The following appeared in Ytsejam #1673:
>I mentioned a top 50 prog album list that was on the prog newsgroup a while
>back. It is a tad out of date, but here it is anyway:
[...]
>10. Moody Blues: _Days of Future Passed_
"Cold hearted orb that rules the night..."
Wow... I'm glad to see these guys finally really mentioned somewhere.
I can't ever recall seeing the Moodies mentioned in the 'jam before.
It was actually some non-prog listeners that encourged me to pick up
some albums, as I've always loved "Nights in White Satin" (especially
the full version, not the chopped up radio one). This definitely
should be higher than their other albums since it's sort of their
"Wall" or "Operation:Mindcrime."
>26. Moody Blues: _To Our Childrens..._ (can't remeber the rest)
"To Our Children's Children"
>29. Moody Blues: _Every Good Boy Deserves Favour_
More Moodies. :)
>38. Kate Bush: _Hounds of Love_
I didn't know that Kate was considered proggy. I recently picked up
"The Whole Story." The only song of hers I'd heard before this blind
purchase (although highly recommended by others) was "Don't Give Up," a
duet with Peter Gabriel.

Agreed, but if you note the "wanker" thread, fusion players tend to be wanky which
lowers their status on r.m.p. That is why I didn't put Mahavishnu in the first
category. Gong and Gentle Giant also have a large number of followers and few
dissenters.
> 2) Ozric Tentacles as "derivitive?" Of who?
Gong, at least in some of the sounds produced. I think that they groove a lot heavier
than the earlier iterations of Gong, but some effects have a very Gongish styling.

Yes, but they are also defended in general for having good albums. Are we discussing
where bands are now in popularity on r.m.p based upon their current lineups or a
historical thing. I am ranking them based upon the whole history of the band, not based
upon where I think today's versions of the band should be.

And the quote that I stated is lifted right off of a.m.p and r.m.p. Rush was a band
that I could get into from a rock radio background that introduced me to new musical
ideas, which eventually lead me to prog. I agree that they tended to add the "edge"
missing in many of the bands (though I have always thought of Yes in the mid-1970s as
being kinda heavy at times, as well as King Crimson)
Later,
Mike

Hello fellow music lovers. This is my debut so here it goes. . .
I've been a DT fan since I&W was released. I appreciate all types of
music and I thought I'd share something with you. I just got a cd called
Vanessa-Mae: The Violin player. It is an all instrumental techno-prog
album. This 17 year old woman fuses electric violin with guitars and
keyboards. very cool. Check it. Another thing before i part. . .I live
way out here in San Diego. . .any chanse that DT will play out here?

Fuck that, man. If you think you're a DT fan, you're a DT fan. Obviously, if
you don't think you're a DT fan, then you're not, because a being a fan of
something is a voluntary choice on your part. If you think you're a fan,
then the voluntary choice you made is YES. A two page description (which I

Hi all!
First of all, I'd like to thank you all for your congrats for our
deal. I just can't tell you how happy we are...
So here are a few details, as they were requested:
The CD will be out in September/October. I don't know a date 'til now.
If I get it, I'll let you know.
They want to have our _4_ next CDs too. :) First we didn't want
to bind us that long but then they simply took all the restrictions
we gave them and there we are. :)
D-Man, I'd suggest you to wait 'til the CD is in the stores if you
want to save some money. Ordering it from those mail-order guys will
cost you at least $23 or so and I think that's way too much. On
the other hand, if you don't want to wait... just like you
want it. :)
Right now the CD can be ordered at
EmpireEnt@aol.com or
apocalypse@marlin.intelli-net.com
They sell it in the USA and Canada...
Ok, thank you all again.
Bye.
Bernd.

Yes, I have finally felt the urge (geez, that garnered a few groans) to say
something here.
I've been a subscriber for a few (read: 3) weeks to the Jam, and I've been a
fan of Dream Theater for quite some time.
I kind of wanted to comment on the "real" DT fan thread - it's kind of sad
when you resort to belittling others because they don't know as much about a
certain topic as you do. Granted, sometimes this is justified (such as when
the person is obviously clueless as hell and posts in a degenerate fashion)
but hey, the guy had a valid question that didn't merit being blasted.
Re : the person who came back with the "When in Rome" thing - touche! I
thought that was definetly a good call. The rest of the CD (can't remember
the name now) kind of bites, from what I remember.
Re : DT stuff - I'm creating (yet another) Dream Theater page to go with my
personal homepages. Hopefully, I'll get them done in a publishable state
soon, but if you've got any cool DT pix, backstage passes, ticket stubs,
etc. that you've scanned in, mail them over or whatnot and I'll see if I can
stick them somewhere. Ditto for Satriani and Rush, who also have separate pages.

