just got the new tori single, "caught a lite sneeze." very interesting,
especially the b-sides........the tune reminds a lot of "god" for some
reason, but i think i like it so far.

also got the fates warning "chasing time". haven't really given it a listen
yet, but thanks to those who recommended it to me.

and i'm a-gonna go see the screaming headless torsos tonight. yippeee....

and even better........tomorrow, i'm going to take a road trip to
connecticut, trade in my satriani guitar and buy me a brand new 7 string
    guitar! yay.....

    3 cheers for bulbosity.....

well, that's it. peace out, y'all.

just wanted to thank all those interested in my wfs transcription.

ps- i saw the "lie" single at the wiz in greenwich village, ny for a whopping
$35.98...............i asked someone there, "is this the right price." he
looked at me (thinking he knew something i didn't), and said, "it's an
    import."

"no shit, pal.....but i've seen it sam goody for $13. you sure, there, tough
    guy?

"well, that's an import, and that's the price."

"get the fuck outta here, crackhead."

more or less my conversation, with artistic liberties taken, of course.

bafu- it was a pleasure to meet you as well, and i really do regret that it
was only for a minute, but my friends and girlfriend were getting antsy (as
this was their first dt experience), and were getting scared.

next time dt does 4 rare shows in the east coast, we talk more (or if you
happen to be in the ny area, give me a shout out).

and the only reason i appear to hurt brains is 'cause of that hat i had on.
that makes ANYONE look vicious. but peace out, homey....jam on.

Well Stefan, what is clear you answered yourself in the top sentence..we in
America tend to SUPPORT our inspirational heroes with a hell of a lot more
gusto, which is why you see mostly Americans in this newsletter supporting
Dream Theater, and not many non-Americans.

As far as you thinking it is "childish" for us to get off on meeting them
and shaking hands, let me put that into perspective a little bit:

If someone came into your life and inspired you to the extremes that DT
inspires me, you would not want to go through life never having had the
chance to meet them, or tell them in person "you changed my life! thank you
for what you create and not giving up on doing what you do best!". If the
pictures are all I can get for now, then YES I want them! But I would surely
feel like I was in heaven if I was blessed with the opportunity to meet the
band that I believe to have most musical talent in the world...to meet
someone like John Petrucci whom I consider to be the most skilled and
controlled guitar player on the planet!

We're not a bunch of little teeny boppers jumping onto a bandwagon of a
current fad. DREAM THEATER is not a fad! They are all elements of music and
it's reason for existance rolled up into one small group of human beings.

Childish or not, it would be a great honor for me to meet the guys that have
made me feel like "real" musicians have not yet become extinct. They stand
for a lot of things, but the main thing is that they have not given in to a
"fad" oriented money pinching business...they write thier music without
compromise, and they play it with a never ending enthusiam and devotion to
detail and being the best that they can on every song.

Let me ask you this Stefan, isn't their anyone that you would be honored to
meet? If not, then where DO you get your inspiration to live??

"The way that your heart sounds, makes all the difference, in learning to
    live.." (LTL, Dream Theater)

This is in response to Stefan's, the Swedish guy (that was his name, wasn't
    it?) post:

I'd have to say I agree with him for the most part. We shouldn't treat
celebrities and "rock stars" like they're better than us. I've done that
before, making a total ass of myself in the process. They have to take a
shit just like the rest of us mere mortals. Fame does not equal
"godliness." Just look at someone like Jeffery Dahmer. Most people can
recognize him, but does that mean he was a great person? Or how about OJ.
I could recognize the name before his trial, but I couldn't tell you what
he looked like, or anything else for that matter. Even now if I saw him
walking down the street I'd withhold the urge to say "nice job covering
your ass, you bastard." I'd just walk right on by without a word; he
    doesn't deserve the attention.

This isn't to say presumably law-abiding citizens (e.g. the members of DT)
don't deserve recognotion; they just don't deserve to be treated like
higher forms of life, because they're not. Sure they can play and write
better than myself and many other young musicians, but don't treat them as
if they're gods, because I know musicians better than me with attitudes
that make them as worthless to humanity as the tree sloth. Don't make the
bands we listen to become big-headed ego-maniacs, OK?

    That is all.

