OK. For those of you who are teetering on the edge I'm going
to tell you right now:
GO SEE INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!!
This film is phenomenal. My cronies and I walked out of the
theatre (hee hee) in an absolute daze. The dogfights, the ripping
of shit, the effects: one word: WOW!
Sure there's some cheesy stuff...but it's really outweighed by the
much touted "special effects." Will Smith is such a bad-ass! OK...
if I type anymore I'm going to end up giving something away. Just
do yourself a favor and go see it.

First of all, I'm pretty damned sure that most people on this list know

I once bought an album called "Master of Puppets" because it looked really cool, and the band had a really cool name like Metallica. Turned out to be one of the better albums I own.

"Hello Baltimore, Washington" - David Lee Roth 1982
---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Mon, 1 Jul 96 23:44:07 CDT From: robert Dylan putnam <rputnam@midway.uchicago.edu> To: vanhalen@lists.fdt.net Subject: Article about Sammy in SF Chronicle A stunned and angry Sammy Hagar said a dispute over the forthcoming Van Halen greatest-hits album led to his departure from the band after 11 years as lead vocalist. ``I was basically fired,'' said Hagar. ``I feel terrible about it. I think we had the greatest band in the world. I was looking so forward to starting a new record.'' Hagar said he received the news from guitarist Eddie Van Halen over the phone last week that he was being replaced by the band's original lead vocalist, David Lee Roth. ``After 11 years of hearing the worst stories in the world about this guy,'' said the Mill Valley resident over the phone from Hawaii, ``I turned my back and Edward and (Roth) are in the studio together.'' Hagar said a heated dispute arose over the greatest-hits album, for which the band was offered what Hagar would only call ``a lot'' of money by Warner Bros., the group's record label. ``I didn't want to do it,'' said Hagar. ``Why become a nostalgia act just because KISS is back on the road? But their manager was shoving it down their throats with big fat dollar bills.'' Ray Daniels, brother-in-law of drummer Alex Van Halen, assumed management responsibilities for the band after the 1993 death of Van Halen's longtime manager Ed Lefler. Hagar, whose new wife gave birth to a daughter on April 1, was not eager to record new tracks for an album he didn't think the band should do, but he did agree to write and record two songs for the soundtrack to the movie ``Twister.'' At the last minute, Hagar said, Daniels informed Hagar that one of the songs intended for the soundtrack would instead be used on the greatest-hits album. ``They tricked me into doing a song for the greatest-hits album, which I didn't want to do in the first place. That's where the bad blood started. Next thing I knew they pulled David Lee Roth in because supposedly I wasn't co-operating. ``Eddie said to me, `You were always the solo artist. Go back to being a solo artist. We're jamming with rock,' '' Hagar said in describing how he got the news that Roth was back and he was out. Hagar was lead vocalist for hard rockers Montrose and had million-selling solo albums before joining Van Halen. Hagar spent nearly as many years as Roth with the band, which sold more records during Hagar's tenure as lead vocalist. Hagar said fan reaction in the band's online bulletin board has been one of outrage. ``We spent 11 years developing a whole new audience for this band,'' he said, ``telling everybody what a bad guy this Roth was. It has to be a big disappointment for the `Van Hagar' fans.'' Hagar said he's already received offers from major bands looking for vocalists.

I think Bach should have replaced Dickinson, he woulda been perfect to sing for maiden, anyone else heard that small clip of Skid Row's Version for Children of the Damned? I would have loved to hear that song live. THe best part about this, is that he doesn't get throat infections :)
Bach in Van Halen...wouldn't work although he sure as hell has the energy for it.
Bach in DT...I can see it, on a song like Lie, or the mirror, even stuff off of Dream or Images, he could do it and do it well. I've seen him live, he's fucking incredible.

The funniest thing I heard was when Rock 104 in the San Joaquin Valley bought 95.1 KDJK (used to be AOR, but they went to alternative some time back) and simply moved to the 95.1 frequency. I turned on 104.1 and it was *all Elvis*!!! I thought it was a joke. The next day, I'm at the laundromat, FM channel-surfing in my car, and during a commercial the DJ says, "And coming up in the next hour... moooore Elvis," NO JOKE. It was funny as hell. The following week they became one of those adult-contemporary stations that are spreading like a disease across the land...

Hello Jammers,
Interesting new topic at last, CDs I have purchased without hearing any of the songs on them.
1. Sarah McLachlan - Fumbling Towards Ecstacy
A friend was really into her and recommended this CD, we have similar musical tastes (about every genre is in our collections) so I bought it. Great CD, Tori fans should dig this.
2. Death - Symbolic
After hearing so much about this band on a.r-n-r.m.p I picked up this disk. Great technical ability, a bit more growling than I can deal with, otherwise a great disk.
3. Machines of Loving Grace - Guilt
I heard their song on the Crow soundtrack and liked it, so I picked up the CD. Haven't got it from Columbia House yet.
4. King Crimson - Red
Another CD that got great reviews, I figured that I should try something by this highly praised band. Since then I have bought all of their disks (except Islands).
5. Kings X - Gretchen Goes to Nebraska
My favorite Kings X disk, I picked it up despite hearing Faith Love Hope which I thought was really annoying. Brilliant concept, nice songs and great vocal harmonies.
6. Porcupine Tree - The Sky Moves Sideways
Another band that came highly recommended, this CD was fantastic, I got it two weeks ago and it has been the most played disk over that period of time. I got to meet them on Saturday before seeing them live at Progscape. Fans of Pink Floyd, King Crimson, and Nine Inch Nails can't go wrong with this one.
There are others since a lot of the music I listen to doesn't get airplay but I could be here forever listing CDs, I would have that anyone who responds to this thread gives a short description so that the thread doesn't turn into a list of album names.
Later,
Mike
