    >Downtuning, on the other hand, I am not a big fan of.[deleted]

Actually, if you tune youur guitar down it gives it a thicker and darker
tone which makes it sound heavier IMHO... of course heaviness is a realative
word... some people consider anything with distorted guitars to be 'heavy'

    > - I would like to know more about the Ibanez USRG models.

The other guitarist in my band ordered one about a month ago... it should be
here soon... just tell me what you need to know and I'll ask him when he gets
    it.

BTW... I had an intersting dream having to do with DT I just wanted to
share... I dream that they appeard on Letterman(obviously I had just read
that post on the'jam) and they played (don't laugh) a Rage Against the
Machine song... it wasn't actually a song I had heard before but in the
dream I recognized it as a RATM song... anyways, and I'm ashamed to say it,
they sucked... i think it's because my mind can't even come close to
imagining LaBrie rapping... another interesting note... James was holding
the mic with a closed fist instead of his usual 'hang loose' grip... well
anyways they were so bad that I thimk Dave started to make some jokes in the
middle of the song and then all of a sudden Boyz II Men came out and
stareted to sing... GOD WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!
Anyways... sorry to take up your time w/ this useless dream... I just had to
    share it...later

the Bombay Vindaloo on the GPM cd is actually taken from LatM... it was a
jam that they just decided to include on the CD and I guess they gave it a
name just to not have to put 'improvisation' or something like that...
Petrucci explains it all on the liner notes in the GPM cd...

Hi, this is my first posting here. I've mainly been a lurker. But I think
the David Letterman idea is great, and my letter is going out tomorrow.

I also have a question. I live in Arkansas, and I know that DT has never
came through this area, but there are a BUNCH of DT fans in the around here.
This past summer a Queensryche concert sold out w/in days in Little Rock,
and I know a DT concert would sell out quicker. To get to the question,
does anyone know any future tour dates or the chances of DT coming to
    Memphis or Little Rock?

I know at least one 'jammer got a backstage pass during the _Awake_ tour when
DT came to The Warfield in SFO. What a bunch of us did, however, is waited
near the back door and bus (around the block) for a few hours after the show.
Granted, the crowd dwindled down to less than 1/4 of what it was (it was a
little wet sometimes), but we got to meet everybody from DT plus some of the
Fates guys. Derek came out after less than an hour, but the rest of them
didn't come out 'till almost 3 hours later, but it was worth it.

Hey everyone, is When Day and Dream Unite any good, especially
Charles Dominci? Is it still in print? How about that German import of Lie?
I think it has Learning to Live and another non-album track on it. By the
way, how do those MIDI files work...I doubt my dinosaur of a "computer"
could handle it. Can anyone recommend a good King Crimson album to get?
For those of you who were hearing something different in Track 5 of
Awake, where James says, "Thought Disorder," I hear what you mean, but
that's not what he's saying. As far as classical musicians, I play
assistant principle upright bass in a local audition only youth symphony.
There is something to be said for most kinds of music, classical being one
    of them.

My roommate and I believe that the tapping sounds on Shadow
Gallery's "Carved in Stone" track 20, are some sort of code. If so, has, or
can, anybody figure it out? Please, email me directly with any info.

    Hi everyone,

I'd originally said that I wouldn't post too often and now it's like almost
everyday. I'm not sure what happened. :)

This is regarding my previous posting about where some of the samples in
    Space Dye Vest came from.

I'd mentioned that I'd heard the words in a documentary I'd seen in a
Psychology class. Well I found out today that the documentary was called
"Evan". It was on this canadian show called "The Fifth Estate". Every week
they talk about a different subject and that time it was about problem kids
    and abuse.

So just wanted to note that. Add that to your FAQ sheets. :) Bye.

    Seize the day,
    Irene

Anyways, I wanted to tell you all that I've finally finished redesigning
"Lifting Shadows"! Also, Mike Bahr's page is up on my page now. BTW, I
didn't ditch the old format for the sake of the people who can't support
clickable maps. Anyway, check it out and hope you guys like what you see!
    I'll TTYL!

someone wrote that they thought d.t. should get rid of the outro to ACOS
because it's sort of anti-climatic live. IMHO, it doesn't seem to me that
you could do that with ruining, or at least changing drastically, they
continuity of the work. since the song is about, symbolically speaking,
the "change of seasons", the symbolism is very cyclical in nature, a full
circle. it seems to me that returning to the beginning in the outro is a
logical and fitting end, as it comes full circle on itself, as do the
    seasons.

    up to.

We have almost finished work on our first full length album called"Ocean

Someone posted about hearing Bach influences in Erotomania ect... I think
its practically unavoidable considering Bach wrote over 500 chorales,
re-invented the piano (tuning system) and wrote preludes and fugues for
all 12 major and minor keys, and then some. Its hard to write any chord
progression and not find at least a similar Bach counterpart. Not that
    its a bad thing though.

Well, I've been buying quite a few CDs lately. Most of you saw my review
of the Victor CD. Today, I got one in the mail that I had been waiting a while
for. A NY prog-metal band called Braindance recently put out a CD called
Fear Itself. I found them through IUMA and thought they sounded good from the
descriptions. I never heard the samples because I have no sound card on this
computer. I bought the CD on a total leap of faith and let me say, it paid
off! These guys are great! They compare with DT pretty favorably on general
style. They are a little slower tempo and less prone to technical guitar
pieces. They use ALOT more samples(recognizable ones too!). Their lead
singer has a voice more in the bass range and doesn't stretch his limits as
often as James. But, the best part is that the two women in the band(the
keyboardist and the guitarist(!)) harmonize with him frequently and well. The
individual members are excellent on their instruments. None of them quite
DT, but they are excellent regardless. If anyone else has heard them or of
them, mail me and let me know what you think. I am loving this stuff!

    Later,
