Some of you have written asking about the embrodered

           YTESJAM INTERNATIONAL DREAM THEATER hats.

Yes, they are sold out at this time, but they are on
backorder. If you want one, you can still get one.

I should have a few more in about 30 days.

If you send in your order, your money will be held and
not cashed. Send you email address so I can let you know
the exact date they come in.

Don't forget about the new Dream Theater stickers. You can
           see the picture(s)(hats too) at:

I was talking to my brother, and he brought up an interesting point (whether
on purpose or accident I don't know, but he did just the same :-) I said
something like, "You only like music because you hear it on MTV." And
replied with something to the effect of, "No, the only Music I Hear is on
MTV, because with me, music isn't a high enough priority that I'd wanna go
out and buy CD's. I'm sure if they started playing music from really obscure
bands that I might like it....but since I'd reather buy other things, I'm
happy with the stuff they play on MTV."
So, just because music is the most important thing in most of our
lives doesn't mean that it is in everybody else's, so we can't blame
alternakids for anything, or call them stupid....they just have different
    hobbies.

Bazmer-Bar.....sounds like a record company....well, either that or a sex
    toy company.

                            :-)

Ernie and I almost started writing Metropolis II. But, he moved to Germany
and DT's writing it.....so, we stopped.

COMPUTER GRAPHICS DESIGNING PEOPLE!!!!! As you may or may not know, there is
a new band called Beefquad-X that has written a few songs and plans to write
a few more....if you're interested in designing a logo for the band, please
mail me....they'd appreciate it much. Byebye!! :-)

So, do you guys think that a band who wrote and recorded an album
solely on the internet would get a lot of hype and/or money? If we had
proper advertising, of course...but do you think it would happen?

    >I don't care if you're Eddie Fucking Van Halen....God didn't put a

You forgot to add "...if you want to." I think I have a pretty damned
natural click in my head. I know for sure it's not perfect, but I've never
played drums with a click, and I hardly ever speed up or slow down if I
    don't want to. Noticably, anyhow.

    >throw away your pride...a click is a necassary tool in todays
    >recording....We're not recording
    >Robert Johnson with a turntable and a suspended can mike....

Yeah, but we ARE recording Beefquad-X with Pocket Recorder and a crappy
    microphone.

    >

No, really...I don't. I think it's mainly me. I get so pissed when I suck
real bad, and it's no fun anymore. I do like it when the Snack Cart passes
by, though. :-) My parents play a LOT of golf. Also, there's a shitload of
courses here. Too many, if you ask me. :-) If I want to hit someting small
and round, it will be a drum.

    >Wait....Im not going to dignify this with a response.

    hi hi hi hi

A few things I was thinking about when I read
    through the last few jams.

I TOTALLY forgot to talk about Critical Mass
in my last post. This disc KICKS serious ass. Though
the only other Rush boot I have is Cygnus (suprise suprise :)
I do have alot of other boots and this is definately high
up on the list. Thanks to Mike for another incredible
    product!

The other thing was Todd's new stickers. I got
a bunch of them so I could put pics up on my web
page and they are REAL REAL REAL nice. The pics should
be going up on Monday if there are no problems.
Check www.dreamt.org late Monday and you should be able
    to see them for yourself.

    That's all for now.

    Later

    in reply to stephen dobay...

king's x allows *no taping of any kind*. they even confiscate
the film out of your camera if you take pictures. the galactic
cowboys used to allow open taping of anything, but now they prefer
only video taping. audio is only allowed in conjunction with video.
you can even get a soundboard patch if you are filming. ben tried
to explain his reasoning about this to me, and i still dont understand.
he thinks that the band is not well represented by just an audio tape,
    he would prefer videos circulating.

so, DAT taping needs to be stealth. they used to let me DAT off the
board, and still will if i also am filming (go figure...) :)

by the way, be sure to catch king's x on this tour, there is a very
high chance it will be your last chance...

Yes, the end of the Flexable cd has four tracks from 'Leftovers', but
there were actually eight tracks on 'Leftovers'. I have the tape for
Flexable and there was information on ordering 'Flexable Leftovers',
but that info was from the early 80's obviously. I have a friend who
has a copy of the full eight tracks. It's pretty cool.

PS: For those who were asking, there is a bass lesson with John
Myung in the November 94 issue of Guitar School magazine. takes a
look at some six string bass arpeggio scales, the intros to Scarred,
Lifting Shadows and the main riff from Erotomania.

Dave, please remember that some of us have school. I think it'd be a better
idea to wait until next summer, so we could get everybody at a recording
studio at the same time. This way, certain people (me) could save up for
plane tickets or whatever to get where we want to go, and songs could be
perfected and/or learned. It would suck to spend all the money on getting
there and booking a studio and finding out that someone didn't learn the
song completely. I want to do it NOW!!!!! too, but it's just not as feasible.

    >Ok, Ben thinks golf is boring therefore it must be. Everyone, golf is boring.

    I'm not gonna ask.

    >Is it just me, or does beach volleyball in the olympics rock???

I find it boring. I've never seen a beach volleyball competetion that didn't
    end up with Karaly/Steffes vs. Dodd/Whitmarsh. I prefer indoor 6 man v-ball
where it's not just constant serve-bump-set-spike rinse lather repeat.

Ah, you don't need that crap. Just use the "Blend" function in Pocket

    >The live approach will generate a better vibe, but will
    >necessitate playing the tracks together for a while prior to going

Speaking of money, flights to Las Vegas are alot cheaper than flights to
other places (relatively, depending on your location), and if you came here
you wouldn't have to wait for the summer, cuz' I could just do my stuff
after school. Now, you may say "Why do we have to wait for that geeky Ben?"
Well, because if you don't I'll kill you all. A lot.

