    Hello jammers!!

I haven't been very active on the jam lately. The reason? To make a long
story short, a two and a half ton slab of sandstone fell on my Dad and he's
been in intensive care since last Thursday. But, man I hadn't posted before
that for over a month. That was because I was a lazy person.

Speaking of converting people, I got I&W Live in Tokyo last Tuesday, and
showed it to a friend who I have wanted to convert for a long time. He is
very into the Vinnie Paul style of playing and is a drummer himself. The
solo in the middle of the Ytse Jam started, and his concentration increased.
Then MP and JP started quoting By Demons be Driven. He freaked out. Later
on he told me that he has two idols now.

Someone asked if the DT soundbytes bothered anyone else. Personally I love
them. They give the songs a kind of Blade Runner feel. Like anything else,
they are only good when used in moderation. White Zombie does not use them
in moderation (not to mention, they suck live). With DT, however, you have
to remember that MP is one of the biggest movie fans around, and is probably
    greatly inspired by cinema.

JM has no other hobbies? Didn't they pick the Chef's condom for him in the
    Live in Tokyo video?

As for the Green Day thread. I hate to say it, but I like Green Day. It's
the weirdest thing. They stand for everything I'm against yet I still buy
their albums and give them money. Maybe I've been brainwashed by the media,
maybe they just make good music.

    I'll see ya later,
    Cory

    Hi...

I am new to the mail list. I am a really big fan of DT.

I know that DT was partially influenced by Rush. I am just wondering
which Rush album I should get?

In other words, which Album is going to impress me the most?!

"Those who would know" say that you're likely to see a very
familiar face singing for VH... stay tuned... I'll say this: he's the
singer of a popular band that won't be along much longer.

Also: Sammy Hagar has already been contacted by the Stone Temple
Pilots. Chances are he won't join, but they HAVE offered him the job.
You'll catch the full story on MTV news tomorrow or thursday, no doubt.

98 Rock (97.9) is a pretty good radio station. The other station that is
decent as well is DC 101. You can forget about HFS. They suck balls. You
could offer the DJs on HFS a million dollars in exchange for playing some
    Rush and they would refuse.

Yeah, I couldn't believe when I heard country on 100.7. I came home from
    school and was disappointed.

      I STILL say he's
    >closer to Ginger Baker. Portnoy's polyrhythmic playing sounds a lot like

I never noticed many polyrhthms in Neil's playing. Sorry to keep asking for
examples from people about things, but where!? Simon Phillips has got the
evil(er) polyrhythms of Portnoy, and the killer ghost note diddle finger
crap of Peart. And the wildness of both. And, you're right...the beginning
of Xanadu does sound just like the beginning of Bombay Vindaloo. But, Bombay
Vindaloo was made up on the spot, so it doesn't count as much. :-)

Ok, people, I need your help...

I'm working on the Tshirts for the MytseCon, and since it's at the end of
this month, I have to get the printing started within the next couple of
days... I am almost done with the design, and I can print anytime now,
but I need to know how many to print up. I can do just enough for the
Con, but that would force me to sell the shirts for more. However, since
these shirts are on par with the ones they sell at the concerts, I'm
willing to open up sales to people who aren't going to the Con, if
there's enough interest. That would take the prices down to about $16
(plus shipping if I have to mail it to you...), which is much more
reasonable for a Tshirt (although, I'm sure we all fork over the $23 for
    DT tour Tshirts. :)

Anyway, the graphic and back design are posted at:
    http://www.missouri.edu/~c675311/mytsecon.html
Remember that these are subject to slight change, but that's more or less
    what they look like.

I want everyone on the list to take a look at that page, even if you have
no intention of going to the MytseCon. I need to know how many everyone
wants, sizes, and whether you'll be at the Con or not. If I get enough
interest, you'll see that price drop to $16, and possibly even less. I
hope to have enough to cover the cost myself for now, but if I have to
have a lot printed, I'll have to start takeing pre-orders and checks...
but I wouldn't worry about that until the time comes.

Please DO NOT put this off, I need an idea on quantity within the next
couple of days. So don't even bother reading the rest of this 'jam until
you have fired up your WWW Browser and sent me a note about the shirts.
Ideally, I'd like to go with a printing of 100 or more, but I won't take
that risk unless I know there's interest in the shirts.

