Actually, no. I store all my Jam's on my computer. But, I also have a 1.2GB
hard drive and no games on it, so maybe it doesn't count. :-)

On a completely unrelated note (was that F# or F Sharp?), we got really goofy tonight on IRC, and started wondering what would happen if the band members had gotten into a different line of work.
What if DT was one of those haircut bands? Would we be subscribed to the YtseGlam? What if we found out that they've been lip-synching this whole time? YtseScam? What if they had gone into waterway engineering? YtseDam? What if George Michael joined the group? YtseWham? What's that new Mike Bahr cd called? YtseSFAM? What if they played in drag? YtseMa'am? What if they were seafood chefs? YtseClam? What if everyone moshed at the Malibu? YtseSlam? Who's that rockin' cabbie? YtsePam?
We went on for far too long with these. If you thought of it, so did we. :) I really should sleep more.

Had to put my $0.02 in.... I don't know if you've ever worked in a studio before, but unless you're recording jazz or vocal ensembles, each person records separately, hence, the "feel among the band" is lost...Ever try to take visual cues from a tape machine?? :) Besides, on LIT, they show Kevin playing along with a click track...Guess that means DT doesn't have the vibe, eh? Pity....

Another Jammer mentioned EVH haven't done anything cool or interesting lately. Well, my question for that person(s) is, Have you seen Twister (the movie)? or heard the Twister sound track?
Everyone knows about "Humans Being", but I don't think too many even thought about the last track on the sound track or the last track in the movie. I believe the title is "Respect the wind". First I thought it was done by Joe Satriani, Vai or even Steve Morse, but nope, it was done by the king himself, EVH and along with Alex. It's a Solo piece. Instrumental with Synth. and of course, guitar.

because the click is constant and doesn't change tempo whereas humans can and do. even the person deemed to have the "best timing" will stray. and it's for this reason that some of the best drummers can be found in industrial-type bands. playing to a digital recording over and over, nite after nite takes real musicianship.

there's a difference between playing w/ a feel and playing w/ a click. if you have the feel and don't play w/ a click, then you should play at the same tempo and everything will sound correct. if you don't have the feel and try playing to a click, it'll sound like crap.
as for the vibe-having or the non-vibe-having, it depends on what the performers are going for. i've seen several "trippy" bands that just kinda weave in and out of a tempo but they all do it at the same time; sounds fine. i've also seen bands who wish to perform live /exactly/ as it sounds on the cd. and to do this they use a click. i know they're good enough to play w/o the click, they just wish to be precise.

Ever wonder how much longer the alternative craze will last? When will people finally get bored of three chord progressions? Well, having done significant research on the topic, I have some information for you. For my work, I have used a total of seven different chords (Major, Minor, 7th, 7sus, Minor 7th, and 9th). Whether the average alternative guitarist actually knows and uses these chords is anyone's guess. (Whether an alternative guitarist actually knows what a chord is is anyone's guess) These seven chords, times twelve different pitches in the chromatic scale results in eighty-four possible chords. Assuming that each alternative chord progression consists of an average of three chords, it can be determined that 95,284 different three-chord progressions are possible. If every alternative song requires three different three-chord progressions (yes, this is asking a lot), a total of approximately 144,176,678,822,000 alternative songs exist. This allows for 14,417,667,882,200 ten song albums. If each band releases an average of two albums before a member of the band kills himself or dies of an drug overdose, a total of 7,208,833,941,100 alternative bands can exist before they run out of song material. Yes, guys, this thing's not gonna blow over soon. There is, however, something to be done about it. We must find a way to use up their material as quickly as possible. This means compromising our high standards, but it is for a good cause. We need to begin going through chord progressions as fast as possible, and run the alternative song reservoir dry. What will this require? Three fifty dollar pieces of equipment (guitar, distortion pedal, amp), a bad haircut, a shotgun, and a warehouse chock full o' heroin. Get moving, men. I totally, absolutely, completely, 110% disagree with this :) There is nothing wrong with click tracks. Every one of my teachers has had me play with a metronome and it has definitely made me a better player. Playing around with friends is fine without one, but if I was going to be putting something on tape, I'd want it perfect.

I just got my DreamDisc catalog and have looked through it about 7 times already. It's got so much stuff!!! They give brief descriptions and comparisons, but I ONLY trust you guys for opinions, so I'd appreciate any opinions on some of the following bands before I order them:
Parish (ex-Crimson Glory), Psycho Drama, Kamelot, Stratovarious, Threshold, Dreamlore, Bourne Wisdom, Asgard.
They're all listed as either "Dream Theater influenced" or "Progressive melodic metal"

What are the minimum system requirements to use pIRCh. I know a lot of folks on #YTSEJAM use it and I'm curious about it. Is it functionally better than mIRC? Also, wasn't someone here developing an IRC app? It was called something like mIRC and Words?

Favoritism was something I was worried about in all of this too. This is a fairly democratic forum, but strange things can happen when people get in front of a recording desk. I just would hate to see anyone hurt because of exclusion. Yeah, I'm a bleeding heart liberal! YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT!!?? :)

A good point and one that I hadn't really considered. I do think if this goes ahead that Bernd and Mike should do the production though. It would save a fortune. Mike probably knows the band better than the rest of us and Bernd has already been through this. They would make a great team. Hmmmmm... Basmer-Bahr Productions..... hmmmmmmm. Has a nice sound to it! :) The tapes would enable us to make it a double length project. Also, we should all keep something in mind. We all have spoken about whether or not we have the chops to pull off the instrumental sections of the work. Why not do our own takes on the stuff? Personalize it. After all, TSM was redone in a heavy form at the Christmas shows and that was a HUGE deviation from the original. Look at it this way. I doubt that there are enough of us here with the same musical training as DT to do perfect covers of the stuff. So why not have some fun with it. Mike's AD disc shows them experimenting with their material. We can too! Here's another thought. Does anyone have any original material that they would like to record as part of the project in a DT vein? Perhaps we could GIVE a song to the band! How'd you like to have fans all over the globe listening to Song X by Ytsejam as interpreted by DT!?
