In a message dated 96-07-28 01:06:07 EDT, you write:

<< and Wicked Maraya's Cycles album, just because Jaime the Dragon mentioned
that name on here a few times.....listening to it right now, and it's pretty
cool, thanks for the tip, Jaime (is she on the Jam over the summer?) >>

Yes, she is, and she's mighty glad to hear that. So is the band, I imagine.
:D For anyone who missed my last post, check out their Web page:

While I'm on the subject, I got an interview with their singer, Lou Falco,
and I'm currently waiting for their bassist, John Iadevaio, to send me his
reponses - soon as he does, issue 14 of the fanzine will be ready to go.
(Ever going to send me that review, D-Man? ;)

Byebye!! :-)

Beefquad-X sounds cool. Do ya already have all the guitarists you need? I seem to remember being there during the conception of the idea of a band started over the Net... I also seem to remember coming uo with a name... The Self-titled Band i recall it was.

    > So, do you guys think that a band who wrote and recorded an album > solely on the internet would get a lot of hype and/or money? If we had > proper advertising, of course...but do you think it would happen?

No. That doesn't mean I'm against the idea, however (I just applied for the band!! :) You DID say that you're not doing this for the money...

    > >I don't care if you're Eddie Fucking Van Halen....God didn't put a > >perfect metronome in > >anyones head!!!! > > Unless he dropped it on them from really high up somewhere.

Yeah, those things are pointy, if he droped it upside down... But then it wouldn't be perfect, I mean, once it hit the guy's head, it would probably get like screwed up and stuff.

    > > >Feel is bullshit!!! When you are a professional....and you are cutting > >something > > That is going to remain on tape forever...you put a click in!!! > > > > You forgot to add "...if you want to." Hod do ya know that a drummer's knocking at your door? The knock slows down. :)

    > >throw away your pride...a click is a necassary tool in todays > >recording....We're not recording > >Robert Johnson with a turntable and a suspended can mike.... > > Yeah, but we ARE recording Beefquad-X with Pocket Recorder and a crappy > microphone.

Pocket Recorder!! Yea! It doesn't fit in your pocket tho... well, unless you have one of those palm-tops...

i would like the beefquad-x wav and i would like the entire ytsejam community to know that i want it. So there, unsub me for wasting bandwith, why doncha. :)

So, I'm for the live recording idea.

Damn, I am in debt right now, I don't know how much money I'd be able to spend to FLY somewhere... True, the live thing is more fun, but I have access to a recording studio run by a friend of mine... If we did it track by track I could probably participate.

    > >If anyone has any tab or sheet music for any of the proposed > >tracks, we should make it accessible to people who are interested in > >the project ASAP. > > I've got guitar TAB for I&W and Awake. Not all that accurate, but better > than nothing.

Please enlighten me. What are the proposed tracks? I have not been reading the jams lately...

Yeah, cuz guitars have notes. It's too confusing for drummers. Did you hear about the bassist who locked his keys in the car? It took two hours to get the drummer out. :)

    > >Does anyone here really object to Mike Bahr posting his CD updates > >to the 'jam? I agree. Post to da Jam!!!

Well like I said, I have access to a recording studio... maybe other people can try and do the same? I mean, paying $50/hour for a recording studio is better than paying several hundred to fly somewhere and THEN paying $50/hour for a recording studio... True, we might split the cost for the recording studio once we were all sharing one studio, but still...

I've been thinking about picking up Angra's Holy Land off an internet CD place, but there's 2 versions. The domestic versoin or a japan import with a bonus track. What is the bonus track and is it worth paying $38 to hear it?

Also, has anyone heard the new KMFDM disk, XTORT? What's it like? Does it rock as much as Nihil? I've been thinking of picking that one up too.

Finally, there's the band Sieges Even. I can find one of their disks on the net for sale, but it's one of their older ones (and someone described their singer at that time as the worst lead singer of all time - Period.) I guess since then they've changed lead singers and sound much better now. Can anyone recommend a disk from them (and more importantly, where I can find it???) For those of you who don't know, supposedly Sieges Even is as technical throughout their albums as the middle of Metropolis. I just can't find any of their stuff that doesn't have their sucky singer!

Another paraphrase of a review of their older album - "It's amazing what they can do. All the instruments are so tight and busy. It's really quite astounding. And then there's the singer... When you hear it, there's all this technical stuff going on, and then there's this silly guy wailing his lungs out over it. After a while it's just funny and you can learn to ignore his voice and enjoy the music..."

Actually it might be interesting to hear what the worst singer of all time sounds like... ;)

Any info on Angra, KMFDM's new one or Sieges Even would greatly be appreciated.