           ------READ EVERYONE------
Since everyone seemed to like the YtseCon shirts AND I am going to have to
have more made anyway, I am going to alter them and make some Ytsejam
shirts. The front will be like the back of the YtseCon shirts with a huge
correct Majestly symbol and the Dream Theater logo above it in white ink.
On the back, written across the shoulder blades will read:

                              --Ytsejam--
                 Dream Theater's Internet Mailing List
                         ytsejam@arastar.com
                 (small majesty symbol centered here)

There is a gif of what will be on the front of the shirts (this is also what
was on the back of the YtseCon II shirts) on my DT web page...check it
    out!!! http://www.ju.edu/UsrWebPages/tallen/home.html

NOTE: This is not the EXACT image that will be on the shirts. This one is a
little rough and the screen print place cleaned it up a ton (ie. looks
pixel-less or not from a computer. I think this one was scanned in w/o the
highest resolution) but it will give you a good idea.

    =======PRICES==========
All garments come in any dark colors (blue, black, red, purple, maroon, navy
blue, royal blue, forest green, etc.) and sizes S, M, L and XL. They will
    be printed with white ink.

            ====T-SHIRTS====
    -----50/50 $14 (add $2 for XXL)
    -----100% cotton $15 (add $2 for XXL)

            ====SWEAT SHIRTS====
--All sweat shirts are 100% cotton--
          -------Non-hooded-------
    -----7.5 ounce $18 (add $2 for XXL)
    -----9.0 ounce $20 (add $2 for XXL)

              ------Hooded------
    -----7.5 ounce $21 (add $2 for XXL)
    -----9.0 ounce $23 (add $2 for XXL)

SHIPPING = Add $3 per item...I know its alot, but complain to the US postal
    service!!!

I will throw in a free Majesty sitcker w/ every order. They are also sold
seperately for $1 a peice (no shipping costs). They are the same design as
the Majesty symbol on my DT page.

I am accepting orders today and will be for about 2 1/2 more weeks. Please
e-mail me and tell me what you will be ordering and send the money
immediately. Since I lost a little money w/ the whole YtseCon thing and DT
cancelling on us, I have decided not to order any of your shirts unless I
have your money in hand! So send, send like the wind!!! :)

I am at a loss for words. Birch Hill was the first time seeing/hearing
DT live. Somehow I managed to find myself center stage about three bodies
back and remained there in awe impervious to the crushing crowd around me.
(sorry Bafu, I think I wedged you out of your spot at one time) Only Dream
Theater could have made the 600 mile drive to NJ worth every pothole and
    missing hubcap. Right Andy? :)

Anyway, my reason for posting: I must have a copy of this show! My mind may
(or may not) be sharp, but in five years after attending 20 other DT shows,
the first one may begin to fade. BIRCH HILL TAPERS: please contact me and
we will work out a trade, or whatever it takes!

    TIA

PS To the guy who had his recorder taken at the beginning of TSM, hope you
got it back! If not, at least you got the tape :) Boy was James pissed!
I wonder if you were a fellow ytsejammer...

    Hi!

I want the BH show, pronto! Someone must've recorded it.

Could someone specify what they did to Scarred, in what ways it differed
from the Awake-version? Was LTL different this time? Also, what bass did
John M use for the recent shows? The one from the Awake-tour?

Email me privately if this has already been dealt with and I've missed it.

To <another swede>: I'm here, nowadays I'm mostly lurking since I've got nothing of importance to share with all of you.

    ---

I'm going to reverse Ytsejam (I think). It won't take up that much space. I'll do it the cheap way. WAV-format, 11kHz, 8bit, mono. I'll put it up on my home page sometime next week. It WILL be interesting to hear, don't expect too much though. Backwards music IS annoying.

And yes, there IS a new Galactic Cowboys album.

The record stores here in my area aren't the greatest at obtaining Imports. I've been trying to order Ivanhoe's latest CD for several months now, with no luck. If anyone could tell me how to go about getting this CD, i'd greatly appreciate it.

Hey everybody, I'm quite new on this page and I think this is great. I am a BIG fan of John Petrucci and Dream theater. I was planning to attend the Birch Hill concert in NJ but I'm only 15 so it was too bad. I am looking for the WDATU cd and the Subconcious cd that somebody mentioned on the jam. If anybody has these tapes please inform me.

    Hi all,

I read something in the FAQ list that some of the samples added to Space Dye Vest are from unknown sources, particularly the part where you hear some guy say "...if you're not in this house by 9 o'clock..." (and so on but I'm not going to rewrite the whole thing.) and then a little before that you hear the little kid say "...I'll get a job, get my own place...". Well I was shocked to hear those lines in this (I think Canadian) documentary movie thing I had to watch in my Child Psychology class 2 semesters ago! I wish I could remember what the name of the movie was. All I remember is that it was something regarding child abuse, etc. and some social workers set up cameras in this house and those words were from the little kid (Evan) and his step-dad (Mike). I'm gonna try to find out what the name of the movie is and I'll post that.

