    >Well, that was me (surprise!).I said a while ago that I could get VERY good

    >go ahead and book some time. But I doubt the Las Vegas and Los Angeles
    >subscribers are gonna say "sure, I'll be down there in no time".

I European personally don't give a fuck where this is, obviously. I've
always wanted to visit Montreal, BTW.

    >repertoire, are we? If we do, say, eight songs, that means 40 musicians. No
    >more.

yeah, 8 should be a max.

    >Also, there'll be no legal problems. If we don't write the lyrics, if we
    >credit DT as the composers, the only problems we might have is with the
    >publishing rights. You see, DT are members of ASCAP (American Society of
    >Composers, Authors and Publishers).the way it works is when DT write a
    >song, they have the publishing rights to it, meaning that every time one of
    >those songs is transcribed, played on the radio or the lyrics are written
    >down, the get royalties. But since we're not out to make money with this
    >tribute album, it can be kept silent and we can each have a copy. If we
    >press only 1000 cd's, there shouldn't be any problems. We don't have a
    >record deal for this tribute, so it's not like we should take all these
    >aspects seriously.

True, but we'll still have to pay "media" rights, i.e. the right to press
their songs on the recording media. On our CD, we did one cover, less than
5 minutes (this 5 minute limit is important, since the rates are
categorized in 0-5, 6-10 minute slices, etc.) and had to pay for pressing
rights (1000 CDs), something like 200 Swiss Francs (150 USD?). That was for
one song, and less than 5 minutes. With DT, it's (let's say) 8 songs, and
almost all above 5 minutes. I don't know if ASCAP works like SUISA, though.

    > I just had a thought about the tribute. Everyone is bitching

So we've come to the conclusion that we're gonna move the YtseCon to
Montreal and do the tribute there. Thank you very much for your attention.

    N O T !!!!!

Seriously, it's a very good idea, but then again, we should move the studio
    from Montreal to the Con.

    I need some coffee.

To Dave King, wondering about what Rush to get.
(Please forgive me, but I can't reply like normal when I'm home.) You
asked whether to get Chronicles because it has "2112" on it. It only has
the first two parts. If you're looking to hear the whole thing, get the
album _2112_ or the live album _All the World's a Stage_ which has a
slightly abridged, but totally butt-stompin' version on it.

Um, see you guys tomorrow at the JP clinic!!!!! Woohoo!!!!!! (New York
rules. Now all we gotta do is get a good radio station again.)

(didn't even get the tickets until Sunday morning). I saw someone wearing a
Dream Theater shirt (from the Home for the Holidays U.S. shows in December).

I guess because you can't go then others shouldn't be able to do the
tribute at the con? 2 birds can be killed with one stone. The con and the
tribute. This is the best idea I have seen.

Of Rage And War is quite possibly the worst vocal performance ever
screeched in the history of the world, and the rest of the album isn't much
better. EOT is very cool. Probably not quite as good as HOR, but with
better vocals. GB was extremely disappointing, though. I usually enjoy
music for the intrumentation, but I just can't ignore vox that bad. I'm
glad he quit. I wish Alek Skolnik would come back. Maybe Exhibition A
(his other band) will be good if they ever get signed.

    Bad news.

It seems according to some reliable sources that this tour is next best thing to canned. It seems that the three wouldn't agree as to playing times. They all wanted to headline. They wouldn't agree to alternate or anything. This sort of bummed me out. I thought they'd be above such petty concerns.

On my way to work today, I was listenning to the ONLY decent music on the air here in the NY Metro area in the AM, WSOU, and the DJ said "and this is Galactic Cowboys".

Now I have never heard this band before, and would never even have heard OF them if not for the JAM. So I get to work, and this tune is sounding pretty cool, so I sit in my parked car to finish the song (of course I am late, as usual for a Monday Morning, but I've got priorities). Anyway, the singer kept saying "I'm not amused" if that is any clue to which song it was.

I was impressed! These guys obviously have a good sound. One thing though, I cannot point to any part of the song that I did not like, but the SONG, as a whole, did not seem to work. The song seemed like two distinct songs sewn together. The changes are quite stark at times (similiar to some of the abrupt changes in ACoS). Now, again, I liked all the parts of the song, it just seemed kind of awkward. Can someone tell me if this song is a good sample of the band? I think that this band is closer to what I like than some others I have read about here (like Echolyn, or Magellan), sort of on the same wavelength as DT or FW. No EXCESSIVE banging, but just enough to get you going and strong musical themes (please excuse my lack of 'lingo' as I am not a musician, but I knows what I likes).

That is what is great about the JAM, If you pay attention, every band in the world will be mentioned, and if it is any good, it will continue to be mentioned, and eventually, you may hear something, and because it was a topic here, you pay it a little closer attention, and voila, you have a new band to get into. (unfortunately, a LOT of good bands DO NOT get mentioned here much, but that is where we each go off on our own tangents).

