Hi all
just a quick note to say thanks to everybody who sent info about how to get the
Superior CD (special thanks to Bernd). I guess it won't be long until the CD is
in my grubby little hands.
And now: The Strange Effects of Dream Theater on Cats, part 1. I am currently
house- and cat-sitting for some friends who are diving in Belize (lucky
bastards). Anyway, these people have a fantasic stereo, so when I moved in, a
large part of my cd collection went with me. Last night I was playing AWAKE
at a volume calculated to annoy the neighbours two streets away, while I was in
the kitchen. When the CD had finished, I went back to the lounge to put some-
thing else on, and - horror of horrors - I found that one of the cats had been
using the big Infinity speakers as a scratching post! That cat soon learned
about the joy of flying (with the aid of my size 12 foot up its butt). The
question is, why did it do that? Was it trying to get to the little men in the
speaker, or was John Myung's bass upsetting its kitty digestion? What do I tell
these people? Perhaps I could nail the cats to the speakers next time.
stay safe and happy listening

Fellow YTSEJAMMERS sit down before you hurt yourselves. Yes it is true
I can make you a copy of SUBCONSCIOUS on CD. Now before you mess yourself
understand that this is a COPY and it is not an original from some secret
stock pile.
It WILL sound exactly the same as the original.
It WILL NOT look exactly the same as the original.
It WILL cost the same as the original. $25 U.S.
I have received permission from Mike to do this and my intent is not to
compete with him. I am doing this because I realize that there are a number
of Jammers that missed out on SUBCONSCIOUS and I would like to help.
A note from Mike:
Hi everyone! I can't make any more, you're all well aware of
that. It seems like what Jim's doing here is a decent enough project... I
don't even know how he's going to cover costs because I barely did when I
was using much less expensive recording media. If you missed out on
Subconscious, this is your chance to at least get a CD copy of it. It
won't be the original, numbered, valuable collectible, but it will be the
same music on CD and that sure beats cassettes! :) For the record, as the
original creator of Subconscious, I give my blessing for this project to
go forward, and he might do Acoustic Dreams later; who knows!
MTFBWY! Mike Bahr, durnik@indirect.com/mikebahr@dreamt.org
Here is how I would like to work it. If you would like to order please
copy and paste this into a reply with your info:
SUBCONSCIOUS ORDER
NAME:
E-MAIL:
# of COPIES:
I will e-mail the first 25 people and ask that they send a money order
in $U.S. I will accept a check but I must wait untill it clears the bank, so
this means your order will take longer to get to you. When I finish with
these I will move on to the next 25 and so on. This way you don't have to
part with your hard earned money so far in advance of receiving your
shipment. If you don't have the money now you may ask to be put on the WAIT
order list. What this means is I will WAIT for you to e-mail me when you are
able to send the money and I will then put you in the next block. I ask that
people do this so I know in advance how many blank CD's I need to purchase.

Neil really has excelled himself with issue #9 of I&W.
It's full of great stuff, and the quality of the photos is amazing! I have
to admit, I was expecting the Dream Theater to be slightly larger :-) (the
actual building, not the photos!)
Lots of respect to Howard Portnoy too :-)

All I can say is that if you haven't already checked them out, do it
NOW! You owe it to yourself to be exposed to such awesome music. Every
member of the band is excellent on his instrument. So take my advice,
people, and support an amazing progressive band.

Message-ID: <199602251949.LAA16031@mindcrime.ax.com>
The whole idea of recording covers of dt is a damn good one. It
sounds like quite a bit of fun. However, the idea of sending someone five
tapes of different performances would be next to impossible to pull off.
That would require multiple synced decks. I don't know how many people on
the jam are fortunate enough to own a Digital Multi Track recorder, or
mutiple decks for that matter. If someone happens to own this equipment,
odds are that it is paying someone's bills in their studio right now and
they don't have time to mix anything for free. Now, if it is to all be put
down on one tape (VHS or Hi8) and sent to someone with some gear and free
time, It may come out half decent, and this scenerio is a bit more
plausible. I don't personally have the time to work up my chops to play
guitar or drums on this, but I could help engineer someone recording it, if
a Hi8 format is being used. If anyone living in the central PA area is
interested (or someone willing to travel) I could help. I could also mix if
that is what is prefered. I can not help out however if it is done on ADAT.
However, if anyone is willing to move back into the stone ages and record
onto 1/2 inch 8 track analog I can help then too. Also, there is the
possibility that I could help if anyone can do analog 24 track. If that is
possible, it sure to come out better, just because of all the additional
control over the drums since they wont have to be mixed down to a stereo
pair. Just make sure not to follow the bright idea of whoever it was that
said to record bass first. I am fortunate enough to have access to this
equipment because I am a recording student. So, if whoever is in charge of
this is interested in my help, just e-mail me and we could figure out what
is going on. BUT- MAKE IT QUICK! This semester is just about half way over,
and I can't work past May 15.

Just a correction on some other jammers post...
Someone posted (I forget who you are) and said that Derek said "doomo" in
the pay-per-view video. And that Derek thought that "doomo" meant "thanks"
when it really meant "a lot."
I take Japanese and "doomo" means "thanks." But it is very informal. So
Derek knew what he was saying.

MY OPINION!!! MY FUCKING OPINION....My interest in exploding
the reason why Tori Amos is so famous is MY OPINION....
to Who ever happened to say something concerning me being worthless
to this Jam.....?
(Your name is not very important to me, because I dont care for
your insignificantly dull comentary)
Your threats about posting shit on the Tori Amos newsgroup is
what makes you a silly, immature looser!!! People are NOT going to like
the same fucking music you do.....for certain no one likes the same shit
I do, yet I dont flame someone for every little fucking post the make
about my interests...
What bothers and concerns me the most is the fact that the same
reason you flame me for stating an opinion....It merely makes you more
of a piece of shit for responding....
Every God-Damned fucking Jam I recieve is loaded with shit that
is going to piss me off...I dont respond to each and every one of
them...I dont care...
IN response to your silly claim that I am doing this for
attention????? 3 words....Go Fuck Yourself!! Tori amos may be a good
musician, have a good voice....
(But have you listened to the radio lately???? 97% of your
musicians making megabucks are talentless)
(But she uses sex to sell her music...its a gimick that makes her
stand out....)
I am going to state opinions...If you dont like
them....again...Go Fuck Yourself.....

Just listened to X Factor for the first time, and I have mixed feelings.
Still sounds like Maiden, but Blaze Bayley sounds like Bruce Dickinson with
a kick in the balls and no heart. Why did he have to leave? I think Joey
Belladonna should've been the new singer if Bruce had to leave. Oh well,
in 6 days till their Milwaukee show...
What's all the fuss about the drinking game? I thought it was cool. The
complainer just doesn't get half the stuff, that's the problem...
And to the guy who said, in almost exact words, "ther person who lays down
HIS tracks first (probably the bass player.....)" Do you think all bass
players are guys? hThey're not.
And anyway, I can almost guarantee that sending a tape around wouldn't
work.
If you don't record live you'll probably need the bass AND drums to
record at the same time and then do the overdubs of everything else.
Something to take into consideration, kids...

Can anybody tell me where I can get Subcon and AD? (Are you getting tired

Seriously, if anyone out there is interested, the Japanese composer Toru
Takemitsu died last Wednesday, he was 66. R.I.P.
Another thing: I'm grateful to the fellow who is willing to make copies of

etc., shouldn't it be a little cheaper?
