Jordan Rudess did, to my knowledge, replace Kev on tour, but
it was for more than one show. He was with DT when they
played in Seattle, and he was EXCELLENT. He pulled out
some serious jazz chops during the improv at the end of TTT.
I also recall James saying something to the effect that Jordan
was the new keyboard player. He only declined the job because
he wanted to play with the Dixie Dregs more than with DT.

Any of you other Seattle guys remember
this (Bafu, Chris, Paul, the mysterious thalamo@u?) or was
    _I_ on crack?

    About this:
Maybe if we wait till summer. Then, people would be on vacation,
and could maybe actually get together in an actual studio and record
something. My Aunt just had twins, and she lives in Phoenix, so I don't
doubt that I will be making a visit there this summer. Maybe my parents
would even be nice enough to take me somewhere else. Who knows?

Once again, folks, to get on IRC, fire up your IRC client (mIRC is the favorite; I included a URL for this in my infamous 12k post to #1275... I don't remember it off hand, so if someone has the time, feel free to post it). Most clients will allow you to chose the server you first attach to. The server is:

    irc.dreamt.org

The default IRC port is 6667, however, Skadz has feel it necessary to screw everybody up and make it 2112 (a la Rush) on his server. Make sure you have your port set to 2112 or IRC won't recognize the host. This is the most common problem encountered. If you can't attach directly to the server, you can get there by typing the following:

    /server irc.dreamt.org 2112 ^ That is a SPACE, not a PERIOD.

I hope this helps you all out. Later.

Yeah man. You can never hope to understand women but don't underestimate them :). I had a girlfriend who really liked DT. I made her a tape of _my_ favorite stuff, not stuff I thought she would like. The first time I saw DT was with her. She was awesome <sigh>. Just proves that it's possible to meet an awesome girl with better hair than you (well, me :) who digs the same cool music you like. Now if only I could find another like that....

Ben Lassuade is possibly *the* most annoying person I know. He has no clue what he is talking about most of the time, and even if he does, he never makes sense. I, personally, am glad that he is too young to go see a DT show. It's immature morons like him that ruin DT's image for the rest of us. If we are lucky, Ben will *never* be able to see a show, and the rest of us will be able to enjoy the musical genious without a senseless brat to bring the mood down.

So, Ben do you still like seeing your self mentioned on the 'jam!? ;)

Seriously, man, it's all in fun.

Since it was brought up, the reason that Richie Kotzen was kicked out of Poison is two-fold:

    1) He was fooling around with drummer Rikki Rockett's ex-fiancee. It is my understanding that Rikki and the woman broke up on their own accord. Then, right before the band was to take to the stage during the tour to support Native Tongue, Rikki found out that the two had been seeing each other for quite some time. He was fired almost immediately. It is unclear for how long, but it would be a safe assumption to make that the relationship began while Rikki and she were still dating. Richie and the woman are now married.

    2) Band chemistry, or lack thereof. Native Tongue is a great album (I'm actually listening to it right now), but it was a departure for the band, so much so that it lost some of the fire that made Poison what they were. Richie's playing is incredible, and it is because of this album that I went out and bought Mother Head's Family Reunion and can't wait to buy his new one. But he just wasn't right for Poison. For the record, Blues Saraceno played on the band's forthcoming release Crack A Smile, which promises to be a return to what Poison was meant to be: a great rock n'roll band that writes catchy songs without pretensions.

Richie (defender of all things Poison)

P.S. I appologize profusely for the lack of DT content, but the issue has been brought up alot recently.

I happen to like quite a bit of nonkeyboard music. But when you're kicked out of your band because they want to be trendy, it has a tendency to smart a little bit.

As far I can see James LaBrie (nor Geoff Tate) use falsetto... they just have a very large vocal range... obviously, the higher one goes the thinner his/her voice will sound...

I know these guys can go this high, because my singer can go just as high as these guys with his real voice... and his voice thins out a lot more than their's when he sings high... so much that at first I thought he sang in falsetto, but he told me he didn't...

later on this was proved to me one day when we were playing TTT and when he was singing the "If there's a pensive fear..." his voice cracked (which BTW caused a lot of laughter that day) but my point is that the cracking of the voice is actually your real voice breaking into falsetto... so obviously he was singing in his real voice or else his voice wouldn't have cracked...