    Speaking of tangents...

First off, prick boy, good luck getting this thing together. Second, it's quite naive to think that whoever will run this whole gig will just fork over the cash to do this project and not expect reimbursement. Who do you think will take the flack if this should be pursued by Warner Bros.? Are you a lawyer?

    > >Sorry if reality isn't CONSTRUCTIVE enough for you, but this game > >plan ain't gonna roll. Not yet anyway. > > Sorry....but FUCK YOU! You punk ass waste of time. The reason I said that is that you're a real big shot thinking that we're going to have to only offer ideas which are CONSTRUCTIVE to your little plan. I don't feel I owe you that. I see a host of flaws in your plan for getting this cd together, and I'll be damned if I'm going to let any jammers risk travelling out to Bufu to record on something that they'll never hear, or worse getting sued by a huge record label because nobody pointed out that this isn't as simple as you want it to be. I think that in general all the jammers know that this isn't going to happen as you have it planned, but on the chance that I was wrong I offered my criticism. You don't like it? Censor me.

You don't understand the music business that well. DT may not have the right to authorize the use of their music in this form.

    > >He's a better percussionist > >on guitar than almost any drummer I've ever heard is. > > Whoa whoa whoa....drums and guitar are two different instruments..let's not > go saying that Al DiMeola is a great drummer, because playing guitar only > involves keeping two limbs in time together, whereas drumming requires all > four (unless you're Larz :-). I'm not saying drums are harder than guitar, > because guitar requires dexterity with your fingers. But, they ARE too > different to compare in that manner.

Again, I see that you lack comprehension. When you get your head out of your ass maybe you'll realize that drums and percussion are not necessarily the same thing. Now, in Al DiMeola's case, you wad of shit, :) he is a guitarist/percussionist/drummer. Al can play drums if you want to take it to that level, but what I was saying is that he plays percussion on most of his albums. He can play percussion on guitar or conga or whatever you give him. I was using this to demonstrate the point that rhythm and time are not unique to drummers and bassists. I was also stating that he can create better percussion on a guitar than most drummers I know of can with one instrument. I didn't "Go saying Al is a great drummer" as you have so wonderfully mistaken. But maybe I should have. He is.

    > Not too many drummers play guitar.

You don't get out much, do you? > The sound quality would suffer soooo baaaaad.

Stop the world. Mark can't make it to YtseCon. If you can't make it to YtseCon, what were you going to do the the DT tribute cd. Or were we just going to come to you.

I apologize to you jammers for taking up bandwidth with this, but I don't see that I deserved to be flamed by this moron. I thought it best to reply. I won't reply to any more of his flames on the jam, for your sake. As far as the jam is concerned, I will let this issue die. If anyone wants to complain about something I said, send it in e mail. Mark, or Ben or whatever your name is... don't waste my time.

hehe don't i wish. no, our fav bassist and myself share the same first name; we both play bass; we both have long hair and that's probly where the similarities end. i'll get around to renaming the page...eventually.

anyways, why would JM have his page on a university's machine...in virginia? :)

I just came back from the JP clinic in NY!!!!! It was awesome!! He played with DS on Lost Without You!! Correct me if that isn't the name. Some guy next to me kept talking about how he hated STP! :P JP also played Lines In The Sand!!! Again correct me if I'm wrong. :( That was without a doubt the best song or instrumental(don't know what it is yet) I've ever heard!! :) Or maybe it was just seeing him play it!!! It doesn't matter it was AWESOME!!! JP also said, "Wacko, wacko, wacko"!! ;-) I got his autograph and everything!!! Hey JP said he was going to Providence, RI, this Wednesday!! Everyone who is living in the nearby area(like all NorthEastern US) should go to it!!! He played some music from a pinball game on Sega!!! Also I have raison to believe that JP is among us on the 'jam!! :) He knew about, us knowing about his instrumental question!! This time he changed it though!!! Just a little bit!! He also asks what the time sigs on the songs that he plays are in!! Heh, cheating is fun!! ;)Hey JP if you're reading this...great clinic, I mean that!!! Oh JP get more chairs or even more couches!!!! Hey, all you guys in the front were getting made fun of by that loser that kept talking about STP!! I say we hunt him down and kill him!! ;) Oh, all most forgot JP says he likes what KevMo is doing now! Don't know if that's a good or a bad thing, yet!!! I'm going to get that soon enough!!! Even if you don't play guitar you can learn from the clinic!! He talks about panios, (wicked) violins :) , drums, pretty much everything (someone even asked if he sings on the next CD!!) :) I'll leave that for someone else to talk about!! Hey anyone know if JM is going clinics anytime soon? Also, is MP coming back to the NYC area anytime soon? John P.S. Oh yeah, some guy give JP a bootleg to sign!! What an idiot!! ;) It wasn't even a Mike Bahr!! :)
