I realize DT isn't very mainstream as of yet, but I'm surprised that
a band like that hasn't made an appearance on Letterman's show. I think
it's a great idea to write them about it.
Anyone know what the background lyrics of ACoS as LaBrie says

Are there any YTSEJAMMERS out there who can read Japanese? If so, if you
have a copy of DT's Live @ The Marquee (Japan Ed.) CD liner notes (if not, I
can fax it to you), would you be willing to provide an English translation of
what appears to be a concert review written in Japanese? Thanx!! :)

=====READ EVERYONE CAUSE THERE ARE SOME CHANGES!!!=========

    ---1st change---
Hey!!! I have decided to make a slight change to the NEW YTSEJAM SHIRTS due
to several suggestions for it...Instead of having the big (and correct)
Majesty logo and DT name on the front, I am going to put it on the back of
the shirts/sweats. This will be just like the back of the YtseCon shirts in
white ink and all. This can be seen on the DT section of my web page:
    http://www.ju.edu/UsrWebPages/tallen/home.html

NOTE: This is not the EXACT image that will be on the shirts. This one is a
little rough and the screen print place cleaned it up a ton (ie. looks
pixel-less or not from a computer. I think this one was scanned in w/o the
highest resolution) but it will give you a good idea.

    ---2nd change---
So, you ask, what will be on the front of the lovely garments Trey?? Well,
I was thinking...since the address for the Ytsejam will be changing soon to
    ytsejam@ax.com and metropolis@arastar.com will be just a weekly/bi-weekly
digest form of announcements and other important DT info I was going to
put the ax.com address on the front of the shirts and leave off
the arastar.com address. The front of them will look something like this
    (centered across the chest):

                             --Ytsejam--
             Dream Theater's Internet Mailing List
                         ytsejam@ax.com

I could put both addresses on the shirts if you guys think that would be
    better. Ideas??? Suggestions???

    =======================PRICES===============================
All garments come in any dark colors (blue, black, red, purple, maroon, navy
blue, royal blue, forest green, etc.) and sizes S, M, L and XL. They will
    be printed with white ink.

    -----50/50 $14 (add $2 for XXL)
    -----100% cotton $15 (add $2 for XXL)

       =======SWEAT SHIRTS=======

    Hi Ytsejammers,

There are some questions about Shadow Gallery and I'm trying to get an answer
real soon. Gary Wehrkamp and Carl Cadden-James are both surfing the net
    sometimes.

Gary told me Shadow gallery's Brendt Allman recorded some basic tracks with
Mike Portnoy and Billy Sheehan for a Rush tribute CD.

Hey, that`s Chris Collins (vocalist of Majesty) who sings on the Oblivion
Knight demo! And the demo is from 1989, so it isn`t really new...

Hello everyone, it's BABS (I knew that you've missed me not including that
in a couple of my posts - snicker). Just a few comments, nothing earth
shattering. Just my point of view...

    1. To Mike Bradley: So basically you're saying that all it takes is a
bottle of Jagermeister, a bag of twizzlers and a nice smile????? Geez, I'm
gonna try that on my next date (btw, my date knows who he is, so he's been
    warned) ;)

    2. RE: Dave Mustaine (definitely gets my vote for most pathetic of the year)

    3. "Sunrise, sunset. Sunrise, sunset." Seeing the Crimson Sunrise and
Sunset on ACoS always reminds me of that tune from Fiddler on the Roof.
Regarding it's intro & outro - it's fine, just the way it is!

I'd better go before listmeister [only kidding Ken ;)] bans me for
    rambling. -BABS

    Hi all
sorry to dissappoint you all, but no I'm not dead (even if I smell a bit from
time to time), I've just been lurking for a while.

So, we now have an all-new, censored (sorry, I meant moderated) Jam, which I
think is just a little bit on the tame side, but what the hell, maybe things
might brighten up a bit one day. Anyway, the subject line says '2 things', so
    here they are:

    1. The old year is probably still in our memories, and with it the great music
and new albums that it brought. So I thought I would like to hear from you,
telling me what your favourite album of 95 was. PLEASE SEND YOUR ANSWERS TO
nga@software-ag.de NOT TO THE JAM, [emph added-kbibb] and I will try and put
a top 10 (or whatever) together some time in the near future. My vote goes
to "The Silent Enigma" by Anathema.

