    hi all

OK, OK, so I screwed up on my last post. Of course I meant Bombay Vindaloo and
not The Ytsejam. Still, you try listening to Napalm Death and not having your
brain go all soft and mushy. Do I still get the job of screaming on the tribute
project? My office mate has even suggested I go all the way and try for a good
loud "please don't go", but so far I keep forgetting the words. I won't give up
though: I'll bet the vocals for Awake weren't recorded in just a single take.

    stay safe and happy listening

you know, it never ceases to astound me how every time rush has a new
album in the works a new rumor starts about one of the members. remember
when neil supposedly had cancer? when geddy had cancer? when alex had
cancer? when neil had AIDS? now neil is gay despite his wife and
daughter? please, look into your facts before you start spouting out
rumors about musicians. would you do it if the person was just a normal
person you knew? probably not. give musicians the same respect.

Sorry, but Neil Peart is not gay. His is married!!!
Lets get off this gay thing and start on something more
intelligent. How about sending info about Dream Theater to
each other. I don't really want my hard drive taken up with,
Dereck's gay, Neil's gay, Daniel Boone was a satanist, Lonnie
Anderson is a man, and so on and so on.........That should
have covered all the possible topics.
On to Dream Theater now, what is WDATU? Is it a
bootleg? I'm new here and have yet to totally catch on to
    somethings. See ya

Unless you record the original song on one track... after the drummer and

Hi fellow DT fans, this is my first post. I'm glad to be part of this great list.

There are just a couple of things I really want to get off my chest. First, let me respond to the guy who said Neil Peart is gay. What the hell are you talking about? I've been a Rush fan for 4-5 years and know that Neil is married with one kid!

Secondly, I hope we could stop all this talk about Derek being gay. I mean so what if he is? Does that make him any less talented? The bottom line is that we love their music, and shouldn't care about the sexual orientation.

    Later, Marco.

Hi everybody. My name is Charlie and this is my first message to the digests. I am of course a big Dream Theater fan, but being on this midwest campus (Northwestern) I stay very uninformed. I was extremely disappointed when I picked up A Change of Seasons and saw that Kevin Moore was no longer a member. I loved his work on "Space-Dye Vest" Can someone put me up to speed as to what happened? And don't get me wrong I think that the new guy Derek rocks, I'm just curious as to what happened to Kevin. Also, does anyone know when the new album is coming out? And why does Barney Greenway of Napalm Death always show up in the special thanks? (I am also a big ND fan). Well nice joining you guys; I agree with you that it is a shame that the masses aren't enjoying the musical complexity and mastery of Dream Theater...yet! =)

I understand what you mean. Actually, REM would never be in direct competition with Dream Theater. Metal stations that have been overwhelmed with grunge never played REM. I enjoyed their music for awhile..until that Stupid Song..."this one goes out to blah, blah, blah...repeat ad neaseum...." O.K..so I hold grudges. That song did change my life...it turned me off to top 40 radio...for good. I did get careless though...I would rather listen to REM than the likes of Nirvana. Anyway, back to the topic...Dream Theater is already successful. They might not have the enormous CD sales that some bands have...but they aren't one hit wonders either. They are probably at a very comfortable point in their lives. I'm sure that they make a good living for themselves...and they don't have to worry about the pains of being enormously successful. I wonder if they would really want the kind of success bands like Nirvana have enjoyed? Obviously Kurt Cobain didn't find fame to be very fulfilling. I know that we would love for them to take over the airwaves and the world..but I wonder how that would affect them? It might be the catalyst that would break them up......you just never know.....

Hey! What's the deal with this tribute thing where people are convering DT?! I have the music to, have practiced and can play the bass parts to Erotomania and Lie. I'd love to do bass for one of those songs. I have the part to CiAW too but there's one section that's really killing me and will take a lot more practicing to get down.

Then, I haven't had time to read many 'jams but I came across this and thought it was funny.

    > On a different note, whats the bullshit about Sherinian > sexuality, who gives a fuck!, Ive been listening to Rush for > years, even though Peart is gay. ^^^^^^^^^^^

ha ha. I don't think Peart is gay but it seemed funny that despite that, one would listen as if one doesn't normally listen to groups with members whose sexual persuasion differs from "the norm." :).

Just dropping a line, saying that all the names and info on the Dream Theater Tribute should be sent to your personal account sometime tommorow, I've been collecting names for the project all this week and it looks like we have enough interest to start things off! Again if you are interested in contributing something, e-mail me and I'll put you down!!!!

Someone said they play trumpet and was interested in this project, but I don't have your email address, so please get ahold of me, there's another guy who plays trombone so it might be possible to do the Big Band Theory! ;-)

Hey, There was a thread awhile back that Extreme wasn't prog-rock, just really intricate rock, or something to that effect. If that's the case, then King's X wouldn't be prog-rock either would it? I was listening to it today and it doesn't seem to hold any progressive traits. I love King's X and all but now I'm confused as to what defines Progressive rock. As for DT being around in ten years, I say they will. In all magazines and stuff, it seems that they strive to be different. Also, I thought Portnoy mentioned something about NOT becoming part of a fad so they'll be around for a long time. Just a thought. . .

Okay Jammers, this is urgent. If there's anyone out there who can direct me to some decent resources for progressive music in general, whether in print or on the net or whatever, please email me ASAP! But the key word(s) here are "in general." I don't need stuff on particular groups or individuals. Well, I do, but I can take care of that pretty much by myself. I *really* need material pertaining to the genre/style itself, like what makes music progressive, and that sort of stuff. Help me out, please and thanks in advance!

    Ditto. Amen. Fuckin' A, Bubba!

Well, that is a little tricky. Some will say that after Gabirel left, it all went to hell. Others would say the downturn started after Steve Hackett left, two albums later. I personally fall in the latter group, and believe that they didn't really get to hell until after _Duke_. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- "They say these is strangeness, too dangerous Jonathan Byrne In our theaters and bookstore shelves West Virginia University Those who know what's best for us rri02@wvnvm.wvnet.edu Must rise and save us from ourselves." -Neil Peart, "Witch Hunt: Part III of 'Fear'", Rush
