I do a TON a tempo changes with my drum machine.. it's a Boss DR5. You
simply program your song (or whatever) into sections -- when you string
together the patterns and create a new "song" where the tempo changes are and
then chain them together. With my machine, you hit a button and it says CHAIN
TO and you scrool to the song number. Really simple. I think that, right
now, I've got... 7 of them chained together for the first two parts of a song
that's kinda ACoS but obviously not that brilliant.

I've been lurking on this one because I liked Van Halen better than Van Hagar,
I feel VH wrote sound-alike songs with Sammy, etc. The band decided to keep
with the bombastic compositions of "Jump" forever. Their first two albums with
Sammy were great (5150, OU812)....But better then Women and Children First?
    Hell no!

    >feel your love tonight
    >ice cream man
    >jamie's crying
    >beautiful girls
    >dance the night away
    >outta love again
    >women in love

    >dancing in the street
    >happy trails
    >oh, pretty woman
    >where have all the good times gone
    >hot for teacher
    >I'll wait
    >take your whiskey home

    >those are just a few of the poppy/love/non rocker songs Van Halen did
    >with DLR.

This came from Pat Daugherty. Take another look at the list. See the
diversity in styles there? Hard blues like "Take your whiskey..." and "Ice
Cream Man" to high school metal in "Hot For Teacher" to pop/dance"Dance The
Night Away" to the smug "Happy Trails". You think Sammy could deliver "DOA"?

They are completely different styles, but Dave was a better rocker. ANd for
people to say they've "matured" with Sammy, I disagree. I don't see having
every song sound like "Wings" is maturing AND Sammy is known in the biz as
being as sexually sophmoric as they come (see the oh so mature title of their
    third Sammy album).
I liked Van Hagar....I LOVED Van Halen. LATER-

Agreed. Most of the songs on WDADU would be relatively easy to
do. Some of the stuff on I&W would also be possible. I'm not so sure
about Awake though. Does anyone here own a seven string? CIAW, Lie and
Mirror all sound pretty hollow without the low B.

Hmmmm. This should be brought to their attention soon then,
particularly if we are semi-seriously considering releasing this

A big head! Ha! You must not be reading these threads
carefully. See that smiley? That means I'm joking. Internet 101 -
Basic symbol utilization. Besides, I'm about as far from being an
egomaniac as you can get, and to be honest, I think you have a FUCK of
a lot of nerve for suggesting that I am here.
In addition, being talented and having a record released are
only peripherally related. I can think of TONS of bands in the Toronto
area who are good enough to be signed by huge labels, but they won't
be because of the fact that the industry's taste is in it's ass.
Just because you haven't been signed, doesn't mean you suck.
If that were the case, my band never would have recorded a
professional quality demo. We had been shopping it around and we
always got the same answer. "It rocks, and you sound great, but that
music isn't a big seller right now." So, for the moment, things are on
hold and we are sticking with our day jobs.

    Cheers,

    Rick

Yeah but I still maintain that a bassist putting down a track on a
prerecorded drum (recorded w/o click) will have more problems than a
guitarist doing it over bass and drums prerecorded. I've had to CHANGE my
bass lines in studio just because my dumbfuck (ex-)drummer couldn't count
in his fuckin'ead!!! If all's done with a click, then you lay down your
bass lines over drum AND click, and things are easier. But as I said, if
it's not possible, it's not possible!

I'm sorry for bargining in on the jam linke this <sorry, I cna't correct typos since if I do, the text format will get messier>, but does anybdy here know how I can reach Ibanez USA electronically?
    <online, I mean>...
In december, I got one of their USRG guitars <turns out to be the biggest mistake i my lif next to 'retiring' from piano>, and since them, I had to send it back for exchanges 4 times...
Since I had to move back to Japan in June, I was a big pressed on time, and on the 3rd time, they sent me a total new replacement for threefree... Now this guitar didn(t have neck warps and all that, or a dent in a fret, but it
had a neck pocked which was angled against the body so that the neck would tildt over to the treble side more...
The pocket was also too deep, which gives the ibanez usrg to havehe ability to have string action higher than any of the electrics I onwn <inc. a battered up $150 Yamaha>, AND terrible fret buzz.
A guy from ibanez came over and he said it had to be replaced, and they sent it back to Pennsylvania.. well I get it back in the end of June, about 2 days before I move, and I find afout after the clamour of the moving that
They did NOT replace the guitar, but they just bolted on the neck a bit differently <looser> so it would be okay for the tilt part... needless to say, the neck was VERY unstable in the pocket, and right now, it is out of the question to play anything
resembling technical playing on this instrument... It has high action AND an immense buzz on the 9th fret, and I have a pretty big backbow on the neck to keep its action from going into the centimeters...
I'm pretty uspset in my $1--- investment, and I'd like to know any way I could get this guitar fixed up again by Ibanez... <for free, of course>... A local uitar guyrepair person told me that the repairs would have to consist of
filling the neck pocket AND the tremolo catvity <that part also is screwed>, and then routing it ut all over... coming at around $800+...
I thus want to know any way I can conctact Ibanez USA preferably by email about this situation. Also, if anybody else on the list has the USRG30, has anybody had problms as bad as me?
ie. 7 months after purchase, 4 times shipped back, and still unplayable? <sure I can let my brother use it for slide, but..>..
    thanks for any info.

