Hey all. I've spent long enough lurking, so I decided to get off my duff and do something for the list.
I'm embarking on what might be considered an arduous project. I want to create and maintain the OFFICIAL YTSEJAM HOMEPAGE. Specifically, I want to keep a set of links to Jammers' homepages across the WWW.
I know that there are a few #ytsejam homepages out there already. I just want to be able to maintain something complete and up-to-date.
So, if you have a homepage on the web that you're proud of (or one that you aren't proud of), send ME an E-mail (schnoor@SpiritOne.com) and give me:
Your Full Name: Your E-Mail: Your Homepage URL: Your DT-IRC Nickname (if applicable): And, if you want, a quick (2 to 5 line) description of yerself.
A JPEG or GIF portrait of yourself would be nice as well, preferably something that can be cropped and/or resized to 128x128 pixels. Please don't E-mail that, though. :) If I don't get a picture, or if I can't find one on your pages, I'll give you an ugly red Question-Mark instead.
If you've already talked to me on IRC about this, send your info in to me anyway.
To send me E-mail, compose a message to schnoor@SpiritOne.com (NOT this address), with a subject of "YTSE-WEB your_name", and include the info requested above.
If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or words of warning (if you've tried to do this before), feel free to E-mail me at this address (schnoor@cs.pdx.edu).
Thanks, all. I'll be awaiting your mail,

Well, I know it's been a little while since I've posted, but between getting fired and looking for a new job, things have been more than marginally nuts around here. Anyway, just a quick thing about radio airplay and all that neat crapola. Someone last 'jam mentioned a station that played "Alice's Restauraunt" for something like two days straight. Well, in the Hannibal (MO)/Quincy (IL) area where I used to go to college, a new station started a little over a year ago. On their first day of broadcasting, they played KISS's version of "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" for 24 hours straight. This station (103.9 WMOS "The Moose") actually played a pretty decent mix of stuff (heck, I even heard DT and Megadeth). I don't know if they still do, but last I listened, it was still going pretty well (though it had been a while since I heard DT on there). It kind of made up for the station in the area that went from classic rock to mainstream pop. And to the guy who wanted to bomb the country stations: Whatever kind of help you want, you can count on me (though you'd have to help me get rid of the country and rap stations in St. Louis). Have a happy day :).

Independence Day... how COOL! And the trailer for a new Trek movie to boot. I like it! This is one of those rare movies that just leaves you yearning to see more...
TORI AMOS "INSIDE THE STORM" ordering is now OPEN. Same address as usual, no need to reserve in advance, price US $20 per disc. Postage is as mentioned in my updates. E-mail me if you're not sure.
The show was interesting. Security was VERY tight... I had a guard looking directly at me the entire time so I couldn't prepare the DAT until the beginning of Horses (the opener). An obsessed fan tried to grab or hit or do something unsavory to Tori at the beginning of Upside Down, and he did it right in the dark so that she yelped in fright, but the guards beat the shit out of him and that was that. Some DORK in the audience was yelling out "woo! woo!" at the worst possible times, during Me And A Gun and Precious Things, so that hoses them from the CD. Tori's voice was strong and she even played a few requests. A very positive, very friendly vibe pervaded throughout the performance. Alas, no sign of "Winter", every DT fan's favourite Tori song.
Here's the early preliminary info for Inside The Storm. I taped the show successfully and the sound quality is SUPERB. At least as good as Over The Europe; possibly as good as the Earthquakes live video. Thanks to James Runde for lending me the Core mics to do it with, he just finagled himself a mention in the credits! :) The setlist was AMAZING, there are some songs that _will_ be on the CD, and the rest will be included as space permits (74 minute limit) in the order they were originally played at the show.
Tori Amos "Inside The Storm" - source: audience DAT master Symphony Hall, Phoenix, Arizona - July 2, 1996, second show
Included no matter what, unless severe sound problems ===================================================== I'm On Fire (Springsteen cover) Etienne part 1 (played when a girl screamed out for her to play it!) Yes Anastasia (fantastic!) Space Dog Talula (Tornadoes) (unbelievably good rendition of this) Upside Down (Tori gets accosted by an obsessed fan at the beginning, and it makes for a powerful rendition of this tune) Twinkle Father Lucifer
Included as space permits, also dependent on quality ==================================================== Horses (sound level fluctuations, opener, had to set up DAT) Precious Things (possibly the best performance ever of this song, ruined by some doofus in the audience who had to scream out repeatedly) Leather (more of that doofus ruining things) Me And A Gun (and again, the doofus) Caught A Lite Sneeze Frog On My Toe Purple Rain China Cornflake Girl (runs a bit long and is very common) Not The Red Baron (sound flickering when I had to hide the DAT from usher)
I think that covers the entire set, not in order though. As with Critical Mass, the liner will properly credit Tori, while the CD itself will be painted a bit more generically. Orders are open, send to:
Mike Bahr, 3175 N. Price Rd. #1066, Chandler, AZ 85224
Take it easy everyone! Can anyone pass this info on to the Tori list, or better yet, tell me how to subscribe? I think this is the sort of thing those folks will be interested in...