Geoff Tate however seems to have the very unique quality of singing w/ a very (VERY) deep voice, while still screaming w/ the best of 'em...that's pretty unique...

    well that's it for now..later

Ok. It seems like it should be much later than it is, but it isn't. It's just been quite a week for me. For those of you who don't know, I started a new job on Tuesday. Good news: it's a job. Bad news: my time for being online is killed and I miss staying on irc all night with everyone...anyway... Before I continue I should state that after work today a few co-workers invited me to go out for drinks. Note: I am not drunk. I did drink, but...well, email me if you care. Anyway, there's one guy I work with who listens to some good music so I was telling him about DT and he said I should bring some in for him to listen to. Then I was talking to two other ppl. and one was complaining about how the spring and summer he doesn't listen to the same music as in the winter and fall (anyone else have this S.A.D.-like prob?) so I looked at him and said, that that's why there's DT, so you don't have to change music with the change of seasons... :) and...he likes DT (most of it anyway). And knowing that made me feel like I sort of fit into this crazy company. Anyway, the other girl who was there sounded interested in knowing about DT. so we were telling her about them. Later tonight while we were at the bar I was talking to that other guy and he asked what I like besides DT, and the other girl came over as he was saying DT and she thought that he also is familar with this legendary group, so she said that now she has to hear this, and why she was the _only one_ who never heard of them :) Maybe this makes no sense. It was just so ironic when she said that. Maybe you had to have been there. I do plan on bringing the music to work, maybe someone with influence will like it and pas it along to someone who has a real say in the broadcast/cable/whatever world. Maybe the other workers will like it and maybe it will just make my day go by faster... I'm exhausted. Been up since 6:00 and going to crash soon. Haven't read the last 7! or so jams. The other day I didn't have any to read and now they are just waiting, it's sad. Not as sad as my 'dinner' of nacho chips at the bar and cookies on the train ride home, but... goodnight ppl. I'll be quiet now :) Sorry that was so long. -Rachel http://www.li.net/~wisha

No! No! No! No! No! No!

I don't want to beat this into the ground but it's got more relevance to the jam than Poison (AAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!). Your entire vocal range includes your lowest pitch (which is in your natural voice) and your highest pitch (which is in your falsetto voice). If you want to find where the break in your voice is then just start on your lowest pitch and work your way up chromatically. Eventually you'll feel where the break is, and it'll probably be about 2-2.5 octaves from where you started. I've heard people say that Geoff Tate has a 6 octave range, a ridiculous statement indeed. Hell, my entire range is 5 1/2 octaves or so, but that includes my falsetto voice! My real range is only a little over 2 octaves. I don't know why I am obsessed with this subject, probably because music is my major and I have this strange desire to share what I know. Unless there is a backlash against what I'm saying I promise not to mention this topic again, I know there's a lot of you who could care less.

I agree with Mike Bahr on the cover/tribute compilation project. I also think the odds of getting a final product that anyone could stand to listen to are pretty slim.

My band records every gig we perform direct from the board and we've been getting excellent tapes. I think a live recording of a band or a studio project of a band doing a DT song would get the best results.

By the way, my band does a cronological medley of DT song covering a piece or two from each release from WDADU thru ACOS which we would be happy to contribute.

    Any other thoughts??

Well, I had been looking for that Ivanhoe "Symbols of Time" CD for quite a while, and today, low and behold -- there it was!! In an HMV, no less! Weird. It's usually hard to find anything worth buying in there.... Anyway, the CD is very slick. I'd definitely recommend it to all you guys. I'd say that they're like the liason between Shadow Gallery and DT. Not a whole lot of odd time wacky stuff and incredibly technically difficult guitar/keyboard unison passages and stuff, but there's some very cool stuff on this disc. Some very heavy stuff, too. Two thumbs up for me, Roger! :) So go out to your local HMV (if they have those anywhere outside Boston...) and buy "Symbols of Time" by the band called Ivanhoe. Trey, have you gotten the entire disc yet, or are you still listening to that one tune? :) They get even better!

    Later, jammers!

    Brian
