I'd gladly post the updates directly to the Jam, but they exceed
the post length limit set by Skadz, which was put in to prevent from
people quoting the whole Jam in a reply (a perfectly respectable reason).

hello from suprisingly mild MD:
1. KX/GC Tour. If anyone is going to be at
either show, especially the Bayou, I will be
the guy in the Fates Warning shirt up front!
(One night, anyway.) Hope to see some of
you DC/MD clowns there.
2. Someone mentioned missing the Mike
Bahr cd updates. I agree for two reasons:
a. I am too lazy to check a web page.
b. so are other potential buyers. I am
actually interested in the Rush disc, but
have no info. Again I am lazy when it
comes to the web.
3. Everyone pray to the satellite gods
so I won't have to cut tree limbs in order
to hook it up at my new house.

Hello,
Skadz was talkin' about MTV possibly playing more metal videos in the future. Well, I was wonding if their new channel will play more. For those of yo that don't know, MTV is launching a new channel that will only play videos, no shows. Looks like they decided to listen to the criticism. (has this been brought up on the jam? if it has sorry) I was thinking (hoping) that they'll bring back Headbanger's Ball, or at least a similar show. Think about it, they're going to have more time to show videos, so they'll have to pull out some old one's, maybe even some DT :) Anyway, who knows, guess we'll have to wait and see.

Hey Joey check your figures before you open your mouth. Van Halen with David Lee Roth sold 27 million copies of their albums. Van Halen with Sammy Hagar sold nearly 16 million albums. Those are the correct figures. So don't say VH never had a hit record with Dave. I am netither bashing or defending either singer, I am just pointing out the correct facts. Hey all ....
Jim Beavens asked if anyone would mind Mike posting his CD Updates to the Jam again. The problem is he can't :) Because of problems with spams the message size limit is set under the size of Mike's updates these days. I will try to get something together with Mike so that they can be archived to the jam archive as soon as he releases them so he can include where to get it from ytsejam archive in his messages to the jam

Ibanez... as the name implies "CUSTOM"...
What is the average new street price on that?
There were 150 of the JP models issued... good luck finding one... your best bet would be to do what he does and get a custom RG560 from Ibanez...
And yes, the Picaso finish is available.

Point taken... I guess I shouldn't assume everyone has been lucky enough to play all the instruments they might want to program. The other night, I programmed in a drum SOLO on the DR5... and it sounds like what happens when Brian (Sax Myle) or Ben (my old drummer) goes nuts.. but I also played drums for...uh...12 years. :)
One trick to using a drum machine, I have found, is to avoid the single pattern trap like the plague... part of it is varying the drum patterns like a real drummer would -- displacing beats here and there... and not overdoing that nifty "fix the beat" feature. They're great, though, when you can't possibly make time to keep up the chops on all your instruments....

Thanks to everyone who responded concerning savatage's albums. How do EOT and HOR compare with say Streets, Gutter Ballet and HotMK? Or even earlier stuff?
Question: Why is it that for songs that involve lots of analog keys such as SDV, Chance, and Alone You Breathe, keyboardists can't find a real piano? I didn't really notice it, but my brother is a concert pianist and he heard some of this stuff and pointed it out. Now it really bugs me. The QR guy uses a real one of PL. Does Geoff Tate play the keys on Someone Else?

I got a couple of new releases this week that may appeal to the DT fan...
The first is Altura - Mercy. This is a decent CD. It sounds kinda like Enchant, only not as cool. I had heard it was to be heavy in the style of DT but it really wasn't. Still pretty cool. Sometimes I think these Magna Carta bands go overboard on the keyboards (Cairo). This one's got it's fair share.
I also got Iced Earth - The Dark Saga. It is based on the Spawn comic book and has a Spawn cover. This is a good CD. Heavy and mean singer. I like this one. It is the first Iced Earth I've gotten.
I got the Clockwork tape in as well. Very Shadow Galleryish. Pretty cool stuff. I will look for their next tape.
Some other quick reviews:
Elegy - Lost.......Good CD. It sounds like a heavier TNT. The singer is quite similiar to Tony Harnell.
Angra - Holy Land....Another good CD. Real good musicians. The tribal stuff is quite odd. I think a lot of DT would like this.
The DT tribute album sounds like a real good idea. I sing but unfortunately not very well yet so I won't even bother. I agree with the guy that said you should just send the tapes in to have them mixed but I must admit I don't know crap about how all that works.
That's all for now

In a message dated 96-07-25 20:16:02 EDT, you write:
<< Does anyone here really object to Mike Bahr posting his CD updates to the 'jam? Whether I'm busy doing work, or just lazy at the time, it's kind of a pain to find a web page that has it, or to email Mike and wait for him to wade through his massive inbox. If I recall, he stopped posting them back when we had serious bandwidth problems back at the end of last year, and Ken started moderating the list. Now that it's summer and the traffic's died down (and we're not moderated anymore), what's holding you back, Mike? Let 'er fly! This is a minor nitpick, I know, but Mike's updates have a hell of a lot more DT content than Van Halen or the use of clicks. >>
Count my vote as YES!!! Skadz, can he, can he, please, please!! :^) I used to look forward to seeing these and looking to see if my name had been added to the reserved list. It was kinda like Christmas when I was a kid waiting for Santa to come. :^)

Hiya All,
I haven't posted for a while, mid-year exams at Uni down under. I was amazed to see a whole pile of Jams in my mail box with more than half of them devoted to VH, and less than a quarter of each to DT.
I finally order the Superior CD and am hangin' out to hear it, given the rap that everyones given it.
One quick comment:
>Rock on Senor Mojo. I'm so sick of people acting like because I'm a >guitarist, there's no way I could have a sense of time equaling that >of a bassist or drummer. I know butt loads of drummers who can't >keep time for crap, and even more bassists with this affliction. He's a better percussionist >on guitar than almost any drummer I've ever heard is.
I have taught Bass to a few people. over the past 5 years, and have found that few of them could hold a steady 4/4 beat for more than 30 seconds. Whereas my brother, who has taught Guitar for a few years, claims that most of his students have excellent timing. Go figure?