Thanks for all the stuff on the holiday shows! I didn't go but it's cool to hear about it. I really hope that there will be a midwest Ytsecon or that DT will play Michigan again in the near future.

I am disappointed to hear all that James bashing stuff! Hell, that guy has one of the most incredible voices I've ever heard! You know I heard someone bashing him big time once when I started a Dream Theater chat room on AOL. Someone came in and really started up on that and I got pissed. I've stopped creating those rooms cause I either get someone who has no idea who DT is, they think it's some kind of fantasy room and they start propositioning cyber-sex or something, or someone who does but just likes to criticize.

Also commenting on digest 1216: Roland Theysohn made a list of boots with "Another Day", well add "Wake Up!" to that list. This one was recorded live at the URAWA BUNKA CENTER, Saitama, Japan on January 24th, 1995. It's a real good one even though there's nothing off WDADU. But it does include a Happy Birthday song to John Myung which was kind of neat. The lineup:

[note: "Wake Up!" is also available as a video according to issue 1163 and elsewhere --kbibb]

Disk 1 1. Pull Me Under 2. 6:00 3. Take the Time (Derek does a real cool solo after that one) 4. Caught In a Web 5. Lifting Shadows Off a Dream 6. Instrumental

    Disk 2 1. Instrumental 2. The Mirror 3. Lie 4. John Myung's Happy Birthday 5. Another Day 6. Erotomania 7. Voices 8. The Silent Man 9. Metropolis

Not sure if anyone's ever mentioned that before.

    Bye for now. :)

    Seize the day! Irene

anyway, for anyone trying to reach me i will have a new email address and web page url starting 1/8/96. here it is:

    lerxst@metronet.com http://www.metronet.com/lerxst

i assume there is much interest in getting copies of the 4 holiday shows. i am going to try to organize a tape tree, one show at a time, probably starting with the birch hill since the show was the best imho...

anyway, i need a few volunteers to be branches. probably 4 or 5 would be best. what i need is people who have at least one DAT and good analog decks. also some free time :) if you meet this description and would be interested in being a branch, let me know. after i get the branches set up, i will start taking people fcfs to be leaves. there will be say 4 branches, 8 limbs off those, and 8 leaves off those. this would mean the most any person would have to make is 8 tapes, and the worst tape anyone would get woule be 2nd gen from DAT. and we could supporst 256 total people if i am thinking straight.

anyway, dont email me yet if you dont have DAT equipment. i might volunteer to be a branch, so we would only need 3 more. if you want to be a branch email me at lerxst@metronet.com and lerxst@tamu.edu one the .com one is just starting up, and the .edu one is dying, so cc to both of them and i will probably get it.

my goal is to make all 4 shows available to everyone on the list for just the cost of blanks and shipping. if we all work together it shouldnt be a problem...

Hey Jammers since everybody talks about how DT doesn;t have much radio airplay I just wanted to say that in Mexico there is a News program that always uses as the intro to the program "Learning to Live" DT is widely accepted here in Mexico. Just thought you'd like to know.

You know....I hate the critic with the credentials of a sparrow!!!

I read reviews of albums by idiots that comment on the artistic ability of a group when they dont play themselves..... for example....how can someone say that so-and-so can play guitar withso much feeling when they dont even play themselves..... You can say.... I dont like his playing....

Well to side with the Labrie corner.... As a singer...Labrie has a great voice... AS a Fan....I Love Labries voice

Just reeeeeal fast, that's all. I can skip backwards on my new CD player. That'd be a neat contest...guessing what song it is while it's playing backwards at high speeds.

Does anyone like the band "Death"? I recently picked up their latest album, "Symbolic". Some really good metal. The drummer is friggin awesome. I'm not a very good judge of guitar playing, so I'll just stay out of that one. It sounds good anyways. The only downside is the guy's voice. It's not so much that the actual _sound_ of it is bad, just that he stays on the same single note through the whole album. And its not even a reeeeeally cool deep growl. It's this high, supergravely scream thing. It would be cooler if he screamed regularly and saved his gravel scream for special occasions. I don't know why I'm saying this because probably about 3 of you have actually heard Death. Oh!

    Well?

Ytse-Ben doesn't want to comment on James's voice...but he will. IMO, he has the perfect voice for DT music. FROM WHAT I'VE HEARD, and I could be wrong, it probably wouldn't sound as good if James sang alternative or country or something, cause that's not the kind of voice that he has. I am very glad that James is DT's vocalist, and would not want it any other way.

Ben "Finally Got His Double Bass Drum Pedal" Laussade "Tweet, tweet, tweet!" Some bird, from A Change of Seasons Bad spellers of the world UNTIE!!!