Also, send email directly to me, since I'm about 25 'jams behind right
now, I won't see anything posted to the 'jam for a while... If you like
the shirts, and think that others will, by all means, post to the 'jam
praising them or something, but I need to hear from you all individually
    if you want a shirt.

That's all from me for now... Hope to hear from you soon...

Well, my reason for saying that they sucked was not because of what
they played, but how often they played it. They would just play so much of the
same band over and over. For example Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Stone
Temple Pilots. It was just too much and they beat them into the ground...so
much so that I cant listen to Soundgarden anymore. Another point is that
Smashing Pumpkins just put out a record with 28 songs on it, and the radio
insists on beating the same three tracks into the ground. The radio has just
gotten so annoying. Oh, yeah, just to be safe....this is all my opinion. :)

what was wrong with the Awake producers? I thought the guys were pretty

than I&W. Did I miss why they aren't working with them, or am I just an

I was just reading thru a coupla these here Jams and couldn't help but
notice people posting saying "Radio sucks!" and so on. I just wanted to
take this opportunity to welcome these people to the real world. Heheheh.
    Frankly, I couldn't help but gloat a little when I read people's
complaints about how the last metal station in their area just went
country or classic rock or whatever passes for music these days:). I
realized a couple of years ago that radio REALLY DOES suck, but I thought
it sucked even more that people in other parts of the country (I'm in CA,
BTW) got to listen to GOOD radio stations. You see, I'm a real vindictive
bastard and if I'm not getting mine, then I figure nobody else should
either. That's really all I had to say.
Oh, also, there's 4 country stations on the FM band where I live (I'm not
kidding about that!!!!) and I've been thinking about bombing a couple of
them. Anybody care to join me:)?
    Still gloating,

Now hang on there!!! I, at the young old age of 32, can still
rock with the best of them. (Picks up cane and slowly ambles about the
rest home) Why, back in my day, we used to make records out of this
weird, bendy black stuff called vinyl. If you didn't like the record,
you just melted it down and made it into coffee tables. :)
In all seriousness, there is a certain degree of truth to the
fact that the yuppie generation is creating a festering musical cancer
on the landscape of North America. First, there was rap. Then came
alternative. What's next! I'm afraid to think about it!
Unfortunately, those in their late 20s and 30s DO buy the bulk
of what's out there. However, much of it is crap (witness Alanis
Morisette among others). The funny thing about Alanis is that most of
these kids don't realize that her first 2 records were dance albums!
However, her voice sounded a HELL of a lot better than it currently
    does.
I was raised on rock. From age 5, when other kids were
listening to their Sesame Street or Partridge Family records, I was
listening to Ten Years After, The Stones, Grand Funk and the Beatles.
(Yes I had permissive parents : ) The point is, my parents listened
to good music. Based upon the sound of most of the easy rock that's
currently flooding the airwaves, it's no wonder that corporations are
flooding the market with Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston,
Boyz II Men (or Boyz II Boyz if you like), etc. The suits that work in
the golden towers of Wall Street will rush right out to by the latest
"Oh baby, baby I love you" music to listen to in front of the fire
place with their "I ate a piece of romaine lettuce, and I can't eat
again for another week" girlfriends! It's PUKE INDUCING!! (where have
    I seen that before)
Well, you'll be glad to know that my son or daughter, when
he/she arrives, in the not too distant future, will be raised on the
likes of Scorpions, Sabbath, QR, DT, Rush, Marillion, Old Genesis,
    Tori Amos, etc.
Do I win a sensibility award or anything?

I just got back from seeing ID4, and here's my review - IT ROCKS! This movie has a little bit of everything and it all fits together well. That's all I'm gonna say - GO SEE IT! I plan to go back muchos times. Favorite line - "And what is that SMELL?" - Will Smith

Weird - I've heard shit like that - in Denver, when KAZY (or was it KBPI? Cory, you there?) switched from metal to alternative, they played like 2 days straight of "Alice's Restaurant" - over and over! It sucked . . .

Well, I'm in Tennessee but not too close to Memphis - I got transferred to Oak Ridge, near Knoxville, in March. My impression of Tennessee - pretty countryside, huge bugs, nice people, shitty weather. But that accent has got to GO! And everybody who says "So what do you think of Tennessee so far?" obviously has never been to Denver, or they wouldn't ask. :^)

    See ya'll later,