    >I feel that we would be better off to use a click track and
    >record on a track by track basis. I know how some of us feel about
    >that approach, but it's the only way it can be done without having a
    >ton of people there simultaneously.
    >

Part of the reason I want to do this is to get a chance to play music with
some good musicians. So, I'm for the live recording idea.

    >If anyone has any tab or sheet music for any of the proposed
    >tracks, we should make it accessible to people who are interested in

I've got guitar TAB for I&W and Awake. Not all that accurate, but better
    than nothing.

And, before I spam the jam or send something to the wrong person, where do I
send the list of songs that I'm capable of covering for the Trib? To you,
    Dave, or to you, Rick?

    > Someone asked what my Handicapp was in golf. It is the fact that I

Sure. I don't think anybody was looking to make a profit with this.

    >plan ain't gonna roll. Not yet anyway.

Sorry....but FUCK YOU! Just because YOU don't want to do it doesn't mean
it's not going to work. Nobody said anything about selling it, and if need
be, a few jammers establish communacation with members of DT once in a
while, if we need authorization. Go be a pessimist somewhere else.
    >his is all fine and dandy, but are you REALLY going to ask
    >musicians from around the world to spend the bucks to travel WITH

    >penalties?

    Nobody's making anybody do anything.

    >He's a better percussionist
    >on guitar than almost any drummer I've ever heard is.

Whoa whoa whoa....drums and guitar are two different instruments..let's not
go saying that Al DiMeola is a great drummer, because playing guitar only
involves keeping two limbs in time together, whereas drumming requires all
four (unless you're Larz :-). I'm not saying drums are harder than guitar,
because guitar requires dexterity with your fingers. But, they ARE too
different to compare in that manner. Unless, you meant that he plays better
percussion on guitar than other drummers play percussion on guitar, in which
case I would reply: Not too many drummers play guitar.

    >Does anyone here really object to Mike Bahr posting his CD updates

    >
    >I didn't know that, but I can believe it, because there are parts on
    >that album where I think the guitar is just a little bit off.

Definitely not. Another example is the first MP double kick solo in A
Fortune in Lies. He just takes off without the band, and slows it down when
they come in. It sounded a little obvious to me...maybe I'm just wierd.

    >ne record separately from them
    >and then get someone to mix it all together. That way, you don't have to
    >scrape together for plane fare to go all over God's green earth to practice
    >and record.

The sound quality would suffer soooo baaaaad. Recording drums with one
microphone on the table next to you sounds really REALLY bad. If ONE person
would volunteer to bring a drumkit, and a few others bass and guitar amps,
and keyboards, then nobody else would have to bring anyting but they're bass
or guitar and drumsticks. Amps, keyboards and drums seem like the least
personal instruments, meaning that playing somebody else's wouldn't effect
    your playing.

    >Well, isn't it obvious? When will most jammers be gathered in one

Ummm, looks like I totally echoed someone's post about jason
becker = person of the week before me, maybe I should read the waiting
    jams before posting?

anyway, cool stuff, this art fair they hold in Ann Arbor every year....takes
over 24 city/campus blocks, and every record store in the area puts a bunch of
CDs outside at slashed prices....picked up Crimson Glory's Strange and
Beautiful (awesome, but i think i like transcendance better), a helloween
import called Keepers Live (haven't listened yet), Eric Johnson's Tones
(haven't listened yet, didn't realize he put out anything before Ah Via
Musicom) and Wicked Maraya's Cycles album, just because Jaime the Dragon
mentioned that name on here a few times.....listening to it right now,
and it's pretty cool, thanks for the tip, Jaime (is she on the Jam over
    the summer?)
Here's the kicker: all that, plus a country sampler, a jazz sampler, and
a Dave Matthews Band poster, and a I MOther Earth single (4 diff songs, cool
    stuff) for $12!!
(all the 5 CDs were new, too, maybe I should be commenting on how sad it
is to see all that great stuff being sold for $2 and $3?)

I don't know why I told you all that, I guess I just felt lke

they did these "Band Aid Classifieds". They are basically want ads for
    bands. So this one says:

A band in Hamilton looking for a drummer in vain of Dream Theater
    and Queensryche.

The two hosts pause and then laugh and say "hehe, good luck!!
Drummers like those do not come around very often!!"

Uh, cool!! But, why the hell do they play Queensryche only once a
week (usu. on request) and Dream Theater every two years then? Stupid,
    stupid, stupid!!

Question of the day: Could Bill and Ted's band be considered progressive?

Oh, sorry, I meant Iced Earth... :)

Clearing up a few things... The new Iced Earth CD is based (loosely,
apparently) on the Spawn comic book by Todd McFarlane (one of
comicdom's better-known and respected talents). The Spawn character
is based on a real-world chap (and former baseball player) named Al
Simmons, who tours at conventions and such in support of the comic --
they bring along a car called the Spawnmobile. He might tour in
support of Iced Earth, which would be cool. (Alas, Todd M. is not
    'into' metal or prog.)

I'm hoping to get a copy of the new Iced Earth shortly in the mail, as
they have indicated a desire to play our convention next summer and if
so, possibly Al might stop by on tour as well. --Which would be
cool, since one of Al's assistants happens to be a big DT fan who I
befriended here two years ago. :)

    Dragon*Con '97 :)

(One concern we have is time constraints: not only does GWAR want to
return and play again, but Anthrax and the Misfits want to play, too.
    :))