Well gee don't you have lots of spending money! I seriously doubt the guy who asked the question would be able to buy all that stuff :)

    >

    > >ALSO....VH with Roth has had 11 more years to sell albums...for your point >to be valid....we would have to take a recount in about 11 years!!!! It >would be safe to assume that Van Hagar would have a good 5 to 10 million >more on the count.... >

Say what? From their first album, Roth was in the band for 7-8 years. 1977-1984. Where are you getting 11 years from? Hagar was in the band for a lot longer. 1985-1996. I don't want to get into the debate. Just pointing out facts... I think a lot of times people overlook how long "replacement" members have actually been in the band. For example, Cliff Burton was only with Metallica for 3 years, Newsted has been with them for 10! However Newsted is still considered a newbie by many. Funny how that works.

    >>rosewood (like JP's) and you will need Humbuckers (For JP's sound, >>get the pickups he uses... DiMarzio Norton or something) > >I may be wrong here, but last time I talked to Larry (DiMarzio), JP was using >a Steve's Special at the neck and a ToneZone at the bridge... >

Don't know what Larry's been smokin' lately, but the Steve's Special is at the bridge and he uses an Air Norton in the neck position. I'm positive the Steve's Special is a bridge pickup because I have it :) He used to use a ToneZone at the bridge, but switched to the Steve's.

    > > >I was talking to my brother, and he brought up an interesting point (whether >on purpose or accident I don't know, but he did just the same :-) I said >something like, "You only like music because you hear it on MTV." And >replied with something to the effect of, "No, the only Music I Hear is on >MTV, because with me, music isn't a high enough priority that I'd wanna go >out and buy CD's. That's a good point. I think it's true to a certain point. However, I know plenty of people at my school who "play" guitar or bass and seem like they're into music and such, and their fave groups are Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins and the like. I actually think these groups are on the upper end of the alterna whatever craze. Doesn't mean I like them :)

    > > So, do you guys think that a band who wrote and recorded an album >solely on the internet would get a lot of hype and/or money? If we had >proper advertising, of course...but do you think it would happen? >

That would be lots and lots up uploaded and downloaded megs of files. We just don't have the resources or the equipment to do an album based on trading files on the net. Yeah sure, if we could pull it off we'd be on the news as the "group of tribute freaks who recorded an (illegal) album on the internet and got arrested upon completion". But seriously, we need permission from the band and the record company. Why would they give us permission?? Magna Carta has a record label and known musicians and Rush is bitching at them about recording a tribute. Wake up and smell the Beefquad-X.

This is of course, all in my assumption that we would sell the disc to jammers and whoever. A la Mike Bahr's discs.

    > >Sure. I don't think anybody was looking to make a profit with this. >

Well you better be ready to make a hole in your wallet. Studio time is expensive. Recording requires time and money. No offense but I doubt you have much at 14. So if you don't want to make a profit what are you planning on doing? Recording it, losing lots of money, and then spending more to make enough copies so everybody can have one?

My suggestion. Get everybody together for a good time and some jams, and we can rent an ADAT or something. Then we can just record some copies in standard cassette form and hand them out to jammers.

The world works in strange ways. I was in a used record shop yesterday, and they had Leftovers on 10" vinyl for $12. I found other out-of-print stuff to buy, so I didn't pick it up, but if anyone wants me to get it for them for cost + shipping, contact me. This would likely be a very successful marketing angle. Unfortunately, your being on this list means you'd probably write complex, worthwhile tunes which would completely turn off the masses, shooting that angle right in the foot. My pessimist/pragmatist side (the other side says, "frosting! I want frosting!") says: keep it simple, release one record (possibly pseudononymously), get rich quick, buy your own studio equipment w/ the profits, then release the stuff you actually like. :^)

Hi all: the reason for the thanx subject is this: because of this list, I went out and got a couple of tapes (out of the used bin, $2.00 each) and checked them out. they are: Yngwie Malstem "Rising Force" and Fates Warning: "Awaken the Guardien". Now , a question: where do I find lyrics for these? Someone please point me the right way. Thanx in advance. The other question: Awhile back, someone was using a ,sig that was the lyrics to Ivory Gate of Dreams. For some reason, I thought this was the album mentioned that it was on. Am I confused? Or what? If I'm incorrect, what album is this on? I'd really like to hear that song. Now, just from listening to this masterpiece (AtG)I gather that this is a sort of concept album set in medievial times? I'll hafta see th lyrics to determine, I guess :) anyhow, the other "used bin" purchase was a new, still wrapped Roger Waters vid : The Berlin Wall show, for 4 bucks!!! Yesssss!!! Keep rockin' Pam