Morning all
Boy, am I pissed off at the moment. The guy I live with has just ripped me off
big time. He's got a new job in Switzerland, and he came back at the weekend to
pick up his stuff from the house. I was away celebrating my birthday with some
friends (happy birthday to me), and you can imagine my joy and surprise on
returning to find the motherfucker had taken my TV and VCRs. If any Swiss
jammers fancy earning a few SFR on the side, drop me a line. I just had to get
that of my chest.
OK, now to more pleasurable things - it's Neil's CD tips time again, and the
first one is a real winner (10/10).
Dearly Beheaded - Temptation
Quite simply the best debut album by any band since Machine Head released "Burn
My Eyes". This album has it all - the drive and riffs of Machine Head, the
groove of Pantera, the rhythm of Sepultura, the best lead/rhythm guitar
combination since Paradise Lost. This album is what metal is about and how it
should be. And best of all - Dearly Beheaded are an English band. British metal
rears its ugly head again. If you like any of the bands I just mentioned, you
will like this album. Go get it NOW.
End Of Green - Infinity
A new German band this time. End Of Green are a doom/gothic band that manage to
combine elements of bands like Celestial Season, Monster Magnet and Kyuss with
standard doom/gothic riffs and still come out with a sound that is clearly
their own. This album is not as gloomy as some of the other stuff of this genre
and I think End Of Green will be a band to watch out for in the future.
Paradise Lost - Shades of God
Certainly not a new release, but an album I needed to complete the set. "Shades
of God" represents a transition between the old Paradise Lost (definately doom/
death with simple riffs and lots of grunting vocals) and the new (clearer and
more powerful vocals, better structured songs, improved guitar work). For some
reason, this album is quite dificult to find here.
Skyclad - Prince of the Poverty Line
Again not new, but none the worse for it. Somewhat heavier than the last two
albums, and dominated by Martin Walkyier's madcap vocals. Further proof that
English metal doesn't start and end with Iron Maiden (yuk).
Don't just sit there, go out and buy some of this stuff, bung it in your CD
player, crank up the volume, and annoy the neighbors.
Minimal Dream Theater content: I can't watch my copy of "Live in Tokio" anymore.
Just wait till I catch that bastard!
stay safe and happy listening

Hello,
I've been recieving attachments with the last few JAMS. What and why are they? All I know for sure is they ain't any file format I can recognize. PKZIP, ARJ, RAR. LHA, TXT, GIF, JPG, ect. I've tested 'em all and there is no match. That attachments are not very big, some only 5 - 8 eight lines in length, but I would like to know what they are and if they can be stopped.
BTW I do wish to express a concurrent view on these BASE-64 postings, CUT IT OUT! Anyone who wants these things ask for 'em by E-MAIL, don't post them in here.
That's all and it was sooooooo interesting.

Does anyone besides Brian have all of the Christmas DT Shows on DAT. I have contacted him a couple of times and he hasn't replied. I would be interested in trading with someone. Please email if you would be interested in working out a trade.

whazzup with this MIME stuff? now it's affecting msgs with subject "help in locating CDs" also.......do something, Skadz :)
i was real worried like when i saw the anti-Roman DAV come back with a "WHAT A REAL DT FAN IS" (or something like that) subject, caps and all....but that was a cool, albeit maudlin post.....
what was that that Rodney King said?

Hi! I'm Keiji from Japan.
I've heard new song from Michael Schenker. It's an instrumental song dedicated to his daughter, titled 'Essence'. I like this. He rocks! He's been out of rock scene. His previous material UFO's "Walk On Water" was very averaged album. Very forgetable album, don't you think that, too? But his new band (of course MSG) featuring members of ex-Great King Rat (vox), ex-Yngwie (bass, drums) will be nice.
MSG "Written In The Sand" will be out 1996-08-28 from Master Volume Project (Zero Corp.).
Thanks.
