
Dokken's solo effort. The songs are very Rush-influenced, which was the
band's sound at the time. They also have Jason McMaster on vocals. He was
splitting time at this point with Dangerous Toys, also of the San
Antonio/Austin area. Unfortuneately (huh?), any future Watchtower
recordings, if they are ever anymore, will not include Ron. He underwent
surgery for a carpal tunnel condition, the doctor made a mistake, every
guitar players nightmare. He still teaches here in town, and I'll probably
have to talk to him soon, since I forgot all the song titles on the demo.
    E-mail me if your interested.

    DT Content:

Thanks for the mail with boot material. I can start building my collection
now. By the way, I thought Moon Bubbles was the instrumental following TLF
on Live In Tokyo. But the discgraph says it's Barf Bag. Can someone tell
me where I can find Moon Bubbles, Thanks.

I've heard that many people didn't get the jam that had my post about Mr.
Petrucci, so I'll repost what I wrote earlier.

All I'm doing right now is copying an article out of Saturday, February
17th's New York Newsday from the Obituaries sections writen by Sandra
    Saslovsky.

JOHN PETRUCCI, FOUNDER OF COMPUTER SOFTWARE FIRM

John Edward Petrucci, of Kings Park, a former professor at Hofstra
University and founder of a computer software company and a computer
software network, died of cancer Tuesday (February 13) at St. Johns
Episcopal Hospital in Smithtown. He was 55.
Mr. Petrucci was born and raised in Brooklyn. He graduated in 1963
from City College of New York with a bachelor's degree in Electrical
Engineering in 1963. He went on to earn a master's degree in systems
sciences from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He completed doctoral
studies in Professional Services at PAce University.
In the 1970s, Mr. Petrucci taught computer math at Hofstra. In the
1980s, Mr. Petrucci left Hofstra and started Stanhope Associates, a
computer software company, that operated in Commack, Deer Park, and Kings
Park before closing last year when he became ill. During his years at
Stanhope, Mr. Petrucci started Lincup, the Long Island Chapter of Network
Users International, a group that shares computer software. He served as
Lincup president from the founding about five years ago until December.
Mr. Petrucci had served as a Eucharistic Minister giving communion
at mass at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Kings Park since 1983. He
also served on the church's financial board for the last 10 years.

Rosann Billera. "He was an exceptional human being who will be missed."
Mr. Petrucci married Billera in 1963, and the couple moved to Deer
Park. Two years later, they moved to Kings Park.
Besides his wife Rosann Billera, Mr. Petrucci is survived by two
sons, John Jr. of Hackensack, N.J., and Christopher of Rochester; and two
daughters, Susan Bakunas of Smithtown and Joyce Petrucci of Kings Park. He
is also survived by his mother, Sue Petrucci of Brooklyn, a sister, Diane

OK Shirt fans, last chance to get on the shirt order bandwagon! I
almost have 40 orders, but we're about 10 short, so if you have
hesitated to get your order in, please do so now! Here's all the info:

OK Shirt fans! It seems there is enough interest to test the waters
more for another shirt order. After speaking with the shirt company
about minimum orders, it looks like we need 50+ orders to make it
worthwhile. So, here's the info, please send in your requests for
shirts now, and if I see we're going to make the 50 mark, then I'll
then instruct everyone where to send the money, etc.

For news on Tank Tops, see below!

    Design ( front ):
Majesty symbol in white ink, with "Ytsejam" on top in script font,
and "INTERNET MAILING LIST" in small block letters beneath.

    Design ( back ):
Large white DREAM THEATER logo in white across the top, with
Let the Light Surround You across the bottom in greyish GLOW IN THE
    DARK ink.

This shirt is now being offered in FOREST GREEN, BLACK, MAROON, and
DARK NAVY. I cannot guarantee that this design will look good on
any color but black! (of course, "good" is completely subjective).

Sizes Available: M, Large, XL, XXL (+$1.50), XXXL (+$2.00).
Dark shirts tend to shrink more than light colors, so if you are on the
edge of a size, order accordingly!

Fill out this form and return it to jgiles@crl.com:

'Sup all. Chris, Elliott... thought the game needed some additions, so I
    thought I'd make some suggestions.

Some schmuck spewed useless info, and I thought I'd make you look at it again:

    >Take a sip if...

    >Bigman makes popcorn. [DE Addition] - 2 sips if anyone actually eats it.
    >Someone mentions Jennifer Aniston. [DE Addition] - 2 sips if it's Bafu.

[DE] -> If damon is depressed.

    >Take a gulp if...

[DE] -> Someone gets the bejeezus slapped out of them. 2 gulps if they
pick it up. Chug the whole beer if someone else picks it up and
attempts to do something with it.

[DE] -> If people start to rhyme. 2 gulps if it's Bafu.

    >Someone's nick is alternating caps and lowercase a la NuGgEtMaN. [DE add]
2 gulps if they actually change nicks to Nuggetman. Pound the beer if they
     get kicked for doing it.

[DE] -> Ben proclaims his undying love for his favorite DT song of the week.
[DE] -> Ben tries vainly to defend the Dave Matthews Band. 2 gulps if nobody
shoots him down. Pound if he wins the argument intelligently.

    >Half-chug if...

(Half-Chug? "There is no half chug, luke. There is only chug, or chug not.")

    >Two people switch nicks.
    >D-Man charges up the Digital Walruspult(tm). [DE] full chug if he fires it.

    >Wisha says something. (this should be full, not half.) :)
    >You send or recieve a DCC. [DE] Full chug if it's with Bafu, cuz he can't use
     IRC to save his life.

    >Full chug if...

[DE] -> Skadz, after idling for god knows how long, announces his return by
kicking someone for making a wise ass comment.

    >You send or receive a DCC of a nudie pic. [DE] 2 beers if it's Aniston.
Shoot the moon if it's legitimate.

Thought I'd throw my two cents in. Later all.