    2. This point is actually directed at any Kraut-Jammers who may be around,
although anybody else is free to read it and possibly even reply. Does anyone
know anything about a band called Love Like Blood? I have read comparisons with
Paradise Lost, and since I like PL a lot, and because LLB come from Germany, I
thought I might be able to support a local, home-grown band, assuming they are
as good as the press says. All infos gratefully accepted.

    OK, time to lurk again.

    stay safe and happy listening

PS I saw Vanden Plas just before Xmas - they really are a band worth checking
out. IMHO much better than Ivanhoe or Everon.

I'd just like to make a quick suggestion and thanks. First if you haven't
bought the Shadow Gallery album yet DO SO. It's amazing. Their musicianship
is on level with DT honest. Lot's better keys that Derek will ever be able
to do. But thanks for those who say to get the album, after buying and
listening to there version of "Release,Release" I was like I have to get
    this album.

It seems like at this time last year after many suggestions I bought
echolyn. Who became one of my favorite bands. Now there set to break up,
this sucks. But hey Now I have Shadow Gallery.

    Long live PROG ROCK.

    Hey all!

First off, it's great to be back to school and reading all the jams! And
I loved the show this past break at Malibu. My favorite parts were when they
played Scarred and the "electric" version of The Silent Man. (I know I
indicated no DT content in the beginning but what the heck, they're awesome.)
One other thing: What's up Digital Man!! Anyways, I have been hearing a lot
of good things about Fates Warning and I was wondering what is a good album to
get for a first time listener of their music. Well, that was my question and
hope to here from some people about this. Thanks in advance!

I just got the 3 Magna Carta tribute albums and Shadow Gallery's Carved
    in Stone.

The Yes and Genesis tribute albums are _AWESOME_. I am no too familiar with
Yes and Genesis so I do not know how close to the real thing they sound.

The Pink Floyd tribute basically to me sounds just like the real thing except
the vocals changed. I am not too impressed with this one. The Yes and Genesis
    are great!

Shadow Gallery's album is great too. I dont understand why some of the
instrumentals are not titled and the last listed track, is it split into 8
parts? The lyrics indicate only 7 parts. The tapping at the beginning of
track 20 is annoying. If I have that cd in the car I doubt I will be
    listening to that track.

Any opinions on the bands Enchant, Cairo, or World Party?

any opinions on the best Yes and Genesis albums to listen to?

    hello all,

i wanted to add a bit to the discussion about the neet little harmonic trick
john used on tlf. i'm pretty sure that the first person that used that
paticualr trick is joe satriani(doing hammer/pull rolls w/the left hand
while lightly tuching the strings with the right, or vv if you are left
handed.) the trick is all over his first album "Not of This Earth" and on
almost every one since. here are some tips for having some fun with this
    technique.

-try different strings, but i have found that the a string
            works the best
-try different runs ie. ----2-0-2-0, ---3-2-0 or ---4-2-0 ect. in
joe's home vid he used the first example while goofing around.
-try using different numbers of fingers on your picking hand to rub
            across the strings
-try moving you picking hand up and down the strings between the
bridge and around the 20th fret

i asked this a few weeks ago when everyone was sending in show reviews.
at the birch hill show the club was showing vids. on a big projector screen
and two tv on eather sind of the stage before the show. they had a single
mounted video camera that had a shot of the entire stage that ran during the
entire show, it was a good still shot with good color. the shot was
displayed on the two side tvs. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS VIDEO LINE WAS TAPED
AND WHERE A COPY COULD BE ATTAINED FROM IF IT WAS. thanks i'm sure i'm not
the only one who would like a copy is this if it exists. Hay, i know a few
of you have contact with the band members. could anyone ask around and tell
the rest of us here on the jam what they found out.

include any of the following please e-mail me.

Learning to Live, Afterlife, Innocence Faded, any unusual guitar solos
or drum solos, cover tunes, or basically anything that isn't on the PPV or
    the live in Japan video.

I have a list I can send you of the DT & other related material that I have
    in my possesion.

I'm still interested in any of JP's & MP's clinics and the Ronnie Scott
show videos. (If anyone has them)

                                         Thanks,
                                          Brandon Padgett

    Hey...

Do you guys and gals know that Guitar for the Practicing Musician has
    another guitar compilation out??

And of course JP is on it, so I'm just wondering if anyone has picked it
up yet and listened to it.

Unfortunately, those type of recordings/CDs are quite hard to find here
in Canada, but I'm going to check sometime soon.

Does anyone know what track he plays??

ANyways, I just picked up the new Alex Lifeson solo proj: "Victor". I
kinda like it. It's a departure from Rush's style in ways...

    anyHoo...

    Cheers!