The main U2-content in LSoaD is the guitar-playing. JLB is pretty much DT-style in this song. The delay on the guitar makes a lot for it sounding like U2. BTW, JM's intro with the use of harmonies is beautiful. On his vid, he plays a 2 min long instrumenatl "Solar Groove" with also superb harmonics combinations (chords).

Nothing!

That's because you're YELLING the whole time at everyone on this jam. I mean you've been posting more than that IBMMAIL thing lately to yell at everyone. Let Skadz do that.

>>And I listen openly.... >>>Ben Laussade >> >>..and he listens openly > >I never said I listened openly. I was quoting John Myung.
He must listen openly to speak so little...
BTW, if you're quoting someone, then QUOTE!!!!!. For instance:
And I listen openly... (JM) Ben Laussade
>The one that bothers me is the one with the girl talking in SDV. "I can...go >to the mall whenever I want...no one to tell me blah blah blah blah". It >just gets boring. From my point of view, the samples should be there to add >to the music..not to be the main show, like they are in that part.
It's like the samples on the original ACoS and the final version. On the latter, the smaples are somewhat muddier (not only does this have to do with volume but also with EQ). Unless you're listening thru headphones, it's more annoying than anything else.
Now for something else...

Isn't it the fact that you refute a rumour before it's out that gets it going?

Hello everyone, it's BABS. Seeing posts like the above only seems to confirm my biggest fears as well. Let me further explain, we had a classic rock station in Rochester that was just fantastic. It would pull out stuff from the Woodstock album (i.e. Canned Heat, Janus Joplin, etc.) and it was just great. I absolutely loved it. There was hardly any repeat during the day. Then it was totally reformatted and it now plays all that bubble gum stuff from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Meanwhile another station came out that had classic rock and I'm thinking "oh good this will be great" - WRONG! It does the same thing that Mike posted about - always playing the same old songs. It's like the station went out and bought the whole Time Life Series of Great Hits and it just sits there on the turntable (oops, showing my age here - sits in the cd player) and is in some endless loop. Certain bands like Rush, Pink Floyd, Boston (all big selling acts of the late 70's and early 80's get totally lost in the shuffle, and even the Beatles who had tons of releases and made many different musical changes through their career - get only the same song played again and again - it's really sad.

I think this is a plain old rumor. Last week when the Hagar leaving VH hit, the morning show here in Baltimore on 97.9 were like "Lets start a rumor". They came up with the Sammy Hagar joing STP...

Shit, this dude is SO RIGHT!!! Here is a station that plays all thats listed above, and other REAL METAL material from a bunch of smaller bands.
A while ago (6-8 years ago), They used to play old DT and once featured Meanstreak. Meanstreak was (is? if they are still together..) a metal chick band. The name of their album was Road Kill. On the cover, is a picture of a guy laying under the front of a '66 Nova SS, in a cemetery. That guy is my best friend, whose brother was the drummer in a band called Allied Forces, and his wife (now ex-wife) was in Meanstrteak...the COOL part is that Petrucci's wife Marlene was in Meanstreak too. And Allied, MS, DT, and others all plyed at the same gigs together back in the mid to late 80's........just a little trivia.. and yes, WSOU fuckin' ROCKS!!!!

Hey all,
There may not be any DTC here, but there is PC (no, not Politically Correct...Prog Content!!).
I'm relatively new to the prog scene, though i've liked Rush since Moving Pictures, Fates Warning since Awaken the Guardian, and DT since WDADU. But it's refreshing to see so many new and different bands being discussed here, bands i previously never heard of and still haven't heard anything by, such as Echolyn, Superior, Shadow Gallery, et. al.
There are, however, a few questions i'd like to pose. First of all, what exactly constitutes "progressive" metal/rock? Who was the first prog group/artist? Finally, what would you consider the most indispensable/influential prog albums not including any from the groups i've listed above?
Sorry if this has all been discussed before on the jam, since i'm relatively new and i might have missed this thread at the beginning. But i think there's alot of us newbies and i think all would enjoy discussing this topic.
Thanx, Tim

It seems like these days that there aren't anymore heavy rock on the radio. Everybody that was once cool ( Q 104.3 .... WRCN ) has changed their formats for the worst. The only cool station still around is 92.3 They better not change or there will be no cool stations to listen to anymore. Also for those who haven't seen ID4, Go see it ASAP. It is awesome.
