It's all to easy to forget sometimes. Growing up being a BIG
Iron Maiden fan, I've distanced myself from the music. So the
other day I was in a used CD store and saw "Live After Death".
Bought it up in a flash, and man,...does it ROCK!
It would be nice to see DT play a Maiden tune when they go on
the next tour. Boy would I love that!!!

I'm trying to find Fates Warning lyrics for Chasing Time and their

checked the ftp.netcom.com directory that most of the WWW pages point
to, but there is nothing there.

Just wanted to make a few comments, some DTC, others not...
First, DTC... I probably will make it to Ytsecon III this year... I
will be able to give people rides from Boston... I need to wait until
the school year starts before I know for sure... since I will be a
grad student, and have to TA, grade, etc...
Next, I looked at the KTS web page, and saw that they have a new Rush
release on their page.
Next, will the person using some sort of MIME encoding stop it!!!
Thats o the person using Misrosoft Email, acording to the attached
files that I am getting...
Finally, run, do not walk, to go see ID4... Absolutly incredible
movie... and when you are done, try to see the special on HBO's First
Looks... it has some stuff on the special effects... such as the
fact thatthe white house model cost ~$50,000 and is 1:12 scale, or 14
feet wide, and looks to be about as tall as a person...

You really think so? Awright! DMB kix. :-)
BTW...am I the only one that thought the Visual Music thread was the most
fun that's been had on here since Jam #979 (when I joined)? <hopeful grin>
>Yes and no. There's something along the lines of "Orthodox prog" -- people

I just saw that my dad has CttE on vinyl! Of course, I only find it AFTER
I've bought the CD. But that's okay....1. I like Fragile better and 2. the
record player's broken/missing a needle.

And Ben did try to rob him of it....but it was no use.
>I just love when dt goes off on those funky jazz tangents ...
>i.e. ending of TTT live (antiquities), especially the end of TLF (LiT,
>WDaTU) ... petrucci and everyone else has this great jazzy style ...
I dunno. TTT is more funky than jazzy..and the end of TLF (did we ever
figger out what that instrumental was called?) on LiT is kinda a new age
rock/funk thing that turns bluesy when he starts playing with his fingers. I
guess blues and jazz aren't _too_ far apart. Another real DT jazzism is the
beginning of Scarred. I love that intro. I <sniff> wish it could go on
forever. The UaGM guitar solo is also a little bluesy.
What the hell is with these people sending files to the Jam?! It DOESN'T WORK!
Suck it up.

Man, my sentiments exactly! Bernd, hats off to you and the others in
the band! I feel as happy that more prog music will be on the shelves
as I do because someone I know (well, sorta :) MADE IT! That's so
cool. Here's my question: I don't have a Superior CD yet because I'm a
dumbshit. Should I still order it from that place that was mentioned
last month, or is it better to wait for it to hit stores?

Message-ID: <Pine.SOL.3.91.960708200458.12819A-100000@general2.asu.edu>
some of you quoted the little tidbit between jon and i and i would just
like to clear up some misconceptions. i understand that many times
people preach here on the jam, on the contrary i am simply writing this
to explain what a real dt fan is.
first, there should be no measure or caliber of a fan (yes i recall the
subject of this post). second, i have been a fan for two years now and
have never been so content in a band's emotion, intelligence, and almost
incomparable skill that is embedded within their music. i have been on
the jam since november of 95 and i love it. there are some cool
people that i will probably never meet (e.g. mike bahr, mojo, d-man, and
any others that i may not have mentioned) but wish i could. we all know
that these guys are the ones that make the jam more enjoyable because
they are real dt fans (no, mikeb isn't giving me a free cd to post this).
i consider myself a real dt fan because i am the only one out of all of
my friends that loves dream theater and shows it. i may not possess all the
intricate knowledge of dt or memorabilia (sp?) but i think the fact
that i
always defend dt when they're put down by my friends or anyone else that
can't hear them cries fandom (i tend to make up words). i am that person
that never shuts up about dt (like now). i am
that person that has tears streaming down his face every time he sings
along to surrounded, ltl, or acos. when i am in a friend's (even a new
aquaintance's) car i always try to pursuade them to listen to dt.
sometimes i get to aggessive with the stereo that my friends get "sick"
of dt (impossible).
i would love to drape myself in dt attire, posters, or any other shit that
says "dream theater" or has the majesty symbol on it--but i can't because
it just doesn't exist in a world that loves piece of shit groups that you
never hear of (and when you _do_ hear
them they are talentless). however, groups like dt that should be in
every store, on every station, and everywhere in concert are not. why?
society thinks they don't fit aestetically (sp????). it just pisses me
off when a group like dt comes around and just because they got a shit
deal at the start (mechanic) and not that much publicity, they are
placed at the bottom of the pile. the way i feel is that my friends can
say anything they want about dt because until the day i die i will never
doubt dt --never. Balls and Chunk is where it's at.
well, to conclude and let you get on with reading the jam, i didn't mean
to ramble, but i simply do not think that the measure of a fan is his
intelligence or possesions. from a musician's point of view, dt is the
future of music. i really hope that you (yes YOU) do not believe that there
are guidelines or regulations to being a fan of dt. it would be an oxymoron.
P.S. the jam needs to be more of a family and less of a panel on
the Maclauglin group
P.S.S glad to have you all as friends.
until next time........

I just spoke with Steve Johnson on the phone... The MytseCon has not
exactly been canceled yet. There will still be a gathering of 'Jammers
in Chicago, although it may und up being on a smaller scale.
The hotel will still accept group reservations up until Friday, but after
that, the price will jump back up about $40 to the original price. If
you plan to go to the Con, please call now and make your reservations
under Steve Johnson's name, if you wait, it will cost you more.
If you were planning on attending the Con to begin with, please don't
change your plans, we still want as many people as possible there. Juse
be sure to make your reservations ASAP.
As far as the shirts I was having printed, that project has been
postponed. I still hope to print the shirst if there is enough interest,
but it will be a Ytsejam shirt, rather than just a Con shirt. I'll keep
you informed as things go, and ask for input when the time comes.
Once again, the hotel's # is (312)525-7010. Don't delay on this if you
plan to go. Later all. :)
