the tape tree is closed as of right now. if you missed out, at least
100 people will have copies of the show very soon.
i will be posting a tree structure on my web page (which i finally moved
to its new location)
i got a suggestion that a tree structure posted to the jam will be too
much of a useless post to some, so it will be on the web page.
url is below. i will be getting in touch with the DAT branches tonight,
and once the tree structure is posted it is up to the individual leaves,
limbs, and branches to contact each other and work out terms. i will
be posting a "suggested" method which i would like to see everyone follow.
there will also be some guidelines for those making tapes to ensure
quality, consistent tapes to everyone.
later...

Does anyone know if DT wants to do Letterman, and if they were booked what could they play? Dave says Hello, they play ACOS, Dave says Good Night. That would be a good show. About the holiday gigs. I have no clue about these places but they sounded like bars. Are these the usual places DT plays in that area. They've been to San Antonio twice and have sold out (I think) the 4000-5000 seat Majestic Theater both times. Seeing them in a small to medium club would kill, but that won't happen in this town. I know there's Texas 'jammers, but anyone out there from San Anton'? I'd like to get the ground work started for a Jammer meet & greet with the band when they eventually get back here. ============================================================================= "Frankly, I don't want to be a part of a progressive rock scene- I want to be part of a Dream Theater scene." - John Petrucci thekid@txdirect.net "don't ask me, I just work here." =============================================================================

I think the Letterman idea is excellent... but I was thinking that maybe it would be better to wait till the next CD comes out... I know it would require A LOOOOOOOOOOOOT of pacience but if we did it now, DT might not be up to it since they're preparing to record... and besides, if we wait for the new CD, it would be better for them since they would have new stuff to play... I mean, what would they play now....aCOS? i dont think so.... well anyways that's my opinion, but if you guys do it, Im in...
BTW... don't they have an email at the Late Show... I,m sure they do...they have a web site... I don't want to drag my butt down to the post office again... I already had to do that last week to oreder WDATU...well enough rambling... later

Jeeze. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read the comment about lameness at the end (or beginning for that matter) in ACOS. Don't you get it? A Change of Seasons. It's a cyclical thing. You know: spring, summer, fall, winter, spring, summer, fall, winter, etc. I believe that's why they did it the way they did in this version (This is the only version I've ever heard).
Back to lurking.

The infamous drumming in the intro in Under a Glass moon (pedal, snare, pedal) is similiar to Ytse Jam in 3.33-3.45. It occurs at the end of a bar (I think) _____________________________________________________________________________ D_TiCian = D_TC = DTC = dtc = Ha! s7700020@singnet.com.sg http://www.singnet.com.sg/~s7700020 _____________________________________________________________________________

According to the New-Releases mailing list, WDADU will be re-released on 2/27. I dont know if that is going to change but that's what i saw.

We had a similar discussion last night on #ytsejam....
Whats going to happen in the future with DT...
When someone asked Derek why DT doesn't play WDADU songs, I think Derek may have answered in a partial truth....
One of us asked Mike Portnoy the same question at the White Plains Sam Ash Drum Clinic he did.... Mike said "Those songs in a way aren't us anymore...James didn't sing on it, and Kevins gone....the band is a different band" (This was a paraphrase by the way....)
I can agree with Mike to an extent...I hate Charlies vocal melodies more than anything..(but thats a different discussion) so I dont mind NOT hearing those melodies out of James..(cuz I know James could've done better)...the keyboard's???? Kevin Moore's keyboard sounds have become one of the signature sounds of Dream Theater....so I think Derek will do stuff on the new album with a Moorish vein...(maybe not though)
What you probably would see, is what most bands do....they take the timeless songs...the ones that have DT marked for life so to say... for example...you may see a song set like this in the future:
1) NEW SONG 2) NEW SONG 3) the mirror / lie 4) NEW SONG 5) NEW SONG 6) pull me under
You get the idea...maybe a tune from each album...you know...
It also depends a great deal on how successful future albums are...
[Before reading the following, bear in mind that this is Mojoman's opinion and that if you wish to discuss this with him that you should email him at mojoman@pointblank.com and not to the list--kbibb]
What I don't want to see is Dream Theater changing to an antiseptic watered down version of themselves....like Rush did!
Rush used to be a band with great ideas, moving pieces of music, and musically interesting parts....
Now Rush is a pop band with ABABCBAB song format, and once in a blue moon one of them will play a part reminiscent to days of old... Rush used to have all the qualities of a Symphony with only 3 people playing parts.....you'd have songs with different movements, tempos, feelings....it was intense....I feel Rush is writing to sooth the ears of idiots that cant listen to anything more complex than an Alice in Chains song.....
Thats what I dont want Dream Theater to do....
So guys, if you're reading, please hold on to your integrity..ok?
Thanks Mojoman

You know, I really hate to say this, because I love Van Halen, but Eddie really hasn't shown anything impressive in a while except how poppy he can be. Truthfully, after listening to Balance and ACOS, I think JP torches Eddy. But, because ACOS is 23 minutes plus of progressive power and Ballance is commercial pop simplicity by comparison, Guitar magazines seem to flock to the simpler. I mean, come on. They did interview the guys from blind melon.
Let's face it, guys. Unless something like a miracle happens, the progeressive rock and metal world will never get the respect it deserves by the mainstream. Why? Because they can't understand what we are doing. They don't understand why we don't break down and make poppy music that will be played on MTV. They don't understand why we have to change the time signature. Isn't 4/4 enough? And if somebody decides they want to write a 23 minute plus piece, they are called self-indulgent. Right. We're self-indulgent. But, progressive rock fans won't abandon progressive when the trend falls like these punk/grunge people will. Progressive rock fans are the truest fans because our bands are not popular to begin with, and no matter what we stick by our bands. Look at Yes and Genesis fans. Yeah, some are so disgusted that they don't buy the new stuff, but some fans buy Yes and Genesis albums faithfully, even though they are more poppy.
To tell you the truth, although I am frustrated sometimes with the music bustinessesconstant slamming of prog music, I think we have a very good genre here. We don't have to worry about trendy shit. We got great musicianship. We got bands that don't subscribe to publicity stunts, usually. For the most part, the people in our bands are actually normal people.
So, let Guitar magazines have their mediocre bands. Let MTV keep playing their crap when they do play videos. At least progressive rock is something we can call ours.