So, I'm reading Suck (www.suck.com) today, and I decide to check out one
of their sponsors, Music Blvd. (www.musicblvd.com). Naturally, there's
only one way to determine the worth of a site like this, so I search for
Dream Theater. They have WDADU (on CD for $8.99, I might add, but it's
the reissue), I&W, Awake, and ACos. The cool thing is they have ratings
for everything. WDADU has no rating, and Awake and ACoS are rated as
"OK," but I&W is rated Best of Genre!!! Cool, huh?

    Hey all ....

a few quick comments then more ....

clicks -> take it to private email
our band should have used clicks -> take it to private email
VH / DLR / Hagar -> Take it to private email (or the VH list)
Are you seeing the light yet?

OK, I haven't posted in a while, so I will get
this all out in one nice long post (maybe)

Someone asked about Arsin, I have the CD, it is
very cool. Definately more power metal than prog.
Listening to it now. Definately influenced by alot
of bands that people on this list tend to listen to.
    I like it :)

All the IRC stuff that was posted to the list.
This is something that should NOT be on this list. I
am the one who runs the server and I am the one who controls
things like Klines. If you have a problem, email ME directly.
I don't want IRC problems on here. The real story was that
Sledge was Klined by me after doing something wrong.
Because he and Tempus share the same provider, they both
ended up K-lined. End of story.

Saw Everclear for the fourth time last Friday.
These guys are definately my favorite "alternative" band.
Tracy Bonham and Spacehog opened, both were also real
good. You know you've seen a good show when your shirt
is still damp 12 hours after the show :)

I am still way behind on email, so if I owe you
mail about anything (trades :):) I will hopefully get to
    it today or tommorrow.

One final thing. Any of the Boston area jammers
going to or want to go to either the
Anthrax/Misfits/Life of Agony show on Aug 1 or the Slayer
show on Aug 7? I will probably be going, but at the
moment think I will be alone for at least the first
show. Also, any jammers gonna be attending the Tori show
at Harborlights on Sept 9? (Email me back privately :)

            That's all for now

Sting put on a great show last night. His versions of
"Synchronicity II" and "Englishman in New York" were phenomenal, and he
danced around the stage all night. The only noticable mistake came during
"Synchronicity II" when he caught a glimpse of the antics of the saxophone
and trombone players behind him and broke off laughing. His bass sounded
    awesome, too.
Opening for Sting was Lyle Lovett and his Large Band. They were
pretty good, the best part being a wild solo on the last tune by the
cellist. That was the first awesome cello solo I've seen. Later, Sting and
Lyle Lovett did a duet that came off pretty well, but I don't remember it at
all. Oh well. Back to sleep.

access to a four track recorder, but what I'd prefer to do is get a tape of
the other parts, and play along, listening to that , and then mail the four
track tape with my bass line along with the reference tape to whoever is
doing the mixing. Is this possible, anyone? Please email me.

This is all fine and dandy, but are you REALLY going to ask
musicians from around the world to spend the bucks to travel WITH
GEAR to record a cd that may well end up earning HUGE legal
penalties? What are we going to do... record this cd and give it

permission... the latter usually being unreasonable. I would love to
take part in this. I can learn a few DT songs in a matter of days,
so I'm not worried about getting my "10 songs" but if I have to spend
hundreds on a plane ticket for myself and my gear, I'll likely not be
capable of paying for studio time. And I have no intention of
breaking copyright agreements with one of my favorite bands. Doing
something this serious simply has to be discussed with the proper
    authorities.

Sorry if reality isn't CONSTRUCTIVE enough for you, but this game
plan ain't gonna roll. Not yet anyway.

How about you relax a bit? This is a discussion. It's obviously a
    topic of interest.

WTF is that? I know lots of guitarists that record with their
drummers. And I know lots of bassists who can't keep time, but think
they can because thir instrument is the "Backbone" of their music.
    Whatever.

Tori's music doesn't require the strict rhythmic timing that a band
like Dream Theater or Fates Warning does. and FYI, clicks have been
around for longer than most of us have.

But I do agree that there are cases where it's not necessary to use a
click. I have never used one live, and only once have wished I had
one while in a live situation. I think the more musicians you have,
the more important a click becomes. It's very much like a conductor
of an orchestra. Tori plays by herself. She doesn't have anyone the
sync up to. A 5 or 6 piece band has more difficulty playing together
    than a solo act.
